BRONCHO - DOUBLE VANITY

BRONCHO - DOUBLE VANITYOUT TODAY ON DINE ALONE RECORDS  STREAM DOUBLE VANITY*
"Perfection refracted... The hooks are still there, buried under hairpin-bent notes and a blanket of reverb that would make anyone but the Jesus & Mary Chain blush." - SPIN
"Double Vanity is somewhat of a tonal shift from their last album-they've gotten a little smoother, a little slower, and a little sexier... ["Fantasy Boys"] sounds like the romantic final slow dance scene from a sexy late '80s movie." - The Fader
"You know a song is good when it makes you shiver a little and it's not just because the air con is on full blast." - Noisey
"[Evokes] the kind of crushes that make one sweat, melt, and starry-eyed all at once." -Consequence of Sound
"Equal parts psych and blues, 'Señora Borealis' pushes Broncho's sound to the apex, with washes of vocal effects and reverb coating every inch of the track." - AV Club
"A mesmerizing listen." - Harper's Bazaar

MORE ON BRONCHO:Blasted grassland, the thin ribbon line of the freeway unspooling beneath wheels, skies stretched wide between mountaintop. It is dream music, foggy, atmospheric, the melodies you hear while you gazing out through fingerprint smeared windows into a constantly moving, metamorphosing landscape....
It makes sense then, that BRONCHO was born out of out a film project, its initial incarnation sparked when founder Ryan Lindsey was asked to create music "to set to an early 80s punk film." "That's all I knew about it," he remembers, "they were looking for songs that touched this era. And songs kept coming to me and turned something on inside of me artistically." Lindsey found himself in the midst of prolific run of songs and he liked the idea "of starting out there and seeing where it could go."
What's evolved from those first tracks there has been a steady run of success, critical accolades and two full-length albums: 2011's Can't Get Past the Lips and 2014's Just Enough Hip to Be Woman. And beneath it all, the music has been constantly mutating and ceaselessly experimental. From that first inception as a soundtrack in 2010, BRONCHO has taken on a life of its own. The initial inspiration is still there, but now pushing far beyond the stiff confines of score. What began as an ode to ramshackle, high-energy early punk has become something deeper, weirder, and much more nuanced.  The undercurrent of early 1980s punk is still there, but The Ramones pogo has been replaced more often by a kind of Love and Rockets-inspired, honeyed, cotton-mouthed drift.
Double Vanity is Lindsey and bandmates Ben King, Nathan Price and Penny Pitchlynn steadily moving ahead, transforming the raw angst of the first record into a sound decidedly more layered and complex. Tracks like "New Karma" or "Two Step" riff off the later explorations of punk, culling up refracted images of John Hughes prom nights, love songs echoing from a boombox held high. "Jenny Loves Jenae" and "Speed Demon" strut with a 80s-meets-50s swagger, discord transformed into a jagged, frenetic pop. "Señora Borealis" is all bad boy sneer - sensual, moody, with a sly and predatory swagger.  "I Know You" is simultaneously infectious and brooding, somehow both exalting and heartsick.
The result is a record that veers gleefully from BRONCHO's roots, moving from graffiti sprayed backrooms into a sleeker, plusher sound, a place bright with the polished gleam of chrome and bleached white sunlight. Close your eyes and what you feel is the raw wound pulse of adolescence; what you see behind your lids is suburban shopping mall wastelands, glazed eyes, dead grass, lips glossed in bubblegum pink. There is the burst chest thump of teenage longing, the smell of hairspray and cigarettes. There is glow of neon and the glint of streetlight rolling across hood.
Double Vanity evokes a shared nostalgia for the past and for the unknown future, as BRONCHO takes a turn off the wide freeways and into a world of intimate, intricate - but always universal - emotion.

Shearwater’s animated lyric video for “Pale Kings” from Jet Plane and Oxbow

Watch: Shearwater’s animated lyric video for “Pale Kings” from Jet Plane and Oxbow
http://u.subpop.com/1PFuKDs
click image to playEuropean tour starts Saturday, June 11thShearwater has delivered an animated lyric video for “Pale Kings,” a highlight from Jet Plane and Oxbow, the band’s internationally acclaimed album. The new visual was directed by Matthew Watkins.

Watch here.

Shearwater’s previously announced European summer tour in support of Jet Plane and Oxbow kicks-off this Saturday, June 11th in Antwerp, BE at Bourla and ends July 2nd in Elsloo, NL at Conincx Pop Festival. Please find complete tour dates below.

Recently while on tour supporting Jet Plane and Oxbow, Shearwater stopped by The Onion’s offices in Chicago to film a session for The A.V. Club’s seventh season of music video series, ‘A.V. Undercover’.  In addition to their planned cover (which will air later this season), they surprised The A.V Club with a complete, spot-on performance of David Bowie’s 1979 album Lodger, which includes songs Bowie himself never attempted live.

The A.V. Club says of the performance, ‘Undercover’ veterans Shearwater came by the studio earlier this year to tackle a song from the main list—business as usual, right? But Jonathan Meiburg asked if we might want to film his band covering the entirety of David Bowie's Lodger, too. Why would we say no to that? So as a special pre-season bonus for ‘Undercover  2016,’ here's Shearwater covering Lodger from start to finish, along with an essay by Meiburg explaining his relationship to the classic record (see A.V. Club “Undercover” May 12th).”

Shearwater’s Jet Plane and Oxbow is available now on CD/ 2xLP/ DL [link here] and at an independent retailer near you.

What people are saying about Jet Plane and Oxbow:
“The big-sky rock of tracks like "Pale Kings" and "Glass Bones" are paired with the kind of lofty language that defined mid-'80s albums like U2’s The Unforgettable Fire and A Pagan Place by the Waterboys…They have made something spacious and expansive enough to feel conjured from the costly confines of a million-dollar studio like Abbey Road or Electric Lady. With Jet Plane and Oxbow, Shearwater achieve not only their grandest statement to date, buttheir most grounded as well.” -  Pitchfork

“Fussed-over sounds abound — one track finds room for both synthesizer and dulcimer — which helps render Meiburg's songs both unsettling and majestic. The terrific "Quiet Americans" checks many of the band's boxes right away, as the synthspeal through static, while Meiburg's vocals bark, swoop, soar and swoon in tune with the moment. From there, the palette expands and contracts to include booming, stadium-sized urgency ("A Long Time Away"); a persistently rumbling, exploratory epic worthy of Wilco ("Filaments"); and a ballad that sneaks in some of Meiburg's favorite themes ("Wildlife In America"). Of course, that big, elastic voice remains at the center of these songs, but so too does a mandate to fill the surrounding air with big, bold ideas.” [First Listen] -  NPR Music

"A defiant moody exploration of the magic and menace of technology." [4/5] -  MOJO

"Meiburg's finest album to date." [8/10] -  Uncut

“It's refreshing to hear them switch things up on this, their seventh full-length release, by writing more immediate pop songs without sacrificingtheir rich, thoughtfully placed instrumentation.” -  Rolling Stone

Jet Plane and Oxbow can’t be locked into a single place or time, instead patching together its own alternate past. They leave room for their glossy influences and the gritty present to communicate with each other, threading catchy hooks through more complex backgrounds. The prime example is “Quiet Americans”, a dark track that transforms relatively quickly into a comfortable earworm.”Consequence of Sound

“The sense of velocity and flight, paired with Meiburg's dramatic vocals, delivered with Bowie-like flair here, making Jet Plane and Oxbow a natural progression for Shearwater, and a nice departure from their typical offerings.”  -  EXCLAIM!

Jet Plane and Oxbow is a remarkably polished, alluring, and dignified accomplishment.” [8/10] -  PopMatters

"The band's punchiest and most populist work to date." [4/5] -  The Skinny

The Mystery Lights Share New Video via NOISEY

THE MYSTERY LIGHTS SHARE "FOLLOW ME HOME" VIDEO VIA NOISEY

ANNOUNCE TOUR DATES WITH NIGHT BEATS

DEBUT LP OUT JUNE 24TH ON WICK (DAPTONE RECORDS)
WATCH & SHARE: The Mystery Lights - "Follow Me Home""Truly trippy throwbacks to a filthier, more hallucinatory era, (...) “Follow Me Home” comes straight out of that garage tradition, all Hammond organs and straightforward, declining riffs." -NOISEY

LISTEN & SHARE: The Mystery Lights - "Follow Me Home"
" rumbles ahead and gleefully teeters on the brink of a full-blown psychedelic freakout. But Brandon's ragged, static-soaked vocals and the song's subtle pop undertones keep it firmly rooted in the tradition of Sixties garage and gritty NYC punk." - Rolling Stone

"The Mystery Lights have been making a name for themselves as one of NYC's best garage rock bands, and certainly as one of the best live shows." - Brooklyn VeganAs The Mystery Lights currently cruise through their first-ever European tour, they are now weeks away from their debut self-titled album, set to release on Daptone Records’ new rock subsidiary, Wick Records, on June 24th.

Fresh off their Euro tour, the band will be throwing their record release show at Mercury Lounge in NYC on June 24th. Not long after, the traction will continue to build as they set off on a recently announced US tour, both on the east coast and west coast, which includes dates as direct support for Nights Beats.

Their “In The Studio with The Mystery Lights” video takes a behind-the-scenes look at what took place at Daptone's House of Soul Studio as the band worked to create Wick's inaugural release and what is now a record that deserves to be raved about.

Next up is their first music video for their debut single, Follow Me Home, which Noiseypremiered today - a kitschy take on a group of peace-loving bohemian musicians unknowingly being followed by an undercover agent (played by Ricky Powell) who wants to seriously harsh their mellow. Vivid imagery of singing flowers courtesy of The Mystery Lights members is just one aspect of this video that will drench your screen in a sheath of supreme psych rock superiority.
About the band:
Mike Brandon and L.A. Solano have been in many different versions of The Mystery Lights under assorted monikers since their teens. In a heroic jump from the small town of Salinas, California to NYC, the band solidified its lineup to also include Alex AminiKevin Harris, and Noah Kohll.

The explosive live shows gradually became the stuff of legend, as the quintet won their following one fan at a time in dives from Brooklyn to the Bowery. Organically unfolding over the nights months and years, the Lights’ sound has evolved into a fuzz-fueled hopped-up 21st Century take on 60s garage pebbles, and artful 70s punk, that is all their own. 2016 finds these rock’n’roll knights embarking upon the next logical step - unleashing their own brand of kick out the jams on tour and in the studio.

When Daptone Records launched their Wick Records rock imprint, they wasted no time approaching Mystery Lights as their inaugural act.  Hot on the heels of the "Too Many Girls"/"Too Tough To Bear" single, Wick officially rolls out the Mystery Lights’ debut LP, recorded at Daptone Records' House of Soul studio, on June 24.  THE DEVIL MAKES THREE ANNOUNCEREDEMPTION & RUINOUT AUGUST 26TH ON NEW WEST RECORDS
Featuring Emmylou Harris, Tim O'Brien, Jerry Douglas, Darrell Scott & Duane Eddy
Fresh off a sold-out headlining show at Red Rocks Amphitheater, The Devil Makes Three is proud to announce their new album, Redemption & Ruin set for release  August 26th on New West Records. The album, alongside pre-sale tickets for the dates listed below, will be available digitally, on CD, and on vinyl. Click here to purchase. Today the band shares the first track off the forthcoming record, "Drunken Hearted Man" by Mississippi blues ghost Robert Johnson. "As the title suggests, the new album features songs with a dark, gospel tinge and tracks about vice and heartbreak," said the Wall Street Journal.
LISTEN TO "DRUNKEN HEARTED MAN" HERECLEARED TO POST

Redemption & Ruin is a concept project of 12 hand-picked songs that bring fans in on the repertoire and legacy that have inspired The Devil Makes Three from before they founded the band. Divided in to two sides, the subjects of "redemption" and "ruin" are explored through various works by Muddy Waters, Tampa Red, Townes Van Zandt, Tom Waits, Hank Williams, Kris Kristofferson and Willie Nelson to name a few and The Devil Makes Three's interpretations of these songs also feature an all-star cast of guest stars like Emmylou Harris, Tim O'Brien, Jerry Douglas, Darrell Scott and guitar great Duane Eddy. Pete, Cooper and Lucia's mutual love of these songs, their exploration of the human condition and the therapeutic keening of the blues melodies has been found throughout their albums of original material but here onRedemption & Ruin their bringing listeners directly to the source point of their inspiration. A very special Redemption & Ruin themed Pandora Mixtape will launch mid-next week. The mixtape is comprised not only of the original versions of the songs covered on Redemption and Ruin, but also the will shed light on some of the band's other influences and songwriting heroes.
The Devil Makes Three have been simplistically tagged as everything from punk to bluegrass to rockabilly, but one sweaty show will dispel and clarify; They know their tradition, but really what they do is throw down. In the bands nearly 15 years together they've played just about every well worn bar and theatre in America and have quietly built such a massive following that they now headline amphitheaters and festivals and sell thousands of tickets a night. They'll head back out on the road this fall in support of the new album with over 40 North American shows planned. Highlights include a return to the Wiltern in Los Angeles on January 6th and multiple night stints in Seattle, Portland, Santa Cruz and San Diego.

lives into deceptively sad, yet infectious punk rock.”
 - Noisey

Seattle, WA punks  WIMPS  are following up appearances at this year’s Sasquatch Music Festival andBridgetown Comedy Festival by releasing the Marcy Stone-Francois directed video for the song  “Old Guy”  off of their 2015 album  Suitcase . Join them as they embark on an adventurous evening of leaving the house that culminates in a dance-off between Rachel and her inner old-guy. Who will bust the most moves and receive the night life crown? Can people under 30 be trusted?  Watch and discover for yourself!
