Acclaimed Israeli-French singer/songwriter Yael Naim is set to return to the U.S. for the first time since 2011 with three special Chicago & NYC performances that begin February 22nd. Revered for her soulful yet delicate vocals, Naim became an instant success both in her native France and abroad when her self-titled album went Gold in 2008. Lead single “ New Soul ” became a worldwide hit following an Apple advert handpicked by Steve Jobs himself.
Her new album Older is out now in France and coming to the U.S. later this year. Mixed by Grammy winning producer Michael Brauer (Coldplay , Grizzly Bear, M Ward), Older has already gone Gold in France and boasts two 2016 Victoires de la Musique (France’s equivalent to The Grammys) nominations for Female Artist Of The Year and Album Of The Year. She is set to perform on the televised awards ceremony later this month (Feb 12th).
Highlighted by singles “ Coward ” and “ Dream In My Head ,” Older is a collaborative effort by Naim and partner David Donatien. Recorded in their home on the outskirts of Paris, the album draws inspiration from Naim’s French and Israeli roots and features a variety of guest musicians - including Carolina Chocolate Drops’ Leyla Mccalla on the track “Ima” and drummer Zigaboo Modeliste from The Meters on “Walk Walk” - that create a construction of rhythm and vocals that build upon Naim’s signature sound.
For a taste of what Yael Naim has in store, be sure to catch her spellbinding live performances in NYC & Chicago later this month!

The album made an explosive chart debut upon its September release, entering the Soundscan/Billboard 200 at #10 - The Dead Weather's third consecutive top 10 debut. What's more, DODGE AND BURN came in at #1 on Billboard's "independent Albums" chart and #2 on both the "Alternative Albums" and "Rock Albums" rankings. Along with its worldwide popular success, DODGE AND BURN also reaped immediate critical acclaim from around the globe. ROLLING STONE awarded DODGE AND BURN its coveted lead review spot and called it the band's "most raunchiest and fun yet," while SPIN gave the album a rating of 8-out-of-10, noting The Dead Weather are "an outfit whose members are hardly content to rest on their past achievements. DODGE AND BURN is one of their greatest." "The Dead Weather's finest work to date," declared A.V.CLUB of the album's closing track, "Impossible Winner," calling it "exactly the kind of curveball that makes DODGE AND BURN so appealing." The Dead Weather "administer a thorough scrubbing to knackered old garage-rock until it gleams like the chrome fender on a Dodge," noted UNCUT, while CLASH praised DODGE AND BURN as "a sassy ball of madness coming at your ears at 120mph." DODGE AND BURN was heralded with a series of live performance videos - directed by Jack White and edited by White and Brad Holland - all of which can be viewed now at the band's official TheDeadWeatherTV. The Dead Weather made but one public live performance supporting DODGE AND BURN , blowing the roof off New York City's Ed Sullivan Theater with an electrifying rendition of "I Feel Love (Every Million Miles)" on CBS' Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Kyle Craft to release Dolls of Highland
worldwide April 29th through Sub Pop
Listen: “Lady of the Ark”
(Billboard premiere)

Sub Pop is pleased to announce that singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Kyle Craft will release Dolls of Highland, his label debut, on CD / LP / DL / CASS worldwide April 29th. The twelve track album features the singles “Lady of the Ark,” “Eye of the Hurricane,” “Future Midcity Massacre,” and “Black Mary”. Please find a tracklisting below.
Dolls of Highland was written, recorded and produced by Craft, mixed by Brandon Summers and Benjamin Weikel of The Helio Sequence at the Old Jantzen Building in Portland, and mastered by Greg Calbi at Sterling Sound.
Billboard says of Kyle Craft and“Lady of the Ark”: "Craft admits his voice sounds a good deal like Bob Dylan's, and that his muse has come to him many, many times. Still, "Lady of the Ark" hints that Craft's music is so full of its own weird singularity that he's on to something far beyond idol worship (see news story Thursday, February 4th).”
Dolls of Highland will be available for preorder from Sub Pop Mega Mart, iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, and Bandcamp. LP preorders from megamart.subpop.com will receive the "Loser" edition on pink vinyl with black swirl.
Kyle Craft has scheduled a hometown show on Sunday, February 7th at Mississippi Studios in Portland, Oregon. There will be additional tour dates announced shortly.
About Kyle Craft:
Kyle Craft grew up in a tiny Louisiana town on the banks of the Mississippi, where he spent most of his time catching alligators and rattlesnakes instead of playing football or picking up the guitar. He’s not the born product of a musical family, and bands never came through town--it was only a chance trip to K-Mart that gave him his first album, a David Bowie hits compilation that helped inspire him eventually to channel his innate feral energy into songwriting and rock and roll.
That self-made talent drives every note of Dolls of Highland, Craft’s exhilarating, fearless solo debut. “This album is the dark corner of a bar,” he says. “It’s that feeling at the end of the night when you’re confronted with ‘now what?’”
Craft knows the feeling well--Dolls began to take shape when everything he took for granted was suddenly over, including an eight-year relationship. “All of a sudden I was left with just me for the first time in my adult life,” he says. He decided to get himself and the music he’d been working on far away from the ghosts of his home in Shreveport, Louisiana, to make a new life for himself in Portland, Oregon, living under a friend’s pool table while he demoed new songs and started to tackle his own question about what came next.
Dolls of Highland crashes open with “Eye of a Hurricane,” a whirlwind of ragtime piano and Craft’s dynamic, enthralling vocals. He calls it a “jealous song,” stirred up by the memories of an ill-fated crush and a drama of “weird little connections, a spider web of what the fuck?”
The swinging, resonant “Lady of the Ark” is also tied up in that web, “a very incestuous song,” says Craft. “It’s about these messed up relationships, maybe involving me, maybe revolving around me.” Most of the characters and atmospheres on the album come from in and around Shreveport, where Craft briefly returned while recording the album for an intensely productive reckoning with his past. He stayed in a friend’s laundry room in the Highland neighborhood, where he recorded the whole album in two months on a home studio rig. “I dedicated the album to Shreveport and called it Dolls of Highland for all the girls and ghosts in town who influenced it so strongly.”
Craft eventually returned to Portland where Brandon Summers and Benjamin Weikel of The Helio Sequence helped refine and mix the album to move it from its DIY beginnings to a more fully realized work. Craft played most of the instruments on the album, but the recorded songs transmit the power of his live performance. “It's just letting go,” says Craft. “I think it's just all about feeling it in your chest.”
And then there’s Craft’s unforgettable voice--”I’m fully aware that I have a very abrasive, very loud voice, but Bob Dylan is the one that taught me to embrace that,” says Craft. “I stray away from him from time to time, but always come back. I don’t want to come off as antique, but I also don’t want to be afraid of paying homage to the stuff I’ve always loved.” With those influences as inspiration, Craft’s talent and singular creativity move the conversation into new and unpredictable places.
And no question, this album is very much about moving forward. “After everything fell apart, it didn't take very long for me to learn who I was and what I should be doing,” says Craft, who is walking out on the other side with Dolls of Highland.

Some of the best thrills of the Internet music revolution is the ability to find extremely rare music with great ease. But even with such vast archives to draw from, quite a lot of great songs have gone undiscovered for nearly half a century -- particularly in genres that lacked hifalutin arty pretense. Previously, only the most extremely dedicated and passionate record collectors had the stamina and prowess to hunt down long forgotten wonders in dusty record bins - often hoarding them in private collections, or selling at ridiculous collector's prices. Legendary compilations like Nuggets, Pebbles, ad nauseum, have exhausted the mines of early garage rock and proto-punk, keeping alive a large cross-section of underground ephemera. However, few have delved into and expertly archived the wealth of proto-metal, pre-stoner rock tracks collected on Brown Acid: The Second Trip .
Lance Barresi, co-owner of L.A./Chicago retailer Permanent Records has shown incredible persistence in tracking down a stellar collection of rare singles from the 60s and 70s for the growing compilation series. Partnered with Daniel Hall of RidingEasy Records, the two have assembled a selection of songs that's hard to believe have remained unheard for so long.
"I essentially go through hell and high water just to find these records," Barresi says. "Once I find a record worthy of tracking, I begin the (sometimes) extremely arduous process of contacting the band members and encouraging them to take part. Daniel and I agree that licensing all the tracks we're using for Brown Acid is best for everyone involved," rather than simply bootlegging the tracks. When all of the bands and labels haven't existed for 30-40 years or more, tracking down the creators gives all of these tunes a real second chance at success.
"There's a long list of songs that we'd love to include," Barresi says. "But we just can't track the bands down. I like the idea that Brown Acid is getting so much attention, so people might reach out to us."
One song on The Second Trip actually never even saw light of day, until now. "Bell Park Loon" bySpiny Norman - sounding like Jethro Tull on more acid and heavier cider - languished in a collector's archives, unreleased for 38 years until Barresi and Hall arranged to license some of the collector's goldmine.
Brown Acid: The Second Trip opens with the squealing guitar harmonies and Sabbath plod of Ash's "Midnight Wish." Sweet Crystal's "Warlords" is a fuzzy and fierce Deep Purple/Arthur Browninspired organ-led anthem. Raving Maniac's 'Rock and Roll Man" is a tight and brash glam-meets-metal tune proving the true potential of a genre later squandered on Sunset Strip poodleheads. "Silence of the Morning" by Glass Sun serves grungy psych while the Volt Rush Band merges MC5frantic energy with razor-sharp guitar leads. And, Iron Knowledge's aptly titled "Show Stopper" features a breakbeat and incredibly infectious detuned bass warble motif that DJs would kill for - had anyone been able to find the tune back in the day. Throughout, The Second Trip is yet another wall-to-wall set of blazing tracks that feels like you've uncovered a holy grail. And, in a way, you have. Brown Acid: The Second Trip will be available everywhere on LP, CD and download on April 20th, 2016 via RidingEasy Records. Pre-orders are available for digital (with immediate download of first single) at iTunes and Bandcamp, physical pre-orders at RidingEasy Records.
