THE WEDDING PRESENT new single 'Birdsnest' from new album, 'Going Going...' out tomorrow

THE WEDDING PRESENT
NEW ALBUM ‘GOING, GOING…’ RELEASED 2ND SEPTEMBER ON SCOPITONES
Stream new single ‘Birdsnest’ HERE
[image error]
Available in three audio-visual formats: standard CD + DVD, deluxe CD + DVD in hard-bound ‘book pack’ with extra tracks + lyrics, deluxe double 180g LP + DVD with extra tracks + lyrics
After the announcement of ‘Going Going…’, indie darlings The Wedding Present have shared ‘Rachel’; of which David Gedge says “Every now and then The Wedding Present comes up with an out and out pop song!  I think this might be favourite track on the album.”
The band [drums, bass & guitars] was recorded at Studios La Fabrique [Saint-Rémy-De-Provence, France] by Andrew Scheps. The singing was recorded at Crackle & Pop Studios [Seattle, Washington] by Paul Hiraga and Allan’s Cove Studios [Brighton, England] by Samuel Beer-Pearce. The track was mixed by Andrew Scheps.
Always challenging and experimental, the idea to release the new project in a multi-media format is something that has been marinating with bandleader David Gedge for some time. As he points out, work began soon after the unveiling of The Wedding Present’s 2012 critically acclaimed album ‘Valentina’. “I’d already decided by then that I didn’t want to make the next release just ‘another album’ and so I came up with the idea of twenty ‘interconnected’ pieces of music. Then, in the summer of 2014 I travelled across the USA with photographer Jessica McMillan and we made some atmospheric short films to accompany the tracks. Since then it’s been a case of progressing through the music, trying all sorts of ideas, seeing how they work set against the visuals.”
Uncharacteristically, the album opens with four hauntingly beautiful instrumental songs, including the cinematic ‘Sprague’ and the absolutely captivating ‘Marblehead’. ‘Going, Going...’ then takes a headlong dash through tracks such as ‘Two Bridges’, ‘Birdsnest’, ‘Kill Devil Hills’ and ‘Broken Bow’... all perfectly executed in classic Wedding Present fashion; a jangle of clanging guitars, a squeal of feedback and a rush of adrenaline.
Few come as close to articulating the trials and pitfalls of a relationship in ways so instantly recognisable to the listener as David Gedge; his lyrics' naturalism and truthfulness accentuated by his earthy accent. With ‘Little Silver’, ‘Bear’, ‘Lead’ and ‘Rachel’ he proves yet again that he is a virtuoso when it comes to the bittersweet love song; his knack for a simple turn of phrase perfectly articulating the banalities and ecstasies of a relationship.
Whilst they are the undoubted masters of frenetic indie-pop, The Wedding Present re-route momentarily on ‘Emporia’ and ‘Wales’ before ultimately immersing us in an epic album finale with ‘Santa Monica’. Throughout this enchanting album ambient soundscapes and orchestral pop arrangements jostle for position with layers of feedback drenched guitars, pummelling drums and a truly massive bass sound as we hear some of the heaviest material that the band have ever recorded.
The films that accompany each track are a mesmerising collection of moving photographs. The rippling water in ‘Marblehead’ delicately draws us into the melody while ‘Two Bridges’ takes us onto a Manhattan street corner and exudes New York City in the summertime. The feeling of a road trip is present throughout as we see the rivers and lakes of the Mid-West and the deserts of the South-West before the album ends in a beautifully fitting way with the sun setting over the Santa Monica mountains.
The Wedding Present’s impact on independent music is infinitely present. Their uncomplicated approach to the disillusionment of love is salient in the sound of many of the subsequent bands of their ilk since the band’s inception and an influence on everyone from British Sea Power to The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart among countless others.

Cherry Glazerr signs to Secretly Canadian + Shares "Told You I'd Be With The Guys" video

CHERRY GLAZERR SIGNS TO SECRETLY CANADIAN

SHARES MUSIC VIDEO FOR "TOLD YOU I'D BE WITH THE GUYS"

EMBARKING ON NEW TOUR DATES

Credit: Daria KobayashiIt's with great excitement that Cherry Glazerr announces their signing to Secretly Canadian. To celebrate, the band is sharing a new single entitled "Told You I'd Be With The Guys". The song articulates lead-singer Clementine Creevy's realization that she needs to consciously strive for solidarity with other women in order to combat the sexism that is ingrained in our culture and consequentially within herself.
She hisses, "I told you, told you I'd be with the guys / But I know better now / Than to be with the guys", before snarling "I was a lone wolf / I thought I lost my pack / Where are my ladies? / I guess that was my fault".
Director Riley Blakeway visually compliments the sentiment with images of mundane men, all dressed in a uniform of red polo shirts and khakis, multiplying and crowding her space to a physically claustrophobic and soul-suffocating climax. Stream the video at the link below.
WATCH: "Told You I'd Be With The Guys" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GFgz9aiiZlQ

Cherry Glazerr is also embarking on a new set of tour dates including festival appearances at Made in America, Desert Daze, Pitchfork Avant Garde, and Mirrors Festival. See below for the full routing.
 Tour Dates:
8/31 - Cambridge, MA @ Middle East9/1 - Providence, RI @ Fete Lounge9/3 - Philadelphia, PA @ Made in America10/14 - Joshua Tree, CA @ Desert Daze10/26 - Paris, FR @ Pitchfork Avant Garde10/29 - London, UK @ Mirrors FestivalAbout Cherry Glazerr:
Cherry Glazerr was dreamt up by Clementine Creevy at age 15 in her LA bedroom. Having released their debut, Haxel Princess, on much-loved Cali imprint Burger Records and the scorching Had Ten Dollaz 7" on Suicide Squeeze, the band has now evolved into a wildly complex, hugely guitar heavy, and unapologetically loud machine. The catchy hooks in Cherry Glazerr's songs offer a counterpoint to the purposeful social commentary and incisive humor which has been ever-present since the band's formation. Bolstering Clem's vision is the loud-in-every-way-possible drummer Tabor Allen and the level-headed, nevertheless bad-ass, multi-instrumentalist Sasami Ashworth. Their new single, "Told You I'd Be With The Guys" documents Clem's realization that she needed to establish solidarity with other women and stop being a "lone wolf." "Sexism is so ingrained in me, I can often feel that men are the only ones who can help me socially, economically. The most important thing in my life is that I've realized I need to work for solidarity. That song's both hopeful and dismal!" she laughs. Clem still feels like she constantly need to prove herself. "Women work from behind their oppression. In order to make good art you need to be emotionally free and sadly, not a lot of women are able to do that. That always puts a fire under my ass."

The Notwist to release Superheroes, Ghostvillains & Stuff digital live album on October 14th in North America through Sub Pop

The Notwist to release Superheroes,  Ghostvillains  & Stuff digital live album on October 14th in North America through Sub Pop

Shares 2016-17 European tour dates Photo credit:Patrick MorarescuListen: “Pick Up the Phone” (live) via FLOOD Magazine

Superheroes, Ghostvillains & Stuff also available in
Europe on 2xCD/3xLP via Alien Transistor
The Notwist are pleased to share release details on behalf ofSuperheroes, Ghostvillains & Stuff, their new live album. The album will be available as a digital only release in North America from Sub Pop [preorder link] and in Europe on 2xCD/3xLP/DL through Alien Transistor [preorder link].

Superheroes, Ghostvillains & Stuff features 16 tracks from The Notwist’s extensive catalog, and was recorded on December 16, 2015 on the second of three consecutive, sold-out nights at UT Connewitz in Leipzig, Germany.

You can now listen to the live version of The Notwist classic, “Pick Up the Phone,” now via FLOOD Magazine [link here].

FLOOD says of the track, "We’re also pleased to be premiering theSuperheroes version of the Neon Golden single “Pick Up the Phone.” While it retains the original’s sense of longing and sweetness—there’s no changing the tinge of hopelessness in that vocal melody, nor any chance of scrubbing out the song’s signature pillowy loop—it concludes in a flutter of electronic wing-beating, its cold anxiety at once overwhelming and accentuating the song’s soft human core."

The Notwist have also scheduled European tour dates in late 2016 and early 2017, which span November 5th in Weissenhaeuser Strand, DE at Rolling Stone Weekender through February 19th in Frankfurt, DE at Batschkapp. Please find a complete list of tour dates below.

About The Notwist’s Superheroes,  Ghostvillains  & Stuff:
Remember how badly we wanted to join them and be part of those sea-faring adventures: Jack London’s The Sea-Wolf, classic TV shows based on his novel The Road, on RaduToduran’s novels... back then, a couple decades ago, the titles of these shows alone were enough to trigger some strong gusts in our hearts, salty squalls perfect for imaginary downwind journeys we dreamed of with billowing sails. We wanted to cruise alongside albatrosses, seagulls, and fellow sailors. Floating high above a three-masted vessel, we watched our own adventures unfold far below, an imagined movie scene complete with a whole crew that worked the rigging, and all the rest. Cutting waves. Amidst the storm and stress of sounds hitting our eardrums far out in the ocean. Combined with the sounds of rotors, of tropics crossed, of marimbas and cabin wood pounded, of strange music spotted in the distance. And even though it was merely for an hour or two that we were rescued by that seal-hunting ship “Ghost,” as Jack London had it, plus, even worse, often found ourselves surrounded by villains: it was a great escape, for we’d successfully set sails – to new and exciting places.

Both around their own Weilheim shores and elsewhere, brothers Markus and Micha Acher have launched various musical vessels, bands and free-floating constellations over the past three decades – and yet: amid all these other speedboats and unlikely sonic barges, The Notwist has always remained the mother ship. This new album documents the latest live incarnation of this very band, which also features Andi Haberl, Max Punktezahl, Karl Ivar Refseth, and Cico Beck. Recorded on December 16, 2015 on the second of three consecutive, sold-out nights at UT Connewitz in Leipzig, Germany, "Superheroes, Ghost-Villains & Stuff" indeed feels like a first-hand live experience caught on triple vinyl. That’s why it’s the definitive album of The Notwist’s career.

Although there is one song that points to the early, “louder years” of The Notwist – “One Dark Love Poem” off the album Nook –, the rest of the night’s set sees the band perform all the major hits off Neon Golden, The Devil, You + Me, and Close To The Glass. However, these are different, organically enhanced versions, newinterpretations and combinations that feel much more alive; thanks to Olaf Opal’s incredible mix, they sometimes even outshine the original studio recordings. Listening to "Superheroes, Ghost-Villains & Stuff" feels like watching these songs evolve and change, moving from one frame to the next, much like a baroque triptych.

What starts out like ‘wimmelbook’ imagery, the music soon folds and unfolds like a Moebius strip: Sans bottom or top, sans inside or outside, the inside becomes the outside and vice versa. It’s all about sonic interconnection, about music as entanglement, music as reconciliation. The rather majestic, cinematic (indie) pop and experimental, kraut- infused jazz, the spirit of the enlightenment and baroque playfulness, the traces of modernism and minimal music, dub leanings, hip-hop lessons, and even hints of house music: here is where they all come together, reconciled in a sound that’s both melancholy and romantic. And ultimately, the spirit of these songs is set free – and the band has released itself, is free at last.

As for the album title, it’s lifted from the song “Kong,” and encapsulates Markus Acher’s motto. Throughout the track, the water theme first appears as a dangerous threat: a force that’s strong enough to wash away an entire house; and yet the fluid state keeps transforming and eventually releases that sense of threat into something rather hopeful, a new musical beginning, a melodic departure that ultimately leads to euphoria and a renewed spirit of adventure. These are the strong gusts mentioned above, it’s the spirit of discovery, the urge to set sail together. The crew’s back at it, working the instruments, the rigging, with sails a- billow, launching the next voyage of discovery, assuming the East in the West and vice versa. And thus the adventure saga continues.

Tim Buckley Lady, Give Me Your Key: The Unissued 1967 Solo Acoustic Sessions

Tim Buckley
Lady, Give Me Your Key: The Unissued 1967 Solo Acoustic Sessions We're thrilled to announce our new release of thirteen previously unissued acoustic tracks by American folk legend Tim Buckley. These tracks come from the 1967 sessions that yielded Buckley's sophomore album, Goodbye & Hello. Seven of the tracks have never been heard before as they were never released on any Buckley album. The liners feature an in-depth interview with Buckley's lyricist and best friend Larry Beckett. The luminous careers of both Tim and his talented son Jeff were cut short by tragic premature deaths, so these newly unearthed tracks are really something to be treasured. This is Tim Buckley at his stripped-down, acid-folk finest.

Preorder is available now on limited edition gold wax, black wax, CD, & digital.

Available for immediate purchase 10.21.16!

Austin, Texas' Molly Burch has announced she's signed with Captured Tracks.  Today she's revealed her video for debut single "Downhearted" via FADER who've described Molly's voice as a  "time capsule"  and  "retro country and soul in the best way" .   After a relocation from Asheville to Austin, Molly found herself reflecting back on past lives and past relationships. Drawing inspiration from Dusty Springfield, Patsy Cline, TheShirelles, and The Everly Brothers, she recorded a mature set of tracks full of vintage atmosphere and dreamy melancholy.
"Downhearted" is a melodic, soulful introduction which dives into the depths of love and lovesickness, giving voice to the desires that separate the two. Burch explains "she wanted 'Downhearted' to have that mix of feelings. Heartache, but also the freedom and lightness that comes with being alone, and realizing that you're enough."
For the video, she joined director and friend Jordan Moser to make something fun, simple and dreamy-- sort of Françoise Hardy does East Austin."
