"The most reliably great and sexually charged duo in blues- rock thrive onstage, stalking each other in a heady whirl of guttural screams and sharp cheekbones." - The New York Times
"Beyond their considerable swagger, the Kills are also some of the best in the business musically, from Mosshart's snarling vocals to Hince's exhilaratingly perverse take on blues guitar." - Entertainment Weekly
"On Ash & Ice, Hince and Mosshart...polish their edgy sound, built on his caustic riffs and her witchy wail. But the difference on this LP, the band's fifth, is all in the beats... there are new production sounds, paired with catchy guitar and vocal riffs." - Rolling Stone
Last week saw The Kills (Jamie Hince and Alison Mosshart) release their eagerly anticipated fifth full-length album, Ash & Ice . The band, in speaking to Entertainment Weekly in the lead up to the album's release, had this to say about the record they made:
Hince: I hope (people) can see that electric guitar music is the future! That it's not stuck in the past, or nostalgic. I hope it makes them want to dress up and start a guitar band. And join our gang.
Mosshart: The aim was to be open and we pushed ourselves to write in a way that could be understood and mean something to other people. Human topics and feelings - love, joy, pain, loss, confusion, and those moments of feeling wildly, wildly happy and inspired beyond any sense of reason. The classic stuff! It's an honest record.

VOLUME 3 OF SERGE GAINSBOURG
TRANSLATED COVER VERSIONS
DELIRIUM TREMENS
OUT JUNE 24, 2016
Photo credit: L.J.Spruyt / L.J.Spruyt PhotographyMick Harvey has released the video for “Don’t Say A Thing” featuring Xanthe Waite, his translation of Serge Gainsbourg’s “Ne Dis Rien.”
The track is taken from the forthcoming album, Delirium Tremens , out on June 24, 2016.
Watch the video, filmed and directed by Lyndelle-Jayne Spruyt, HERE .
Delirium Tremens is the third volume of Mick Harvey’s Serge Gainbourg translations and follows the recent reissue of the first two volumes - Intoxicated Man and Pink Elephants - as a double album in 2014. Following the reissue, Harvey began playing select shows in Australia and Europe (including shows at Primavera and London’s Union Chapel) and the enjoyment factor was so high, it led inevitably to speculative discussions as to whether it was time to resume and expand the project.
The intervening years have, of course, been full of activity and dozens of releases including four solo albums and several albums as a member of Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds and in collaboration with PJ Harvey. So what led to the rekindling of interest in the songs of Serge?
Delirium Tremens brings us another wide cross-section of Gainsbourg material. From 1976’s “The Man With The Cabbage Head” (L’homme à Tête De Chou) all the way back to early songs such as “Deadly Tedium” (Ce Mortel Ennui) and “Coffee Colour” (Couleur Cafe) from the late 50s and early 60s. There is even a version of “SS C'est Bon” (Est-ce Est-ce Si Bon), from Gainsbourg’s controversial album Rock Around The Bunker, an album drenched in black humor and bad taste, coming as it does from a French man with Jewish ancestry.
In addition, Harvey presents a selection of five songs from the TV special “Anna” (starring Anna Karina) – including “Don't Say A Thing” (Ne Dis Rien) - with the female parts here executed with enormous charm by Xanthe Waite who has been joining Harvey on his recent shows. The album is rounded out by a beautiful rendering of the late period Jane Birkin duet “The Decadance” (La Décadanse) with Harvey joined on vocals by his wife Katy Beale.
Work began in late 2015 on what will be Volumes 3 and 4. Recording in Melbourne with his Antipodean-based core live band, 10 songs were tracked at Birdland Studios. The project then relocated to Berlin where a further nine songs were recorded with Toby Dammit (The Stooges, The Residents) and Bertrand Burgalat (of French label Tricatel) who was the string arranger on the first two volumes.
The resultant recordings served to whet Harvey’s appetite for more and almost immediately work continued back in Melbourne in order to have enough material to fill two new volumes. Along with Melbourne based musicians J.P.Shilo, Glenn Lewis and Hugo Cran, Harvey has enlisted a half dozen female singers to help complete Volume 4 which will be released as Intoxicated Women later in 2016.

Uncut – It’s a confident musician who messes with the legacy of a cultish iconoclast, but Harvey has serious form and so these records sound confident and casually eloquent…
Record Collector - …the translations are masterful, retaining Serge’s rhyme schemes and meter without losing any of the lyrics’ meaning.
The Quietus – As an Anglophonic entry point - which was the initial intention - this re-release is the perfect preface to the stunning oeuvre of the sloshed genius.
Popmatters – orchestral, emotional, dark, and endlessly clever…radiant enough to ensure Harvey’s place as one of music’s greatestMICK HARVEY : WEBSITE | FACEBOOK

Death Valley Girls 'Glow In The Dark' Album Streaming On Consequence Of Sound Out June 10 On Burger Records
Pre-order HERE Upcoming Shows Include Burger Boogaloo & Record Release Show At The Echo
Photo: Darian Zahedi Think of Death Valley Girls as an acid-tripping science experiment that’s been buried alive, and resurrected as a sexually liberated dystopian chain-gang. A cosmic scar, if you will, on the hills of Echo Park, where the experiment began in 2013 by proto-punk Bonnie Bloomgarden and guitarist Larry Schemel — who got lost in the desert, returned to their haunted garage in Echo Park, and pieced together their vision with shopworn images of sexploitation babes, a blood-soaked Iggy Pop, and Bloomgarden’s series of phantasms, the result of spending a year in a mental institution, where she planned her neon-glowing odyssey by listening to Black Sabbath and UFO, reading about alien conspiracy theories, and deriving her band’s moral compass from a line she saw in a movie:
“Everybody’s gotta be in a gang,” from campy sexploitation romp Switchblade Sisters (1975).
L.A. Weekly referred to them as the city’s unofficial proto-metal boogie band. That was in 2014-15, when their debut Street Venom resurrected the bygone spirit of sleazy rock and roll based on urban ills, tabloid nudes, dangerous sex, and the next generation of girl gangs.
Backstory: Bonnie Bloomgarden once belonged to New York rock band The Witnesses, who emerged from the early 2000s scene made famous by The Strokes. They had a record produced by Tommy Ramone. They lived on a farm for most of that time.
Their drummer is a doe-eyed blonde with a mean streak, a derby girl and cult femme fatale, known simply as “The Kid,” Bloomgarden’s ace. Bassist Nikki Pickle, unearthed in the Arizona desert, recently joined the gang after they recorded their second full-length album Glow in the Dark, which includes guest appearances by Jessie Jones (ex-Feeding People) Bobby May (ex-Gap Dream) Alana Amram and Laena Geronimo of Feels; an album influenced by Bloomgarden’s conspiracy theories and mummy sightings in Echo Park, but mostly it’s their master plan to rev-up their collective, The Cosmic Underground, how they hope to bring together likeminded maniacs under one umbrella of dopey happiness and the glammed-up punkness of Rodney’s English Disco.
ABOUT “GLOW IN THE DARK”:
Recorded in Echo Park’s Station House recording studio, Glow in the Dark is a Burger Records production that includes 10 tracks of bluesy, electric rock that’s both danceable punk and oozing with psychedelic slime; like a doped-up Elvis, had he been an alien and a member of L.A. garage rock pioneers The Seeds. The album will be released on June 10, 2016. Notable tracks include the single, “Glow in the Dark,” “I’m a Man Too,” and “Disco.” "'I'm A Man Too' blocks your path and folds its arms." New York Times "In a scene where a lot of bands are cutting their teeth, Death Valley Girls bare theirs; their punk-metal is the stuff of slash-band-burn guitars, baked-by-the-sun production and slap-you-up"side-the-head attitude." Buzzbands LA
"Glow in the Dark, the band’s second full-length, is a striking record, all brazen fury and bratty beats, something resembling hard rock before Sabbath. And “I’m a Man Too,” with its blues progression and lip-curled vocals, would be a standout if it weren’t for the record’s remarkable consistency." Noisey "Echo Park’s rawest boogie electrocutes old-school psychobilly into a punk frenzy, mixed with Black Sabbath–like elements of the occult. Their gang mentality keeps them insulated from the rest of the L.A. garage-rock scene. This should be their year of domination, as they plan to release a ripping new album titled Glow In The Dark and then start a cult, the Cosmic Underground, in an effort to metastasize from a band into a religion." BAND OF SKULLS’ VIDEO FOR “BODIES” PREMIERES AT BILLBOARD
BAND TO PERFORM ON “LATE NIGHT WITH SETH MEYERS” JUNE 20
BY DEFAULT RELEASED TO CRITICAL ACCLAIM
NORTH AMERICAN TOUR CONFIRMED

The video for “Bodies,” the lead single from Band of Skulls’ latest release By Default, is premiering today via Billboard . The footage is taken from the band’s Electric Ballroom in London and Paris gigs earlier this month. Watch/share the clip here: https://BoS.lnk.to/BodiesVevo.
In addition, the band will perform “Bodies” on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” June 20. By Default continues to receive widespread critical acclaim both stateside and abroad: “Band of Skulls rip and roar, the song a wily mix of clashing guitars, vocals that both rocket high and dip low, and a fierce chorus that is the sonic equivalent of being stared down by some imposing authority. Think a savage hybrid of Modest Mouseand Jack White.”—Consequence of Sound “…each song packs a punch…they've always had a certain swagger in their music but here you can really feel an authority and confidence…”—The Independent
“I hear a new attitude behind it…shows them sharpening their sound.”—KCRW “A crisp return.”—Clash
“Band of Skulls have delivered a gorgeous album, a beautiful combination of blues, indie and rock…By Default is, start to finish, a no lose situation.”—MXDWN To further support the release, Band of Skulls has confirmed North American dates this fall. The tour will kick off September 6 at Boston’s Royale and will make stops at Chicago’s Metro, San Francisco’s The Fillmore, Los Angeles’ Wiltern and New York City’s Terminal 5 among many others. In addition, New York area fans will have a chance to catch Band of Skulls ahead of the fall tour at a very special acoustic performance and signing on Sunday, June 19 at Rough Trade in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Fans will receive two wristbands to the show by purchasing By Default at Rough Trade: http://www.roughtrade.com/events/2016/6/2289. Produced by Gil Norton (Pixies, Foo Fighters, Patti Smith) and recorded at Rockfield Studios, By Default finds the band—Emma Richardson (bass, vocals), Russell Marsden (guitar, vocals) and Matt Hayward (drums)—following up on their acclaimed 2014 release, Himalayan, by making a conscious decision to take a step back from their relentless world-wide touring schedule, having never spent more than a month off the road in the last two years. “We went back to square one,” says Hayward. In the church—between visits from the vicar, bringing tea and biscuits on his trolley—they found the new songs in hours of woodshedding on ratty old practice amps. “It’s definitely a new era,” says Marsden. “The first three records were like a trilogy, a piece of work in of themselves. We wanted to do those things, and we did them all. We took a breath, took a look at what we’d done, and started from scratch again.” [image error] BAND OF SKULLS LIVEJune 19—Brooklyn, NY—Rough Trade (Acoustic)September 6—Boston, MA—RoyaleSeptember 7—Montreal, QC—Corona TheatreSeptember 8—Toronto, ON—The Opera HouseSeptember 9—Columbus, OH—Skully’s Music DinerSeptember 10—Chicago, IL—MetroSeptember 11—Minneapolis, MN—Fine Line Music CaféSeptember 13—Denver, CO—Gothic TheatreSeptember 14—Salt Lake City, UT—Urban LoungeSeptember 15-18—Victoria, BC—RifflandiaSeptember 16—Vancouver, BC—The Vogue TheatreSeptember 18—Seattle, WA—The ShowboxSeptember 19—Portland, OR—Revolution HallSeptember 21—San Francisco, CA—FillmoreSeptember 23—Los Angeles, CA—WilternSeptember 23-25—Las Vegas, NV—Life is BeautifulSeptember 24—Solana Beach, CA—Belly UpSeptember 26—Tucson, AZ—Rialto TheatreSeptember 28—Austin, TX—Antone’sSeptember 29—Dallas, TX—TreesSeptember 30—Memphis, TN—Minglewood HallOctober 1—Nashville, TN—Exit/InOctober 2—Atlanta, GA—Terminal WestOctober 3—Durham, NC—Motorco Music HallOctober 4—Washington DC—Black CatOctober 6—New York, NY—Terminal 5October 7—Philadelphia, PA—Union Transfer By Default Available Now:iTunes: http://smarturl.it/ByDefaultITAmazon CD: http://smarturl.it/ByDefaultCDAmazon Vinyl: http://smarturl.it/ByDefaultLP

Speaking about the video's concept, Eagulls' lead singer George Mitchell says, "I was a fan of John Mintons work that he'd created for Portishead and was lucky enough to get him to work with me on this video. BLOOD ORANGE ANNOUNCES NEW ALBUM FREETOWN SOUND
BLOOD ORANGE ANNOUNCES NEW ALBUM FREETOWN SOUND DUE OUT JULY 1, 2016 ON DOMINO RECORDS
Blood Orange - aka Devonte Hynes - will release his highly anticipated new album, Freetown Sound, on July 1st, 2016 on Domino Records. Written and produced by Hynes,Freetown Sound is a tour de force, a confluence of Hynes' past, present, and future that melds his influences with his own established musical voice. A sneak peek into the album's world (including brief glimpses of new songs and maybe even an album guest or two) can be seen HERE.
PRESS HERE to pre-order Freetown Sound via iTunes or here to pre-order the deluxe edition LP available exclusively through the Domino Mart. The deluxe contains the album on double LP housed in a wide spine jacket, and a bonus 10" with two additional non-album tracks "Do You See My Skin Through The Flames" and "Sandra's Smile," as well as a double sided 24x36 poster. The CD and LP are available August 19th. In Hynes' own words: "I have just finished making an album about my life, my upbringing, being black in England, being black in America...my movement to this country at the age of 21, the same age that my mother moved from Guyana to London, and my father from Sierra Leone to London.Freetown Sound, the name of my album, is taken from Freetown where my father was born." For well over a decade, Devonté Hynes has proven himself a virtuoso of versatility, experimenting with almost every conceivable musical genre under a variety of monikers. After moving to New York City in the mid-2000s, Hynes became Blood Orange, pluming the oeuvres of the city's musical legends to create a singular style of urgent, delicate pop music. Freetown Sound, which follows 2011's Coastal Grooves and 2013's breakthrough Cupid Deluxe, builds upon everything Hynes has done as an artist, resulting in the most expansive artistic statement of his career. Drawing from a deep well of techniques and references, the album unspools like a piece of theater, evoking unexpected communions of moods, voices, and eras. Freetown Sound derives its name from the birthplace of Hynes' father, the capital of Sierra Leone. Thematically, it is profoundly personal and unapologetically political, touching on issues of race, religion, sex, and sexism over 17 shimmering songs. Hynes's solo project lives in tandem with his in-demand role as a songwriter/producer for hire, working with the likes of Carly Rae Jepsen, Solange Knowles, FKA Twigs, and Sky Ferreira. He is also an established composer, scoring films (Gia Coppola's Palo Alto, 2014) and artworks (Alex Da Corte's Easternsports, 2016) alike. In 2015, his evermore-multifaceted career was crystallized on stage, where he invited his collaborators to take part in two sold-out performances at the Apollo Theater, with all proceeds benefiting Opus 118 Harlem School of Music.
