John Carpenter announces 'Lost Themes II", announces first ever live shows

JOHN CARPENTER ANNOUNCES LOST THEMES II
+ FIRST EVER LIVE SHOWS
NEW ALBUM OUT APRIL 15TH ON SACRED BONES RECORDS                                                                                                                                        photo courtesy of Kyle Cassidy On Halloween 2014, the director and composer John Carpenter introduced the world to the next phase of his career with “Vortex,” the first single from Lost Themes, his first-ever album of non-soundtrack material. In the months that followed, Lost Themes rightfully returned Carpenter to the forefront of the discussion of music and film’s crucial intersection. Carpenter’s foundational primacy and lasting influence on genre score work was both rediscovered and reaffirmed.  Lost Themes achieved numerous international milestones, including NPR First Listen; features in dozens of press outlets including the Los Angeles TimesVanity Fair, Rolling StoneThe Wall Street JournalThe New York Times and The Guardian; three magazine covers; and Top 200 chart success in the U.S. and the U.K. The album was also a mile marker in its label’s catalog being one of the best selling albums in Sacred Bones’ eight-year history.  So widespread was the acclaim for Lost Themes that the composer was moved to embark on something he had never before entertained – playing his music live in front of an audience.
Today, Carpenter announces the schedule for his first live tour dates and in true Carpenter spirit, a sequel to Lost Themes Lost Themes II , which is due for release on April 15th via Sacred Bones.

The follow-up album brings quite a few noticeable changes to the process, which result in an even more fluid and thematic record. Lost Themes’ cowriters and musicians Cody Carpenter (John’s son) and Daniel Davies (John’s godson) both returned.  Unlike their first album, when they often worked over the internet exchanging themes over the course of several years, this time all three brought in sketches and worked together in the same city, a luxury they weren’t afforded on the first Lost Themes. The result was a more focused effort, one that was completed on a compressed schedule — not unlike Carpenter’s classic, notoriously low-budget early films.

During this time, the three of them also composed and recorded the main titles theme for the CBS drama, Zoo,  and Daniel also scored the feature film,  Condemned.   Cody was previously known for his work on the Masters of Horror  series and Daniel provided music for Lakeshore Entertainment, MTV and Warner Bros. television.

The musical world of Lost Themes II is also a wider one than that of its predecessor; more electric and acoustic guitar help flesh out the songs, still driven by Carpenter’s trademark minimal synth. This manifests itself brilliantly in songs like the lead single “Distant Dream,” which hitches a familiar Carpenterian beat to an expressive drum performance and rides it to a thrilling conclusion. The eerie “Angel’s Asylum” lets an ethereal synth line command the first three-quarters of the song, before turning over the melody to an acoustic guitar, and “Virtual Survivor” delivers a blast of the sci-fi menace that characterized his great scores for films like Assault on Precinct 13 and They Live.  Lost Themes II delivers eleven compelling new tracks with which fans can continue to score the movies in their minds.

John and his bandmates will hit the road this year performing both lost and newly found themes, in addition to retrospective work from Mr. Carpenter’s multi-generational career.  Lost Themes II will be released on April 15th, 2016 on Sacred Bones Records.

Long live the Horror Master.

Early praise for Sunflower Bean + Human Ceremony: "Three and a half minutes of impossibly jangly guitar bliss and sweet-dreams vocals make ['Easier Said'] the best thing we've heard yet from the New York psychedelic-rock trio..." - Rolling Stone   "The music is both restrained and aggressive...but like a lot of great rock'n'roll, it's also catchy, compelling, and concise." - Pitchfork
"Made up of old souls in photogenic forms, this teenage psychedelic rock trio mixes metal-influenced guitar squall with Arctic New Wave vocals..." - New York Times "...this band is full of surprises and shifts. There's an exhilarating feeling seeing this band live; I got the impression that they even surprised each other during the performance." - NPR's All Songs Considered "Another killer track...one of the band's best songs to date." - The FADER "In a haze of distorted guitars and psych-rock come Sunflower Bean, the Brooklyn trio who make wonderful, reverb-soaked music about things they are too young to even romanticize...['Easier Said'] sparkles and glitters, only a fleeting glimpse of a very promising record. - Stereogum

The Raveonettes Release "This World Is Empty (Without You) Track

DANISH DUO ANNOUNCE THE JAN 29th RELEASE OF
‘THIS WORLD IS EMPTY (WITHOUT YOU)’

THE FIRST TRACK IN THEIR 12 MONTHLY
RAVE-SOUND-OF-THE-MONTH SERIES
EMBED/WATCH: ‘THIS WORLD IS EMPTY (WITHOUT YOU)’ LYRIC VIDEO The Raveonettes have always strived to do things their own way both creatively and stylistically. 2016 is no different, and Sune Rose Wagner and Sharin Foo are about to release a brand new track entitled ‘This World Is Empty (Without You)’ as part of a series of releases. The band have created an official RAVE-SOUND-OF-THE-MONTH playlist where they’ll be uploading a freshly recorded track every month from now until the end of the year. They’re breaking with the norm and creating what they’re labelling an 'anti-album'. A collection of songs that aren't bound by the constraints of the format. A 12-month expedition, potentially schizophrenic and disjointed, potentially cohesive and related. How does March 2016 sound?! We have no idea. But it’s a gas. Join us for the Rave-sound-of-the-month and subscribe to the playlist.”

Sune Rose Wagner said of ‘This World Is Empty (Without You)’, “Writing a simple song's super hard and challenging so it took awhile for this one to be just right. The music, the words, the vibe, everything has to be just perfect. It’s one of the only songs I’ve ever written where adding a guitar simply didn’t work, not sure why, just happens I guess. The beat is my take on an 80’s Freestyle beat ala Debbie Deb, and the overall vibe of the song is much darker for sure” The duo’s aim is to capture the moment on record and they’re looking to take music lovers on this journey of personal highs and lows throughout the year with them. The Raveonettes kick it all off today – Friday 29th Jan – and will follow this track up on the last Friday of every month until December, when they’ll deliver the final track of this exciting body of work.

Wet is also bringing their intimate, signature sound to their first ever headlining tour, which kicked off on January 25th with a homecoming show in their native Massachusetts (see full list of dates below) and runs through Mid-February. The 14 city North American trek has become one of the most sought after live shows of the new year, with tickets selling out within hours of being released for their three New York City area shows (1/6, 1/28 & 29), as well as the tour’s two final shows in Los Angeles (2/15 & 2/16). The trio most recently came off a hugely successful 23 city North American fall tour in support of Canadian singer/songwriter Tobias Jesso Jr.

Hailed for their boundless emotional pop well documented by the New York Times, Spin, the Guardian, NPR, and multiple other media outlets, Wet has been greeted with a rousing response. The album’s opening track, “It’s All in Vain,” soared to #1 on Hype Machine and cracked the upper tier of the Spotify Viral 50 chart, with Entertainment Weekly noting the track in its ‘12 Songs To Hear Now.’ Complexnamed “Weak” among the ‘Best Songs of 2015’ and Disco Naivete anointed the evocative song as the #1 ‘Best Song of 2015.’ “Deadwater” was included on NPR’s prestigious ‘Favorite Songs of 2015’ list, with the radio network highlighting the band on NPR’s World Café 2016 Preview, citing their music as “profoundly emotional.”

Media tastemakers have reached a mutual consensus on the band’s rapid rise, with PopCrush citing the trio among the ‘Best New Artists of 2015,’ Pandora forecasting them as an ‘Artist To Watch in 2016’ and Consequence Of Sound including their upcoming debut effort in their list as one of the ‘50 Most Anticipated Albums Of 2016.’  Don’t You includes 11 tracks and was recorded in a rented house in the wooded confines of Hadley, Massachusetts where the band relocated to focus on the project.  The trio is comprised of the enigmatic Kelly Zutrau and multi-instrumentalists Joe Valle and Marty Sulkow.

Wet met through mutual friends as college students in New York City in 2007. After a few years of informal collaboration (Zutrau came to New York to study painting), they didn’t declare their official musical intentions until the summer of 2012. After releasing a few songs on SoundCloud, including the acclaimed "Don't Wanna Be Your Girl," the band began attracting a diverse and loyal following.  Their critically hailed self-titled debut EP garnered industry-wide attention and paved the path for their forthcoming major label release, Don’t You, to be made available everywhere on January 29.

Robert SmithsonWalter De MariaNancy HoltDennis Oppenheim & moreOne Cut, One Life posterFollowing its East Coast Premiere at the 53rd New York Film Festival, and a hold over in New York at IFC Center,  TROUBLEMAKERS: THE STORY OF LAND ART  will open at the Laemmle Monica Film Center in Los Angeles on February 5, 2016.  Click here for a complete list of playdates .

Troublemakers  unearths the history of land art in the tumultuous late 1960s and early 1970s. The film features a cadre of renegade New York artists that sought to transcend the limitations of painting and sculpture by producing earthworks on a monumental scale in the desolate desert spaces of the American southwest. Today these works remain impressive not only for the sheer audacity of their makers but also for their out-sized ambitions to break free from traditional norms.

The film casts these artists in a heroic light, which is exactly how they saw themselves. Iconoclasts who changed the landscape of art forever, these revolutionary, antagonistic creatives risked their careers on radical artistic change and experimentation, and took on the establishment to produce art on their own terms.

Troublemakers  includes rare footage and interviews which unveil the enigmatic lives and careers of storied artists Robert Smithson (Spiral Jetty), Walter De Maria (The Lightning Field) and Michael Heizer (Double Negative); a headstrong troika that established the genre. As the film makes clear, in making works that can never be possessed as an object in a gallery, these troublemakers stand in marked contrast to the hyper-speculative contemporary art world of today.

Troublemakers  features Germano Celant, Walter De Maria, Michael Heizer, Dennis Oppenheim, Robert Smithson, Nancy Holt, Vito Acconci, Virginia Dwan, Charles Ross, Paula Cooper, Willoughby Sharp, Pamela Sharp, Lawrence Weiner, Carl Andre, Gianfranco Gorgoni, and Harald Szeemann.

Director James Crump made his directorial debut at the 2007 Tribeca Film Festival with Black White + Gray, featuring the influential and legendary curator and art collector Sam Wagstaff and artist Robert Mapplethorpe. In 2013, Black White + Gray was named among Blouin ArtInfo's 20 Must-Watch Artist Documentaries. A curator and art historian, Crump is also the author or co-author of numerous books and has published widely in the fields of modern and contemporary art.  Troublemakers  is his second feature documentary.

RATATAT DEBUT NEW MUSIC VIDEO FOR “SUPREME”

RATATAT DEBUT NEW MUSIC VIDEO FOR “SUPREME

Today Ratatat released a self-directed video for “ Supreme ,” a song off their latest album  Magnifique  (out now on XL Recordings).  The duo recently completed a global tour, which included stops in Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia, and India. The video, shot by Evan Mast of Ratatat, includes footage from their transatlantic travel on the tour.

Ratatat’s 5th studio album saw the duo return to their core guitar-driven sound, yet on tracks like “Supreme,” the band experimented with slide guitar as an homage to artists like Santo & Johnny and Peter Drake. Mast explains further, “we wanted to borrow something from those classics sounds, but bring it into the present - to make a song that could’ve existed if that style of music had remained popular and kept evolving up until today. “

RATATAT recently completed a North American tour, shared a video for “ Pricks Of Brightness ” and made their late TV debut on  Last Call with Carson Daly  performing “ Abrasive ” and “ Shempi ,”  Cream On Chrome ” and “ Pricks Of Brightness ” for the show.http://www.ratatatmusic.com
