Haley Bonar Shares "Kimset Kill" Video With NPR Music: Fall Tour Dates Announced

Haley Bonar Shares "Kismet Kill" Video With NPR Music New Album Impossible Dream Out August 5 Fall Tour Dates Announced photo credit: Graham Tolbert "Impossible Dream, finds the underrated Minnesotan in top form, mixing darkness and light with a deft touch." -  NPR “Bonar creates a whimsical masterclass of indie-pop songwriting.” -  Consequence Of Sound "In the past 10 years, she naturally progressed from stripped-down folk and country music to incorporating various layers of sound ranging from classical piano to sunshine pop.” -  Interview Watch: "Kismet Kill" official video via  NPR First Watch Stream: “Called You Queen” via NPR's All Songs ConsideredStream: “I Can Change” via  Stereogum  or  SoundCloud Haley Bonar is set to release her upcoming full length album Impossible Dream on August 5th via GNDwire (US) / Spit Comet (CA) / Memphis Industries (UK EU). The album was recorded on analog tape in at Pachyderm Studios in Cannon Falls, MN and was mixed by Chris Coady (Beach House, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, TVOTR) & Robbie Lackritz (Feist) at Haut Bruun.  NPR's First Watch has premiered the official video for "Kismet Kill" from Impossible Dream. The video was directed by Nicole Brending and produced by Tanya K Silver. NPR's Stephen Thompson on the video, "The video for 'Kismet Kill,' in which a party-loving prom queen stares down a life that can never compare to the glories of high school, captures many of Bonar's considerable gifts: Like her music, it pairs shimmery beauty and indelible imagery with an undercurrent of bleakness that can be almost suffocating. As always, "Kismet Kill" finds Bonar packing a cocktail of mixed emotions into bold, economical phrasing — "I was impossible when I was beautiful," she sings in the chorus — while never letting self-laceration stand in the way of a good earworm."Last month NPR's Bob Boilen premiered a stream of "Called You Queen" on  NPR’s All Songs Considered  show. Haley Bonar says,“‘Called You Queen’ is at once an anthem for growing up gay in a small midwestern town and a love story about a woman in love with a man who's going through just that. Standing by him through painful times, she makes peace with the form of love that they can have together.” Stream “Called You Queen”  here Additionally,  Stereogum  premiered “I Can Change” the lead single from Impossible Dream. Stereogum says “the single, is all about breaking out of repeating patterns, as the title suggests, and Bonar’s voice takes on a steely resolve against the rolling, woodsy instrumentation that beckons for forward momentum. ‘I could be so happy if I let myself be happy,' she sings at one point. ' I’m too busy behaving for a crowd.’”Haley Bonar told Stereogum:“Everybody wants a story. Something to sell. I’m here to tell you that there isn’t one with this album, at least in the traditional sense, but ten. Perhaps each of them contain more stories, sitting inside each other like nesting dolls. I could sit here and tell you that some of the songs are about growing up in the Black Hills. Some of the songs are about my parents. Some of the songs are about sexuality. Some of the songs are about loss of youth, teenage parenthood, the lines of social disorder for women, or the terror of jealousy and suspicion. But what I write is borne of my own set of memories and ideas, and once they are released into the world, they do not belong to me anymore. The interpretation is all yours, therefore these stories are yours. What I can tell you is this: My name is Haley Bonar (rhymes with “honor”). I’m 33 years old, a Taurus, and I live in Saint Paul, MN with my daughter Clementine. I also sing in a band called Gramma’s Boyfriend.”Haley Bonar is more than a hard working musician. She is an innovator, creative ass-kicker and visionary dug into the trenches of living. She writes genuine, epochal and poetic tales that feel like our heartbreak, failure, frustration and joy. In a clear, insistent and often haunting voice, she tells real stories back to us, as if they were our own. It just doesn't get much better than that.Haley Bonar has also announced fall US and UK shows. Look for more tour dates to be added in the coming weeks. Please Kill Me: The Uncensored History of Punk

Please Kill Me: The Uncensored History of Punk
20th Anniversary Book Tour at Ace Hotel featuring writers Gillian McCain and Legs McNeil

Please Kill Me: The Uncensored History of Punk 20th Anniversary Book Tour at Ace Hotel featuring writers Gillian McCain and Legs McNeil
July-August, 2016Free, All Ages
"The raw humanity and free spirit of artists such as Patti Smith, The Ramones and Iggy Pop have always been an inspiration for Ace. Please Kill Me was one of Alex's favorite books, so to host the 20th anniversary tour with Legs and Gillian is an immense honor." - Kelly Sawdon, Partner and Chief Brand Officer, Ace Hotel.
A Time Out and New York Daily News Best Book of the Year when it came out in 1996, Please Kill Me: The Uncensored Oral History of Punk has now become a contemporary American classic, giving a complete analysis of the punk phenomenon from its origins in Andy Warhol's New York to its last gasps in the 1980s. The book features reports from famous and infamous punks who lent their voices to chronicle a musical and social revolution, including lggy Pop, Richard Hell, Patti Smith, Dee Dee and Joey Ramone, Malcolm McLaren, Jim Carroll, Debbie Harry, Lou Reed and many more.
As 2016 marks the 20th anniversary of Please Kill Me, Grove Press is issuing a special edition of the book complete with new photos, chapters and an afterword by authors Legs McNeil and Gillian McCain. When Please Kill Me came out in 1996 it was revolutionary, not just because it unabashedly chronicled America's punk movement through first-hand accounts, but because it helped to popularize the oral history style, later perfected in Edie: American Girl by Jean Stein and George Plimpton. McNeil and McCain sum up the beauty of the form: "The narrative oral history is such an incredible format because it draws from every art form," they write, "the chapters have the rhythm of song, the cuts are cinematic, newspaper headlines can punctuate incidents, slang is celebrated, and first-hand accounts bring the poetry of the spoken word."
In celebration of the anniversary, Ace Hotel - who cites punk amongst its influences - is honored to host a series of events across six properties, which will combine readings by the authors along with DJ parties and festivities to mark the occasion.
The book tour schedule is as follows:
London on July 8th
New York on July 14th
Pittsburgh on July 18th
Palm Springs on July 30th
Los Angeles on August 1st
Portland, OR on August 8th
Legs McNeil and Gillian McCain will appear in every city except London, where Gillian McCain will be the guest of honor. All events are free, all ages and open to the public.

"Ranks up there with the great rock & roll books of all time."  - Time Out NY
"Lurid, insolent, disorderly, funny, sometimes gross, sometimes mean and occasionally touching . . . Resounds with authenticity."- New York Times
"An often shocking oral history of those gloriously volatile years when a pocket of this country's largest city raised its middle finger to the rest of the world."-Chicago Sun-Times

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (June 14, 2016)  Noise Pop and Another Planet Entertainment are excited to announce the full music lineup for the tenth annual Treasure Island Music Festival (TIMF) to be held October 15-16 in San Francisco on the historic Treasure Island. This will be the last year on the Island before relocating in 2017. The Festival will continue for years to come in another location to be named at a later date, but TIMF is inviting music fans to come bid farewell to the island with another amazing celebration that will light up the Bay Area one final time from the island. Two-Day GA and VIP tickets will go on sale this Thursday, June 16 at 10 a.m. (PT) at treasureislandfestival.com.
Since it’s inception in 2007, the Festival has brought attendees an eclectic mix of music performances with no overlapping sets, and this year continues that tradition. Internationally renowned Icelandic rock group Sigur Rós, who are in the midst of the band’s most intimate tour in a decade that features stripped down string and brass sections and new music, are set to headline, as well as West Coast hip-hop royalty Ice Cube, who will perform on stage at TIMF alongside fellow N.W.A. members MC Ren and DJ Yella. N.W.A. was just inducted this April into The Rock And Roll Hall of Fame.

TIMF 2016 will also welcome a variety of international acts including English singer-songwriter James Blake, who will be performing in support of his recent album, The Colour in Anything, released to critical acclaim this May; Canadian electronica duo Purity Ring; UK-based Glass Animals, who are also releasing their sophomore album, How To Be A Human Being, later this summer; EDM pioneer Duke Dumont; UK rapper Stormzy; multi-instrumentalist producer Mura Masa; Spanish indie rockers Hinds; and the English electronic-soul duo HONNE, who are releasing their debut album, Warm On A Cold Night, this July.
Additional acts at the 10th annual TIMF include electronic musician ZHU, who is set to release his long-awaited debut album, Generation Why, this July; San Francisco’s own Tycho and Deafheaven; beloved Canadian singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Mac DeMarco; one of today’s most exciting up-and-coming rappers Young Thug; Flight Facilities; Sylvan Esso; Christine And The Queens; Neon Indian; Wild Nothing; Kelela; How To Dress Well; and Car Seat Headrest; as well as Oakland-based acts Day Wave and Kamaiyah.
2-Day GA tickets go on sale this Thursday, June 16 at 10 a.m. (PT) at treasureislandfestival.com. A limited number of Early Bird tickets are available for $159.50, and when those run out, the ticket price will then be $179.50. Additionally, VIP 2-Day tickets are available for $335, with perks including a preferred viewing area next to main stage, an exclusive tented lounge with full liquor bar, special restroom facilities, VIP food concessions, and additional amenities that will be announced later. Parking passes will also be available for purchase in the coming months.
Since year one at Treasure Island, the Festival has sought to bring attendees an experience unlike any other. Last year’s performances included some special on-stage collaborations with The National and CHVRCHES as well as Run the Jewels and Big Grams, along with numerous other outstanding sets. Past performers to grace the TI stages have included Beck, Outkast, Justice, LCD Soundsystem, Vampire Weekend, Belle & Sebastian, The xx, Atoms for Peace, The Flaming Lips, Modest Mouse, Public Enemy, Massive Attack, and so many more.
At Treasure Island Music Festival, fans never miss a note of any of their favorite artists, as there are no overlapping sets. And in addition to the star-studded music lineup, TIMF provides attendees an array of fun activities at the Festival, including the iconic 60-foot Century Ferris Wheel surrounded by an ever-changing diverse mix of interactive art installations and roaming performers, as well as some of the best cuisine the Bay Area has to offer.
This year’s Festival will be a huge celebration of ten years on the iconic Island, building on the memorable music of the past decade and closing out the last year on TI with a crescendo of sights, sounds, laughter, fun, and food. For more information on the Festival, go to treasureislandfestival.com. Make sure to also follow TIMF at facebook.com/treasureislandfestival, on Twitter @timfsf, and on Instagram @timfsf for updates and special promotions. The Festival’s official hashtag is #TIMF10.

Failure Celebrate Fantastic Planet's 20th Anniversary with String of Intimate Club Performances

FAILURE ANNOUNCE STRING OF INTIMATE CLUB PERFORMANCES MARKING 20th ANNIVERSARY OF FANTASTIC PLANET’S RELEASE

FIRST TIME SEMINAL ALBUM WILL BE PERFORMED IN ITS ENTIRETY
(credit: Ryan Daly)
LOS ANGELES, June 13, 2016 – Failure celebrate the 20th anniversary of their seminal, 17-track album, Fantastic Planet, with a string of intimate club performances, recreating a routing similar to one they followed after the album’s August 1996 release.

“As much as we were trying to create a new and unique sound with Fantastic Planet, it’s also an homage to the pioneers of the Long-Play format. In the age of streaming playlists, it’s comforting for us to know that others share our love for the Album as art form,” said Failure front man Ken Andrews.

Tickets are on-sale this Friday at 10 am local time. Special, limited edition 20th anniversary Fantastic Planet VIP packages will be available simultaneously viaFailureband.com.

Fantastic Planet was released on Aug. 13, 1996. The album earned a perfect 5-star score from Alternative Press who said the collection was able “to breathe life into the corpse of contemporary, guitar-driven rock” adding that the band was “willing to stretch the definition of both their instruments and their songs.” In the years that followed, the album’s stature has grown, becoming one of the era’s most influential and enduring rock records.  “Fantastic Planet is the almighty jam,” said Spin in an article announcing the band’s 2014 return, “a 17-track beast of guitar-antihero theatrics and studio-as-instrument bummer luxury.” Pitchfork dubbed the album “a sleeper classic” while Decibel penned a seven-page “Hall of Fame” feature on the album, saying “seriously, this is one of those albums that’s so perfect, the band almost had to implode after it’s release.”

ELIOT SUMNER Announces Summer 2016 Tour Dates

ELIOT SUMNER Announces Summer 2016 Tour Dates    Eliot Sumner performs on Jimmy Kimmel Live!
"She's traded in the pop sensibilities of her youth for the darkness and worries of adulthood with excellent results" -  Consequence of Sound
"There's a newly minted swagger to her pop" -  Noisey
"It's engaging stuff that inspires you to move with an '80s-influenced beat"  - Stereogum
"Eliot Sumner will have you dancing with new single 'After Dark'" -  Billboard
"[Information] feels cohesive-a blended margarita of dazzling synth layers and Sumner's signature vocals, dreamily masculine and coolly compelling" -  Flaunt
"The husky vocals give ['Species'] a goth vibe, the analog synth sequencing provides a minimal wave foundation, shards of angular guitar tear through the refrain and the multi-tracked chorus is pure pop catharsis" -  Idolator
"Eliot Sumner gives us the chills with her new track 'Firewood'" -  Earmilk
"['Dead Arms & Dead Legs' is] a pretty huge pop song, with Sumner's androgynous alto sounding dusty and world-weary over a cloudy melody, anxious percussion, and-by song's end-a seasick swell of feedback" -  The Fader Eliot's talents as a songwriter and instrumentalist gained praise upon the release of four new songs last year -  "Dead Arms & Dead Legs" "After Dark" "Firewood"  and  "Species"  - as well as the release of Information. Influences from Krautrock-inspired riffs to pulsing synth-pop rhythms paired with her signature alto are heard throughout the record. 2015 also marked Eliot's first North American tour with On An On in August and September followed by a European tour in November.  In 2014, following the release of her first EP, Eliot joined Lykke Li as support on her European tour dates. The backstage antics of Eliot and her band were captured in a three-part behind the scenes documentary featured on i-D, "On the Road with Eliot Sumner and Lykke Li" -  PRESS HERE  to watch.
