Islands Share “The Weekend” video with Pitchfork; On Tour Now with Lushlife & Honus Honus

Islands share official video for "The Weekend" filmed by Sebastian Grainger of DFA1979, via PitchforkTwo New Albums Taste and Should I Remain Here At Sea? Out Now On Manqué MusicOn Tour Now with Lushlife & Honus HonusWatch: "The Weekend" official video via Pitchfork Islands have just released TWO new albums Taste and Should I Remain Here At Sea?. Both albums are available now on vinyl, limited edition cassette and digitally via Manqué Music. Taste and Should I Remain Here At Sea? are two distinct, entirely unique records, each one a wholly individual offering. Both releases are available to order now via  BandCamp  and iTunes (Taste  Should I Remain Here At Sea? ) and via the  band's Pledge Music page The band shared the official video for “The Weekend” from Taste with  Pitchfork.  The video was shot on an iPhone on location in Bogotá and Santa Marta, Colombia by Sebastien Grainger (Death From Above 1979). Islands’ Nick Thorburn says, “In February 2016, I was going down to Colombia to act in a movie and since it was going to be my first time in South America, I decided to go a week early. On a whim, I asked my friend Sebastien Grainger to come with me. My bandmate Evan Gordon suggested that I make a video while I was down there, and since I'm terrible at being on vacation, Seb pulled out his iPhone and we got to work. ‘The Weekend’ is, in so many ways, about the idea of being a tourist, physically or otherwise, so it all seemed pretty fitting. We shot the video in Bogota and on the streets of Santa Marta.” This week, Islands kicked off their North American tour in support of the new releases. The tour will will make stops in Brooklyn, Chicago, Toronto, San Francisco, Los Angeles and more. The west coast run will be supported by Honus Honus (of Man Man), while the east coast dates will be supported byLushlife. All upcoming shows are listed below. Last summer, Islands decamped to a little studio in Toronto to record the upcoming albums. Taste, Islands’ sixth record, is a muscular, crystalline affair, with the majority of the music electronic, buoyed by drum machines, programming and arpeggiated vintage synths. The songs still flirt with Islands’ bread and butter; evergreens such as ennui, remorse, and a general disenchantment with the modern world hover over the tracks, with lines like “we got so thrown, we felt lost at home” and “steal a little moment, lose it like you own it”, to hammer home the point. The songs cut a wide swath, however, and also go in directions that Islands has never tackled, including police brutality and white male privilege (!).Should I Remain Here At Sea? (a semi-reference to Tarkovsky’s "Solaris") Islands’ seventh album is, in many ways, a spiritual sequel to the debut album, 2006’s Return to the Sea; a natural, raw record, stripped down to it’s essentials, performed live off the floor. Reflecting on the decade that has elapsed, SIRHAS kicks off with a darkly funny tartness, tackling religion, race, addiction, and murderous fantasies, but by midpoint, the songs give way to a resigned and doleful melancholia, tackling heartache, numb disillusionment and emotional disorientation through the guise of stupid parrots, the Internet, sea turtles and perhaps the loneliest maritimer to ever sail the seas. It was recorded as spontaneously as could be, with some of the songs captured live in one take, vocals and all.Additionally, Nick Thorburn composed new music for season two of Serial, including the show's theme song. The soundtrack features additional scoring by Mark Henry Phillips and Fritz Myers and is available now to stream and download via  BandCamp  and Pledge Music. Speaking to  Vulture  Thorburn noted, "For the first season I used a lot of guitar stuff. This one I used a lot more synths. It’s a little more ambient-sounding. It’s not electronic, but it’s atmospheric. You identify the atmosphere. I think there can be a symbiotic relationship between the two [Serial Soundtrack], especially for Islands."  ISLANDS UPCOMING TOUR DATES 05.19 Montreal, QC @ Bar Le "Ritz" P.D.B

Haley Bonar Shares "Called You Queen" With NPR's All Songs Considered; New Album Impossible Dream Out August 5

Haley Bonar Shares "Called You Queen" With NPR's All Songs Considered New Album Impossible Dream Out August 5 Photo credit: Graham Tolbert"She's a remarkable performer, with a terrific ear for detail and a gift for masking melancholy observations with hooks that stick." - NPR“Bonar creates a whimsical masterclass of indie-pop songwriting.” - Consequence Of Sound"In the past 10 years, she naturally progressed from stripped-down folk and country music to incorporating various layers of sound ranging from classical piano to sunshine pop.” - Interview Stream: “Called You Queen” via NPR Stream: “I Can Change” via Stereogum or SoundCloudHaley Bonar is set to release her upcoming full length album Impossible Dream on August 5th via GNDwire (US) / Spit Comet (CA) / Memphis Industries (UK + EU). The album was recorded on analog tape in at Pachyderm Studios in Cannon Falls, MN and was mixed by Chris Coady (Beach House, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, TVOTR) & Robbie Lackritz (Feist) at Haut Bruun. On this week's  NPR’s All Songs Considered  show Bob Boilen premiered “Called You Queen” from the upcoming release. Haley Bonar says,“‘Called You Queen’ is at once an anthem for growing up gay in a small midwestern town and a love story about a woman in love with a man who's going through just that. Standing by him through painful times, she makes peace with the form of love that they can have together.” Stream “Called You Queen” hereEarlier this month,  Stereogum  premiered “I Can Change” from Impossible Dream and said, “the record’s lead single, is all about breaking out of repeating patterns, as the title suggests, and Bonar’s voice takes on a steely resolve against the rolling, woodsy instrumentation that beckons for forward momentum. ‘I could be so happy if I let myself be happy,' she sings at one point. 'But I’m too busy behaving for a crowd.’”Haley Bonar told Stereogum:“Everybody wants a story. Something to sell. I’m here to tell you that there isn’t one with this album, at least in the traditional sense, but ten. Perhaps each of them contain more stories, sitting inside each other like nesting dolls. I could sit here and tell you that some of the songs are about growing up in the Black Hills. Some of the songs are about my parents. Some of the songs are about sexuality. Some of the songs are about loss of youth, teenage parenthood, the lines of social disorder for women, or the terror of jealousy and suspicion. But what I write is borne of my own set of memories and ideas, and once they are released into the world, they do not belong to me anymore. The interpretation is all yours, therefore these stories are yours. What I can tell you is this: My name is Haley Bonar (rhymes with “honor”). I’m 33 years old, a Taurus, and I live in Saint Paul, MN with my daughter Clementine. I also sing in a band called Gramma’s Boyfriend.” BBC 6 Music have added "I Can Change" to rotation  and Apple has added it to their A-List: Alternative Playlist. Haley Bonar has also announced several spring midwest and UK shows. Look for more tour dates to be added in the coming weeks. All confirmed dates are listed below.  Haley Bonar is more than a hard working musician. She is an innovator, creative ass-kicker and visionary dug into the trenches of living. She writes genuine, epochal and poetic tales that feel like our heartbreak, failure, frustration and joy. In a clear, insistent and often haunting voice, she tells real stories back to us, as if they were our own. It just doesn't get much better than that. Yeasayer Unveils "Silly Me" Video, North American Tour Underway

YEASAYER SHARES NEW VIDEO FOR “SILLY ME”
THE PREQUEL TO “I AM CHEMISTRY”
DIRECTED BY MIKE ANDERSON

“SILLY ME” IS TAKEN FROM THE NEW ALBUM
AMEN & GOODBYE , OUT NOW ON MUTE “pushing the boundaries of experimental pop since 2007” – Entertainment Weekly

“Yeasayer remains the definitive tether of originality for music today." – Grimy Goods

“Amen & Goodbye channels the trio’s technical virtuosity into sheer, exhilarating joy.” – NYLON

"A beautiful, trippy, mind-blowing album with smart, catchy songwriting." – Popmatters

“ushering you toward a new level of consciousness.” – The VergeToday, Yeasayer shares their new video for “Silly Me,” the band’s current single from their recently released fourth studio album,  Amen & Goodbye.

Directed by Mike Anderson / New Media Ltd, the odd and fascinating video is the prequel to “I Am Chemistry” and is available to watch  here .

Explains Anderson, “We use a pretty unique approach; pretty much everything in every frame is handmade and hand-painted. We then 3D scan all of it, bringing it into the computer so it's entirely recreated digitally. We record motion-capture of performers and apply the data to the characters for the animation. The lighting is all done in the computer. So while the final product is ostensibly CGI, nearly everything you're seeing is a digital record of something we directed or fabricated in real-life. Best of all worlds.”

Amen & Goodbye  is the follow-up to 2012’s Fragrant World. Watch the video for their previous single, “I Am Chemistry”  here , featuring guest vocals from the legendary folk singer Suzzy Roche of The Roches.

The Faint Share New Single “Young & Realistic” With Stereogum; Fall Tour Dates With Gang Of Four Announced

The Faint Share New Single  “Young & Realistic” With Stereogum Fall Tour Dates With Gang Of Four Announced Stream: “Young & Realistic” via Stereogum or Streaming ServicesThe Faint have shared their new single “Young & Realistic” with Stereogum. The Faint’s Todd Fink says, "I believe this one goes in The Faint Danse Party folder. We wrote, recorded, and mixed it ourselves here at our studio in Omaha, Nebraska. Pretty song-y for club music and pretty clubby for indie/punk, this one falls right in the sweet spot. I love that warm bouncy bass synth (it's a CS15 if you must know).” He adds, “This might be a love song. Maybe it’s a respect song.  Those are intertwined concepts I suppose. Without respect, love is a weaker bond.” “Young & Realistic” is available to share on all streaming servicesThe Faint also announced North American fall tour dates with Gang Of Four. Todd Fink says, "We are so psyched to play shows with Gang Of Four this fall. They’ve been a long time influence on The Faint. Life is insane." The upcoming tour kicks off on September 29 in Minneapolis at First Avenue and makes stops in major cities including Chicago, New York, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Los Angeles and more. The tour will conclude with a hometown show in Omaha on Halloween at Sokol Auditorium. All upcoming tour dates are listed below. “Young & Realistic” is The Faint’s follow up to 2014’s critically acclaimed album Doom Abuse which in many ways, is in parallel with a rebirth of the band itself. The Faint, started in Omaha in the mid-‘90s, have always created against the grain, disinterested in making anything except what their own inspiration drives them to make. Each album since their 1998 debut Media has shifted and evolved that desire. The musicians themselves are the constant, together embracing a style that is truly unlike every other band out there.
