Robyn Hitchcock shares new video; album out next week

ROBYN HITCHCOCK RELEASES NEW VIDEO FOR"RAYMOND AND THE WIRES" NEW, SELF-TITLED, ALBUM OUT FRIDAY APRIL 21 ON TOUR NOW ALONGSIDE THE PSYCHEDELIC FURS
" An inventive, erudite musical world."-Salon "These days, Hitchcock remains a fearless solo practitioner, gray-haired but still lithe, a man who seems to defy time as he weaves his relentlessly remarkable narratives."-Paste (New York, NY) Yep Roc recording artist Robyn Hitchcock continues to celebrate the April 21strelease of his self-titled new album on Yep Roc, this time with the unveiling of his new video for the song "Raymond & The Wires. Getting its premiere via Salon over the weekend, the clip pulls together imagery from Hitchcock's present and past as homage to his dad, the science fiction writer and cartoonist Raymond Hitchcock. The song is perhaps the most personal song on ROBYN HITCHCOCK, possibly the most explicitly personal one in his 40-year songbook. An evocative ode to memory and progress, "Raymond & The Wires" sees Hitchcock peering back through the fog of time to examine the still-impactful influences of trains, trams, and trolleys and his late father. "This video is a collage of years and Hitchcocks, assembled by Jeremy Dylan from archive trolleybus footage; from my family's home movies; and from film he shot of me recently," says Hitchcock. "I'm singing the song on a tram in Melbourne, Australia about a trolleybus ride I took with my late father Raymond in Reading, England in 1964. In these clips Raymond, resplendent in early 1970s porno moustache, is younger than the present-day me is now. My current self is also in there perving over some beautiful vintage trams in San Francisco. There's a glimpse of 13- year-old me stepping out of a boat to greet my sister Fleur, who now in later life is an author and incidentally supplied Jeremy with the old family film. And 39-year-old me peers for a second from a weeping elm tree at Raymond's wake in 1992. His favourite folk band, the Yetties from the West of England, gave us all a free show - what a night! Raymond liked a nice tune. This would probably have embarrassed him, given what a distant English family we were. But his spirit loves acknowledgement, I like to think: and I'm sure he lives through me as fully as any ghost. On ya, dad!" Hailed by Uncut as "the psych maverick's loudest, liveliest album in decades," ROBYN HITCHCOCKis available now for pre-order, with all digital pre-orders accompanied by instant downloads of the metamorphic first single, "I Want To Tell You About What I Want," album highlight, "Mad Shelley's Letterbox," and new single "Raymond and The Wires."  A very special ROBYN HITCHCOCK bundle featuring an exclusive poster and t-shirt is also on offer at the Yep Roc Store.    Hitchcock recently performed at Knoxville, TN's Big Ears Festival and is currently on tour alongside old pals The Psychedelic Furs. He has also confirmed a rare Los Angeles-area full-band show set for West Hollywood's historic Troubadour on May 3rd. A number of other festival appearances are also scheduled, including Sonoma, CA's Huichica Music Festival (June 9th) and Happy Valley, OR's Pickathon 2017 (August 3rd-6th). "7-inches For Planned Parenthood" - Featuring Contributions from Björk, Common, Foo Fighters, John Legend, Margaret Atwood, Nico Muhly, Shepard Fairey & More!

Standing with Planned Parenthood: Members of Creative Community Announce   7-inches for Planned Parenthood
7" Vinyl Series Features Contributions from Björk, Common, Foo Fighters, John Legend,  Margaret Atwood, Nico Muhly, Shepard Fairey & More
PP cover artZach Galifianakis, St. Vincent and John Legend Show Their Love for Planned Parenthood In Exclusive Video Short Directed By Trent O'Donnell And Edited By Kevin Krupitzer
(via Youtube)
[LOS ANGELES, CA] Members of the creative community announced 7-inches for Planned Parenthood, a curated series of 7-inch vinyl records and digital downloads to benefit Planned Parenthood. The project comprises contributions from acclaimed creative minds who stand with Planned Parenthood and its patients (see below for a full list of participants).  7-inches for Planned Parenthood will be released in batches digitally in the coming weeks, and will be made available for pre-order in its entirety as a vinyl box set. Each single will include a unique piece of artwork accompanying two sides of unique music, comedy or spoken word, many of which are given to Planned Parenthood, which provides reproductive health care to 2.5 million women, men, and young people each year.
The creative collective behind 7-inches for Planned Parenthood states:
Lawmakers with extreme views are working hard to shut down Planned Parenthood. If they succeed, millions of Americans will lose access to basic health services, including STD testing and treatment, birth control, and life-saving cancer screenings.
7-inches for Planned Parenthood is a response to this threat. This curated series of 7-inch vinyl records is being made by a group of people who believe that access to health care is a public good that should be fiercely protected. Do we know there's a joke in the name? We do. We hope the title evokes the rich history of 7-inch vinyl records as a medium for protest music and resistance.
Planned Parenthood will receive 100% of the proceeds from the sale of this 7-inch box set and streaming listens.  We see this initiative as the start of something bigger, and hope it will inspire both contributors and listeners to continue to seek out ways to stand with Planned Parenthood and other institutions that are so vital to us all.
In addition to supporting 7-inches for Planned Parenthood  people can also visit IStandWithPP.org to find ways to get involved locally, contact their Senator and urge them to stand with Planned Parenthood, show their support for Planned Parenthood on social media using the hashtag #IStandWithPP,  and share how Planned Parenthood has helped you.

EXPLOSIONS ADD FALL DATES TO ONGOING US TOUR BAND RECENTLY RELEASED STUNNING ANIMATED SHORT FILM "THE ECSTATICS," WATCH HERE:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iOwOUvdmsn8 photo by Nick Simonite  Texas-based instrumental experimentalistsExplosions in the Sky have added another run of North American dates to their ongoing tour in support of The Wilderness , far and away their most ambitious and accomplished record yet. The new dates focus on the western portion of the country, a fitting complement to their ongoing eastern US tour, and include a performance at Los Angeles's storiedGreek Theatre - full dates below. The live shows forThe Wilderness to date have reflected the aggressively modern and forward-thinking approach of the band's current chapter, both musically and visually, consequently selling out the biggest venues of their storied career. The new dates arrive on the heels of the recent release of "The Ecstatics," the first music video fromThe Wilderness. The short film is a stunning stop-motion animation clip by directorHayley Morris, who Creators Project lauded for her unique talent for "turning her static paper sculptures into expressive and mesmerizing video graphics." Morris elaborated on the meticulous animation process via an interview with Fast Company , who described the short film as "an abstract odyssey into the nether regions of the mind."   READ ABOUT THE MAKING OF "THE ECSTATICS" AT FAST COMPANY:https://www.fastcompany.com/3069272/after-18-years-explosions-in-the-sky-just-accomplished-a-rare-feat-a-music-video  WATCH A CAPTIVATING BEHIND THE SCENES CLIP HEREhttps://vimeo.com/210437073  LISTEN TO THE WILDERNESS HEREhttps://explosionsinthesky.bandcamp.com/album/the-wilderness   SELECT PRESS QUOTES "This wasn't just a gig. BABY IN VAIN tour with PINS + drop new track

BABY IN VAIN ON TOUR WITH PINS
+SHARE NEW SONG "TRANSCENDENT":YouTube + DIY
OFF FORTHCOMING ALBUM OUT LATE 2017Credit: Nikolaj ThaningWebsite | Facebook | Twitter |

Copenhagen's Baby In Vain just released "Transcendent," their first new track since their 2016 EP For The Kids. They also kick off a UK tour with PINS today, all dates below.
"Transcendent' is a darkly foreboding introduction to the band's new material capturing "how anxiety consumes you and leaves no room for rational thinking or any other emotions..." Featuring their ice-cool approach to garage-rock, the song is one of the most direct and commanding songs they've released to date. It's the first single from the trio's full-length record due for release later this year on Partisan Records.
Listen to Baby In Vain's 'Transcendent' now on YouTube
Formed while still at school, Lola Hammerich (vocals/guitar), Andrea Thuesen (vocals/guitar) and Benedicte Pierleoni (drums) have grown to become one of Scandinavia's most compelling live acts. On stage they are unpredictable, raw and intense while on record, they continually push the boundaries of whatever genre they experiment with. Despite the minimal set up of just two guitars and drums, Baby In Vain make riff heavy anthems ready to fill stadiums.

"... like a visceral combination of Sleater Kinney, Babes in Toyland, and Queens of the Stone Age with boss-ass results" --Vice Noisey

"...a tightly-wound, post-hardcore song that sounds like someone crawling through the trenches of a depressive episode" --Stereogum
"What might sound steeped in nostalgia is instead breathlessly pointing forwards" --DIY
"Drawing parallels with the White Stripes seems too easy; both swaddle muddy blues riffs in howling distortion without the help of a bassist. To do so, though, would blindly miss Baby in Vain's inventive edge and a more ominous air than Jack White could ever wish for. " --Impose

Meredith Monk's Groundbreaking 1971 Debut LP 'Key'

Meredith Monk's Groundbreaking 1971 Debut LP 'Key', Reissued by Tompkins Square for Record Store Day - April 22, 2017

San Francisco's Tompkins Square label is proud to announce the reissue of Meredith Monk's 1971 debut LP, Key. Composer, singer, director/choreographer, creator of new opera, musical theater works, films and installations, Meredith Monk is one of the most unique and influential artists of our time. Awarded a National Medal of Arts by President Obama in 2015, Monk has blazed her own influential trail through music and movement over the past 50 years. Pitchfork noted in a recent review of her latest ECM release, 'On Behalf of Nature': "Meredith Monk's influence as a singer and composer extends through Björk, Joanna Newsom and beyond." 'Key' contains Monk's earliest compositions for voice, composed and performed from 1967-1970. In her words: "In 'Key' I wanted to create a constantly shifting ambience. Each song dealt with a different vocal character, landscape, technical concern or emotional quality. I was trying for a visceral, kinetic song form that had the abstract qualities of a painting or a dance. I knew that I didn't want to set music to a text; for me, the voice itself was a language which seemed to speak more eloquently than words. I chose certain phonemes for their particular sound qualities. In a sense, each song became a world in itself with its own timbre, texture and impulse."  The Tompkins Square reissue faithfully reproduces the original 1971 LP on Increase Records, with textured cover and original insert images and notes, exclusively released in a limited edition for Record Store Day - April 22, 2017.

LP - TSQ5371 / Tompkins Square is distributed by INgrooves and Revolver in North America, Cargo UK for Europe.

ADULT. Shares "We Chase the Sound" Video Feat. Shannon Funchess, US / UK Tour Dates Announced

ADULT.
WATCH THE VIDEO FOR
“WE CHASE THE SOUND”
FEAT. SHANNON FUNCHESS

DETROIT HOUSE GUESTS – NEW ALBUM OUT NOW
WITH COLLABORATIONS FROM DOUGLAS J MCCARTHY, MICHAEL GIRA, SHANNON FUNCHESS & MORE

US AND UK TOUR DATES ANNOUNCED[image error]Photo credit: N Kuperus"richer and stranger than anything they've done before” – PITCHFORK
"exhibits the astonishing breadth of their creative purview” – BLACKBOOK
ADULT. (Detroit’s Nicola Kuperus and Adam Lee Miller) have unveiled the video for "We Chase The Sound," featuring Shannon Funchess of Light Asylum.

Watch it  HERE .

Filmed and edited by ADULT., the video features the wearable sculptures of Detroit designer Levon Millross.

ADULT. explain the concept of the video, “How do you visually represent sound? This was our main challenge.  We concluded the most effective way to represent sound was by means of light.  This then prompted us to invite Levon Millross to showcase his incredible wearable sculptures.  Levon's work embodies sound.  It is created out of sound, so it was the perfect fit.” They expand, “This video reflects the space between art and life.  It has an ephemeral quality, which made us instantly think of the work of Jack Smith, specifically his film "Flaming Creatures." There is a shared sense of rhythmic power, a placeless and timeless nature, a rawness, which is filled with pulsating, ambiguously gendered, creatures.  We find that just when you feel exhausted from the constant strobe and relentless bass, there is a compulsion to watch it all over and over again.”

ADULT. embark on a tour of North America in May / June and have announced a series of European dates to follow. Full details below.

Detroit House Guests  is a collaborative project conceived by ADULT. Based on the visual artist residency model, each musician came to ADULT.’s studio for a three week period with the parameter that they all live, work and collaborate together. The result - a total anthropological sound experiment and a full-length album.

The album features collaborations with a whole host of musicians and artists – Douglas J McCarthy from Nitzer Ebb, Michael Gira from Swans, Shannon Funchess from Light Asylum, Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe aka Lichens, Austrian thereminist Dorit Chrysler and multidisciplinary artist Lun*na Menoh.

ADULT. are the Detroit duo Nicola Kuperus and Adam Lee Miller. They played their first live show together in Germany in 1997 under the name Artificial Material. In early '98 they released their first 12" under the moniker Plasma Co. Later that year, they released their first 12" under the name ADULT. Currently, they have released six albums and 19 EPs or singles on Ghostly International, Thrill Jockey and Clone Records, as well as on their own label Ersatz Audio, (which currently has over 40 releases since it was founded in '95). They have remixed over 20 acts as well, including Tuxedomoon, John Foxx, Death in Vegas and Pet Shop Boys (for Moog Music).

Kuperus and Miller also make sculpture, paintings, films, photographs, performances, videos and installations. They strive to intersect the lines between art and audio and have exhibited their work at institutions such as the Austrian Cultural Forum (NY), Mattress Factory (Pittsburgh), Detroit Institute of Arts (Detroit), MOMAS (Saitama, Japan), and Centre d'art contemporain de Meymac (FR). They have shown their film The Three Grace(s) triptych at spaces such as Anthology Film Archives (NY), Distrital Film Festival (Mexico City), and Grey Area for Art and Technology (SF). Preservation Hall Jazz Band Invited to Support Beck at Red Rocks + New Video + Album Out 4/21

Preservation Hall Jazz Band Invited to Support Beck
at Red Rocks

Watch + Share New Video for “Santiago”  Here

New Album So It Is Out April 21 via Legacy Recordings

Preservation Hall Jazz Band have announced a special performance with Beck at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado on July 11, 2017. Tickets go on sale April 14 and will be available here.

“We're looking forward to joining our pal Beck at Red Rocks!” says bandleader/composer/bassist Ben Jaffe. “Definitely wear your comfy shoes! It's going to be a dance party from the go!”

Additionally, PHJB have released their new video for the song “Santiago,” the first single from their new album  So It Is , out April 21 via Legacy Recordings. Watch and share the video for “Santiago” here and pre-order So It Is here.

So It Is  finds the classic PHJB sound invigorated by a number of fresh influences, not least among them the band’s 2015 life-changing trip to Cuba.

“In Cuba, all of a sudden we were face to face with our musical counterparts,” says Ben Jaffe. "There’s been a connection between Cuba and New Orleans since day one - we’re family. A gigantic light bulb went off and we realized that New Orleans music is not just a thing by itself; it’s part of something much bigger. It was almost like having a religious epiphany.”

Producer David Sitek, a founder of art rock innovators TV on the Radio who has helmed projects by Kelis, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Santigold among others, offered both a keen modern perspective and a profound respect for the band’s storied history. Upon arriving in New Orleans to meet with the band, Sitek recalls he and Jaffe accidentally stumbling into one of the city’s famed second-line parades. “I was struck by the visceral energy of the live music all around, this spontaneous joy, everything so immediate,” he says. “I knew I had to make sure that feeling came out of the studio. It needed to be alive. It needed to sound dangerous.”

The music on So It Is, penned largely by Jaffe and 84 year-old saxophonist Charlie Gabriel in collaboration with the entire PHJB, stirs together that variety of influences like classic New Orleans cuisine. Longtime members Jaffe, Gabriel, Clint Maedgen and Ronell Johnson have been joined over the past 18 months by Walter Harris, Branden Lewis and Kyle Roussel, and the new blood has hastened the journey into new musical territory. Inspired by that journey and reinvigorated by the post-Katrina rebuilding of their beloved home city, PHJB are redefining what New Orleans music means in 2017 by tapping into a sonic continuum that stretches back to the city’s Afro-Cuban roots, through its common ancestry with the Afrobeat of Fela Kuti and the Fire Music ofPharoah Sanders and John Coltrane, and forward to cutting-edge artists with whom the PHJB have shared festival stages from Coachella to Newport, including legends like Stevie Wonder, Elvis Costello and the Grateful Dead and modern giants like My Morning Jacket, Arcade Fire and the Black Keys.
