BILLIE MARTEN UNVEILS “LA LUNE”
BILLIE MARTEN UNVEILS “LA LUNE”
Billie Marten is pleased to unveil the B-side to recent single “Milk & Honey.” Watch the video for “La Lune” here:
http://smarturl.it/LaLuneVideo
.
Accompanied by childhood footage compiled by Billie herself, the sublime “La Lune” is “a nostalgic nod to a time last summer where I really badly sunburnt my face, but also about instinctive feelings of being home, without the ‘heat’ of everything.”
Hailing from Ripon in North Yorkshire she has music in her blood, growing up listening to John Martyn, Laura Marling, David Bowie, Portishead and Loudon Wainwright, whom she saw in concert as a kid. At the age of eight, given a small, pink guitar and taught four chords by her dad, she wrote her first ‘proper’ song. Having gained widespread acclaim for an emotive lyricism that belies her tender years, Billie Marten appeared on the BBC’s Sound of 2016 long list earlier this year, in addition to having made her debut US performances at this year’s SXSW.
“La Lune” is available via Columbia Records in the US everywhere today, includingiTunes and Spotify.

[image error]As the 10th anniversary of InFiné records approaches, in their grand tradition of presenting a wide-spectrum of performers, nomadic projects, and bold collaborations are proud to deliver a new masterpiece in its discography – Statea by Murcof x Vanessa Wagner. The title of the album is a reference in old Italian to scales and a nod to the perfect balance between two units of measurement; in this case the artists’ simpatico creative working relationship.
Appearing unusual at first, this collaboration between Mexican ambient figurehead Fernando Corona (better known as Murcof) and multi-award winning French classical pianist Vanessa Wagner surrenders a sublime logic. Both classically trained, their career paths took different trajectories, but converged toward the same enthusiasm when it came to minimalism. The project was initiated in 2010 at InFiné´s own creative retreat – the Workshop InFiné festival in Normandoux, next to Poitiers in France. Six years on from that initial meeting, and many captivating performances later, they’ve crafted a unique studio album that captures the essence of their concert.
This edit of their original interpretation of a classic Arvo Pärt piece perfectly mirrors the artists´ mutual search for unexplored cosmic soundscapes, while professing loyalty to the composer’s original writing. Statea showcases a wide-ranging conception of minimalism including compositions by Philip Glass, Ligeti, John Cage, Erik Satie and Aphex Twin.

ESMÉ PATTERSON Premieres "No River" Music Video via NPR's First Watch!
ESMÉ PATTERSON PREMIERES "NO RIVER" MUSIC VIDEO VIA NPR'S FIRST WATCHNew Album We Were Wild out NOW via Grand Jury
(Credit: Daniel Topete)Praise for Esmé Patterson: "Her voice is wiry and candid, backed by arrangements that roll along the folk-country borderline." - New York Times
"a singer with roots in folk music and a new album that stretches into the world of gritty rock." - NPR Music "...'Wantin Ain't Gettin,' a barside ballad that serves as the epitome of [Patterson's] deeply personal return. The ripped-from-her-diary tune revisits her Americana roots, reflecting on a love affair's sour demise amid solemn acoustics and a swaying, downtempo twang." - Entertainment Weekly
"It's pop with a smidge of punk. Pop with claws." - Noisey
"subtly charming LP" - Rolling Stone (3.5/5 stars) "We Were Wild is wildly good." - PopMatters (8/10 stars)
Esmé Patterson released her gorgeous new album We Were Wild last week, and today she shares a stunning visual for "No River." The song itself - which debuted as Zane Lowe's "World Record" on Beats 1 - was reviewed last week in The New York Times' Playlist, saying "A 1960s-soul backbeat, a laconic electric rhythm guitar, some pinging keyboard tones and backup voices going 'ooh ooh are all Esmé Patterson needs in 'No River..." PRESS HERE to watch the music video for "No River" now, exclusively via NPR's First Watch.
Patterson is bringing songs from We Were Wild out on the road this Summer, kicking things off this weekend. See below to find a show near you and PRESS HERE to get tickets.PRESS HERE to watch her rollicking, folky-yet-fiery set at NonComm 2016 to get a taste of what to expect from one of her live shows.
Esmé Patterson's decadal musical career sprang from Colorado's mountains when she co-founded Denver's beloved indie-folk ensemble Paper Bird. After four acclaimed albums and perpetual touring, Patterson set a new course. In 2012, she wove local talents, includingNathaniel Rateliff, into her first powerful, ethereal solo release All Princes, I. Her 2014 release, Woman to Woman, rounded out previously one-dimensional females from popular songs - reimagining tracks from Dolly Parton's "Jolene" to The Beatles' "Eleanor Rigby" - to the praise of The New York Times, The Guardian and others. "Dearly Departed," her hit collaboration with Shakey Graves led to millions of streams, sold out shows nationwide, as well as performances on Conan and The Late Show With David Letterman.
Across We Were Wild,Patterson's delicate voice, wry humor, poignant storytelling, and impassioned delivery entwine with fuzzed-out guitars, deep-in-pocket percussion, hints of roots-y country, and a swirling psychedelic hum. El Perro Del Mar to release new album ‘KoKoro' > watch the video for 'Breadandbutter' here

to release first new album in 5 years 'KoKoro'
out 16th September 2016 via Control Group
watch the new video 'BreadandButter' here:
https://youtu.be/u0Etebg4kewSweden’s El Perro Del Mar (née Sarah Assbring) has announced details of her first new album in five years, ‘KoKoro,’ and premiered the alternate Karaoke music video for the first single “Breadandbutter,” directed by Linda Pedersen, Nicole Walker and El Perro Del Mar, and featuring animation and special effects by Linda Pederson. ‘KoKoro’ - now available for pre-order here with an instant-download of “Breadandbutter” - will be released September 16, 2016 via The Control Group.
Written and produced by El Perro Del Mar & Jacob Haage, the 10 original songs of ‘KoKoro’ are her most ambitious and musically adventurous to date, yet no less emotionally direct, covering themes that speak to both big and small matters of the heart. With the state of the planet - musically, politically, environmentally - on her mind since the birth of her son, Assbring sees ‘KoKoro’ as not only an album but also as an aesthetic and political movement of sorts. She explains: “‘KoKoro’ is about the vulnerability and the strength of the heart. What the heart is exposed to, both internally and externally. The heart cannot be protected. Not from pain, not from happiness. Not from love, not from corruption. I've been thinking a lot about issues such as ‘who am I if the social norms, expectations and pressures I carry were to be stripped away? Hard? Soft? Or maybe both? In a time that seems to go backwards humanistically and morally, seeking to put up walls rather than tearing them down, I realized I wanted to make a borderless album that belongs nowhere but has a universal voice and a universal heart.”
With soundscapes that echo of Thailand, Sumatra, India, Ethiopia, and China, the orchestration of ‘KoKoro’ is unlike any of El Perro Del Mar’s previous releases, a direction only hinted briefly on the ‘Pale Fire’ LP highlight “I Was A Boy.” It features the Chinese string instrument Guzheng, the Japanese Shakuhachi flute, various other Asian flutes, Arabic strings, Dulcimer, and rhythms influenced by Ethiopian music. Assbring explained, “One of my absolute clearest aims was to distance myself from the kind of common Western sound of today” in an effort to “find a new way to write relevant pop music with references and influences that feel fresh.” ‘KoKoro’ was inspired by legendary singers like Pakistan’s great Sufi exponent Abida Parveen and Nahid Akhtar, India’s Asha Bhosle, Ethiopia’s Yeshimebet Dubale, Cambodia’s Sinn Sisamouth, and South Korea’s Kim Jung Mi, as well as Ethiopian musician Enimut Kindie, Javanese gamelan music, and Chinese guzheng music. The album was recorded with multi-instrumentalist Andreas Söderström, bassist Johan Berthling, drummer Mattias Bergqvist, who has collaborated with First Aid Kit, and wind multi-instrumentalist Per “Ruskträsk” Johansson, who has collaborated with Robyn, José González, among many others.
The first single “Breadandbutter” is about finding a means to communicate and find solidarity among people, while other songs on ‘KoKoro’ implore for self-reflection and self-improvement across friendships, relationships, and life at large in an effort to reach enlightenment. Capitalism’s arguably toxic effect on the human spirit is addressed on “Ding Sum,” where El Perro Del Mar sings, “Pics of girls and ads of boys / Hit you, hit you as you go / There's a notice for your heart / To want a bit of what they got (Gimme it, gimme all!) / Listen, you got robbed / But it’s not your fault.”
Last year, El Perro Del Mar reissued her self-titled, critically acclaimed debut album in celebration of its 10 year anniversary, earning praise from Pitchfork for “the way it stripped girl-group pop songs down to their barest essentials and used them to express immense inner sadness.” HBO’s ‘Girls’ featured its single “God Only Knows (You Gotta Give To Get)” in the closing credits of an episode in Season 4. More recently, El Perro Del Mar released covers of the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “Breaking The Girl,” which was recorded for her 2012 album ‘Pale Fire’ but not included, and Prince’s “I Would Die 4 U” in honor of what would have been the late legend’s 58th birthday. For the former, she partnered with Fred Armisen to direct its music video, who praised her “romantic and dreamy music” in an interview with Rolling Stone.

Listen to “You Don’t Get Me High Anymore” HERE !
Since the release of their 2014 album Voices, Phantogram have trekked across the globe playing live shows and festival dates, contributed features to everyone from A-Trak to Miley Cyrus and been sampled by Kanye West, The Game and A$AP Rocky, as well as releasing their debut BIG GRAMS LP with good friend and musical partner in crime, Big Boi of Outkast. The New York bred duo made writing stops at home and in Atlanta before picking back up in Los Angeles to record Three. Carter and Barthel shared duties on production and vocals, melding elements of rock, pop, hip-hop and electronic. The resulting sound leans darker and more psychedelic yet with some of the brightest and most introspective pop melodies they’ve delivered to date, truly making them genre-defying artists for the 21st century.
In support of their new album, Phantogram will be touring across the United States and Canada this fall, kicking off in Las Vegas on September 29th and winding their way across both coasts through November 5th. Tickets for select Phantogram dates will be bundled with a digital preorder of Three. See full tour itinerary below.

Nedelle Torrisi (Sufjan Stevens & Ariel Pink collaborator) shares new video, 'Cathartica'
Nedelle Torrisi'Advice from Paradise (Deluxe Edition)' out August 1stvia Tin Angel Records
Watch ‘Cathartica’ HERE
“A calm, soothing and masterly crafted track” – Wonderland
[image error] “Breezy elements of indie pop and slinky R&B.” – Noisey
“Smooth and synth-y grooves, Torrisi’s dreamy vocals feel like they’re born into darkness, then ascend into a buoyant light.” – Rookie
“Cryptacize co-founder Nedelle Torrisi is the connective thread between Sufjan Stevens and Ariel Pink.” – Stereogum
Nedelle Torrisi's last breakup was bad – “not throwing-clothes-out-of-a-window bad”, she laughs now, but gruelling enough to leave her feeling blue as a bruise alone in Los Angeles, wading alone through the fuselage wreckage of a four-year friendship and band. “I was frustrated at the thought of starting over again, because it also dissolved the band we were in. The silver lining was that I was alone, so didn't have to negotiate any musical decisions anymore.” A few months later, the Sufjan Stevens and Ariel Pink collaborator found herself with a batch of “unhinged, romantic, boy-crazy songs” that seeped romance from beneath every airy stroke of keyboard, lush 90s-R&B-throwback vocal and crisp drum machine clap. “I thought writing these sappy pop songs would somehow lift me out of that depression,” Nedelle remembers. Instead, the resulting album, ‘Advice from Paradise (Deluxe Edition)’, soon for re-release on Tin Angel Records, finds hope – revelling in the uncertainty, excitement and butterfly-flutter nerves of pulling yourself up from the ground and beginning again.
The daughter of a priest-turned-jazz drummer father and ex-nun turned pianist mum, Torrisi grew up in California steeped in music. She remembers singing for relatives as early as aged three, and trying to wriggle out of homework so she could listen to Whitney Houston. Music was “a given, not a choice” in her house, she recalls fondly – “you don't just take 5 piano lessons and quit. So I chose the violin and my brother chose the clarinet, and we both studied the instruments into our twenties.”
That devotion pays off on ‘Advice from Paradise (Deluxe Edition)’, a record with whip-smart musicality to match its infectious heartbreak. ‘Can't Wait’ sees wailing twin guitars fade to a slow jam saunter with shades of Toni Braxton, singing about longing for someone in unrelenting rain. ‘Double Horizon’ is a Beach House-ish harpsichord pop dream that Noisey called “sunshine-filled, poppy and blissful.” ‘Don't Play Dumb’ meanwhile is a tale of romantic game-playing set to gorgeous MIDI calypso synths and accompanied by a video that saw Nedelle cause trouble in a Target store – she and the clip's director, Travis Peterson, were actually kicked out of the supermarket twice while trying to film.
‘Advice from Paradise (Deluxe Edition)’ also features on backing vocals Domino baroque-pop favourite Julia Holter – someone Torrisi says is “a good reminder that listening to your heart and being yourself is always best. She doesn't compromise her values for shallow gains. As we all know the music industry is a slimy place, so I think this says a lot about her character.” She learnt too from cult acclaimed folk troubadour Sufjan Stevens, who since releasing Nedelle's old group, Cryptacize, on his Asthmatic Kitty label, has invited Torrisi to play in his backing band and sing on his latest album, ‘Carrie and Lowell’. “His work ethic is admirable, and as a band leader he's good at challenging everyone so they never become complacent.”
The album was recorded in two weeks with Haunted Graffiti member and former housemate Kenny Gilmore, with whom Nedelle “slept at the studio and worked all day until we became cross-eyed.” Then, disaster struck. “So, the album was missing in Russia for four months,” says Nedelle, incredibly. “The story is crazy, involving Russian friends, a nice taxi company, and a lot of luck, but we got it back!” It's a good thing they did – moving and warm, ‘Advice from Paradise (Deluxe Edition)’ is a sprawling pop paradise of its own, full of such insight into the trials and tribulations of the dating game, it came as no surprise to fans three years ago when Torrisi launched her own love advice column, now a video series on floodmagazine.com. “It's kept trucking, so I've just kept doing it,” says the singer. With a new album on the horizon after the re-release of ‘Advice from Paradise (Deluxe Edition)’.

BORIS premiere unreleased track from 10th anniversary Pink album deluxe reissueTour North America performing Pink in its entirety in July Hear & share "SOFUN" (Soundcloud)
Japanese trio Boris premiere an unreleased track from the 10th anniversary deluxe reissue of Pinktoday via NPR. Hear and share "SOFUN" HERE . (Direct Soundcloud).
Boris will launch a full North American headlining tour in July in which they will perform Pink in its entirety. The band's new Sargent House labelmates Earth will play all dates except two in Canada. Please see complete dates below.
Pitchfork previously announced the deluxe edition release with the premiere of "Are You Ready?"HERE. (Soundcloud).
Pink, the landmark 2006 album by Boris, which earned widespread critical praise -- including Pitchfork's Top 10 Albums of 2006 -- will be reissued in a deluxe edition this summer to commemorate the album's 10th anniversary.
The deluxe 3xLP box set and 2xCD features an entire album of previously unreleased tracks recorded during the Pink album sessions in 2004-2005. The bonus Forbidden Songs collects 9 tracks of the same hyperactive, accessible and aggressive caliber of the original album, available here for the first time, mixed (with additional editing and arrangement) in 2015 and mastered in January 2016. Like the original U.S. vinyl release, the Pink (Deluxe Edition) LP set has three longer edits of songs that were truncated on the original CD issue ("Farewell", "Pseudo-Bread" and "My Machine"). Otherwise, both the LP and CD versions have the same audio as the 2006 release. And, Pink (Deluxe Edition) also features the artwork of the original Japanese release, made by the band members themselves.
In 2006, Pink was Boris' 10th album and a major breakthrough that earned new fans outside of the underground metal community -- the track "Farewell" was even featured in Jim Jarmusch's classic filmThe Limits of Control. The album landed on countless "best of the year" lists from underground metal sites to mainstream rock magazines. And the praise was certainly well deserved for its more accessible sound and explorations into shoegaze and ambient structures alongside brutal noise, searing psychedelia and apocalyptic doom.
Pink succeeds at what most bands cannot do: swiftly changing styles from song to song, while always sounding distinctly like themselves. The seamless, explosive set of fan favorites from the classic longtime lineup of drummer/vocalist Atsuo, guitarist/vocalist Wata and bassist/guitarist/vocalist Takeshi still sounds as mindblowing as it did a decade ago. And, Forbidden Songs continues with the same unbridled creativity and ferocity. These songs aren't outliers, they're rather more like the director's cut version of the original album.
Boris is now in their 24th year as a band -- 20 years in the classic trio lineup -- and showing no signs of slowing down. They have always demolished expectations of what a band can do musically and aesthetically. And in looking back with Pink (Deluxe Edition), the band's trajectory as experimenters and innovators over subsequent releases becomes even clearer.
Pink (Deluxe Edition) will be available everywhere (excluding Japan) on July 8th on 3xLP box set, 2xCD and download via Sargent House. iTunes pre-orders include a free immediate download of "Are You Ready?" "There's a stoned, analog atmosphere hanging over everything, but there's a fire and toughness, too. [Mike] Brandon, like Charles Bradley and Sharon Jones before him, performs with a power and vigor that keeps him undeniable." - Pitchfork
"Captivating, (...) firmly rooted in the tradition of Sixties garage and gritty NYC punk." - Rolling Stone
"The Mystery Lights have been making a name for themselves as one of NYC's best garage rock bands, and cetainly as one of the best live shows." - Brooklyn Vegan
WATCH & SHARE: The Mystery Lights - "Follow Me Home"
"Truly trippy throwbacks to a filthier, more hallucinatory era, (...) “Follow Me Home” comes straight out of that garage tradition, all Hammond organs and straightforward, declining riffs." - NOISEYFresh off their highly praised first-ever European tour, The Mystery Lights are now less than two weeks away from the release of their debut album. The self-titled LP is coming out on Daptone Records’ new rock subsidiary, Wick Records, on June 24th.
Today, Pitchfork shared their love for the track "Follow Me Home," saying that "there's a stoned, analog atmosphere hanging over everything, but there's a fire and toughness, too. [Mike] Brandon, like Charles Bradley and Sharon Jones before him, performs with a power and vigor that keeps him undeniable."
The band will be throwing their record release show at Mercury Lounge in NYC on June 24th. Not long after, the traction will continue to build as they set off on a recently announced US tour, both on the east coast and west coast, which includes dates as direct support for Nights Beats.
Their “In The Studio with The Mystery Lights” video takes a behind-the-scenes look at what took place at Daptone's House of Soul Studio as the band worked to create Wick's inaugural release and what is now a record that deserves to be raved about.
About the band:
Mike Brandon and L.A. Solano have been in many different versions of The Mystery Lights under assorted monikers since their teens. In a heroic jump from the small town of Salinas, California to NYC, the band solidified its lineup to also include Alex Amini, Kevin Harris, and Noah Kohll.
The explosive live shows gradually became the stuff of legend, as the quintet won their following one fan at a time in dives from Brooklyn to the Bowery. Organically unfolding over the nights months and years, the Lights’ sound has evolved into a fuzz-fueled hopped-up 21st Century take on 60s garage pebbles, and artful 70s punk, that is all their own. 2016 finds these rock’n’roll knights embarking upon the next logical step - unleashing their own brand of kick out the jams on tour and in the studio.
When Daptone Records launched their Wick Records rock imprint, they wasted no time approaching Mystery Lights as their inaugural act. Hot on the heels of the "Too Many Girls"/"Too Tough To Bear" single, Wick officially rolls out the Mystery Lights’ debut LP, recorded at Daptone Records' House of Soul studio, on June 24.TOUR DATES6.18 - Coney Island, NY @ Burger Beach Bash NYC/MCU Park6.20 - Boston, MA @ Great Scott TI6.22 - Philadelphia, PA @ Kung Fu Necktie 6.24 - New York City, NY @ Mercury Lounge 6.26 - Washington, DC @ Black Cat
