Swedish dream-pop duo  The Radio Dept  dropped their fourth album  Running Out Of Love  last week via Sweden’s Labrador Records.  It's their first album since the critically acclaimed success of 2010’s Clinging To A Scheme, which garnered praise fromConsequence of Sound, Pitchfork, and more. Running Out Of Love is an album about life in Sweden in 2016 moving in the wrong direction:  politically, intellectually, morally. It's about the impatience that turns into anger, hate and ultimately withdrawal and apathy when love for the world and our existence begins to falter. The band says of the LP:

“In the summer of 2014, ideas and a concept for Running Out Of Love started to come together and the single “Death To Fascism”, now too old to be included, was the first effort towards the new album. Later, more new songs started to appear. The court case is taken care of in “Occupied”, the Swedish weapon and arms industry in “Swedish Guns” and “We Got Game” is about the proud police tradition of protecting nazis and racists, whilst at the same time using brutal violence against opposing groups of protesters. Running Out Of Love has moulded itself into a rather dystopian album, mainly because it was created in a sense of deep frustration over the reactionary currents which characterize our time.”

The album features lead single “ Swedish Guns ” which quickly rose #1 HypeM and began charting on the Spotify Viral Chart and gaining wide critical praise, along with the recently released track “ We Got Game ”. In addition, the Malmö, Sweden based duo have announced North American Tour dates beginning Feb 14, 2017 in support of their politically-charged LP. The 20 date North American tour sees Johan Duncanson & Martin Carlberg return for their first stateside shows since the release of Clinging To A Scheme, appearing at New York City’s Bowery Ballroom, Washington DC’s Black Cat, Los Angeles’ El Rey Theatre, Boston’s Brighton Music Hall and many more.

Various NYC magicians participated in this unique VR/360 "immersive" video. Users will be able to watch a 360 video online via the Youtube player or on a VR headset via VR network Littlstar.

Nadya, founder of Russian punk outfit Pussy Riot has just released the femme posse-cut of the year "Straight Outta Vagina" for free via the Adult Swim Singles Program. One of the most successful and influential artists of her generation, Tori Amos is as much a force to be reckoned with today as when she made her debut as producer in 1996 on her third studio album, Boys for Pele. To celebrate the pivotal album’s 20-year anniversary, Rhino will release a deluxe edition that includes a newly remastered version of the original, along with a selection of B-sides, rare recordings, and four previously unreleased tracks.

Amos was so prolific writing Boys for Pele that a number of songs were left off the album and released as B-sides. Many of them can be found among the 21 bonus tracks that appear on  Boys For Pele: Deluxe Edition . Among the collection is rare b-side “Alamo”, a spiritual exploration of communication held together by Amos’ gentle, naturalistic vocal delivery and poetic lyrics. “ Alamo ” premiered with  NYLON today and is available to post/share  HERE .

An ambitious and uncompromising collection of songs about mythology (Pele was a Hawaiian volcano goddess), suppression and self-discovery, the record became one of her most successful, debuting at #2 on the album charts in both the U.S. and the U.K.  Boys For Pele: Deluxe Edition  will be available on November 18 as a 2-CD set ($19.98) and digitally. The influential U.K. band's first seven albums have been unavailable on vinyl for some time, but today Astralwerks announced plans to release limited edition colored vinyl of each on December 9, followed by standard black vinyl on December 23. The hand-numbered, limited edition colored vinyl will be available exclusively at U.S. indie retailers. These are available for pre-order now at Amoeba and at local record stores. Born In The Echoes  (2015), The Chemical Brothers' most recent album, is already available on vinyl.

Tele Novella today release their video for "Even Steven" off of their latest album House of Souls. Rookie, who recently chatted with front woman Natalie Ribbons about the band's love of horror movies and being a "Halloween band", premiered the video today.

They lean into their songs with an irresistible edge and total emotional connection and stay there. Sallie Fordis one of those artists. On her upcoming new album  Soul Sick , out on February 10, 2017 via Vanguard Records, Ford creates music that draws on all of her influences but still comes out her own. From the album's opening line "I woke up feeling sour on the sweetest summer day," the 11 tracks on the album chronicle Ford's journey through anxiety, insecurity, and depression. "This is a 'confessional' album. It's about struggling with my issues - some that I've overcome and some that I still carry around. I felt confused, down about life and unsure of myself," states Ford. "On these new songs, it felt good to write on one theme and from one place. All in all,  Soul Sick  has taught me a lot about myself and helped me to heal." That healing is captured throughout the music played on the album. With Mike Coykendall (M.  Following the summer release of her standout debut album  Fading  Lines on Heavenly Recordings and her recent US tour this past September and October supporting Nada Surf, Dutch musician Amber Arcades has shared a pop-fueled reinterpretation of Nick Drake’s Pink Moon track “Which Will”. Listen to it  here.   Trading in Drake’s understated emotional beauty for jangling dream-pop verve; Amber Arcades’ Annelotte de Graaf commands her catchy rendition all the while upholding the integrity of an artist she unquestionably respects. She elaborates on the process: "I'm a huge Nick Drake fan. There's something intangible and obscure about his work (and especially the melodies) that I love. I thought it would be interesting to examine how these mysterious melodies would function in a more upbeat musical environment. I like how it turned out to be quite a poppy tune but the melodies still add this layer of strangeness to it.”
Recorded at Strange Weather Studio in New York with producer Ben Greenberg (The Men, Beach Fossils, Destruction Unit),  Fading Lines  was inspired by time, continuity, coincidence and magic. Other inspirations include early-morning jetlag (‘Turning Light’) and an artist’s plans for a utopian city (‘Constant’s Dream’). Although this sounds dreamy in nature (and these songs do posses a seamless, ethereal quality), De Graaf’s dreams are not necessarily rooted in whimsy. In fact they have led to her working as a legal aide on UN war crime tribunals (she currently works in human rights law people who had fled Syria), to inviting strangers to share her Utrecht squat (which led to a friendship and later to her signing to Heavenly), and to spending her life savings on a flight to New York because that’s where she wanted to record her first album.
After researching producers and deciding to work with Greenberg (“the odd one out as he’d produced all this hardcore punk shit”), Annelotte was joined by Shane Butler and Keven Lareau of Quilt on guitar and bass, Jackson Pollis of Real Estate on drums, plus Meg Duffy on slide guitar on the eerie, clip-clopping “Apophenia”. They listened to “a lot of Suicide, Broadcast, Stereolab, Yo La Tengo, The Gun Club…” and worked on the songs that Annelotte had written at home in Utrecht."In New York everything came together beautifully,” says De Graaf. “The whole team, the producer and the band. It was a magical time - writing an album had been an abstract thing in my mind and recording it in New York had been a wild, surreal plan. It never really occurred to me that it would happen until I sat on the plane. I had this money in my savings account and I thought, I’m going to make an album.”
Right from woozy, soaring opener “Come With Me”, the album invites endless interpretations – or simply emotional and physical reactions of joy, loss, acceptance and “the billions of different views there are to this life and whatever we’re doing here”. The result is a dazzling and immersive collection of songs, proving Amber Arcades as an assured and exceptional new talent.
