Today Girl Tears hit us with their new single "Panic Attack" from forthcoming album Woke Against The Tide that drops next week via Sinderlyn (home to Cymbals Eat Guitars, Fresh & Onlys, Homeshake). FLOOD debuted "Panic Attack" describing their sound, "semi-twanged swagger of X, but matched by the concentrated brevity of early Black Flag."
Walk Against The Tide is the the LA /OC punk trio's follow up to Tension. With it they have has mastered the art of the three-chord attack, delivering volatile blasts to the point of fury. Four tours and 100+ shows later, playing art spaces, houses, DiY venues, bars, barns, backyards, basements, and everything in between, Girl Tears has delivered a natural, confident progression from their debut.
Woke Against The Tide wrestles with themes of Love/Hate, Good/Evil - and in particular - the space between these polarizing ideas. There are hooks, melody and structure, but also a bit of chaos built on a more complex arrangement that's constantly shifting and evolving, much like the band themselves.

Hailing from Sweden, the place that has graced us with some of the best and most interesting contemporary musicians comes female artist Louise Lemón. Following live performances, critics raved about Louise- including one of the biggest Swedish national newspapers Dagens Nyheter, who called her the answer to future music.
Louise Lemón joins the ultra-growing power of females with attitude; sounding sonically similar to PJ Harvey,whilst also hints of The Dead Weather appear. Interestingly, Louise actually recorded her upcoming EP, Purge, in a cabin deep in the woods of Dalarna, and the presence of the eerie place is undeniably audible in her latest single, Thirst. The track, which was produced by Randall Dunn (Sunn O))), Thurston Moore), gets sent into darker territory, giving it that hypnotic edge when a scuzzy blend of guitars take over, reminding us of Dolores Haze. Whilst distorted, reverbed vocals have left comparisons to artists like Chelsea Wolfe.

Last month the band released a music video for "Across The Caves," the latest from their most recent album, The Big Fit. Rookie Magazine, who premiered the video and interviewed, said Skating Polly play a "captivating combination of saccharine vocals and traditional punk grime."

ABOUT SKATING POLLY:"Some music gets it. Some music doesn't get it. This gets it. This is fucking fantastic. I don't give a shit about their age. Either music gets it or it doesn't. And this gets it." -famed music critic Everett True, after hearing Skating Polly for the first time, April 2015. While still in middle school, Skating Polly recorded an album in their living room and called it, Taking Over the World. Today, it seems like they could actually do that. The band's latest effort, The Big Fit, is their most fully realized collection of head-bopping, not quite sugar-sweet pop music infused with visceral, distortion-drenched punk sounds. It's raw, infectious and inciting. It's real. Stepsisters Peyton Bighorse and Kelli Mayo describe their sound as "a little bit musically schizophrenic." Their songs tend to fluctuate in tone and intensity. A whisper. A scream. A piano ballad right next to a punk punch in the throat. It's all very "ugly pop," as they like to point out. "I love singing, and it's really all I ever wanted to do," explains Mayo. "One day, I realized I could make up my own songs and then discovered it was easy enough to make a sound with an instrument - even if I didn't know exactly how to play it. Peyton had always wanted to be in a band. I love and respect her and don't have such a connection with anyone else on the planet. Since she was my best friend in the world, it seemed like a fun experiment we should do together." The experiment began with both teaching themselves multiple instruments so they could switch back and forth, with one providing drums and backup vocals to songs primarily written by the other. "The only reason we learned instruments was to write songs," says Bighorse. And write songs they do. Skating Polly has a wealth of unreleased material, over 20 songs and considerably more if one counts 2 am cell phone recordings produced in the duo's shared bedroom. On their latest release, that mixture means the pop songs are more pop and the heavier songs are heavier than ever. The Big Fit is a more intensified version of showing someone your favorite record, or your favorite book, or your favorite painting," adds Bighorse. "Making this record has been like sharing a piece of ourselves that we've never really revealed before. Releasing it and having other people listen to what we created will be like letting listeners in on a real part of who we are." The Big Fit, which was produced by Kliph Scurlock (Gruff Rhys, Flaming Lips), was released on March 25, 2016 through Chap Stereo. UK's Kerrang! gave the album a glowing 4 star review and boasted that it was "from the very highest level of alt. rock goodness" and Paste Magazine added "The Big Fit is one of the strongest punk records in recent memory."

City Club debuted at #1 on the iTunes Alternative New Artist Chart and landed in the Top 10 Billboard Heatseeker Chart at #6. Entertainment Weekly states "Brooks Nielsen's graveled howl is arresting as ever, but it's the instrumentals that ultimately steal the show: clattering drums and funky guitars give way to scuzzy psychedelics. "I'll Be Around" is their most divergent track in recent memory, but it's also their most polished."

Fu states: "The Growlers have created this eclectic style that's all their own, yet there are no real rules in their world. The video captures some of the absurd fun of 70s-80s musical films like Little Shop of Horrors."The video's release comes just ahead of Beach Goth, The Growlers curated festival which takes place in the band's native Orange County on October 22-23. She's revelling in her "fuck you" years, exhilarated by the freedom of turning 30, unhinged from expectation and obligation. Burns' dark pop goth heart, so clearly evident on 2011's Polaris Prize nominated Mellow Drama and 2013's Midnight Mass, is just one aspect of Young Mopes' gleaming kaleidoscope of colors, textures, and influences. Young Mopes also represents a few other milestones: this is the first album that Burns recorded with her band, guitarist Darcy Hancock and drummer Ryan Peters, both formerly of Ladyhawk.

With an eclectic song catalog and category-defying organic/electronic sound, people are taking notice of ATC. Comprised of best friends Brandon Welchez and Charles Rowell, Crocodiles have earned their place as one of the United States’ most engaging, hardworking and consistent rock and roll bands of the past few years. Dreamless is the pair’s sixth LP, and is, at once, their most exploratory and focused release.
Whereas Crocodiles’ first two albums made their home amongst a stew of fuzzed-out psychedelia, and the following three albums explored Welchez and Rowell’s penchant for placing pop sensibilities against whirring guitars and barbed production, Dreamless sees the duo endeavoring on an artistic departure that positions their guitars in the backseat in favor of a more spacious, synthesizer and piano-driven sound.
“We’ve always been a guitar band and I think we just wanted to challenge ourselves and our aesthetic,” says Welchez. “It didn’t start as a conscious decision but within the first week Charlie’s mantra became ‘fuck guitars’. Only one song has zero guitar but in general we tried to find alternatives to fill that space.”
The title of the album works on both a literal and metaphorical level: “I suffered insomnia throughout the whole session. I was literally dreamless,” explains Welchez. “The past two years had been fraught with difficulty for us - relationship troubles, career woes, financial catastrophe, health issues,” he continues. “In that pessimistic mindset it was easy to feel as if the dream was over.”
The pair recorded the 10-track Dreamless in Mexico City over the course of 6 weeks. Having become something of a spiritual (and in the case of Welchez, literal) home to the duo, choosing D.F. as the location for recording allowed them to again hook-up with friend and occasional bandmate Martin Thulin (also a member of post-punks Exploded View ). Between them, the trio shared instrument duties, with Welchez and Rowell handling the lion’s share of guitar and bass, Thulin and Welchez the live drum work, and Thulin focusing largely on keys.
“Our relationship with Martin will serve as a pivotal point in our band’s history,” comments Rowell. “On this album Martin continued his efforts to help us take our songwriting and aesthetics to further reaches.”
Thulin’s work on Dreamless is in keeping with the exemplary production found on Crocodiles previous releases and reconciles the band’s realigned focus on keys with their experiments of often pairing down the instrumentation to allow lyrical sentiments and themes to cut through to the fore. It’s an approach that has paid off, enabling the band to take more risks, both artistically and emotionally.
“And you’ll burn and weep and suffer,” says the chilling spoken-word sample that opens Dreamless . “The sample is from a Christian preacher that we found over 15 years ago and used on the first 7” we ever did together when we were still teenagers” explains Brandon Welchez. “Back then we used it with a sense of humor, laughing at the whole ridiculous guilt trip vibe. But hearing it again in our apartment in Mexico City, within the context of the words we were singing, it took on a different air. It lost the humorous aspect and just seemed like a commentary on life.”
An unsettling insight certainly, but if Crocodiles did indeed have to burn, weep and suffer in order to write and record Dreamless , then it was damn well worth it.
