The album will be accompanied by a Showtime documentary premiering on November 21, titled, Lost Songs: The Basement Tapes Continued, directed by Sam Jones (the Wilco documentary, I Am Trying To Break Your Heart).  The film will present an exclusive and intimate look at the making of Lost On The River: The New Basement Tapes set against the influential and historical cultural backdrop of Bob Dylan's original Basement Tapes.     Bob Dylan's original Basement Tapes have fascinated and enticed successive generations of musicians, fans and cultural critics for nearly five decades. More than a hundred songs were recorded by Dylan and musicians who later became The Band in the basement of a small house in upstate New York in the summer and fall of 1967, including many Bob Dylan future classics such as, "I Shall Be Released," "The Mighty Quinn," "This Wheel's On Fire," "You Ain't Going Nowhere" and "Tears Of Rage."
Lost On The River: The New Basement Tapes is a music event 47 years in the making. The album celebrates the discovery of never-seen Bob Dylan lyrics from that legendary 1967 period and marks a creative highpoint for the album's participants - Burnett, Costello, Giddens, Goldsmith, James and Mumford - who have brought them to life nearly 50 years later. As Burnett explains, "What transpired during those two weeks was amazing for all of us. There was a deep well of generosity and support in the studio at all times, which reflected the tremendous trust and generosity shown by Bob in sharing these lyrics with us in the first place."

Har Mar Superstar to tour North America with The Pizza Underground

HAR MAR SUPERSTAR TO TOUR NORTH AMERICA WITH THE PIZZA UNDERGROUND THIS FALL “This is catchy, punk-influenced soul music—and easily Har Mar’s finest work yet.”—NPR Music“It’s clear that this is easily Har Mar’s best album”—The Quietus“…MAN did it deliver! I’d call the album a guilty pleasure but I don’t feel guilty at all. It’s just packed full of hooks.”—KCRWFresh from a whirlwind European summer tour, Har Mar Superstar is set to co-headline a string of North American dates this fall with Macaulay Culkin’s The Pizza Underground, a pizza-themed tribute to The Velvet Underground.  Bye Bye 17 , the fifth studio album from Har Mar Superstar—aka Sean Tillmann—is out now on Julian Casablancas’ Cult Records.Of the tour, which includes stops in New York, Los Angeles and Nashville, Tillmann says, “I’m very excited to hit the road and share the stage with my pals The Pizza Underground. We’re aiming to take you through a magical variety show style experience on your evening out. It’ll be a celebration of all things good: soul music, dancing, life, pizza and Lou Reed.”Culkin enthuses, “I don’t normally go to concerts, but if I did I’d go to this one.”Released to widespread critical acclaim, Bullett calls Bye Bye 17 “impossibly groovy and infectious.” Of the album’s first single, “Lady, You Shot Me,” Death + Taxes praises, “Har Mar Superstar returns with the song of his career,” while MTV Buzzworthy calls it a “Buzzworthy Obsession.” Tillmann co-produced the tracks with Jim Eno (Spoon) at his Austin studio with a full live band, before finishing work and remixing the album at Cult Records’ New York studios.Tillmann named his flamboyant alter-ego after the Har Mar mall in suburban St. Paul, MN where he spent his youth watching movies and writing songs about passers-by in the food court. Tillmann explains, “Har Mar Superstar used to be a different person. It used to be my excuse to get away with the more fantastic things in life…it was easier to get onstage as this other guy and be outrageous and have it be glorified. I guess the confidence I got from being Har Mar Superstar translated into my real life so now we’re one and the same.”HAR MAR SUPERSTAR TOUR DATES*with The Pizza UndergroundOctober 17                                                 Brooklyn, NY                                       Knitting Factory*October 28                                                  Montreal, QC                                              Le Belmont*October 29                                                  Toronto, ON                                     Horseshoe Tavern*October 30                                                Indianapolis, IN                                                        HiFi*October 31                                                 Maquoketa, IA                Codfish Hollow Barnstormers*November 2                                               Milwaukee, WI                                            Hotel Foster*November 3                                               St. Louis, MO                                             The Firebird*November 5                                                Nashville, TN                                                High Watt*November 6                                                  Atlanta, GA                                                     The Earl*November 7                                             New Orleans, LA                                     House of Blues*November 9                                                  Austin, TX                                         Fun Fun Fun FestNovember 10                                                Dallas, TX                                                           Trees*November 12                                               Phoenix, AZ                                          Rhythm Room*November 13                                             San Diego, CA                                                    Casbah*November 14                                             Santa Ana, CA                                 Constellation Room*November 15                                           Los Angeles, CA                                       El Rey Theater*November 16                                             Las Vegas, NV                                                      LVCS*November 18                                           Pioneertown, CA                                Pappy & Harriett’s*November 19                                          San Francisco, CA                                Bottom of the Hill*November 20                                          San Francisco, CA                                Bottom of the Hill*November 21                                              Portland, OR                                                      Dantes*November 22                                               Seattle, WA                                                 Chop Suey*November 23                                             Vancouver, BC                                    Rickshaw Theater*November 24                                               Calgary, AB                                              The PalominoNovember 25                                               Billings, MT                                               Pub Station*November 26                                               Denver, CO                                        Marquis Theater*November 27                                           Kansas City, MO                                            Record Bar*November 28                                                Omaha, NE                                           Waiting Room*November 30                                              Madison, WI                                   High Noon SaloonDecember 1                                               Columbus, OH                             Skully’s Music Diner*December 5                                             Washington, D.C.                                              Black Cat*December 6                                                 Boston, MA                                 Brighton Music Hall*http://www.harmarsuperstar.comhttps://www.facebook.com/harmarsuperstarhttp://www.twitter.com/harmarsuperstar

My Brightest Diamond's "Lover Killer" single premieres

MY BRIGHTEST DIAMOND’S “LOVER KILLER” SINGLE PREMIERES
THIS IS MY HAND  OUT SEPTEMBER 16 ON ASTHMATIC KITTY RECORDS
WORLDWIDE TOUR CONFIRMED
“Along with her often-gorgeous singing, Ms. Worden presents an ambitious series of arrangements…the songs glow with rumination…”—The New York Times
My Brightest Diamond’s new single, “Lover Killer,” can now be heard/embedded here. Of the song,  Refinery29  praises, “jazzy, glowing…there’s something so unique about Shara Worden’s music—her operatic voice has us hypnotized. We’re hoping her upcoming release will also sweep us off our feet.”
“Lover Killer” is from My Brightest Diamond’s new album,  This is My Hand , which will be released September 16 onAsthmatic Kitty Records (pre-order). In celebration of the release, Worden will embark on a worldwide tour this fall, including dates at New York’s Bowery Ballroom and L.A.’s The Roxy as well as an appearance at the 2014 Austin City Limits Music Festival. See below for details.
In addition to “Lover Killer,” the new album features the track “Pressure,” which premiered earlier this summer at  NPR Music  and can now be heard/shared here. Of the song, NPR Music praises, “…a stirring song powered by an incredible drumline…one of the most powerful and dramatic voices of the past decade,” while  Stereogum  proclaims, “…‘Pressure’ is something to be reckoned with. Filled with an army of percussive sounds from big drums to twinkling bells along with shrieking brass and crushing synths, it’s a huge production, but it all sounds small compared to Worden’s operatic voice.”
This Is My Hand was recorded in Berlin, New York, L.A. and Worden’s re-adopted hometown of Detroit with producer Zac Rae. Of her inspiration behind the album, Worden comments, “The genesis of the new album was looking at the changes that have happened in music over my career, and trying to reevaluate what it meant to me in the first place: ‘what is the value of music’ is essentially the question. In the States, the marching band is something that is done in school, so it still represents something inclusive, something that anyone can learn. I loved the communal quality and the way that drums and horns travel in large three-dimensional spaces.”
Since debuting as My Brightest Diamond in 2006, Worden has released three full-length albums, including her most recent, 2011’s All Things Will Unwind. Of the album, The New York Times praises, “…she has a keen sense of the dramatic, and a sure understanding of dynamics,” while allmusic asserts, “All Things Will Unwind finds this musical auteur at the top of her game, maturing, pushing her already broad boundaries, and brimming with imagination.”
In addition to her work as My Brightest Diamond, Worden has collaborated and performed with various musicians, artists and filmmakers, including Matthew Barney, Sufjan Stevens, Bryce and Aaron Dressner (The National), The Decemberists, Bon Iver, David Byrne, The Blind Boys of Alabama, Laurie Anderson, Matthew Ritchie, Murat Eyuboglu, Brooklyn Rider and yMusic, among others.

Death shares new music video

DEATH SHARES MUSIC VIDEO FOR "WE'RE GONNA MAKE IT" VIA STEREOGUM

DEATH III AVAILABLE NOW VIA DRAG CITY
Photo credit: Tammy Hackney Death is proud to share a music video for "We're Gonna Make It". One of the most uplifting songs in their repertoire, it is also the last song Death song written by David Hackney. As Stereogum writes, "The video is a montage of Hackney family photos and cuts from A Band Called Death, set to David's gently sentimental remembrance. It was compiled by one of Bobby's sons, who discovered the band's old recordings in his family attic, and founded Rough Francis, a DEATH cover band, with his two brothers in 2008. Thus, the Hackney story comes full circle." The song appears on the band's critically acclaimed Death III, their third album of archival material which is currently available via Drag City.
WATCH: "We're Gonna Make It" -  http://youtu.be/ilGutFF0Hqc
About Death:Five years after the second life of Death was started with the release of their revelatory 1976 album, For the Whole World to SeeDeath III slams the door on the vault with a powerful set of songs that bring equal amounts of rock and ethereal soul-searching, in high-fidelity, rich bottomed, studio-grade sound. Alongside songs from 1975, 1976 and 1980,Death III contains two songs from 1992, as the Hackney brothers reconvened nearly a decade after they'd stopped playing together. Death III serves as a companion piece of sorts to the A Band Called Death documentary, tracking the band's movement from spiritual young rockers to older and wiser, bruised-but-undefeated brothers, in pure musical terms.  David Hackney's visual representation of Death was a triangle, where "spiritual," "mental" and "physical" formed the three angles. With this in mind, For the Whole World to See is clearly the physical corner, with its undeniable proto-punk power; Spiritual-Mental-Physicalexplores the mental axis, with Death working through some of their influences, including The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, The Who and even ELO, in their practice space. Death III is the spiritual end of the portrait, bookended by the dreamlike rock visions of David Hackney that created and propelled the band called Death.  Death III starts with David inside a deep 1975 guitar improvisation, rising up through atmospheres and prehistoric guitar murk to coalesce in jagged monster-riff-dom. The whole exercise recalls Funkadelic's great Eddie Hazel while reflecting the pure essence of David Hackney's guitar style. This jump-cuts perfectly five years into the future, with the funky staccato of "North Street," which finds the band's punkish approach at it's most aggressive. From there, the album moves back and forth from 1975 and '76 (including two songs recorded at Groovesville in Detroit with the other For the Whole World to See songs) to 1980, showing the band streamlining their frenetic core and maximizing the power. The lyrical focus of the songs "Open Road," "We Are Only People," and "Free" is more in the spirit/soul side of Death as heard on "Let the World Turn" and "Where Do We Go From Here???" - sensitive, searching, reflective. "We Are Only People" is an epic journey that begins with another Funkadelic-styled spoken-word moment, progressing through a spacious solo-guitar-with-harmonies section and into the inevitable rock conclusion. Dark hues are generated by the relentless and speedy "Restlessness" while remaining at a philosophical remove, and "Free" is a heavy duo piece with Bobby and David exploring the meaning of the word. But the album's climax is provided by a trio (once again, the triangle) of David songs, two of which hail from 1992. All three pieces together form a release of the soul of Death from it's dark origins, building optimism upon the harsh realities they'd experienced in their lives, more relaxed without losing the spark and bite of those former times. The unaccompanied guitar instrumental "First Snowfall in Detroit," is David Hackney at his most soulful, which gives way to "We're Gonna Make It," first featured as an emotional climax to the documentary and no less powerful here. With these songs, Death III pays final tribute to David Hackney's thoroughly original voice and vision, now stilled, but captured forever as a part of the remarkable story of Death.

August 14, 2014 – The Afghan Whigs have turned in a slow burn cover of The Police’s Ghost in the Machine classic, “Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic.” Entertainment Weekly says of the song, “Dulli and company have brought that spooky undercurrent to the front, and infused the Police’s composition the dark and dangerous sensuality they specialize in (see EW.com August 14th).  The track was recorded during the sessions for the band’s current Sub Pop album Do to the Beast.
The Afghan Whigs will kick off their North American trek with a performance on KCRW’s "Morning Becomes Eclectic" the morning of Monday August 25th.  The tour begins the following evening on August 26th with a two-night stand at Doug Fir in Portland, OR. Joining the band on drums for the North American tour will be Patrick Keeler (Raconteurs, Greenhornes).  Due to an unforeseen scheduling conflict, the August 31st show in Boise, ID has now been cancelled.  For the most up to date information and tickets please visit theafghanwhigs.com
The band’s new album has been one of the most critically acclaimed releases of 2014 with the Los Angeles Times stating: "Do to the Beast locks into the rhythm and soul undercarriage that always set the Whigs apart from its alt-rock-era brethren, and then turns off the lights, turns up the guitars and revels in the unsavory."
Do to the Beast also landed The Afghan Whigs their first-ever U.S. & U.K. Top 40 album debut: In the U.S. the album entered the Billboard Top 200 album chart at No. 31 and in the U.K., Do to the Beastentered at No. 40.
Earlier this week, Sub Pop also announced The Afghan Whigs’ leader Greg Dulli’s collaboration with author & longtime friend Danny Bland for I Apologize in Advance for the Awful Things I’m Gonna Do....Awful Things… is a 120-page, full-color, paperback collection of haiku written by Bland and is the first published collection featuring Dulli’s photography, with calligraphy by Exene Cervenka (co-founder of the band X).
