DESERT DAZE 2016 lineup

DESERT DAZE ANNOUNCES PHASE ONE LINEUP FOR 5TH ANNUAL FESTIVAL VIA NOISEY
MOVING TO JOSHUA TREE & EXPANDING TO THREE DAYS AND NIGHTS
SUICIDE'S FIRST WEST COAST PERFORMANCE IN 16+ YEARS, THE BRIAN JONESTOWN MASSACRE, THE SONICS, DEERHUNTER, THE BLACK ANGELS AND MORE TO PERFORMThe 5th annual Desert Daze has metamorphosed and emerged from its chrysalis reborn, harkening back to what music festivals once were, while illuminating the future of what music festivals can be.

For the love of music, culture and celebration, Desert Daze is creating an event that celebrates the music you love: not a "music festival", but a "festival of music." Relocating to the evocative and otherworldly Institute of Mentalphysics in Joshua Tree, California, Desert Daze will be three outdoor stages of incredible live music, an indoor space for alternative programming (speakers, workshops, Q&A's, audio / visual performances and more), vendors, bars, food trucks and an indoor diner.

At this intentionally limited capacity event, attendees can stay in deluxe on-site cottages designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and son Lloyd Wright, sleeping 2 to 7+ available to rent for the weekend, in addition to RV, car, and tent camping across the joshua-tree studded landscape.

"Desert Daze is a real anomaly as far as festivals go. It fosters the genuine connection between bands and their audience. I'm legitimately excited every year to see whom they've conjured to play and I've enjoyed it equally as an artist and as a punter. A real treat!" - Stella Mozgawa of Warpaint

"It's very hard to find a festival where commerce takes a back seat to art, as it should, but Desert Daze is a breath of fresh air. A rare autonomous zone, unlike any contemporary festival setting I've been in." - Ben Chisholm (Chelsea Wolfe)

For more information on the new venue and all the big changes and improvements for this year's festival, visit desertdaze.org

King Khan presents: William S. Burroughs' 'Let Me Hang You'

ANNOUNCING:  LET ME HANG YOU WILLIAM S. BURROUGHS

SELECTIONS FROM NAKED LUNCHTO MUSICAL ACCOMPANIMENT FROM
KING KHAN,
BILL FRISELL, WAYNE HORVITZ AND MORE
ANNOUNCEMENT COMES VIA IN-DEPTH FEATURE
IN THE NEW YORK TIMES
LET ME HANG YOU DUE JULY 15, 2016VIA KHANNIBALISM/ERNEST JENNING RECORD CO.

Khannibalism/Ernest Jenning Record Co. are proud to announce  Let Me Hang You , an album centered around unheard recordings of legendary author and Beat Generation figurehead William S. Burroughs reading selections from his seminal novel  Naked Lunch.  Those recordings were then set to musical accompaniment from singer/songwriter/producer extraordinaire King Khan, experimental guitar wizard Bill Frisell, acclaimed pianist Wayne Horvitz, noted violist Eyvind Kang and many more, resulting in what can only be termed "psychedelic spoken word." The details of the album's inception came in a feature from  The New York Times , which can be read HERE and is on newsstands today.  Let Me Hang You  will see a release on July 15, 2016, and preorders are availableHEREMore news and music from the album are forthcoming.
Twenty years ago, William S. Burroughs was asked to record an audio version of his favorite parts ofNaked Lunch. Longtime associates and producers Hal Willner and James Grauerholz produced several sessions, and they recruited a team of world class musicians to help. Famed for their  Naked City  involvement, Bill Frisell and Wayne Horvitz contributed their genius, as well as Eyvind Kang, just to name a few. The recordings were then abandoned and collecting dust on a musty shelf, as forgotten as a piece of rancid ectoplasm on a peepshow floor.
In 2015, Hal Willner decided to reopen this unfinished masterpiece and asked help from King Khan (a musician that he and Lou Reed admired and became fast friends with). Hal sent Khan all of the recordings and asked him to add his gris gris to this extremely perverted gumbo... and history was made and the scum began to rise!
King Khan recruited M Lamar, the creator of the "Negrogothic" movement and the identical twin brother of transgender actress Laverne Cox ( Orange is the New Black ), and The Frowning Clouds, a band of young Australian boys who have mastered the sixties garage punk sound -- and that perhaps WSB would have also enjoyed for other purposes a long time ago.
Let Me Hang You is a collection of depraved genius straight from the godfather of punk's very own mouth. If chills and thrills are what you seek, then look no further -- here is the bible of freakdom, recited by the pope of the underground... Now, pull the chair from underneath you and see what happens!

"The most reliably great and sexually charged duo in blues- rock thrive onstage, stalking each other in a heady whirl of guttural screams and sharp cheekbones."  -  The New York Times
Ahead of the June 3rd release of their sixth full-length album,  Ash & Ice The Kills(Jamie Hince and Alison Mosshart) are pleased to share the video for 'Siberian Nights'. The third song to be heard from the forthcoming album, 'Siberian Nights' was written by Hince, during a solo journey on the infamous Trans-Siberian Express. Directed by Giovanni Ribisi, the video reflects Hince's "icy, paranoid" vision for the song. Listen to the song on Spotify HERE
Says Ribisi:"I've always looked at videos from a cultural perspective. Whether it's about a single, cultural event or some facet of the band. Over the course of making this video, what was there evolved into being something more abstract. However, during its early conception, I was enamored with a John Houston film called The Misfits. Ernst Haas was there during the making of it, taking photographs. His pictures were some of the many references for the video.
The Kills have always been one of my favorite bands. Their music is undeniable. It was a pleasure and a privilege for me to work on this."

They also stopped by KCRW recently, performing a special session in front of a live audience at Apogee Studio. Listen to the fiery session HERE.

The Dead Ships to Release CITYCIDE on June 24 via Nevado Music

The Dead Ships to Release CITYCIDE on June 24 via Nevado MusicShare New Single "First Mistakes" with CraveSummer Festival Shows Announced photo credit: Zane Roessell “Sounds like The Strokes if they’d reinvented themselves as a folk punk band.” - Entertainment Weekly "Righteous pure rock" - MTV “Their tuneful charisma separates them from the legions of garage-rock imitators” - LA Times  “The lovechild between Alabama Shakes and the Black Keys" - CMJ Stream: "First Mistakes" via Crave or SoundCloudWatch: "Seance" official video via Culture Collide or YouTube Stream: "Company Line" via Consequence Of Sound or SoundCloud The Dead Ships will release their debut full-length LP CITYCIDE in North America on June 24 viaNevado Music. The album is available to pre-order digitally via  iTunes CITYCIDE follows up their critically acclaimed EP 1 and will include singles "Company Line" as well as  "Big Quiet"   which spent five weeks at number one on KROQ's Local's Only. This week, the band shared their new single, “First Mistakes” with  Crave  and the track is streaming now to share via  Soundcloud The Dead Ships have also announce several tour dates in Californina opening for The Cult and festival shows including performances at Make Music Pasadena, Chicago's Taste of Randolph Festival and Milwaukee's Summerfest. A lot has happened for The Dead Ships in the short time that they’ve been together. Within a couple of months after singer/guitarist Devin McCluskey and drummer Chris Spindelilus started jamming in the latter’s apartment, the soulful garage rock duo were playing sold out shows at The Echo in their native Los Angeles (opening for King Khan) and at San Francisco’s Bottom Of The Hill. They have quickly become one of the most talked about live shows in Los Angeles. Just recently, they were hand-picked Paul Tollett of Goldenvoice to perform at Coachella 2016, where they won over the crowd with their punchy hooks and wiry on-stage energy. BuzzBands LA exclaimed, "It is so nice to see you on a stage big enough for your sound."  Grimy Goods  named The Dead Ships a "Must See" band at Coachella and said, "This could be the year The Dead Ships look back on and see as a major turning point in their careers. That makes their performance on the Coachella stage all the more important. Past performances have us believing they’ll more than live up to the pressure.” Now, it’s time for the world to really get to know The Dead Ships as they look forward to the release ofCITYCIDEProduced by Broken Social Scene’s Brendan Canning (he also adds some sweet, sweet guitar playing throughout the LP), the now-trio with Alex Moore on bass put together a fiery collection of songs that showcase McCluskey’s engaging yowl and an unrelenting drive that refuses to let up on the gas pedal until the last notes of album closer “Tomorrow’s Crashes” fade away. For all its dynamism and momentum, once you start digging into CITYCIDE, you’ll start to taste the bittersweet tang of McCluskey’s vision for this album. For example, the title of this LP began as a reference to the sad fact that when people choose the Golden Gate Bridge as the location to take their own lives, they do so facing the city that they’re leaving behind. “It seemed like a sort of statement,” McCluskey says. “One last rebellion.” As McCluskey started writing a song inspired by that, it evolved into a full suite of songs about the alienation that folks living in big cities like Los Angeles or McCluskey’s former hometown of Chicago can feel, even as they’re surrounded by thousands of other people. On CITYCIDE that takes many forms like his frustration with people that give up on their dreams to make a buck (“Company Line”) or the feeling that the walls of your home are more oppressive than welcoming (“Floorboards”). Many of the songs poured out of McCluskey in the wake of his best friend’s suicide. Using his art to process his grief and confusion at losing the closest person in his life helped pour some added depth of feeling into the songs. You can get by just rocking out to them, but once you let them sink in deeper, they’ll quickly become a part of you too.And if the music - a raw power mix of finely tuned dynamics with the unadorned grind of vintage Nuggets-style psych rock - isn’t enough to let you know that this isn’t a sorrowful album but rather a celebration of McCluskey’s friend’s life and the simple act of carrying on even in our toughest times, just spend some time with "First Mistakes." Through the thick cloud of jangly power-pop chords, the message of the chorus bursts out brightly: “It was good to be alive!” The Dead Ships Tour Dates 06.03 - Anaheim, CA @ Grove of Anaheim w / The Cult

Cymande To Begin First US Tour Since 1973 Next Month

BRITISH FUNK PIONEERS CYMANDE TO TOUR U.S.FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE 1973
Bonnaroo,  SummerStage Central Park and D.C. Jazz Festival All Stops On Their U.S. Tour   May 24, 2016 – Cymande, the British-based funk music pioneers, emerged as innovators of the funk music scene during the early 1970s. Influenced by their Caribbean heritage, the band combined reggae and Rastafarian rhythms with funk, soul, R&B, jazz and rock to create a new and exciting sound which captivated audiences throughout the United Kingdom, United States, Europe and the continent of Africa.  The music of Cymande conveyed a true spirit of “togetherness”. This is reflected in the band’s emblem which incorporated a dove with the head of a Rastaman and symbolized peace and love. They made history in 1973 by becoming the first British-based band to perform at the Apollo Theater in Harlem, New York.  Cymande’s legacy stands strong - they are one of the most sampled black British bands of all time.Cymande's music heavily influenced the Rare Groove/Deep House scene of the 1980’s and sampling by artists such as De La SoulWu-Tang Clan, and The Fugees kept their music relevant. The Guardian (UK) called them the “unsung, heroes of the black British music scene.” They defined their sound as “NYAH-ROCK” based on the fusion of Rastafarian rhythms with other musical styles, R&B, Soul, Jazz. Cymande founder members, Patrick Patterson and Steve Scipio, reunited in 2011 with original members Sam Kelly, Mike Rose, Pablo Gonzales and Derrick Gibbs to record a new album, A Simple Act of Faith, under the guidance of their original producer, John Schroeder.  After several successful European tours, the band has finally scheduled their first U.S. tour in over four decades.“We are looking forward with great anticipation to Cymande’s first tour of the United States in 40 years,” Steve Scipio remarked.  “Our musical journey has taken us many places but America will always have a special place in our hearts because it was there, way back in the 70s, that the distinctive sound of Cymande’s music found its deepest and most sustained recognition and acceptance,” "In 1973 we had the privilege of undertaking our first tour of the United States of America. During that tour we appeared at some amazing venues including the Spectrum in Philadelphia, Rutgers University,……and what for us stands out as an enormous privilege in playing at the iconic Apollo theatre in a residency for one week alongside some iconic names in music,” added Patrick Patterson. Formed in 1971 by Patrick Patterson (guitar, vocals) and Steve Scipio (bass, vocals). The core members of the band comprised them along with: Sam Kelly (drums), Mike Rose (sax, flute, percussion), Pablo Gonsales (percussion, vocals) and Derrick Gibbs (alto sax). They were later joined by Ray King and Joey Dee (vocals) as well as Peter Serreo and Desmond Atwell (sax). In 1971 the group met and began to work with record producer John Schroeder, and with his guidance, Cymande recorded their debut album called simply CymandeCymande’s first album was released in the UK on the Alaska Record Label in 1972 and later in the same year, was released in the USA under Janus Records, a division of Chess Records. From that album, the group released two singles “The Message” followed by “Bra.”   “The Message” ignited a wave of interest and generated a large following of fans in the U.K and the U.S.A. and reached #22 on the Billboard R&B chart. The Group began touring across America with the likes of R&B soul music super star Al Green and later went on to tour with Jerry ButlerPatti La Belle, Billy PrestonRamsey LewisEdwin Starr and Albert King. The Band’s debut album became the fastest selling album on the Janus record label. Cymande went on to record two further albums with producer John Schroeder, Second Time Round (1973) and Promised Heights(1974). Late in 1974 Jimmy Lindsay replaced Joey Dee on lead vocals when Joey left to pursue a solo career. Cymande stopped performing in 1975. Cymande released a brand new critically acclaimed album in 2015: A Simple Act of Faith which was recorded with their original producer, John Schroeder.
All four of the band's albums are available again for sale in the U.S. digitally and on CD through Alliance.  A Simple Act of Faith is also available on Vinyl.  Visit: http://www.deepdiscount.com/deep-cymande-sale/b229724?utm_source=Press-Release-Special&utm_medium=Press-Release&utm_campaign=DDMAY2016&utm_content=CymandeMay2016 The band are now planning a series of worldwide live performances and festival appearances throughout what looks to be, a very exciting 2016. Cymande U.S. Summer Tour DatesJune 4th            Fonda Theatre                                     Los Angeles, CAJune 5th -         Regency Ballroom                               San Francisco, CAJune 11th          SummerStage Central Park                 New York, NYJune 12th          Bonnaroo Festival                               Manchester, TNJune 14th          Brooklyn Bowl                                   Brooklyn, NYJune 15th          D.C. Think a savage hybrid of Modest Mouse and Jack White.” Listen/share the song here: https://BoS.lnk.to/BodiesVideo.
Pandora is also exclusively streaming By Default in full now. Listen here:http://pdora.co/ByDefault.
Produced by Gil Norton (Pixies, Foo Fighters, Patti Smith) and recorded at Rockfield Studios, By Default finds the band—Emma Richardson (bass, vocals), Russell Marsden (guitar, vocals) and Matt Hayward (drums)—following up on their acclaimed 2014 release, Himalayan, by making a conscious decision to take a step back from their relentless world-wide touring schedule, having never spent more than a month off the road in the last two years. “We went back to square one,” says Hayward. In the church—between visits from the vicar, bringing tea and biscuits on his trolley—they found the new songs in hours of woodshedding on ratty old practice amps. “It’s definitely a new era,” says Marsden. “The first three records were like a trilogy, a piece of work in of themselves. We wanted to do those things, and we did them all. We took a breath, took a look at what we’d done, and started from scratch again.”[image error]Photo credit: Andy Cotterill  BY DEFAULT  TRACKLIST1.  The Fat White Family have unveiled the stunning video to their forthcoming single, Tinfoil Deathstar, the second single released via their own Without Consent label, and taken from the album, Songs For Our Mothers, which was released in January of this year. The single will be available this Friday, May 27th. The video was directed by acclaimed Canadian film and TV director Chris Grismer, who has previously directed videos for the likes of Arcade Fire, Broken Social Scene and Death From Above 1979. In other news, the band will be performing at several festivals across the UK and Europe this summer, and making their first trip to Australia. Additionally, the Black Lips have been added as main support to their show at the Brixton Academy in London on September 17th. Their biggest UK show to date, and a short hop across the Stockwell Road from The Queens Head pub, where the band kicked things off back in 2012 with their legendary Slide-In nights, Tickets for the show are available here. Tickets for the show are available here. Talking about their return to Brixton, the band said:
It is with joyous remorse we would like to announce a very special performance at Brixton Academy September 17th, for sweet mother Brixton is on the road to well dressed irrelevance, just another open casket in a city bent on deathly formalities. Nostalgia is no substitute for community and dialogue; that being said, if we cannot prove a good example, let us be the sad reminder.WE SHALL ALL BE CLEANSED. Live Shows This Summer:

"A truly bracing performance." The Independent “A powerful display of rock 'n roll unparalleled anywhere else in the capital.” Gigwise “A raucous display of real, unique music that is a breath of fresh air…”  Wordpress "Their live shows are challenging, saliva-spewing affairs that threaten to ride off the rails at the drop of a trouser, an experience not for the faint of heart but beloved by their passionate, similarly disaffected fans. Village Voice "The best kind of nasty." Pancakes & Whiskey “We know we’re in good hands and for just one banging, mind blowing joyous hour, we enter their wild world with a show that unapologetically sets the bar for 2016.” Oxford Mail
“Studiously crafted and meticulously executed from start to finish, if any doubts remained as to whether Fat White Family were the most important rock and roll band of their generation, this should put a lid on it once and for all. For Songs for Our Mothers is of a rare breed of record that's both of its time yet timeless in nature.. “ Drowned In Sound
"....disturbingly wonderful."  Relix
