Amber Arcades Debut New Track "It Changes" || Out Now On Heavenly Recordings
Amber Arcades Debut New Track “It Changes” On Gorilla vs. Bear
Out Now On Heavenly Recordings
Following the summer release of her standout debut album Fading Lines on Heavenly Recordings and her recent US tour this past September and October supporting Nada Surf, Dutch musician Amber Arcades is pleased to debut a spirited and propulsive new track “It Changes” on Gorilla vs. Bear. Of the track’s motivation, Annelotte de Graaf explains: “Everything changes, all the time. You think that when starting something new you can kinda tell which way it will go, but you never do. I always try to aim for constancy and stability but things always get messier than I foresaw. And hey, maybe that’s actually what makes it worthwhile.” News of a new Amber Arcades EP is forthcoming.
Recorded at Strange Weather Studio in New York with producer Ben Greenberg (The Men, Beach Fossils, Destruction Unit), Fading Lines was inspired by time, continuity, coincidence and magic. Other inspirations include early-morning jetlag (‘Turning Light’) and an artist’s plans for a utopian city (‘Constant’s Dream’). Although this sounds dreamy in nature (and these songs do posses a seamless, ethereal quality), De Graaf’s dreams are not necessarily rooted in whimsy. In fact they have led to her working as a legal aide on UN war crime tribunals (she currently works in human rights law people who had fled Syria), to inviting strangers to share her Utrecht squat (which led to a friendship and later to her signing to Heavenly), and to spending her life savings on a flight to New York because that’s where she wanted to record her first album.
After researching producers and deciding to work with Greenberg (“the odd one out as he’d produced all this hardcore punk shit”), Annelotte was joined by Shane Butler and Keven Lareau of Quilt on guitar and bass, Jackson Pollis of Real Estate on drums, plus Meg Duffy on slide guitar on the eerie, clip-clopping “Apophenia”. They listened to “a lot of Suicide, Broadcast, Stereolab, Yo La Tengo, The Gun Club…” and worked on the songs that Annelotte had written at home in Utrecht."In New York everything came together beautifully,” says De Graaf. “The whole team, the producer and the band. It was a magical time - writing an album had been an abstract thing in my mind and recording it in New York had been a wild, surreal plan. It never really occurred to me that it would happen until I sat on the plane. I had this money in my savings account and I thought, I’m going to make an album.”
Right from woozy, soaring opener “Come With Me”, the album invites endless interpretations – or simply emotional and physical reactions of joy, loss, acceptance and “the billions of different views there are to this life and whatever we’re doing here”. The result is a dazzling and immersive collection of songs, proving Amber Arcades as an assured and exceptional new talent.
Praise for Amber Arcades:“A blissful, Stereolab-influenced gem” – Gorilla vs. Bear"Incandescent glimmer." – Stereogum"Amber Arcades will pull you under her spell" – Consequence of Sound"What a damn fine thing it is - as suitable for sleety January days as it is balmy festival mornings." – Noisey“Swirling guitars intertwine tones as echoey vocals hypnotize the listener.” – Indie Shuffle

Special guests The Avalanches and Broods will open on select dates. Tickets will go on sale February 10 for all shows except Los Angeles, which will be available beginning February 17. Empire Of The Sun will also return to Coachella this year, performing on April 14 and 21. See below for itinerary.Rolling Stone hailed the alt-electro pioneers' 2014 Coachella performance as one of the "50 Best Things We Saw at Coachella." The Los Angeles Times said, "Empire Of The Sun delivered a high-octane performance that stands out...by virtue of its theatricality, pomp and circumstance. Empire Of The Sun brought an unusual level of showmanship to the Sahara Tent with a troupe of synchronized dancers decked out in feathered costumes, glow-in-the-dark instruments and an eye-popping laser light show."Empire Of The Sun is touring in support of its new album,
Two Vines
, which is now available everywhere, including iTunes, Spotify and Amazon. It debuted at No. 1 onBillboard's Top Dance/Electronic Albums Chart and in the Top 10 of the Alternative Albums chart.Fans can view Empire Of The Sun performing the lead single, "High And Low,"live at the historic Capitol Records Tower in Hollywood in a new video, which can be seenHERE. Stereogum praised the track as a "slow-building slice of euphoria with big drums, grand synths, and swishing ambient sweeps." It became a Top 15 hit at Alternative radio and has more than 15 million streams on Spotify.Recorded in Hawaii and Los Angeles,
Two Vines
was co-produced by Empire Of The Sun and Peter Mayes (Sia, The Killers, Mika),alongside long-term collaborator,Donnie Sloan (Midnight To Monaco). Pianist/arranger Henry Hey and bassist Tim Lefebvre, from David Bowie's Blackstar band, feature heavily on the album. Other collaborators include Wendy Melvoin from Prince's Revolution and Fleetwood Macguitarist/vocalist Lindsey Buckingham.

Entertainment Weekly observed, "One thing's for sure: no matter what style they're performing, Empire of the Sun knows how to make people move, and their third studio set,Two Vines, is no exception. With glistening pop tracks like 'High and Low' and 'Way to Go,' the pair hasn't strayed far from the ethereal, echoey sound of singles that launched them to international success in the first place, like 'Walking on a Dream' and 'Alive." DIY Magazinesaid, "the band continues to make glossy retro-futurist pop, creating a world of synthesizers and keyboards that feels both primeval and modern at once." AllMusic hailed it as "impressive," praising the band's "mastery of modern pop sounds [and] ability to craft melodies that have a timeless quality." Manny Marroquin's new remix of " Walking On A Dream" closes out Two Vines . " Walking On A Dream"originally appeared on the band's 2008 debut album of the same name. In early 2016, the eight-year-old single rocketed to the top of the radio and Shazam charts after it was heard in Honda's "The Dreamer" commercial. The spot now ranks as the most Shazamed U.S. television commercial ever. With more than 125 million streams,"Walking On A Dream" became a global smash hit. “Know Your Rights,” Celebrate International Clash Day
[image error] FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
“Know Your Rights,” Celebrate International Clash Day
Cities of Austin, San Francisco, Seattle, Tucson, Vancouver B.C., Washington D.C. and more honor the music and message of The Clash
Seattle – February 6, 2017 Tomorrow, February 7th, the world will band together to celebrate the music and message of The Clash by observing the fifth annualInternational Clash Day. A host of city and state governments will join radio stations from around the globe to acknowledge and celebrate the ongoing relevance of The Clash and their contributions to our cultural fabric.
“Know Your Rights,” the first single from[image error]The Clash album Combat Rock, is a biting take on the civil rights of the poor and disenfranchised. Celebrating the music and the message of The Clash is a way to stand up for those dispossessed of power and to revolt against that which would divide us. As Joe Strummer said, the future is unwritten and so it is up to all of us to write it. So, on February 7th, the music of The Clash will serve as the soundtrack to the hard work, resolve and commitment to upholding the values of a free society and an inclusive world.
“The message of The Clash, so influenced by the international sounds they grew up with, is both powerful and uplifting especially now in this time of struggle,” said KEXP Morning Show host and International Clash Day originator John Richards. “The Clash represent what KEXP is all about - music, rebellion, and pushing boundaries. KEXP is infused by international sounds, songs of protest and believe strongly in the power of the airwaves to affect change. That is why we are focusing on these three important pillars throughout the day. KEXP invites everyone to join us in celebrating this inclusive ‘public service announcement, with guitars.’”
The legacy of Joe Strummer and The Clash continues to be honored by the work of The Joe Strummer Foundation, which gives opportunities to musicians and support to projects around the world that create empowerment through music.
"Now, more than ever, we need to stand united and not be divided. It’s for this reason that we support International Clash Day,” said Steve Mullen of the Joe Strummer Foundation. “Anyone with a modicum of humanity can appreciate The Clash and the impact they had on the world. During the late 70s and early 80s they definitely earned the slogan ‘The Only Band That Matters’. Back then, political and social differences were being pushed to the extreme. And now the same is happening in many parts of the world, except this time we have social media to amplify & confuse the truth. International Clash Day esures new generations are aware that the band, through Joe’s snarling lyrics, called out the conspirators and united the people to stand up and be counted. As Joe Strummer once said: ‘Without people, you’re nothing’ and never a true enough phrase has been spoken."
Mayors and distinguished officials from the cities of Austin, Ithaca (NY), Kent (OH), San Francisco, Seattle, Tucson, Vancouver B.C. (Canada), Bridgwater (UK) and Washington D.C. alongside the governor of the State of Washington all have proclaimed February 7th as International Clash Day. These local governments all chose to celebrate The Clash and the message behind their music. Additionally, cities worldwide, including Austin, Tucson, Bridgwater (UK), Prague (CR), and Washington D.C., will host live events and performances commemorate the day.
Over 20 radio stations from across the United States will join stations from Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, and the U.K. in dedicating special programming to The Clash.
KEXP will honor February 7th with twelve hours of the music that inspired the band, and in turn they inspired, and how protest was central to their message of hope and change. The day’s programming, which begins at 6:00 a.m. PST, will also include the music Joe Strummer loved via his BBC Radio Program, London Calling, and throughout the day listeners will hear from Jon Langford of The Mekons, Roger Miller of Mission of Burma, Captain Sensible of The Damned, The Hold Steady's Craig Finn, Seattle musicians Kim Thayil (Soundgarden) and Tad, American Wrestlers and many more.

BOX SET OUT MARCH 3rd
ROUGH TRADE ALBUM OF THE MONTH
“born of a God-fearing Southern tension, rich with romance and mystery” – Austin Chronicle
“ One of the most epic musical journeys ever committed to tape ” 10* - DROWNED IN SOUND
“The best band in the whole damn land” releases the definitive version of their seminal double concept album digitally today, and not a minute too soon.
With rejuvenated artwork, an homage to the Texas-based graphics design studio Pen & Pixel, The Texas-Jerusalem Crossroads will be available on double red and blue colored vinyl and 2CD crucifix packaging on February 17, 2017. It will also be available as a deluxe 4-piece vinyl box set with foil blocking, limited to 1000 copies on March 3, 2017.
The box set includes the original and new mix of the album, the first EP (available for the first time on vinyl), the legendary 2001 Peel session (previously unreleased) as well as a large format photo and lyric book and a digital copy of all the audio.
The Texas-Jerusalem Crossroads is Rough Trade’s Album of the Month in February.
Watch the film that introduced Lift To Experience to the world, with interviews and footage from Denton, TX created for the original 2001 release HERE .
In 2016, fresh from their reunion at the Royal Festival Hall, as part of Guy Garvey’s Meltdown festival, the band returned to the original Texas studio - The Echo Lab in Denton County - where their one and only album release was recorded 15 years previously and created a new mix of the album with engineer Matt Pence.
Josh T. Pearson explains, “We went back to the studio, neck deep in the heart of Texas, where Lift recorded The Texas-Jerusalem Crossroads - remixing the album the way it should have been mixed originally. It's good to have our balls back after years spent being castrated.”
Lift To Experience formed in Denton, Texas, at the end of the last millennium by Josh T. Pearson, Andy Reginald Young and Josh 'Bear' Browning. Their rise was fast and their reign was short. Following the release of their long-form masterpiece, the band imploded at the peak of their career due to a series of cruel tragedies. In this short time, however, Lift To Experience achieved high critical acclaim and were so beloved by John Peel that he invited them to record three Peel sessions in just five months, and the band were included in the Best 125 Peel Sessions of all time.

ROUGH TRADE ALBUM OF THE MONTH
