Preoccupations Release 11-minute "Memory", New Album Out 9/16

PREOCCUPATIONS RELEASE 11 MINUTE SCORCHER "MEMORY" FEATURING DAN BOECKNER OF WOLF PARADE

"Memory" is perhaps the most important moment on the new self-titled Preoccupations album. Coming in at just over 11 minutes long, it's been described as the album's keystone, with an intimate narrative and a truly timeless post-punk center. Like many classic songs in history "Memory" has distinctive sections, it's emotional and transcending.
Speaking of the track, Monty of Preoccupations notes, ""Memory" was the second song that we started working on for Preoccupations after "Anxiety". It was unique to the sessions of the record in that we worked on it in every studio that we were in. The idea we had for it's arc made it necessary to put more work into it than any of the other tracks. The finished result was worked on in 6 different studios over almost two years. Getting Dan in to record the vocals was the final piece of the puzzle and was Matt's idea. We were tracking in Montreal and cold-called him to see if he wanted to sing a duet of sorts, but his vocal was so perfect for it that we didn't use Matt's for most of it."
Early reviews coming from the UK are already hailing the album as one of the best releases of 2016. Line Of Best Fit named it their Album of the Week writing "Preoccupations' greatest asset is in its breadth of ability; spontaneous, yet considered; off-kilter, but instinctive; eccentric, although well composed" while Uncut Magazine gave it an 8/10 saying "...the songs benefit from sharper focus than the quartet ever achieved before".  In what is a flawless review, Loud and Quiet gave Preoccupations a perfect 10/10, hailing "Viet Cong were a great band...Preoccupations are even better".
Preoccupations have just finished up their tour with Explosions in the Sky which included a stop in LA for FYF where a huge crowd turned out to see the band absolutely destroy, playing songs from their new album and favorites from their previous Viet Cong LP. The non-stop touring continues into the fall with more tour dates added including extensive touring of North America with support from Australia's next big thing Methyl Ethyl. All dates are listed below.
Preoccupations is out September 16th on Jagjaguwar. Full album download and stream is available now on request.

ELEPHANT STONE SHARES VIDEO FOR "ANDROMEDA"

ELEPHANT STONE SHARES VIDEO FOR "ANDROMEDA"
FROM NEW ALBUM SHIP OF FOOLS
DUE SEPTEMBER 16 VIA ELEPHANTS ON PARADE (DIGITAL)AND NOVEMBER 25 VIA BURGER RECORDS (PHYSICAL)
TOURING THE U.S. AND CANADA THIS FALL
STREAM // EMBED "ANDROMEDA" VIDEO
Montreal psych-rock trio Elephant Stone are excited to share the video for "Andromeda," the newest from their upcoming fourth full-length Ship Of Fools (which will see a digital release on September 16 via Elephants on Parade and a physical release on November 25 via Burger Records). The video, an entertaining clip that features frontman/bassist Rishi Dhir as a spaceship captain, is available to stream or embed HERE .
Elephant Stone has also added tour dates in the U.S. and Canada, including stops at Brooklyn, NY's Trans Pecos, Chicago, IL's Schuba's, The Satellite in Los Angeles and more. The full list of tour dates can be found below.
Evolution, change, artistic growth, exploration -- these words are associated with all great rock and roll bands, but they're quickly becoming synonymous with Elephant Stone, the Montreal trio led by singer/bassist/songwriter/sitar player, Rishi Dhir. With Ship of Fools, Dhir and his bandmates -- Miles Dupire (drummer/backing vox) and Gabriel Lambert (guitar/backing vox) -- have solidified Elephant Stone's place among the greats as innovators who are unafraid of challenging themselves and their audience.
As " Manipulator " attests, Ship of Fools presents a new Elephant Stone emphasizing catchy grooves and vocal melodies that smack of both infectious pop and dance. But Dhir's lyrics have lost none of their sophistication: his social commentary makes " Manipulator " music for the head and heart.
The rest of Ship of Fools follows suit. The creation of its eleven tracks, as Dhir says, allowed him to embrace his true identity as "pop songwriter" whose tunes are custom built for the dance floor. Elephant Stone's refined vision on Ship of Fools is the realization of the gifts of a great band. Add the talents of producer Marcus Paquin (Arcade Fire, The National) to the works, and the result is an album chock full of stylistically diverse cuts that could all stand on their own as hit singles. Indeed, " The Devil's Shelter (ft. Alex Maas of The Black Angels)," " Where I'm Going ," and " Andromeda " have already been released as singles to critical acclaim. They explore the deep reaches of space rock ("Andromeda"), aggressive dance music ("The Devil's Shelter"), and sophisticated pop songcraft ("Where I'm Going").
Formed in Montreal in 2009, Elephant Stone have toured extensively throughout North America and Europe and are prominent members of the burgeoning psych rock scene. Dhir has recorded, performed, and toured with indie rock icons (Beck), legendary cult bands (The Brian Jonestown Massacre), and contemporary psych titans (The Black AngelsThe Horrors). Their first album, The Seven Seas , was nominated for the prestigious Polaris Music Prize in 2009.

Dan Deacon Shares New Track “Change Your Life (You Can Do It)” with NPR Music; On Tour This Fall

Dan Deacon Shares New Track “Change Your Life (You Can Do It)” with NPR Music Watch The New Music Video On Tour This Fall

Baltimore-based musician Dan Deacon has released a brand new track “Change Your Life (You Can Do It)” out today on Domino.  Originally featured briefly in the “NewNow” episode of Adult Swim’s Off The Air, who previously collaborated with Deacon on the “When I Was Done Dying” music video, this new track has become a part of Deacon’s live shows since the start of this year. The music video to accompany the euphoric and motivational new song, directed by Ben O’Brien, was filmed during his equally transformational and interactive live shows over the North American summer 2015 tour for Deacon’s latest studio album Gliss Riffer. Watch the video for "Change Your Life (You Can Do It)" HERE.  Deacon had the following to say about the track’s inception: “Sometime in late 2015 a good friend and long time collaborator, Dave Hughes, asked me to write a new song for the New Year’s Eve episode of his show ‘Off The Air.’ The theme for the show was ‘NEWNOW’ and it couldn’t have come at a better time for me as I was going through some pretty heavy shit at the time and was very depressed, confused and alone. The theme helped me realize I was in a transitional phase of my life and to try to pull myself together and remove the aspects of life that I was in conflict with. Writing the song became an opportunity to motivate myself to change myself. After I started writing the synth parts I realized I wanted the vocals to also be all synthetic and for the lyrics to be a series of simple but empowering mantras to motivate.” “Change Your Life (You Can Do It)” is available today to download on iTunes and streaming on all digital platforms.  09-10 West Palm Beach, FL - Respectable Street
09-16 Denver, CO - Riot Fest
09-17 Austin, TX - The Mohawk
09-24 Columbus, OH - Ace of Cups
09-25 St. Louis, MO  - Murmuration Festival
10-13 San Francisco, CA - California Academy of Sciences (Treasure Island Pre-Party)
10-15 Santa Fe, NM - Meow Wolf

"Our goal is to free the artist's creative and business process from the strictures of the current model, which can often become an economic stranglehold for artists, especially when it comes to musicians, record labels, and the business of making records." While Refuge Foundation provides opportunities for so many facets of the arts - photography, sculpture, film, dance, wood and metal working, and more -  the Best Fest will focus its partnership on emerging musicians and The Refuge Artist in Residence Program.  Singer and songwriter J-Council, 35, is the first such musician in residence and will be joining the star-studded Petty Fest cast. "Refuge Foundation offered me the time, money, and the freedom to help me write and create my own message," says J-Council, who will release his debut album later this year.  "The chance to perform alongside so many incredible artists at Petty Fest is just crazy!"   "Refuge Foundation and The Best Fest are a natural fit," says Scaggs.  "Music is the thing that keeps our collective of musicians alive, spiritually and economically. By donating the proceeds from Best Fest concerts to Refuge we are waving the flag of togetherness, which is at the core of what we do."Once again, The Best Fest is proud to have Jameson Irish Whiskey on board as sponsor.  The Fests started in the same New York community of bartenders, musicians, and craftsmen that adopted Jameson as their drink of choice. Haley Bonar Shares "Called You Queen" Video With Stereogum

Haley Bonar Shares "Called You Queen" Video With StereogumNew Album Impossible Dream Out NowU.S. Tour Kicks Off Tonight In Chicago

"Impossible Dream, finds the underrated Minnesotan in top form, mixing darkness and light with a deft  touch." - NPR
"She's gonna be your new indie fave." - Elle Magazine "Haley Bonar’s Impossible Dream is a brisk half-hour of barbed power-pop tunes that sting so sweetly that it’s only after the fact you consider you might need a tetanus shot." - Pitchfork
"Bonar’s voice and lyrics are as pure and potent as ever, and the constantly shifting guitar aesthetics — from a distorted jangle to swampy bass and back — make for a versatile but focused body of work. Listen." - Stereogum
“Bonar creates a whimsical masterclass of indie-pop songwriting.” - Consequence Of Sound"These songs are so powerfully melodic, it’s difficult not to get swept into the world of an artist who is more than ready for her time in the spotlight." - American Songwriter
"An album that is as catchy and danceable as it is lush and poignant, the perfect soundtrack for an end-of-summer road trip." - BUST Magazine "In the past 10 years, she naturally progressed from stripped-down folk and country music to incorporating various layers of sound ranging from classical piano to sunshine pop.” - Interview"Poetic, Fresh, Vibey." - Ezra Koenig (Vampire Weekend), Time Crisis on Beats 1 "I love this ('I Can Change’)." - Sir Elton John, Rocket Hour on Beats 1 "My pick for album of of the year” - Lauren Laverne, BBC 6 MusicWatch: "Called You Queen" video via Stereogum or YouTubeWatch: "I Can Change" video at Elle Magazine or YouTubeWatch: "Kismet Kill" official video via NPR First Watch Haley Bonar's highly anticipated full-length album Impossible Dream on is out now via GNDwire (US) / Spit Comet (CA) / Memphis Industries (UK + EU). Impossible Dream has been rave reviews from influential publications such as Pitchfork, NPR, MOJO, Q, Uncut, Bust, No Depression and more. The album is available to order now on CD and limited edition teal vinyl in  Haley Bonar’s Online Store  as well as digitally via  iTunes . Impossible Dream follows up Haley Bonar's acclaimed release Last War and was recorded on analog tape in at Pachyderm Studios in Cannon Falls, MN and was mixed by Chris Coady (Beach House, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, TVOTR) & Robbie Lackritz (Feist) at Haut Bruun.
Haley Bonar's U.S. tour kicks off tonight in Chicago at Schubas. The upcoming tour fall tour will make stop in major cites including Brooklyn, Philadelphia, Boston and more. Additional tour dates will be announced in the coming weeks.

Today Stereogum has premiered the Torey Hanson directed video for "Called You Queen" from Impossible Dream. Haley Bonar and Torey Hanson told Stereogum, "The video well describes the sentiment of the song in that the young girl cohabitates with the harsh realities of the world but never gives up her own “impossible dream.” In her world, she is free, she is loved by all, and most importantly, she loves herself. The excessive nature of the food and video game obsession also hints at the slightly grotesque anatomy of American culture, though the depiction of it in the video is lighthearted and cartoonish. The would-be alcoholics are as friendly and helpful as the characters Dorothy meets in the Wizard of Oz, which was a major inspiration behind the video, and we share her reality- whether she’s about to wake up or not." "Called You Queen" is also streaming to share at YouTube.  Haley Bonar has spent a lot of the past few years poring over her past. That has something to do with the sound of her recent recordings, whether it be her recent solo efforts or the throwback funky punky grooves of her side project Gramma’s Boyfriend.

But on her latest album Impossible Dream, this glance in the rearview has also inspired some of the most poignant and pointed work of her long career as songwriter even if you have to dig a little to find Bonar within the tunes.

Impossible Dream then, like all of Bonar’s work, gains its power from a combination of the personal and universal. Even when she sings about her days hitting up basement punk shows on “Better Than Me” or kicks off this album with an ode to her formative years in the gently chiming “Hometown,” it will surely stir up memories from your own younger days.
And as with her prior albums, Bonar reveals a widescreen look at the world, touching on issues of sexuality, jealousy, and the fragile ties that bind relationships together. If they connect with your circumstance and the cultural conversation at large, that’s just a welcome coincidence.“Those things have always been relevant to me,” Bonar says. “Those conversations have been happening my entire life.”
What is clear right now is the impact this album is looking to have on the world at large. Bonar has already received some excited press notices about the two singles from Impossible Dream that have already been released: “I Can Change” (“a resolute pillar of bold, classic songwriter,” according to The Line of Best Fit) and “Kismet Kill,” which Stereogum called “a penetrating rumination on just how transitory love and beauty can be.“). The biggest stamp of approval, though, has come from Elton John. The venerated singer/songwriter chose to play “I Can Change” on his Beats 1 show Rocket Man Radio. “Hearing Elton John say my song is beautiful is pretty awesome,” Bonar admits.
To say that Bonar’s career has been building towards that nod from a rock god, though, is to dismiss all the hard work she has done since she started releasing music in 2001. The 33-year-old singer/songwriter has been building a fanbase slowly and steadily, while remaining in complete control of her art. As with all of her prior albums, Bonar wrote and arranged all the songs on Impossible Dream. She also co-produced the record with Minneapolis mainstay Jacob Hanson. Chances are she’d be making this music even without the support of a label or her many fans around the world. But, just as the title of this new album suggests, she’s living out her wildest and most impossible dream right now.
“If somebody came to me as a teenager and said, ‘In 15 years, you’ll have made nine records and be touring the world,’ I would have been, like, ‘No way,’” she says, laughing. “It’s true that it might not look like a lot to some people, but it’s very special to me.”Haley Bonar Tour Dates9.06 | Chicago, IL - Schubas 9.07 | Columbus, OH - Ace of Cups 9.08 | Philadelphia, PA - World Cafe Live 9.09 | Portsmouth, NH - Birdseye 9.10 | Portland, ME - SPACE 9.11 | Cambridge, MA - The Middle East 9.13 | Brooklyn, NY - Knitting Factory 9.14 | Washington, DC - Black Cat9.16 | Cincinnati, OH - MOTR Pub9.17 | Bloomington, IN - The Bishop 9.22 | Milwaukee, WI @ 88Nine Radio Milwaukee Presents at the Summerfest Grounds * 9.24 | Eau Claire, WI - The State Theater 10.13 | Hamburg, DE - Kleiner Donner10.14 | Berlin, DE - Privatclub10.15 | Munich, DE - Hauskonzerte.com10.16 | Offenbach, DE - Hafen 210.17 | Amsterdam, DE  - Paradiso10.19 | Paris, FR - Espace B10.21 | Brighton, UK - Green Door Store10.22 | Gateshead, UK - The Sage ^10.23 | Glasgow, UK - The Hug & Pint10.24 | Leeds, UK - Brudenell Social Club10.27 | London, UK - Moth Club10.28 | Bristol, UK - The Louisiana10.29 | Manchester, UK - The Ritz ^

Wovenhand streaming entire forthcoming album via Noisey

Wovenhand streaming entire forthcoming album via Noisey In-depth interview with frontman David Eugene Edwards with album stream    Hear & share Star Treatment album (Soundcloud)

Wovenhand are streaming their forthcoming album Star Treatment in its entirety ahead of release starting today via Noisey. Hear and share the album HERE. (Direct Soundcloud)
Star Treatment will be available on Sargent House worldwide -- excluding Europe, where it will be released by longtime Wovenhand label Glitterhouse Records --  on September 9th. Stereogum previously premiered the album track "Come Brave" HERE . The Onion AV Club also recently shared "The Hired Hand" HERE. And, Consequence of Sound hosted "Golden Blossom" HERE
The band embarks on an extensive European tour starting this month, with main support from Emma Ruth Rundle, also of the Sargent House family, on all shows except Helsinki and Reeperbahn Fest. Please see complete dates below.
The music of Wovenhand and songwriter/multi-instrumentalist David Eugene Edwards has always had an unparalleled intensity. Edwards' rich, billowing and emotive voice is always the driving force of his music, but it's catapulted by his spellbinding ability to transform instruments that many people might consider mundane relics - be it banjo, accordion, lesser-known folk instruments from around the world, or even an electric guitar - into devices of dark fury and poignant beauty.
From the apocalyptic revivification of antique Americana of Sixteen Horsepower in the 90s to the threadbare balladry of Wovenhand's early releases, Edwards' music has maintained its celestial heaviness as it evolved. But now in its current incarnation, Wovenhand is a band that fully expands that power with exacting and inventive skill. It's a sound so distinctive and compellingly crushing that even the heaviest of metal bands can't match.
Wovenhand's current lineup includes guitarist Chuck French, bassist Neil Keener (both of Planes Mistaken For Stars) and drummer Ordy Garrison, now joined by piano/synth player Matthew Smith (Crime & The City Solution). Star Treatment was recorded at Steve Albini's legendary Electrical Audio in Chicago with engineer Sanford Parker, who also helmed Wovenhand's 2014 album Refractory Obdurate
While Wovenhand ought to be a familiar name to anyone interested in forward-thinking music, the album title Star Treatment isn't a reference to our celebrity culture obsession. Rather, it's a clever reference to concepts of astrolatry, or humanity's enduring interest in the stars of the night sky.
"It's ethereal in its concept," Edwards explains. "There are many layers, as always. I've been paying attention to the stars in the sky and in literature, and it's a theme throughout the album." He adds, "There's more love song style on this in general, which is nice. The idea of what love is and how it's expressed and all these different atmospheres."
Star Treatment will be available worldwide excluding Europe on LP, CD and download via Sargent House on September 9th, 2016. WOVENHAND TOUR 2016:09/12   COLOGNE, DE @ Gebäude 9 *

HOUSE OF SOULS OUT SEPTEMBER 23 VIA YELLOW YEAR RECORDS

Austin's macabre-pop band Tele Novella will release their LP House of Souls September 23rd via Yellow Year Records. Yesterday, Lenny Letter premiered their video for single "Heavy Balloon," noting, "Tele Novella have a bittersweet sound, satisfyingly reminiscent of 1960s girl groups and crestfallen twee. Awash in tambourine and harmonies, their songs reveal the drama of figuring out what it means to be alive."
Speaking of the video, Natalie told Lenny Letter, "The whole video got put together because we all wanted to see Jason [Chronis, the band's bassist] dress up as Carl Sagan, because he talks and moves like him. [Laughs.] That's when all the other sci-fi references entered the scene, and then Lorelei Linklater [Boyhood] signed on to be our main alien. "

NPR All Songs Considered  first premiered "Heavy Balloon" and noted, "Inspired by the classic Velvet Underground song "Caroline Says," this track by the Austin-based band Tele Novella is going to make you so happy."

More About Tele Novella:
Tele Novella is an inspired macabre-pop band out of Austin, TX. They are dreamy, they are spooky, and they write real fucking songs. While one may detect the influence of the nocturnal jungles of Os Mutantes or the lapelled, knee-socked smarts of Belle and Sebastian, they have cobbled together a special kind of mineral all their own worth making room on the Table of Elements for. Earnest, yet sinister; Vampy, but sentimental. The precise recipe that goes into this concoction cannot be revealed, but it is a delightful snow globe of warm, colorful darkness.
In 2014, they won a contest for free recording time at Dub Narcotic Studios in Olympia, WA. This resulted in their first single, "Trouble in Paradise," that was later featured in the ABC television series Pretty Little Liars. Not long after that in 2015, their EP Cosmic Dial Tone was released on Los Angeles label Lollipop Records on the heels of a Wes Anderson tribute compilation (American Laundromat Records), to which they contributed a contagiously glad version of "Stephanie Says" by The Velvet Underground.
