James Supercave is excited to hit the road this spring supporting Wild Belle. The upcoming tour will make stops in Brooklyn, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Austin and more. The band also just announced aBrooklyn headlining show at Our Wicked Lady as a part of Indie Shuffle's Monthly Showcase as well as a performance at Collide's Not A Pool Party Coachella kick off event. Not A Pool Party will take place on April 14 at the Bardot Nightclub at the Hard Rock Hotel in Palm Springs and will also include sets by Dan Deacon and Magic Wands. All upcoming shows are listed below.
James Supercave is touring in support of their highly anticipated debut album Better Strange which is out now on Fairfax Recordings. Better Strange which was co-produced by Kevin Augunas (Cold War Kids, Nick Waterhouse, Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros) and the band is available 2xLP limited edition white vinyl (limited to 500), 2xLP black vinyl, CD, and digitally. Fans can order the album digitally via iTunes and black vinyl version via Amazon . KCRW's Eric J. Lawrence says, "It [Better Strange] is a perfect album title for the band, as they prove themselves masters of the odd angles and off-kilter pop melodies that are littered throughout their record, turning unlikely musical directions into indie gold."
James Supercave was profiled in NOISEY'S NEXT column where the band revealed their new single "Burn." Noisey's Andrea Domanick says "In the five years since the Echo Park psych-pop trio hit the scene, they’ve garnered band-to-watch accolades, local residencies, radio play, and touring and support slots with bands like Warpaint and Future Islands. Fans have been known to do things like knit James Supercave scarves. In 2014, a demo of their song "Burn" made it into rotation at LA's tastemaker radio station KCRW, who stamped it with a coveted “Track of the Day” designation." James Supercave's Joaquin Pastor adds "'Burn' was born from a bass line and wants to suck you in. It's the pulse of a year long mess."
Last year, the band along with close friend and up-and-coming auteur James Kid (whom also directed the band’s video for “The Right Thing”) created a short film documenting the making of the album at the legendary Sound City Studios in Van Nuys, Ca. and teases a new song titled, “Just Repeating What's Around Me.” Watch the video HERE.
The band also made waves combining Sophie Koko Gate’s award winning animation video "Half Wet" with their single of the same name, “Better Strange." The video, which premiered via Nerdist, is basically “like 90s cartoons did the same drugs that our music is hooked on. Beautiful, bizarre, hilarious;” states the band. Nerdist stated that based on this first glimpse that there “appears to be an excellent album on the way with Better Strange…” The track cuts the familiar slam and glam of psych-pop with the odd details that continually throw James Supercave into the uncanny valley of the pop genre: the lurching groove of the bass, the relentless loop of the synth, the shape-shifting timbre of the vocal. "You're so much better strange. You're so much better when you make mistakes with me," urges Supercave in a fit against normalcy. "Better Strange" dare the listener to commit to the mistakes they've always wanted to make.

“If there ever existed such a thing as a modern art album, Amen & Goodbye would undoubtedly be it” - Grimy GoodsToday Yeasayer shares a behind-the-scenes documentary, filmed during the creation of the cover art for their fourth studio album, Amen & Goodbye, available now through Mute. The gatefold album artwork, featuring a tableau of sculptures, actors and digital images, was created by the renowned artist David Altmejd – who narrated the behind the scenes documentary. Moloch, an ancient god of child sacrifice, a silent movie starlet, a breastfeeding mother, characters from the band’s songs past and present, and various other pop-culture and religious characters all take the stage for the cover art. "It's Sgt Pepper meets Hieronymous Bosch meets Dali meets PeeWee's Playhouse” say Yeasayer.
Altmejd, whose work is a major influence on the band, said the following about their collaboration: “I decided to offer them a sort of landscape filled with as many details as possible. I thought about a series of objects that would be inspired by characters that came from Yeasayer’s albums... but also characters that come from the news. There’s really fake looking sculptures, there’s printouts representing cartoony characters, there’s naked people… For me what’s very important is that the image offers enough visually for people to be really absorbed in the observation of details.”

Amen & Goodbye is the follow-up to 2012’s ‘Fragrant World’. Moving away from a digital-heavy approach, Yeasayer recorded Amen & Goodbye to tape at Outlier Inn Studio in upstate New York, then brought on boardJoey Waronker (drummer - Atoms For Peace / Beck) to deconstruct everything in order to make the final document.
The finished album has, as a loose concept, an underlying narrative informed by religion and transcendence, the afterlife and the search for meaning, and the songs stream together like a collection of strange fables from the Bible of some universe that does not yet exist. Amen & Goodbye features Yeasayer’s trademark sound without sounding like anything the band has done before.

To celebrate Record Store Day 2016 this Saturday, both Partisan and Knitting Factory records will release two exclusive vinyls. Currently out of print in the US, John Grant's breakthrough album Queen Of Denmark (named Best Album Of The Year by MOJO in 2010) will be available as a double vinyl. It will also include a bonus exclusive 7" featuring two live tracks performed with the Royal Northern Sinfonia.
Knitting Factory Records will release a limited edition 10" vinyl single of Fela Kuti's "I Go Shout Plenty," backed with "Frustration". Recorded in 1976 and originally intended for release in 1977, "Frustration" and "I Go Shout Plenty" were caught up and delayed by the aftermath of the Nigerian army's destruction of Fela and Afrika 70's communal home, Kalakuta Republic, in February 1977. Featuring an all star cast including Robert DeNiro, Jodie Foster, Cybill Shepard, Albert Brooks, and Harvey Keitel, TAXI DRIVER is regularly cited by audiences, critics, and film directors alike as one of the greatest films of all time. The music by legendary composer Bernard Herrmann was his final score before his death on December 24th, 1975.
Nominated for four Academy Awards, including Best Picture, the film was considered “culturally, historically, and aesthetically significant” by the US Library of Congress and was selected for preservation in the National Film Registry in 1994.
Waxwork Records is pleased to present TAXI DRIVER as a deluxe double LP featuring the complete film score by Bernard Herrmann on vinyl for the very first time, ever. Also included is the complete and remastered original 1976 soundtrack release.
Waxwork Records had the massive pleasure of working with legendary director Martin Scorsese on this 40th Anniversary release to which the director provided new, in depth, and exclusive liner notes. The new album artwork by Rich Kelly is also graciously approved by director Martin Scorsese.
