BARRY ADAMSON EP 'LOVE SICK DICK' OUT THIS FRIDAY ON CENTRAL CONTROL / UK TOUR KICKS OFF APRIL 19TH

BARRY ADAMSONNEW SIX TRACK EPLOVE SICK DICKOUT APRIL 14TH  Pre-order    "Things start with a zap and a pop, as Adamson launches into the dark and claustrophobic drum heavy jazz of “I Got Clothes”, while “On Golden Square” is an injection of laidback, old school soul with a sunny and slightly whoozy groove...'One Hot Mess' brings raucous electronica with shades of Daft Punk’s lo-fi funk between Adamson’s more epic choruses."while “People Like Us” keeps the party going with its psychedelic soul sounds and baggy groove. “Sweet Misery”,however, sees the paranoia return amid a sweet electro-funk groove, a paranoia that only intensifies for “They Walk Among Us” as Dick tries to prise off the mask of civilised behaviour to get a look at the grubby reality that it hides." The Arts Desk "...They Walk Among Us” is a sultry and propulsive track in which Adamson’s husky baritone crooning is paired with a dance floor-friendly production featuring stomping, tweeter and woofer rocking beats, layers of shimmering arpeggio synths, ominously swirling electronics, a sinuous bass line and an infectious, ear worm of a hook to create a song that evokes the murkily foreboding, late night prowl of someone looking for action while being remarkably cinematic — as though it could easily be part of a soundtrack of a psychological horror film." Joy Of Violent Movement  EP trailer  Mercury Prize-nominated Barry Adamson releases his brand new six track special EP,  LOVE SICK DICK , available on vinyl, CD and download this Friday, April 14thLOVE SICK DICK has the superb combination of the classic Adamson we've all come to revel in plus some fresh new twists, as he takes us on a journey and probes the inner workings of one lovelorn guy in all of his downhearted, paranoiac, grieving, hapless and helpless self!  Just like the singular central character in Adamson's new record, Barry recorded the whole project solo, living up to his multi-instrumentalist hallmark by programming, playing live and sampling and stealing every note you hear on each track, exploring some really interesting techniques in doing so and using modern technology to make an old wail. 'Sweet Misery’ premiered on Mark Radcliffe’s 6Music show in the UK and on Henry Rollins’ KCRW show in the US and the video for 'They Walk Among Us' was recently previewed on Dangerous Minds. To quote Adamson: 'The blues is the blues and if the heart aches then that's the sound that will come out, whether you are playing guitar, a synth, a piano or performing futuristic guitar solos on your iPhone!'  Talking about his upcoming solo tour, Adamson says;  “I'm launching myself from the studio into a unique solo show.  I’ll be playing songs from my new record which range from futuristic blues, soul and electronica and also of course, careering through my back catalogue to bring you the full "Barry Adamson experience." All dates below. THE MAKE-UP REUNITE!

THE MAKE-UP REUNITE!
THE MAKE UP is the Washington, DC group that re-defined underground music in the middle and late 1990s with their peculiar and incendiary blend of gospel, garage and yeh-yeh music. Known for their dynamic and interactive live presence at hundreds of shows across 5 continents, the group also recorded 7 LPs, 14 singles and EPs and and collaborated on films, videos, pamphlets, and happenings. They toured extensively as a headliner and with groups such as Royal Trux, Sonic Youth, Fugazi, Dub Narcotic Sound System, Lung Leg, Harry Pussy, and many others. The group has been called “dazzling … best dressed … martial … terrifying.” Their shows were known to feature communication, sermonizing, crowd participation, and dancing virtually unknown in the staid world of indie and garage rock. Their style was perfect, with matching Mao style jackets, with new versions designed for each tour. The group was widely copied as well and precipitated and inspired a wave of “garage” imitators in the 21st century who often had commercial success but lacked the spark, character, nuance of the Make Up. Occasionally, when the moon is bright and the wolfsbane blooms, the group has come out of hiding for rare and exciting personal appearances since disbanding in 2001. They are making one of their rare returns now for a short time only, available for very special events.Featuring Ian Svenonius on vocals, James Canty on guitar, Michelle Mae on bass guitar and Mark Cisneros on drums, and performing classics such as “they Live By Night”, “I am Pentagon”, Walking on the Dune” , “Here Comes the Judge,” “Every Baby Cries the Same,” etc, the Make-Up is as extraordinary as ever.View the dates for The Make Up’s upcoming run here and stay tuned for more soon!

Mary Lattimore Shares "The Warm Shoulder" Single; Collected Pieces Out Friday

Mary Lattimore shares "The Warm Shoulder"
Collected Pieces out Friday on limited cassette
Taking part in a 10 hour ambient music experience at RBMA Festival NYC on April 30Mary Lattimore "The Warm Shoulder"
[Stream]

https://soundcloud.com/ghostly/mary-lattimore-the-warm-shoulder

"“The Warm Shoulder” is loosely based on a cannibal joke told to me by a close friend: ‘What did the cannibal’s wife serve him when he was late for dinner? The cold shoulder!’

This song is supposed to be about the opposite of that—offering the warm shoulder, anti-revenge, just offering something very simple to somebody before anything’s gone wrong. I wanted to make it like a little girl-group wall-of-sound hazy backwards imperfect love song with a little innocence." - Mary Lattimore
Last year, Mary Lattimore’s  At The Dam  marked a watershed moment for the classically trained harpist. While over the past decade she had recorded and performed with notable talents like Kurt Vile, Sharon Van Etten, Steve Gunn, Jarvis Cocker, Meg Baird, and Thurston Moore, Mary’s acclaimed third solo full-length (her first long-player for Ghostly International) saw her own music deservedly embraced by a wider audience. It was certainly no small feat coming from a beguiling album of improvised, processed harp pieces that had been recorded during stops along a road trip across America – all funded by an esteemed fellowship that she received from the Pew Center for Arts & Heritage.

Out April 14 on cassette and digital,  Collected Pieces  is a gorgeous counterpart to At The Dam, featuring six tracks previously available only as a download and/or streaming off Mary’s Bandcamp and SoundCloud pages. Recorded at her old home in Philadelphia between 2011 and 2016 and mixed by longtime collaborator Jeff Zeigler, Mary is reflective when describing this album-length compilation. “It’s me opening a box filled with 12 years worth of memories made while living there, with lots of beauty and sorrow, as well as total sunshine, blurriness, and some darkness all housed within.”

Throughout Collected Pieces, she conjures a mesmerizing range of colors and emotions from her 47-string Lyon & Healy harp along with subtle augmentations of effects and processed electronics. Dedicated to Mary’s favorite beach town, Ship Bottom, NJ, 10-and-a-half-minute opener “Wawa by the Ocean” gently unfolds like a daydream, with the song’s delicate refrain slowly dissolving into a light wash of delayed plucks and sun-kissed countermelodies. “We Just Found Out She Died,” however, takes a more celestial turn as her airy vocal harmonies shimmer underneath the meditative flutter of her harp. (The chimeric atmosphere is befitting of the song’s inspiration: Twin Peaks actress Margaret Lanterman, a/k/a the Log Lady, who sadly passed away shortly after Mary had seen her speak at a library in Philadelphia.) From the sweet yearn of “The Warm Shoulder” to the flickering drift of “Your Glossy Camry,” Mary’s music is all at once intimate and inviting as she effortlessly balances her exquisite sense of melodicism with an inventive ear for experimentation.

“It’s only in looking back that you realize how impermanent stuff always was, even though 12 years felt really long,” Mary explains. “The songs here have always been really special to me, and more so after bringing together these scraps and odes to memories of a burning motel, people from high school who are old now, or that Wawa convenience store on the Jersey shoreline which will probably always be there but is now so far away.”

A new transplant from Philadelphia to Los Angeles, Mary hasn’t had much time to settle into her new hometown. Following a recent tour with Waxahatchee and Kevin Morby, the coming months ahead will find her on the road again with Real Estate, playing synth in the New Rain Duets with Mac McCaughan, taking on a two-month residency at the Headlands in Sausalito, CA (May through July), and recording a duo record with Meg Baird for Three Lobed Recordings.

Tour Dates:
04.12 Denver, CA @ Gothic Theatre w/ Real Estate
04.13 Salt Lake City, UT @ Urban Lounge w/ Real Estate
04.30 Brooklyn, NY @ RBMA Presents Beyond The Clouds: Ambient Excursions

Sylvan Esso's Video for "Radio, New Album out April 28th!

WATCH:SYLVAN ESSO SHARE VIDEO FOR "RADIO" PREMIERING TODAY AT VULTURE
NEW ALBUM WHAT NOWOUT APRIL 28TH ON LOMA VISTA RECORDINGS
NORTH AMERICAN TOUR ON SALE NOW
"Radio" deals with the game dynamics of pop culture, media, and the players who participate in it. Often times, it can be hard to distinguish where the actual power is held- who is the pusher, who is the user, and who is being used- and, maybe, that those roles aren't mutually exclusive. The women in our video are masters of this riddle, acting as devout consumers and also powerfully seductive influencers- a balance that all women know too well.  -Elise Tyler, director
WATCH "RADIO" HERE
Acclaimed duo Sylvan Esso's long awaited new album What Now will be released on April 28th via Loma Vista Recordings and today, they have shared the Elise Taylor-directed video for their single "Radio." When the single was first released late last year, "Radio" hit #1 on Hype Machine, and has become a streaming powerhouse, rocketing to #1 on Spotify's Viral 50 charts (US and Global), and amassing nearly 10 million streams. The band performed the song on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
Sylvan Esso's sophomore album, What Now, is the sound of a band truly fulfilling the potential and promise of their debut. Everything has evolved - the production is bolder, the vocals are more intense, the melodies are more irresistible, and the songs shine that much brighter. However, it is also a record that was made in 2016 - which means it is inherently grappling with the chaos of a country coming undone, the voices of two people nestled in studios around the country who were bemused by what they looked out and saw. It's an album that is both political and personal, and blurs the line between the two - What Nowdescribes the inevitable low that comes after every high, fulfillment tempered by the knowledge that there is no clearly defined conclusion.  It's a record about falling in love and learning that it won't save you; about the over sharing of information and the fine line between self-awareness and narcissism; about meeting one's own personal successes but feeling the fizzling embers of the afterglow rather than the roar of achievement; about the crushing realization that no progress can ever feel permanent. It is an album that finds its strength in its own duality. But at its core, What Now is an album of the finest songs this band has ever written- produced masterfully, sang fearlessly- to articulate our collective undercurrents of anxiety and joy.
Pre-order What Now at the band's store and on iTunes.
Watch videos for "Kick Jump Twist" and "Die Young", new songs from What Now: In May, Sylvan Esso will kick off of a headlining tour with dates in Europe before kicking off their North American tour in Atlanta on May 13th at the Shaky Knees Festival. The tour will see them play NYC's newest venue, Brooklyn Steel on May 18th, Nashville's historic Ryman Auditorium, multiple nights in Madison, Wi, Portland and Seattle, and top slots at Boston Calling and Eaux Claires festivals.
The band have also announced their own massive hometown one-day festival at Shakori Hills in Pittsboro, NC on September 30th where Sylvan Esso will be joined by their friends Tune-Yards, Wye Oak, Helado Negro, Well$ and more.

Listen to Royal Trux's "Sometimes"!

UNTAMED TRUXIAN BREW Platinum Tips and Ice Cream,  out June 16th!Unearthed from the raw, unfettered sounds of two sold out dates on opposite ends of the country comes the new/ "live"/old song /new performance album that is yet another chapter in one of the best books out there. Yes, Royal Trux wrote that book and  Platinum Tips + Ice Cream  brings us the skillfully rendered Truxian addendum, piercing through the dim, calculated bullshit that permeates our eyes and ears on a daily basis, reminding us that Royal Trux have done more to define the look, attitude and sound of rock & roll than their publicly recognized counterfeits.
Harkening back to the earliest days of Trux, "Sometimes" is Neil and Jennifer at their sludgiest, with Jennifer's feral and commanding vox feeding off Neil's rugged, unparalleled guitar tone. Blazed and heavy, the track bolsters Trux's wicked chemistry, which remains potent and peerless. While other versions of "Sometimes" most certainly exist, Trux prove they continue to have the system on lock and again successfully reinvent their wheels---giving us the DEFINITIVE interpretation.
"Sometimes" proves what we've always known: this was and is Royal Trux, innovators and dedicated lifers among the sounds they love. Listen to the track below! LISTEN TO

The Regrettes Make TV Debut, Performing on CONAN

THE REGRETTES MAKE TV DEBUT,PERFORMING "HEY NOW" ON CONAN
April 12, 2017 (Burbank, CA) - LA-based punk act The Regrettes made their TV debut last night on CONAN with a performance of "Hey Now," from their critically acclaimed debut album, Feel Your Feelings, Fool! The full performance can be watched below.
Watch The Regrettes perform "Hey Now" on CONAN:http://teamcoco.com/video/the-regrettes-hey-now-04-11-17
With the release of the album, The Regrettes have established themselves as a leading breakout band, earning buzz from Billboard, NPR, StereogumBUSTNYLON and more for what LA Weekly praises as, "the sound of young, socially aware people sharing their frustration and elation with heavy energy and a no-fucks-given attitude." The band is currently wrapping up a nationwideheadlining tour across the US, adding to the band's previous legs with such leading acts as Sleigh Bells, Kate Nash, Peaches, Cherry Glazerr and The Frights.
The Regrettes is composed of Lydia Night (vocals & guitar), Genessa Gariano (guitar), Sage Chavis (bass) and Maxx Morando (drums), who have dominated the Los Angeles punk rock scene since forming in 2015. Night leads the group with a bashful, blunt attitude reminiscent of Debbie Harry and Joan Jett, drawing listeners in to the band's infectious - and unapologetically honest - punk-driven pop songs
Further Praise for The Regrettes "The band played with cool confidence when its members were just kids; now that most of them are grown, look out."-NPR "[The Regrettes] delivered a set of solid pop-rock [...]"-Billboard "Despite still being teenagers, The Regrettes performed with a learned musicianship and self-assured confidence that demanded the well-earned respect afforded veteran artists. This is not a kiddie group or trendy project assembled by industry executives in a boardroom."-Chicago Tribune "Their music sounds like a lively blend of lo-fi surf rock meets The Strokes with a strong female lead-a combination sought by many but well executed by few."-Vogue "Their sound is reminiscent of punk acts that made waves decades prior, but Night's insight offers listeners a fresh, in-the-moment resurgence of feminist angst."-Nylon

We are over the moon to announce that Sub Pop has signed NYC-based band Frankie Cosmos to a worldwide deal. The band, comprised of Greta Kline (vox & guitars), David Maine (bass guitar), Lauren Martin (keyboards, synthesizers & vox) and Luke Pyenson (drums), have toured the world extensively in support of their 2016 release Next Thing (Bayonet Records) which received critical praise from the likes of PitchforkNY TimesPasteRolling StoneDIY Magazine and many more.

Frankie Cosmos is currently working on new material and will continue to tour throughout the remainder of the year. They kick-off a North American tour on May 5th in Boston, MA, which includes a performance at this year's Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago on July 14th. Additionally, the band will visit Europe for a series of shows July 28th-August 8th. Please find a current list of tour dates below.

About Frankie Cosmos:
Originally the solo project of prolific New York City-based songwriter Greta Kline, Frankie Cosmos has blossomed into a four-piece band including David Maine, Lauren Martin, and Luke Pyenson.

The first studio release as Frankie Cosmos, Zentropy (Double Double Whammy), garnered wide acclaim upon its release, including New York magazine’s #1 Pop Album of 2014 and aPitchfork "Best New Track" for “Birthday Song.” Recorded as a two-piece with Aaron Maine on drums, Frankie Cosmos began performing live as a three-piece with Aaron’s brother David on bass, and later as a four-piece with Gabrielle Smith on keyboard. The next studio release, 2015’s Fit Me In EP (Bayonet), combined Kline’s honest, lyrically-driven songwriting with Maine’s affinity for synth-driven production, and earned the project another Best New Track for “Young.” Lauren and Luke joined the group in late 2015 on keyboard and drums, leaving Gabrielle and Aaron to pursue their personal projects—Eskimeaux and Porches—and cementing the band’s current lineup.

The group’s most recent release is the critically-lauded Next Thing(2016, Bayonet), which has been praised for memorable lyrics that are both clever and concise, deeply personal and widely relatable; beautiful three-part vocal harmonies that enhance catchy pop melodies; and increasingly sophisticated instrumental arrangements that reflect a rapidly maturing band continuing to grow. The album received a coveted Best New Music designation from Pitchfork as well as exceptional reviews from the New York Times, Rolling Stone, and others. The band’s live show, honed during extensive touring of North America, Europe, Oceania and Japan, has also received glowing feedback for its mix of energy, intimacy and levity.

In their off-time, the bandmates of Frankie Cosmos practice a variety of other jobs and hobbies including textile design, food journalism, massage therapy, cooking, mixed martial arts, reading, painting, and petting dogs.

What people have said about Frankie Cosmos:
Ms. Kline’s songs don’t last long, and neither does her imagery, but she can be exceptional at capturing how quickly frail things can break, taking devastating turns in just a couple of lines. [Next Thingreview]   NY Times

Many of the songs ("Embody," "On the Lips," "Too Dark" and "Sleep Song") on the album have appeared in acoustic permutations in past work, and they make the leap seamlessly. Each aremarvelously well.wrought trains of thought, cramming existential questions into the banality of everyday moments and finding something beatific even in the plainest of things. [Next Thingreview] -  Pitchfork

There are no answers, no solutions to any problems, and no gateway doors through escapism, but for half an hour the record shines a light through confusion, and just for a while, it doesn’t have to feel like such a loss to be lost [Next Thing review]  -  DIY Magazine
