Band of Skulls' By Default out TODAY

BAND OF SKULLS’ BY DEFAULT OUT TODAY ON BMG
NORTH AMERICAN TOUR CONFIRMED
[image error]Photo credit: Andy Cotterill
By Default , the latest album from U.K. trio Band of Skulls, is out today via BMG. The new music is receiving early critical acclaim both stateside and abroad: “Band of Skulls rip and roar, the song a wily mix of clashing guitars, vocals that both rocket high and dip low, and a fierce chorus that is the sonic equivalent of being stared down by some imposing authority. Think a savage hybrid of Modest Mouseand Jack White.”—Consequence of Sound “…each song packs a punch…they've always had a certain swagger in their music but here you can really feel an authority and confidence…”—The Independent
“I hear a new attitude behind it…shows them sharpening their sound.”—KCRW “A crisp return.”—Clash
To celebrate the release, Band of Skulls has confirmed North American dates this fall. The tour will kick off September 6 at Boston’s Royale and will make stops at Chicago’s Metro, San Francisco’s The Fillmore, Los Angeles’ Wiltern and New York City’s Terminal 5 among many others. In addition, New York area fans will have a chance to catch Band of Skulls ahead of the fall tour at a very special acoustic performance and signing on Sunday, June 19 at Rough Trade in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Fans will receive two wristbands to the show by purchasing By Default at Rough Trade starting at 11a.m. today:http://www.roughtrade.com/events/2016/6/2289. Produced by Gil Norton (Pixies, Foo Fighters, Patti Smith) and recorded at Rockfield Studios, By Default finds the band—Emma Richardson (bass, vocals), Russell Marsden (guitar, vocals) and Matt Hayward (drums)—following up on their acclaimed 2014 release, Himalayan, by making a conscious decision to take a step back from their relentless world-wide touring schedule, having never spent more than a month off the road in the last two years. “We went back to square one,” says Hayward. In the church—between visits from the vicar, bringing tea and biscuits on his trolley—they found the new songs in hours of woodshedding on ratty old practice amps. “It’s definitely a new era,” says Marsden. “The first three records were like a trilogy, a piece of work in of themselves. We wanted to do those things, and we did them all. We took a breath, took a look at what we’d done, and started from scratch again.” Listen to the lead single “Bodies” here: https://BoS.lnk.to/BodiesVideo.[image error] BAND OF SKULLS LIVESeptember 6—Boston, MA—RoyaleSeptember 7—Montreal, QC—Corona TheatreSeptember 8—Toronto, ON—The Opera HouseSeptember 9—Columbus, OH—Skully’s Music DinerSeptember 10—Chicago, IL—MetroSeptember 11—Minneapolis, MN—Fine Line Music CaféSeptember 13—Denver, CO—Gothic TheatreSeptember 14—Salt Lake City, UT—Urban LoungeSeptember 15-18—Victoria, BC—RifflandiaSeptember 16—Vancouver, BC—The Vogue TheatreSeptember 18—Seattle, WA—The ShowboxSeptember 19—Portland, OR—Revolution HallSeptember 21—San Francisco, CA—FillmoreSeptember 23—Los Angeles, CA—WilternSeptember 23-25—Las Vegas, NV—Life is BeautifulSeptember 24—Solana Beach, CA—Belly UpSeptember 26—Tucson, AZ—Rialto TheatreSeptember 28—Austin, TX—Antone’sSeptember 29—Dallas, TX—TreesSeptember 30—Memphis, TN—Minglewood HallOctober 1—Nashville, TN—Exit/InOctober 2—Atlanta, GA—Terminal WestOctober 3—Durham, NC—Motorco Music HallOctober 4—Washington DC—Black CatOctober 6—New York, NY—Terminal 5October 7—Philadelphia, PA—Union Transfer   Pre-Order By Default Now:iTunes: http://smarturl.it/ByDefaultITAmazon CD: http://smarturl.it/ByDefaultCDAmazon Vinyl: http://smarturl.it/ByDefaultLP http://www.bandofskulls.com/

BAT FOR LASHES Releases Video For "Sunday Love"

Releases "Sunday Love" Video - PRESS HERE To Watch The Bride  out July 1st via Parlophone/Warner Bros Records Bat For Lashes - aka multi-instrumentalist and visual artist Natasha Khan - has released the visually striking and heartfelt clip for new single "Sunday Love," off of her upcoming album, T he Bride  (out July 1, 2016 via Parlophone/Warner Bros Records).  PRESS HERE  to watch. This new video continues to expand on The Bride's chilling story, which chronicles a woman whose fiancé is killed in a crash on the way to the church for their wedding. Shot in the Californian desert at night, the film - created and conceived by Khan and co-directed by John DeMenil - shows The Bride frantically searching for her lost love, only to end up devastated and alone.

Written as the soundtrack with a feature length film in mind,  The Bride  was created and produced by Natasha Khan alongside a host of long-time collaborators and friends including Simone Felice, Dan Carey, Head and Ben Christophers. During its conception, Khan wrote and directed a short film entitled I Do, making its debut at this year's Tribeca Film Festival in NYC in April, the themes of which point to the new album. The Bride was created over the course of 18 months in London, Los Angeles, and Brighton. Finally, last Autumn, Natasha headed to the mountains of Woodstock, NY, where she built a studio into the ground floor of a big old house and lived there for two months, finishing the record with co-producer Simone Felice (Lumineers, Felice Bros). The album was mixed by Head in London and mastered at Metropolis Studios.

Bat For Lashes is set to perform The Bride in its entirety to a sold out crowd at Saint Ann & The Holy Trinity in New York on June 1st. This will conclude her exclusive series of intimate church performances, which have garnered rave reviews - including five stars from  The Guardian . See full routing below.

PRESS HERE  to watch "In God's House," the first clip off of the record, conceived by Natasha Khan and co-directed by John De Menil. PRESS HERE  to read what Khan tells Pitchfork about  The Bride .

LAURA MVULA DEBUTS NEW SONG “SHOW ME LOVE”

LAURA MVULA DEBUTS NEW SONG “SHOW ME LOVE”

SOPHOMORE ALBUM THE DREAMING ROOM
AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER  NOW THE DREAMING ROOM  OUT JUNE 17
(Columbia Records; New York, NY – May 27, 2016) Following the announcement of her sophomore album The Dreaming Room, Laura Mvula has unveiled brand new track “Show Me Love.” Serving as the cornerstone of The Dreaming Room, “Show Me Love” is a hymn-like ballad that swells to mighty proportions.  The heartfelt track speaks of missing a lover’s touch – listen to the song HERE.

The Dreaming Room, which follows her universally adored debut album Sing To The Moon, is officially available for preorder today HERE ahead of its release on June 17. Fans who pre-order the album will receive an instant download of “Show Me Love” along with previously released tracks “Phenomenal Woman,” “Overcome” and “People.”

The Dreaming Room is an expansion on what was already a captivating sound. The heavenly layers of voices, the unexpected complex diversions and the celestial grandeur are still all there but with the addition of buzzy analogue synths and electric guitar lines. This is Laura in a new found light - still reflecting her distinctive signature sound but showing the progression of an artist who has come into her own.

The music that makes up The Dreaming Room is lively and ferocious - from the Afro-disco “Overcome”, packed with upbeat sounds and intricate harmonies layered beneath stunning tribal beats, to the captivating “Kiss My Feet”- a mass of disjointed beats and heartfelt lyrics, to the epic and bold “People”, inspired by the crisis of black identity in the west.

Amidst the struggle, Laura believes that she has written “A beast of an album” in The Dreaming Room.  “I never thought I’d be able to.  This is the hardest I’ve worked on anything.  I’ve grown up - by taking the music more seriously, I take myself less so.  When I listen to this music I feel whole.  I feel so at home in myself.  I feel comfortable”.

Taking the writing of this album out of the studio and in to the garden shed of her producer and musical director Troy Miller, Laura also recruited The London Sympathy Orchestra, Wretch 32 (People) and guitar giants Nile Rodgers and Miles Davis collaborator John Scofield (Overcome) to help create the album.

The Dreaming Room will be released June 17 via Columbia Records.

Philadelphia alt rock/shoegaze phenoms NOTHING have premiered a new animated music video for the track "A.C.D. (Abscessive Compulsive Disorder)" via The Independent. The video is a dark homage to Dire Straits' classic "Money For Nothing" clip. Nothing guitarist/vocalist Domenic Palermo elaborates:
"I've been obsessing over some dark web computer animated stuff lately. Much of this is your run of the mill, awful footage that makes you remember how frail our human bodies are, but some are these odd, home-made computer animations doing strange things that give you an uneasy feeling, but also one of pure evil and chaos. I wanted to recreate that mixed with a violent/sad version of Dire Straits, ""Money For Nothing" video."
