Acclaimed Danish musician Oh Land, born Nanna Øland Fabricus, and director Kristian Levring (The Salvation) have teamed up with NPR for an exclusive look at the gorgeously haunting video for her song “Love You Better,” off her 2013 Federal Prism release, Wishbone .

Says Fabricus of the video: “In 2014 I had a role in a western film shooting in South Africa…I had the guts to ask [the director Kristian Levring] if he would do a music video for me, knowing that it was unlikely to happen. But he said promptly, ‘Yes, if I can pick the song myself.’
The video shoot was fun and challenging because it was sort of shot like stop motion. We gradually remove prosthetics and make up for me to get younger and younger. I was wearing 3D tracking dots in order for the animators to make the transitions seamless. It was 95% of the time in the makeup process and the rest was shooting, but I had the feeling we were doing something magical and unusual for a music video. Kristian Levring had the idea for the ‘reversed aging’. His daughter did the makeup and it was shot in his house in the north of Denmark by the sea. The whole atmosphere was very family oriented and all about the love of the arts and music and weird ideas.”

Known for her stellar arrangements, Oh Land will be performing on United Nations Dayat the UN Building in New York City on October 24, backed by a full symphony. Both the video and the song itself demonstrate the strange, unique, and intricate beauty of the word Oh Land creates with her music.

More on Oh Land:
Nanna Øland Fabricus, known to fans around the world as the artist Oh Land, came into the music scene in 2008 under less than conventional circumstances. When ten years of training and a budding career in ballet was abruptly ended by injury, a life in music began.

At the age of 22, Fabricus wrote and produced her first album Fauna, which was released to much critical acclaim. Having recorded most of the album by herself in her bedroom, Fabricus discovered an early knack for production. The process that Fabricus found in creating Fauna was foreshadowing what would come after. Fabricus has since released four studio albums and collaborated with renowned producers Dave Sitek, Dave McCracken and Dan Carey, amongst many others. As a writer she has worked with Sia, John Legend and Pharrell, to name a few.

Fabricus has spent the better part of the past five years touring the world in support of her albums, headlining tours, intermixed with supporting dates for such acts as Katy Perry and Sia. These albums have paved the way for a growing discography of hits, with “Sun of a Gun”, “White Nights”, fan favorite “Wolf & I”, “Renaissance Girls” and “Head Up High”, to name a few.

In recent years, Fabricus has “crossed over” into the classical music world, as well, playing with Lang Lang and Joshua Bell at Carnegie Hall and orchestrating whole concerts for the symphony orchestra in her native country of Denmark. Her most recent work is a 40 minute ballet for the Danish theatre “Pantomimeteatret” in Tivoli, Copenhagen, a collaboration with none other than the Queen of Denmark, Queen Margeret the Second. Fabricus has currently begun writing for her next international release that will follow the just-released video for “Love You Better”, directed by filmmaker Kristian Levring. The two had met when Fabricus starred in the role of Marie for his feature film, The Salvation.

Sara Jackson-Holman Streams "Too Late" Video Via BlackBook

SARA JACKSON-HOLMAN SHARES "TOO LATE" VIDEO
VIA BLACKBOOK

'DIDN'T GO TO THE PARTY' OUT NOW ON EXPUNGED RECORDSWATCH & SHARE: Sara Jackson-Holman - "Too Late"

“Too Late” is a haunting mix of gospel blues with visceral histrionics that recall Kate Bush." -BlackBook
"Layered beauties like 'Monsoon' pair gorgeously with R&B-tinged gems like 'Run.'" - The 405

"'Too Late' takes the listener on an emotional, personal journey through the lens of Jackson-Holman’s voice.- All Things Go

"Gorgeous string arrangements... a lush, groovy track"
 - Brooklyn VeganSara Jackson-Holman shared her new video for "Too Late" on BlackBook. The song is featured on her album 'Didn't Go To The Party' out now on Expunged Records.
I’m a feeler, I’m a dreamer, a monsoon….enigmatic, but magnetic too
These are some of the first lines from Sara Jackson-Holman’s new album, Didn’t Go To The Party, released on Sept 16 on Expunged Records. Opening track “Monsoon” is an exploration of self and an embracing of contradictions, a theme which echoes throughout this work of lush, timeless orchestral pop. A classically-trained pianist as well as a pop singer-songwriter, Sara weaves together her varied musical loves (including Kate Bush, Joni Mitchell, Serge Gainsbourg and Erik Satie) into a rich and playful fabric.

Didn’t Go To The Party is introspective and contemplative, a long-playing answer in stereo to questions like: “what kind of woman am I? “what kind of woman have I been?I crawled through love, blind
In part, Didn’t Go To The Party explores the arc of romantic relationships. Sara sings of the way that affections wax, and then wane, like cycles of the moon. One such relationship of inspiration was with her longtime collaborator in the studio. They worked on the album even after their relationship had ended, and, for certain, the twilight of that romance was entangled with the creative process. A new friendship for the former lovers was born alchemically out of this time in the recording studio, laying these songs about their own shared experience to tape.
 Didn’t go to the party
The title track speaks to the album’s creation and a facet of its creator. Sara grew up in the forested landscape of Eastern Oregon, and has always been comfortable with solitude. Her current home in Portland is a rustic cottage house, where she explored her inner life in a series of late night songwriting sessions. The process was a means of healing, and of assessing her spiritual growth as a newly single woman. Embracing the “loner” self was a vehicle for poetic revelation.
You’re the song my heart is singing
There is a subtle yet important coda to this narrative of solitude and singleness, found on the album’s lead single, “Run.” At first blush, it may sound lyrically like a traditional pop song. In actuality, it’s a love song for Sara’s female friends, the ones who supported her and inspired her through rocky emotional terrain. When she sings: if you want a partner in crime, I will be your girl, or more simply, this love is different, it’s with a distinctly feminine energy in mind.

Sara belongs to a close-knit friend group of female musicians, artists and makers, blossoming out of Portland’s thriving arts community. They’ve been known to throw elaborate costume parties and engage in all matter of practical magic, channeling everything from the opulent femininity of French Colonial fashion to the subversive feminism of the Czech New Wave. The element which unites their flights of fancy is always a sense of play, a joyful fount of creativity. The elegance and the honesty, which are both intrinsic to Didn’t Go To the Party, are dual products of this feminine understanding.

String arrangements from Jherek Bischoff (Xiu Xiu, Amanda Palmer) bolster the elegant and cinematic quality of Sara’s songwriting. Her heartrending pop songs are indeed fit for the screen, as she has already seen many placements on top television shows within the span of her young career (Grey’s Anatomy, Pretty Little Liars, Orange is the New Black, Bones, Castle).

The road ahead looks promising for this talented and thoughtful artist.DIDN'T GO TO THE PARTY - TRACKLISTING

"He’s written the score for new documentary Orange Sunshine which is about the Brotherhood of Eternal Love, a church formed in the early ’60s by a group of surfers/hippies in Orange County who wanted to change the world with psychedelic drugs and became the largest manufacturers of LSD in the United States. We’ve got the premiere of “Call My Name” from the soundtrack and it’s folky, soulful vibe, complete with the crackle of a dusty record, should work well in film."
-Brooklyn Vegan

"The movie is a compelling account of psychedelic discovery, distribution, and love - a true story from a fascinating moment in cultural history. Costa's accompanying soundtrack carries all the flavors of the movie's themes, along with his usual meticulous approach to craft." - Artist DirectArtist Direct has shared Matt Costa's video for "Call My Name", the first single from his upcoming soundtrack to the film 'Orange Sunshine'. When speaking about the track Costa had this to say, "The single from the film is called “Call My Name.” it is a soul style song with some nylon string guitar accompaniment. The film is centered around a group called the Brotherhood of Eternal Love, their mission was to turn the world on to spiritual enlightenment through the use of LSD. Working closely with Timothy Leary, The Brotherhood made a type of LSD called Orange Sunshine. "Call my Name" is a classic sounding love song but untraditional in a sense that it is referencing enlightenment brought on with the LSD that was spread throughout the world. Its refrain “I need your love” is a call to the Brotherhood of Eternal Love. "

An Evening of Orange Sunshine & Matt Costa:
Each night features a screening of the acclaimed film Orange Sunshine followed by a headlining performance of Matt Costa & band featuring songs from the film as well as from his entire catalogue."

'Orange Sunshine' is a documentary about  "a church formed in the early ’60s by a group of surfers/hippies in Orange County who wanted to change the world with psychedelic drugs and became the largest manufacturers of LSD in the United States." The soundtrack is out 11/11 on Varese Sarabande.
Like certain other Southern California songwriters before him, Matt Costa has drifted through a strange and varied life in music, pushed toward pop music at a young age, selling hundreds of thousands of records and touring the world on the strong back of a simple, direct, and freewheeling debut. In the last few years, Costa took heavy stock in his work, and made unexpected turns into more progressive and thoughtful territories. This new direction has found him wandering; an outlier between the worlds of his own development as an artist, modern Orange County, his former label Brushfire Records, and cutting through the center of a now hidden and older California mystique.
Prolific at every turn, Matt has taken on the aura of a classic California drifter, spinning records in the midnight hours of his local Laguna Beach radio station, writing by day cataclysmically varied music, from fingerpicked John Fahey-like numbers, to cut up poetry, to howlers harkening back to an other-worldly sound; complete with a range of writing invoking a Kinksian sensibility, early rock & roll- Eric Burdon and the Animals, Van Morrison’s Them, and the guitar playing and arrangements of Brian Jones.
The last years have been eventful ones. Born and raised in Laguna Beach, Costa met some filmmakers hard at work on a documentary entitled Orange Sunshine detailing the story of the Brotherhood of Eternal love; a coastal church centered on psychedelics who became the largest manufacturers and distributors of LSD in the United States. Matt composed the entire score, beginning to tap into the underlying myths and secrets of his hometown. The music stands on its own and this year sees the release of the film, to rave reviews at its premier at SXSW, and showings at Festivals in Sedona, Maui, San Francisco, and in October, the illustrious British Film Institute in London, among others.
Autumn 2016 will welcome the release of the Orange Sunshine Film Soundtrack on Varèse Sarabande Records, complete with a unique companion tour combining screenings of the film with a special performance by Matt Costa and his band. This soundtrack is a signpost to a new LP already far underway. Orange Sunshine’s music hints at a songwriter cutting through to something greater and stranger; an artist arriving at a new incarnation. “The end picture is yet to be discovered,” says Costa.Matt Costa – Orange Sunshine 2016 Tour dates

When two best friends start a band, songs get filled with inside jokes. In My Head takes the listener on a journey of Andreya Casablanca and Laura Lee's friendship, their life, and a step further into the world of Gurr.
Having met in an American Studies class in Berlin, and after spending time in the US together, the US West coast sound was an obvious influence on their music, but Andreya and Laura draw from a wide set of pop culture references and personal experiences for their debut album. How to deal with one's own ignorance (first single release Moby Dick), let yourself go and have nights that turn into mornings (Breathless), or deal with the loss of love through someone else's perspective (Yosemite). Instead of telling stories of how it was, the two friends want to create a world of characters, stories and feelings everyone can relate to − and everyone can tell in their head for themselves.
First Wave Gurrlcore they call their own genre, always with a slight and acknowledging nod to riot girl culture and yet stressing that they want to invent their own style − they pair straightforward garage rock tunes with more psychedelic and wave elements on their debut album. "We didn't start making music because of Kathleen Hanna," explains singer Andreya Casablanca. "Musically we were more influenced by bands like Gun Club, Echo & the Bunnymen, the B52s or classics like the Ramones and Beatles."
Recorded in Berlin's Funkhaus, the old now East German Radio House which is now a haven for artists and creatives, Andreya Casablanca and Laura Lee Jenkins leave the Riot Grrrl comparisons behind them and progress their sound initiated by a deep Organ sound and spring reverb... welcome to First Wave Gurrlcore

ABOUT JAPANESE BREAKFAST:A side project from her work as front woman of Philadelphia indie punk band Little Big League, Michelle Zauner released a tape in June 2013 under the solo moniker Japanese Breakfast. The tape was titled June and boasted thirty tracks written and recorded every day of the month. A stark deviation from Little Big League's guitar- based indie rock, it showcased Zauner's dark lyrics, unique vocals and inherent knack for pop melody.
Two bedroom pop cassettes later, Japanese Breakfast returns with its first full- fledged LP and vinyl release, Psychopomp. The album explores Zauner's experimental interests and hosts a wide range of sound: jarring anime samples, minimalist ballads, rhythms and synths reminiscent of Tango in the Night-era Fleetwood Mac paired with the moody intimacy of Mount Eerie. After the foundation of the album was built, Zauner enlisted Ned Eisenberg to coproduce and embellish the record. Eisenberg helped with the mixing and production of the album. Psychopomp revisits and revamps lo-fi tracks and adds chilling new songs to fall in love with.
