Polyvinyl Records and Tancred are excited to announce the April 1st release of Out of the Garden, the forthcoming album from the talented musician and songwriter also known as Jess Abbott. Produced by That Dog’s Anna Waronker and Off!/Redd Kross member Steven McDonald, Out of the Garden is Tancred’s first truly cohesive record: a mission statement that underscores the “power” in power-pop and is punctuated by lyrics as razor-sharp as the hooks. The first single “Sell My Head” was premiered today on Stereogum, who write that the song “simmers with a uniquely bold energy.” This spring Tancred hits the road in support of the new album for a month long tour of the U.S. kicking off in early March. “You can sense the catharsis in this song’s defiant, retrospective lyrics and aggressive guitar parts. On top of that there’s the grungy, almost surf-rock bass parts, upbeat drum patterns, and crisp vocals, all of it strongly communicating Abbott’s message.” - Stereogum
Written over a two-year period during a break from touring, Out of the Garden’s emphasis on re-defining feminine expectations was shaped by primary songwriter Jess Abbott’s experiences living in Minneapolis and working at a liquor store in a rough part of town. “I learned how to speak up when I needed to and how to truly be myself without reservation,” Abbott recalls. “I felt afraid walking home at night, and after a couple of months I just got sick of it and started getting into self-defense and self-empowerment as a means of coping. Finding my own strength changed everything.”
After writing and tracking every song in her apartment, Abbott (also of beloved Minneapolis trio Now, Now) enlisted Kevin Medina and Terrence Vitali to add drums and bass to her demos. The band then traveled to LA to record with McDonald and Waronker. Both producers proved to be the perfect collaborators, with each elevating the final takes via their specific areas of expertise - Waronker helped Abbott achieve the raw vocal attitude exhibited on songs like the seething “Hang Me,” while McDonald orchestrated the tailor-made guitar tones and trashy drum sounds highlighted on standouts like “Joey.” As a result, Out of the Garden showcases Tancred shedding its former skin in favor of a bolder and infinitely more confident sound. As Abbott reveals, “I wanted these songs to sound sickly sweet, with a looming, gory shadow behind them. Sugary, but when listening closely, unsettling.” Her fearlessness to delve into darker subject matter and other personal topics on Out of the Garden is referenced in the album’s title, an allusion to exiting Eden and leaving behind all the restrictive cultural norms ingrained in the Biblical “paradise”: tradition, purity, holiness, binary gender, heterosexuality, and the idea that anything is forbidden (especially for women). After recently sharing "This Ecstatic Cult," his collaboration with Killer Mike, Lushlife is back today to share "Strawberry Mansion," which features fellow Philadelphia hometown hero Freeway and was premiered by Sway In the Mornings on Sirius XM yesterday.
It's fitting, given that Freeway and Lushlife use "Strawberry Mansion" as a vehicle to pay homage to the city of Philadelphia, that the song's release would come in conjunction with the announcement of Lushlife's album release party in Philly at Johnny Brenda's on February 27th. That performance comes days after the release of his third full length Ritualize, which will see release on February 19th via Western Vinyl.

Tim Hecker: 'Love Streams' Released 8th April 2016 PRE-ORDER FROM 4AD STORE
Tim Hecker has shared details of his latest album, and his first for 4AD. The Canadian composer will release Love Streams, on 8th April 2016.The Love Streams sessions took place throughout 2014 and 2015 at Greenhouse Studio in Reykjavik, Iceland - where parts of both Virgins and Ravedeath, 1972 were tracked - with Hecker reuniting with the same crew of collaborators from Virgins (Kara-Lis Coverdale, Grimur Helgason) and bolstered by the Icelandic Choir Ensemble, whose vocal arrangements were scored by Icelandic composer Johann Johannsson.

Ebert has not been idle in the three years since the band's self-titled "Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros" album was released back in 2013. He has scored a number of films and earned a Golden Globe for Best Original Score on the film All Is Lost . No stranger to the major festival circuit with previous appearances at Coachella, Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits, and Life Is beautiful to name a few, the band will continue touring well into 2016, starting with a return to the location of one of their first triumphs when they play Coachella. Following the wild success of Anna Bulbrook’s GIRLSCHOOL August residency at the Satellite in Silver Lake, KROQ Locals Only, FLOOD, She Shreds, Origami Vinyl and Girl Gang present the first GIRLSCHOOL festival, Field Day Weekend at Bootleg Theater. Fronting the Bulls and a member of the Airborne Toxic Event, Bulbrook, inspired last year by listening to girls, ages 8 to 17 wanting to get onstage for the first time, has spearheaded the inaugural all-female weekend long festival. Taking place the weekend of January 29-31 at LA’s Bootleg Theatre, the stacked lineup is the clear next step for the popular format profiled in the LA Times, among other outlets. The lineup is full of impressive performers such as White Sea, Kera and the Lesbians, Miya Folick, Maria Taylor, Riothorse Royale, Kim and the Created, Bulbrook's own The Bulls, Kate Nash (DJ set), Gothic Tropic, and more. While the acts featured in GIRLSCHOOL events are 100% female-led, they include musicians of all genders. GIRLSCHOOL'S Field Day Weekend is an inclusive festival, giving the opportunity for fans of all gender identities to be a part of a contemporary, female, musical movement. Proceeds from this event will benefit the Rock’n’Roll Camp for Girls LA, a non-profit empowering and nurturing young girls through music education.

Proceeds from this event will benefit the Rock’n’Roll Camp for Girls LA, a non-profit empowering and nurturing young girls through music education.

According to Cate: "Crab Day was lovingly formed in the mouth of the Pacific Ocean, as it quietly mocked us with its magnitude. It's the sound of the 'accidentally on purpose' coming together of the right people at precisely the right time in an environment that furnished and fueled the abandonment we felt effortlessly. It's a coalition of inescapable feelings and fabricated nonsense, each propping the other up. Crab Day is an old holiday. Crab Day is a new holiday. Crab Day isn't a holiday at all."
To accompany Crab Day 's release, Cate recently spent time in Berlin where she shot a film directed by visual artist and film-maker Phil Collins. A trailer for the film has been revealed today which can be seen HERE . To complete a hat-trick of announcements, Cate has also announced shows in NYC and LA where she will perform Crab Day in it's entirety with Los Angeles semi-experimental, semi-improvisational music ensemble BANANA! Comprised of Josiah Steinbrick, Josh Klinghoffer, Stella Mozgawa, Stephen Black, H.Hawkline and Cate, BANANA will present a special opportunity to hear Crab Day in full color!

Great British band The Big Pink premiered the official video for their latest single “Hightimes” via Pitchfork. The video was directed by British visual artist Nova Dando and can be viewed/shared here.
“Hightimes” – out now -- is the first track taken from the band’s forthcoming EP titled “Empire Underground” (B3SCI Records) due out on March 4th, 2016. Pre-order the "Empire Underground” EP here .
“Empire Underground” features special guest contributors Andrew Wyatt and Dave Mccraken (producer of Ian brown), was mixed by the legendary Alan Moulder and is the perfect follow-up release to the band’s critically acclaimed full-lengths “A Brief History of Love” and “Future This,” both of which reached Top 10 status in the U.S Billboard Heatseekers and Tastemakers Album Charts. Full track-listing and artwork (designed by surrealist creative duo Oval-X) for “Empire Underground” can be found below.
In other news, today the band announced a highly anticipated headlining tour in North America this spring, which will include a pit stop in Austin, TX for SXSW Music Festival 2016.

(January 26, 2016)-Today, School Of Seven Bells are pleased to share a new track off their upcoming and final record, SVIIB . Entitled “Ablaze,” the song serves as a precursor to the album’s release on February 26, 2016. It was in the summer of 2012 that SVIIB was written, “That summer, when Benj and I started making the album, was one of the most amazing times of our relationship as two people,” Alejandra Deheza recounts. We were so happy, and we’d finally reached this perfect balance, after going through all the things we did together. There was no baggage, no hurt any more, everything was pure, true friendship. We’d hit every color on the spectrum. We were so close, and we had this flow like we’d never had before. That summer was so happy, and the mood and energy of this album perfectly captures that time.”
It was in early 2013 that Benjamin Curtis was diagnosed with a rare form of T-Cell Lymphoblastic Lymphoma, less than a year later Deheza would be the sole member of the group. Benjamin Curtis passed away on December 29, 2013.
In 2014 Deheza moved to Los Angeles to finish the record with Justin Meldal-Johnsen (Beck, Nine Inch Nails, M83). “For this album, Benj really challenged me to write differently, as far as lyrics go, and differently as far as the rhythms I was using. The music he gave me forced me to do that, in a really awesome way,” Alley reflects. The band had planned to work with Justin before Benjamin got sick, and he had already helped to record the album track ‘Confusion.’ So when the time came, the choice to work with Justin was easy. Alley and Justin worked off demos, so they knew what each track was intended to sound like. “I’m trying to feature Benjamin as much as possible”, Meldal-Johnsen says.
As soon as Alley was settled in LA it took the two only a month and a half to finish the record. “There were definitely points where I didn’t think I could finish this album. But it had to happen. I knew how much this meant to Benj. His entire life, everything in his body was music and making it. He never stopped. He had grown so much as a producer and a writer and he’d accomplished so much from the time I first met him. I couldn’t not let people see this work, because he deserves it.”
SVIIB will be released on February 26, 2016 via Vagrant Records in the US, and Full Time Hobby in Europe, but today fans can pre-order the album on iTunes.

Daptone Records, the fiercely independent label that has been delivering the gold standard for real soulful music for over a decade, is launching a video series of performances by its artists recorded live in the backyard of their Bushwick studio headquarters, affectionately known as "The House of Soul".

will debut with a full concert byCharles Bradley, followed by episodes from Antibalas,Menahan Street Band, The Mystery Lights, and more.
The first installment of Live From The House Of Soul is directed by Poull Brien and shot in the backyard of Daptone's House of Soul in Bushwick, Brooklyn. It features Charles Bradley at his best with the Menahan Street Band.
Bradley's voice has evolved from a lifetime of paying dues, having nomadically labored for decades at various day jobs from Maine to Alaska - singing and performing in his spare time - before re-settling in his hometown Brooklyn and eventually finding a musical home at Dunham. In his distinctively rough-hewn timbre, one hears the unmistakable voice of experience - each note and gruff inflection a reflection of his extended, sometimes rocky, personal path. It's only fitting that producer, Brenneck (also a member of The Dap-Kings and The Budos Band), would recognize in Bradley a kindred musical spirit - a singer whose performances exude both raw power and poignant beauty.
This Live From The House Of Soul series gives viewers an intimate look into the legendary stable of Daptone artists performing at home in a unique setting. The series will be completely produced in-house and feature the tough sound that Daptone has become famous for. More episodes are currently in production.
