Third Man Records to release Death From Above 1979 live album
THIRD MAN RECORDS TO RELEASE DEATH FROM ABOVE 1979 LIVE LP
Today, Third Man Records announces the release of Death From Above 1979's epic live EP. For over 10 years, these international men of mystery, Jesse Keeler and Sebastien Grainger, have dipped their toes into whatever waters they pleased (MSTRKRFT, Deserts/Bad Tits, Femme Fatale, The Mountains, Black Cat No.13), and created songs that'll get you off your ass and make you feel things. A decade after a sudden break up, following the release of their rich and gritty first record You're A Woman, I'm a Machine, tours with Nine Inch Nails and Queens Of The Stone Age, and one foot in the door of the mainstream, Death From Above 1979 reunited and released their second LP The Physical World last fall. The duo picked right up where they left off and hit the road last summer. Amidst their resurgence, DFA 1979 decided to dip their toes in the water of Third Man Record's Blue Room. The room which is home to the 1953 Scully Lathe that previously cut James Brown singles at King Records, and where they decided to record the epic live performance to master and be reproduced for generations to enjoy. United Record Pressing has completed the pressing of these records and they are officially ready for release. The Live EP is set for release on April 22. "We've always been wary of live recording experiences because they can end up so sterile and flat sounding and they hardly ever translate the feeling of the actual show. The feeling of the moment," DFA 1979 said of the experience. "When we were asked to record Live At Third Man Records we agreed without hesitation. If there is one person who knows about feeling the moment, it's Jack White. He's the patron saint of vibes. We cut two twenty minute long sets straight to acetate. No second chances. Terrifying but alive. Third Man were such phenomenal hosts and the audience went bananas with us. It was such an honour to be a part of. The whole thing was such a rush, it almost feels like a dream." "Oh yeah, Mick Jagger was there. Did we mention that we went out to dinner with Jack and Mick after and then went bowling until 3am? It's also worth noting that Jack got the highest score followed by Sebastien. Mick and Jesse tied." Florence Welch and Vincent Haycock Unveil Short Film: The Odyssey
FLORENCE WELCH AND VINCENT HAYCOCK UNVEIL SHORT FILM: THE ODYSSEYFINAL CHAPTER, “THIRD EYE,” PREMIERESSCREENING IN LONDON TODAY; STREAMING IN FULL TOMORROW, APRIL 21, FOLLOWED BY FACEBOOK Q&A
[image error]
“This is the finale of a very personal project that came from a conversation me and Vince had in the Chateau Marmont about a year and a half ago while I was writing How Big How Blue How Beautiful,” saysFlorence Welch. “I was talking to him about the record and the car crash of a relationship break up I was going through. The highs and the lows of love and performance, how out of control I felt, the purgatory of heartbreak, and how I was trying to change and trying to be free. And we decided we would re-tell this story in full.We would re-claim this experience, re-imagine it and in some way perhaps I would come to understand it, to exorcise it. And so the Big Blue Odyssey began...”Florence Welch and director Vincent Haycock debut their short film
The Odyssey
today in full. The film, created for Florence + the Machine’s new album How Big How Blue How Beautiful and starring Florence, will premiere today with a screening at London’s Rio Cinema. A Q&A with Welch and Haycock hosted by celebrated music director A.G. Rojas, Haycock’s partner in art collective MAINLINE, will follow. The Odyssey unites each of the visual film segments created for How Big How Blue How Beautiful—“What Kind Of Man,” “How Big How Blue How Beautiful,” “St. Jude,” “Ship To Wreck,” “Queen Of Peace” and “Delilah,” as well as the final installment for “Third Eye”—into a 40-minute, cohesive short film complete with new, connecting scenes. The film will stream in full online for the first time ever tomorrow, April 21, at 2:00 p.m. ET viahttp://florenceandthemachine.net/, followed by a live Facebook Q&A with Florence and Haycock at3:00 p.m. ET, also hosted by Rojas.“The Odyssey, like the epic poem by Homer, is a journey,” says Haycock. “It’s Florence’s personal journey to find herself again after the emotional storm of a heartbreak. Like the layers of Dante’s purgatory, each song or chapter represents a battle that Florence traversed and physical landscape that embodied each song or story. Its a metaphorical journey about escaping your demons, confronting yourself and returning to the original Florence, the dancer, the performer, the lover.”Following a gigantic 2015, which saw the release of How Big How Blue How Beautiful, her first U.S. #1 album, Florence will tour with support from Grimes and Of Monsters And Men this summer. Dates include Brooklyn’s Barclays Center June 14 and 15, Chicago’s Hollywood Casino Amphitheater June 12, Boston’s Xfinity Center June 7 and many more. The tour kicks off May 13 in Miami.

LUH Reveals "Beneath the Concrete" Video, Debut Album Out May 6

LUH
REVEALS VIDEO FOR
“BENEATH THE CONCRETE”
SPIRITUAL SONGS FOR LOVERS TO SING
OUT MAY 6 2016 ON MUTE
"Huge in scope...urgent and climactic..." – New York Times
"Simply put, the whole thing sounds fucking colossal." – Pitchfork
"Alongside Ebony Hoorn, Roberts is defining a new, dark gospel..." – Consequence of Sound

This video is directed by LUH’s own Ebony Hoorn and features her and Ellery Roberts performing the song in front of a pulsing loop of distorted digital landscapes and an illuminated mass of hooded figures.
Check out the video for "Beneath The Concrete" here.
“Beneath The Concrete” is taken from LUH’s debut album Spiritual Songs For Lovers To Sing available for pre-order now and out on May 6, 2016 on Mute. The album was produced on the island of Osea by The Haxan Cloak (known for his own experimental compositions and work on Björk’s Vulnicura album).
Watch the album prologue created by the band here.
Following a successful run of shows across Europe in March, LUH recently announced a fresh set of live dates, which include an appearance at London’s Field Day Festival on Saturday June 11, and Chicago’s Pitchfork Festival July 15-17. Full details below.
LUH (which stands for Lost Under Heaven) is Ellery Roberts and Ebony Hoorn. Over the past two years, they have been releasing music, art, photography, film and manifestos into the world, including 2014’s “ Unites ” video, this year’s "I&I" video, and the expansive “ Lost Under Heaven ” music and artwork package at the end of last year.
Ellery’s name might be familiar as the frontman of WU LYF, whose raw and primal voice helped create a sound that shaped a new model for the untamed fury of youth. Ebony is an audio-visual artist based in Amsterdam, where the pair now live.

British Funk Pioneers Cymande To Tour U.S. For First Time Since 1973
BRITISH FUNK PIONEERS CYMANDE TO TOUR U.S.FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE 1973
Bonnaroo, SummerStage Central Park and D.C. Jazz Festival All Stops On Their U.S. Tour April 20, 2016 – Cymande, the British-based funk music pioneers, emerged as innovators of the funk music scene during the early 1970s. Influenced by their Caribbean heritage, the band combined reggae and Rastafarian rhythms with funk, soul, R&B, jazz and rock to create a new and exciting sound which captivated audiences throughout the United Kingdom, United States, Europe and the continent of Africa. The music of Cymande conveyed a true spirit of “togetherness”. This is reflected in the band’s emblem which incorporated a dove with the head of a Rastaman and symbolized peace and love. They made history in 1973 by becoming the first British-based band to perform at the Apollo Theater in Harlem, New York. Cymande’s legacy stands strong - they are one of the most sampled black British bands of all time.Cymande's music heavily influenced the Rare Groove/Deep House scene of the 1980’s and sampling by artists such as De La Soul, Wu-Tang Clan, and The Fugees kept their music relevant. The Guardian (UK) called them the “unsung, heroes of the black British music scene.” They defined their sound as “NYAH-ROCK” based on the fusion of Rastafarian rhythms with other musical styles, R&B, Soul, Jazz. Cymande founder members, Patrick Patterson and Steve Scipio, reunited in 2011 with original members Sam Kelly, Mike Rose, Pablo Gonzales and Derrick Gibbs to record a new album, A Simple Act of Faith, under the guidance of their original producer, John Schroeder. After several successful European tours, the band has finally scheduled their first U.S. tour in over four decades.“We are looking forward with great anticipation to Cymande’s first tour of the United States in 40 years,” Steve Scipio remarked. “Our musical journey has taken us many places but America will always have a special place in our hearts because it was there, way back in the 70s, that the distinctive sound of Cymande’s music found its deepest and most sustained recognition and acceptance,” "In 1973 we had the privilege of undertaking our first tour of the United States of America. During that tour we appeared at some amazing venues including the Spectrum in Philadelphia, Rutgers University,……and what for us stands out as an enormous privilege in playing at the iconic Apollo theatre in a residency for one week alongside some iconic names in music,” added Patrick Patterson. Formed in 1971 by Patrick Patterson (guitar, vocals) and Steve Scipio (bass, vocals). The core members of the band comprised them along with: Sam Kelly (drums), Mike Rose (sax, flute, percussion), Pablo Gonsales (percussion, vocals) and Derrick Gibbs (alto sax). They were later joined by Ray King and Joey Dee (vocals) as well as Peter Serreo and Desmond Atwell (sax). In 1971 the group met and began to work with record producer John Schroeder, and with his guidance, Cymande recorded their debut album called simply Cymande. Cymande’s first album was released in the UK on the Alaska Record Label in 1972 and later in the same year, was released in the USA under Janus Records, a division of Chess Records. From that album, the group released two singles “The Message” followed by “Bra.” “The Message” ignited a wave of interest and generated a large following of fans in the U.K and the U.S.A. and reached #22 on the Billboard R&B chart. The Group began touring across America with the likes of R&B soul music super star Al Green and later went on to tour with Jerry Butler, Patti La Belle, Billy Preston, Ramsey Lewis, Edwin Starr and Albert King. The Band’s debut album became the fastest selling album on the Janus record label. Cymande went on to record two further albums with producer John Schroeder, Second Time Round (1973) and Promised Heights(1974). Late in 1974 Jimmy Lindsay replaced Joey Dee on lead vocals when Joey left to pursue a solo career. Cymande stopped performing in 1975. Cymande released a brand new critically acclaimed album in 2015: A Simple Act of Faith which was recorded with their original producer, John Schroeder. The band are now planning a series of worldwide live performances and festival appearances throughout what looks to be, a very exciting 2016. MINOR VICTORIES - Slowdive, Mogwai & Editors members - Share New Single

*DISCLAIMER: NO CATS WERE HARMED BY LASERS IN THE MAKING OF THIS VIDEO*

Early praise for Minor Victories:
"The music is moody and atmospheric and entirely beautiful." - NPR Music's All Songs Considered "The tired old "supergroup" concept finally has more potential to be super...Minor Victories' synth-pop is stylishly dusky, with lush orchestral touches, motorik persistence, and a closing guitar cacophony." - Pitchfork (Best New Track) "a track that weaves together the atmospheric, shoegazing sound of the band members' other outfits." - Rolling Stone "Minor Victories is an album to anticipate breathlessly." - Stereogum Minor Victories - the indie supergroup comprised of Mogwai's Stuart Braithwaite, Slowdive'sRachel Goswell, Editors' Justin Lockey and his brother James - will release their self-titled debut this summer, and today they share a stellar new track off of the record. Following the hauntingly cinematic "A Hundred Ropes" and the gorgeous shoegaze of "Folk Arp," "Scattered Ashes (Song For Richard)" takes the band in a brighter direction and features James Graham of The Twilight Sad. PRESS HERE to watch the video now via Noisey. Warning: there will be cats, and there will be lasers.
Minor Victories recently announced their debut shows, and will play their first-ever North American dates in June. See below to find a show near you and PRESS HERE for tickets.
Produced and engineered by Justin, and featuring the likes of Mark Kozelek and James Grahamfrom The Twilight Sad, Minor Victories will be released on June 3rd, 2016 via Fat Possum Records. What began as Justin's desire to create an extreme noise EP topped off by a delicate female vocals, Minor Victories became a cinematic 10-track LP, masterfully crafted by four band members who had somehow never even all been in the same room together until after the album was completed. Far more than a side project for its members, this record unveils the real essence of what a group of talented individuals unshackled by convention can attain. Brought together by brief meetings, mutual acquaintances and overall serendipity, Minor Victories created this album together by swapping ideas, songs, fragments and finished recordings via broadband connections. This unusual process, combined with the members' wide spectrum of musical tastes and experiences converging, ultimately led to something beyond the original vision of any of the contributors that pushes new boundaries and new sounds into uncharted waters.

What came out was what you see before you - our Acoustic Adventures EP. I love reducing our songs back to their original state on the acoustic guitar, which is how they're written in the first place before we ramp everything up to 10. I also love playing on the acoustic guitar some of my favourite songs by other artists, and on this EP is a taster of some of my most beloved Europop ( Annie's "Heartbeat") and metal (Deftones' "Risk"), which I hope adds a little spice to our original material rendered on the acoustic guitar. I hope you enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed recording!"Tracklisting:

LAURA MVULA'S SOPHOMORE ALBUM 'THE DREAMING ROOM' TO BE RELEASED JUNE 17

TO BE RELEASED JUNE 17

Apple Music / iTunes | YouTube | Spotify | VEVO (Columbia Records; New York, NY – April 19, 2016) Following her rise into the limelight with her universally adored debut album ‘Sing To The Moon’, Laura Mvula has announced that new album ‘The Dreaming Room’ will be released June 17th via Columbia Records.
Additionally, Laura has unveiled a remarkable new track from the album today – listen to “Phenomenal Woman” HERE. The 1970’s-style gospel funk number is inspired by a poem of the same name by the remarkable Maya Angelou.
From the Afro-disco ‘Overcome’, packed with upbeat sounds and intricate harmonies layered beneath stunning tribal beats, to the captivating ‘Kiss My Feet’- a mass of disjointed beats and bereft lyrics, to the epic and bold ‘People’, inspired by the crisis of black identity in the west, the music that makes up ‘The Dreaming Room’ is lively and ferocious. The cornerstone of the record is a hymn-like ballad that swells to mighty proportions called ‘Show Me Love’.
Amidst the struggle, Laura believes that she has written “A beast of an album” in ‘The Dreaming Room.’ “I never thought I’d be able to. This is the hardest I’ve worked on anything. I’ve grown up - by taking the music more seriously, I take myself less so. When I listen to this music I feel whole. I feel so at home in myself. I feel comfortable”.
Taking the writing of this album out of the studio and in to the garden shed of her producer and musical director Troy Miller, Laura also recruited The London Sympathy Orchestra, Wretch 32 (People) and guitar giants Nile Rodgers and Miles Davis collaborator John Scofield (Overcome) to help create the album.
“Phenomenal Woman,” “Overcome” and “People” are available now on iTunes, Amazon and Spotify.
ABOUT LAURA MVULA
Since announcing the release of her debut EP in 2012, Laura has been picking up critical acclaim and support from some of the biggest tastemakers out there. Laura's unique sound has entranced critics, leading The New York Times to proclaim, “She’s a musical architect,” while The Wall Street Journal praised her debut as “quietly yet forcefully brilliant.” Her debut album, Sing To The Moon , made many critics’ year-end lists, including The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, LA Times, Rolling Stone, People Magazine, NPR, Vulture, the New York Daily News,Buzzfeed, and more. The album reached the Top 10 in the UK, Won 2 Mobo Awards for Best Female and best R and B Soul Artist and received Mercury, Ivor Novello and Brit Awards nominations.
Laura is graduate from the Birmingham Conservatoire with a degree in composition and started writing songs on her laptop while working as a supply teacher in a Birmingham secondary school. As one of the most exciting musical talents to come out of the UK, Laura has certainly come a long way since writing songs on her laptop. Now critically acclaimed, her unique character and musical mind has broken the boundaries of music once again.

The world renowned festival, AFROPUNK BROOKLYN, has announced the lineup for its critically acclaimed annual weekend-long celebration, AFROPUNK BROOKLYN to take place on August 27 & 28 at Brooklyn's Commodore Barry Park in Fort Greene. The 2016 AFROPUNK festival continues to be a bastion of multicultural diversity that manages to bring together a vast array of music acts, art and culture as is evident by a lineup that includes Ice Cube, Flying Lotus, The Internet, Thundercat, Angel Haze, Saul Williams Benjamin Booker, Skunk Anansie, Skye & Ross from Morcheeba, Galant, SPZRKT and many more (full lineup below). The festival will be home to more than 60 acts throughout the weekend and will feature three stages with its first ever Brainfeeder & Soulection stages.
During this important election year, with self-empowerment winds blowing through the air, the themeAFROPUNK has chosen for the 12th installment of the festival is "POWER TO THE PARTY."Power, it's a feeling, it's an energy, it's the undisputed connection between cause and effect - the best of us give it away, the worst usurp it, but living modern life to the fullest, means either mastering your relationship to it or walking in its shadow. We are not blind. Party is an oxymoron, it's a gathering of many for a shared purpose and it's also an outcast individual, it's a lively social occasion as well as a gang - and the story of any party is never over, because like naked cities and the metaphysical "I", there's always another take. Power to the Party means trusting the friction, the transference of great capacity to the free spirit, belief in the high-heeled spark of the assembly, and the group-mind's ability to choose a glorious path. This isn't about getting elected, or being protected; it's about staking a claim. Join the party and feel its power. In addition to the various performances, AFROPUNK will provide grounds to a vibrant community of well over 100 craft artisans and 25 food vendors. Attendees will also be able to view original artwork and murals created in conjunction with the Art for Amnesty (Amnesty International USA) and Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts (MoCADA). By providing an avenue for the community's voice to be heard and celebrated the festival sticks to its roots as it aims to unleash freedom of expression while honoring the power of individuality.
Given its rising popularity the festival will continue to keep its paid ticket as the most affordable in the country for the array of talent and will also bring back its earned ticket program. AFROPUNK has long been known as an advocate of cultural change, especially within the Brooklyn community. The earned ticket program, called AFROPUNK Army, gives fans the opportunity to volunteer for admittance. Last year AFROPUNK worked closely with partners to provide volunteer activities and projects for 16,000 fans to complete in exchange for a ticket to the festival (a minimum of 8 hours of volunteer work will earn ONE General Admission Weekend Pass) this year. The volunteer program creates awareness for organizations and helps deliver a sustainable impact to communities in need.
