After the reissue of the first two volumes - Intoxicated Man and Pink Elephants - as a double album in 2014, Harvey began playing select shows in Australia and Europe (including shows at Primavera and London’s Union Chapel) and the enjoyment factor was so high it inevitably led to speculative discussions on whether it was time to resume and expand the project.
The intervening years have, of course, been full of activity and dozens of releases including four solo albums and several albums as a member of Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds and in collaboration with PJ Harvey. So what led to the rekindling of interest in the songs of Serge?
Mick explains: “Many of the songs I have recorded are ones I had hoped to translate the first time I approached this material, but I just thought they would be ones that were too hard to translate. But once I sunk my teeth into the task I found they were no more problematic than most of the songs from the first two albums.” says Harvey. “The whole project has just been enormous fun to be honest.”
Delirium Tremens brings us another wide cross-section of Gainsbourg material. From 1976’s “The Man With The Cabbage Head” (L’homme à Tête De Chou) all the way back to early songs such as “Deadly Tedium” (Ce Mortel Ennui) and “Coffee Colour” (Couleur Café) from the late 50s and early 60s. There is even a version of “SS C'est Bon” (Est-ce Est-ce Si Bon), from Gainsbourg’s controversial album Rock Around The Bunker, an album drenched in black humor and bad taste, coming as it does from a French man with Jewish ancestry.
In addition, Harvey presents a selection of five songs from the TV special “Anna” (starring Anna Karina) – including “Don't Say A Thing” (Ne Dis Rien) - with the female parts here executed with enormous charm by Xanthe Waite who has been joining Harvey on his recent shows. The album is rounded out by a beautiful rendering of the late period Jane Birkin duet “The Decadance” (La Décadanse) with Harvey joined on vocals by his wife Katy Beale.
Delirium Tremens was recorded in Melbourne with Harvey’s Antipodean-based core live band, 10 songs were tracked at Birdland Studios. The project then relocated to Berlin where a further nine songs were recorded with Toby Dammit (The Stooges, The Residents) and Bertrand Burgalat (of French label Tricatel), who was the string arranger on the first two volumes.

LISTEN: "The Urge" via Noisey or SoundcloudPremiered by Beats 1 & Vice Noisey, Baby In Vain's "The Urge" opens with jagged synths. It's a dangerous and seductive new track showing another side to the heavy-hitting Danish trio. The track is off their debut EP For The Kids coming out April 29th (vinyl out June 10th) via Partisan Records.
According to guitarist and vocalist Andrea Thuesen, the track was initially inspired by a documentary she watched in which serial killers described their bloodlust and urge to kill. The song quickly morphed, as Andrea compared this feeling to the urge that many monogamous couples feel to explore other sexual relationships outside their own, and how infidelity, to some people, can be almost as unforgivable an act as murder.
Of the track, Andrea says:"'The Urge" wasn't always the smash hit it is today. It actually started out as being kind of a simple, classic, riff based rock. Though we all liked the song, it didn't really seem to reach its full potential, and we couldn't quite figure out what to do about it. Then our producer, Mads Bergland, did something completely mental. He replaced all of the rhythm guitar, with a synth bass. The first time we listened to it we were in shock. It was so unlike anything we had ever done musically. But then it just started to make sense, and now none of us can even remember the original idea. It was exactly what needed to be done to the song!"
Baby In Vain recently unveiled the darkly twisted video for "Martha's View" as well as three shows with The Kills and a string of EU tour dates.

In support of their highly anticipated forthcoming album Love You to Death (out June 3 on Warner Bros. Records), Tegan and Sara will hit the road this Fall for a North American headlining tour. The 40-date tour will kick off September 9th in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and will run through November 16th in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, making stops in major cities across the United States and Canada (see below for full list of dates). Tegan and Sara have also announced tour dates in London and Australia, with additional international dates to come soon. Tickets will go on sale this Friday, April 29 via http://teganandsara.com/shows/. For the entirety of their North American tour, Tegan and Sara have partnered with the amazing people at Plus One, who will donate $1.00 from every ticket sold to organizations addressing some of the world's biggest challenges. On Wednesday April 20th, icons of punk Descendents performed their first South Bay area show in 20 years at The Standing Room in their hometown, Hermosa Beach, California. The show was an unannounced event for a room of 200 people. Descendents performed a diverse set of classics (and a few new songs) for locals in the small restaurant / bar owned by Pennywise guitarist Fletcher Dragge.
Descendents will play at Punk Rock Bowling & Music Festival in Las Vegas on May 29, Punk Rock Bowling & Music Festival in Asbury Park, New Jersey on June 11, and September 24 at Picnic in Pozo. More info coming soon on new music fromDescendents.
Formed in 1978 Descendents are Karl Alvarez (bass), Milo Aukerman (vocals), Bill Stevenson (drums), and Stephen Egerton (guitar). They have released six studio albums, Milo Goes to College (1982), I Don't Want to Grow Up (1985), Enjoy! (1986), Everything Sucks (1996), and Cool to Be You (2004).

London's Ultimate Painting is hitting the highway in the US of A and taking their not-yet-released Live at Third Man Records full-length LP with them. This means, this formidable addition to the Third Man Live series will be available EARLY and RIGHT ON TIME for concert-goers. The band's forthcoming spring tour with Woods begins April 23 in Chicago. The same tour, incidentally, passes right throughNashville and Third Man's own Blue Room. This LP is oozing with seriously SUPREME CUTS from both Ultimate Painting and Green Lanes (both released via Trouble in Mind). In some cases (like "Ten Street" and "Ultimate Painting") slick old favorites are stretched to their limits. It stands as a first-rate document of live rock 'n' roll that hits you like cold rain plus hot toddy. All the while taking special care not to bury lyric and beautiful harmonies under a security blanket of guitar squall and pointless effects. Straight to the point and totally balanced! A fantastic listen through and through and a perfect compliment to the LP. Put 5/27 in your calendar as a "Day of Good Music," especially if you don't see your coordinates on the list below.
