Michael Kiwanuka Announces Rescheduled North American Tour; Snags 2 Brit Award Nominations

MICHAEL KIWANUKA ANNOUNCES RESCHEDULED NORTH AMERICAN TOUR

SNAGS TWO BRIT AWARD NOMINATIONS FOR ALBUM LOVE & HATE
Michael Kiwanuka is pleased (and relieved) to announce that he’ll be rescheduling his cancelled North American Tour from December of 2016. Kiwanuka who was suffering from vocal chord damage and tonsillitis has been cleared to play shows again. The tour begins May 18 at the Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles and includes Festival stops at Governors Ball and Bonnaroo Music Festival. It includes shows in some cities that weren’t on the December run including Washington DC, Montreal, Indianapolis, Atlanta and Nashville.

In addition, Michael was nominated for two BRIT Awards, for best Male Solo Artist and Album of the Year. The awards are given out on February 22. He’s also nominated for Best British Artist for the NME Awards and The Gilles Peterson Worldwide Award for Album of the Year.  The awards are the latest accolades for an album which has been lauded worldwide, Jon Pareles of the NY Times wrote “Michael Kiwanuka’s second album, ‘Love & Hate,’ is a sustained, stylized plunge into despair: plaints of isolation, doubt, lovelessness, racial injustice, longing, hopelessness and a certain resolve despite it all”, and NPR said “Kiwanuka's vocals are as tender as ever, yet laced with a heavy dose of attitude. This is full-throated soul with swagger.”

Love & Hate was recorded in Los Angeles and London produced by Grammy Award winning Brian Joseph Burton AKA Dangermouse and young up-and-coming producer Inflo. Check out title track 'Love & Hate' here. Honest, unabashed, and ambitious, this new record is Kiwanuka emerging from the emotional cocoon of his first album, ready to secure his position as one of the most exciting and renown talents or our time.

MARCH UK TOUR, SXSW  & NYC HEADLINING DATEANNOUNCEDAfter announcing his long awaited fourth album ‘ Sillion ’ is to be released March 24 onTransgressive Records; accalaimed English singer/songwriter Johnny Flynn now unveils the Simon Ryninks-directed video for first single “Raising The Dead.” [Watch Here] Embed code is below.
“Raising The Dead” is the first in a series of videos which will accompany Johnny's new album. It's about fixing possessions; all kinds of possessions. The videos for Sillion are part of a wider collaboration between Simon, Johnny and photographer Hanna-Katrina Jedrosz.
Sillion has grown episodically between Flynn’s commitments to acting, composing, and his young family. It’s an album about the sacredness of man’s endeavor to connect with the earth, while separated from it. It’s the sound of Flynn breathing in and breathing out.
There’s proving to be high demand for Johnny Flynn and The Sussex Wit’s recently unveiled March headline UK tour; the London show sold out in a few hours, the venue in Edinburgh has been upgraded, whilst all other dates are close to selling out. Johnny will also be performing solo shows at this year's SXSW Conference in Austin, Texas. Following, he'll play a headline show in NYC at Le Poisson Rouge. Watch this space for details!

Phebe Starr Announces EP Out 3/31 + Shares 1st Single "They Keep Telling Me"

PHEBE STARR
Announces Chronicles EP Out March 31stShares 1st Single “ They Keep Telling Me
 "Killer" – VICE's Noisey
“Translates devastating moments into resonating beauty” – Stereogum
“The comparisons to Lykke Li are not without warrant” – NYLON
“Her hypnotizing voice sings about becoming lost in dreams" – Interview Magazine
"An intergalactic phenomenon of rare delight" – Culture Collide
"You're about to seriously fall head over heels for Phebe Starr” – Neon Gold

Known for her unique blend of modern electronics, ethereal vocals, and pop-infused melodies, Australian starlet Phebe Starr announces her Chronicles EP set for release on March 31st. Today, she shares  The Keep Telling Me ” – a shimmering new single bolstered by the experimental touches of Swedish producer Fredrik Odesjo.  Driven by a militant beat and an insistent bassline, Phebe comments: “I wrote this track after the worst co-write I've had in my life. Two sexist jerks told me to sit in a room and shut up while they wrote a hit for me. It was humiliating and demoralised the purpose of creativity and the hard work I've put into creating a life filled with it. It’s horrible being treated as a stereotype or having to live up to one to be accepted. I wrote this song about my quiet rebellion from those expectations which seem to chase me through life.” Chronicles is a five track EP that ebbs and flows from vulnerability to boldness. It’s complicated, multi-dimensional, and at times, intriguingly off-kilter. A richly autobiographical EP, it retraces the fantastic journey of how she arrived to where she is now, and how she came to understand whom she wanted to be. Anchored by her critically acclaimed single “Feel My Love,” which garnered over two million streams and counting, Chronicles sees Phebe emerge with a career-defining work. Phebe Starr’s debut EP  Zero  released in 2014 and quickly gained comparisons to the likes of heavyweights Lykki LiFlorench Welch, and Sia.  Featuring hit single “Alone With You,” the EP garnered extensive radio play with Australia’s Triple J and saw her touring with Of Monsters And Men, The Paper Kites, and more. As she gears up for the release of Chronicles on March 31st, stay tuned for more!

LISTEN TO NOT EVEN HAPPINESS

Today singer-songwriter Julie Byrne, has released her anticipated sophomore album, Not Even Happiness via Ba Da Bing Records in North America and Basin Rock in Europe.
Not Even Happiness, is a more confident beast than her debut that adds atmospheric instrumentation and electronic flourishes to Byrne's unusual guitar tunings and fingerpicked melodies, moving the songs from the front-porch into subtle anthemia.
Julie Byrne is playing a Record Release Show tonight at Rough Trade NYC and has announced a string of east coast dates in February. Details below.

ABOUT JULIE BYRNE:Sometimes it can take years to find your calling. Not for Julie Byrne; whose power of lyrical expression and musical nous seems inborn.  Often what comes naturally cannot be driven by speed and time. Julie's second album, Not Even Happiness, has evolved at its own pace. It spans recollections of bustling roadside diners, the stars over the high desert, the aching weariness of change, the wildflowers of the California coast, and the irresolvable mysteries of love. Her new album vividly archives what would have otherwise been lost to the road, and in doing so, Byrne exhibits her extraordinarily innate musicality.
Some of the songs on Not Even Happiness took years of fine tuning to reach their fruition. If you asked her why the follow up to 2014's Rooms With Walls and Windows has taken so long, you'd be greeted with a bewildered expression melted into a smile - as though the strangest question had just been asked. "Writing comes from a natural process of change and growth. It took me up to this point to have the capacity to express my experience of the time in my life that these songs came from."
Julie Byrne has counted Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Chicago, Seattle, New Orleans and Northampton, Massachusetts as her transient homes in recent years.  For now, she's settled in New York City, moonlighting as a seasonal urban park ranger in Central Park. Whether witnessing the Pacific Northwest for the first time ('Melting Grid'), the morning sky in the mountains of Boulder ('Natural Blue'), or a journey fragrant with rose water; reading Frank O'Hara aloud from the passengers seat during a drive through the Utah desert into the rainforest of Washington State ('The Sea As It Glides'),Not Even Happiness is Julie's beguilingly ode to the fringes of life.
"The title of the album comes from a letter I wrote to a friend after a trip to Riis Park's 'The People's Beach', it was the first warm afternoon of the year. I walked alongside the Atlantic as the Earth came alive for the sun. There was a palpable sense of emergence to everything. I felt it in myself too, and remember thinking I would trade that feeling for nothing...not even happiness."
