'Delicate' Steve Marion To Join The Growlers for Northeast Dates
'Delicate' Steve Marion To Join The Growlers for Northeast Dates
The Growlers US + International Tour Dates Including Dot to Dot, Primavera Sound and This Is Not A Love Song Festivals
The Growlers will welcome modern day guitar hero "Delicate” Steve Marion to share the stage with them for five Northeast shows on their current US tour. The headline run starts Tuesday (5/16) and includes two nights in Boston, Baltimore, Philadelphia plus the LA band’s debut at Terminal 5 in NYC.
“Delicate” Steve who leads the band of the same name will sit-in on The Growlers new City Clubalbum material, deep cuts and select covers. Most recently, The Growlers have been playing shows in the three hour range during which the band will often perform Nigerian funk musician William Onyeabor’s “Good Name” - a song that Marion should be no stranger to - he signed to David Byrne’s Luaka Bop label at the age of 25 (home to 2013’s Who Is William Onyeabor? LP).
The Growlers are known for their relentless touring schedule and DIY work ethic, The group is one of the most exciting independent success stories in recent years. Their trademark sound effortlessly manages to combine eclectic elements of country, lo-fi punk, surf/psych/garage rock, Tex-Mex and slacker/stoner/skate culture. Their most recent album, City Club, with its less surf, more synth sound, was produced by Julian Casablancas and released on his label Cult Records.
LA Weekly recently named the band #4 on their Top 30 Best LA Rock Bands of the Past Decade list writing: "Via Costa Mesa, and down into the belly of Echo Park, The Growlers are the party band that grew into a traveling circus of psychedelia that influenced Burger and Lolipop Records and even spawned their own festival, Beach Goth. It's a zonked-out, uniquely Californian vision of bleached blond hair and drunkard culture that many bands have imitated but none have managed to reproduce. Lead singer Brooks Nielsen draws the kind of devotion among Growlers fans that Jim Morrison once did. And they've built their cult following without a single album review in Pitchfork."

New Alice Coltrane Collection Out Now On Luaka Bop Earns Global Praise

"THE MUSIC IS ASTOUNDING" - NEW YORKER
PITCHFORK BEST NEW REISSUE
LUAKA BOP + RED BULL MUSIC ACADEMY FESTIVAL TO RECREATE ALICE'S ASHRAM AT THE KNOCKDOWN CENTER IN NYC MAY 21Alice Coltrane Turiyasangitananda’s life, music and devotion to spirituality are being celebrated with ‘World Spirituality Classics 1: The Ecstatic Music of Alice Coltrane Turiyasangitananda’ – out today on Luaka Bop. The compilation makes available to the wider public for the first time a set of recordings that the visionary musician made after founding the Sai Anantam Ashram outside of Los Angeles in the early 1980s. The recordings were intended for members of the ashram and released as private press cassettes, four albums in total. The music is remarkable and perhaps the best window into Alice’s spiritual being, “something wholly new, and completely her own” says NPR. Watch a short introductory film on Alice’s life and this music here: http://bit.ly/2q3eXWDA profile in the NY Times ran this week: http://nyti.ms/2qsVkrWStream the album:Spotify: http://spoti.fi/2qZUZcGApple Music: http://apple.co/2r1VwvrRed Bull Music Academy Festival will celebrate Alice’s music and spirit with a two-part performance at the Knockdown Center in Queens on Sunday May 21. The first part is presented with Luaka Bop and inspired by the Sunday ceremonies Alice held at her Sai Anantam Ashram in California. Timed to coincide with sundown, the powerful, spiritual music will be performed by an ensemble led by music director Surya Botofasina, who grew up at the Ashram. The latter half will be a concert led by her son, Ravi Coltrane, featuring an all-star band playing music from throughout Alice’s career.PRAISE FOR ‘THE ECSTATIC MUSIC OF ALICE COLTRANE TURIYASANGITANANDA’: “The music is astounding” -The New Yorker“Either you're going to be using your voice to sing along, or your heart" - NPR"...like prayers for humanity... Hers is a voice that you want to believe could heal the entire world one person at a time… Alice Coltrane is religion. Once you’ve felt it, the ashram is in you." – Pitchfork / BEST NEW REISSUE"Exquisite" - Monocle“Mesmerizing!” - Record Collector“Soulful backbeats are driven handclaps and tambourines while chants mesh with a call-and-response wildness” - Mojo“Straightforwardly gorgeous… the beauty of Coltrane’s work, and the way she could transform a personal system of belief into the highest accessible art, is striking. It confirms how appealing the otherworldly can be, even when you’re convinced that other world doesn’t exist…” - UncutOrder the album here: https://luakabop.lnk.to/AliceColtranehttp://alicecoltrane.com

Miya Folick (credit: Waverly Mandel)
LA-based artist Miya Folick has just shared the new song "Trouble Adjusting" and announced a forthcoming EP Give It To Me slated for release later this year via Terrible Records. The new EP was recorded with the intention to capture the bombast of her recent live shows, as exemplified by the guitar driven anthemics of the new single. Miya and her band will be heading out for a two week European tour starting May 13th, followed by a series of dates with Foster the People at the end of this month. Full tour dates below. "Trouble Adjusting" follows last year's stand-alone singles "Pet Body" and "God Is a Woman," which was named "World Record" on Zane Lowe's taste-making Beats 1 show and led to a slot in Rolling Stone's 10 Artists You Need To Know feature last November. "Miya Folick isn't a star yet, but on the evidence of the Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter's haunting debut EP, Strange Darling, and her spiky just-released single 'Pet Body,' stardom is surely in the cards." - VOGUE "Her gift is capturing the uncertainty, temptation and impulsiveness of brief but fraught junctures, with music that tells as much of the story as her lyrics." - NEW YORK TIMES "Folick is only beginning to explore the reaches of what she could be - and what she's discovering so far is extremely promising." - STEREOGUM BUY/STREAM "TROUBLE ADJUSTING"https://miyafolick.lnk.to/troubleadjusting

HUNDRED WATERS RELEASE NEW CURRENCY EP, NEW ALBUM COMING FALL 2017
HUNDRED WATERS RELEASE NEW CURRENCY EP, NEW ALBUM COMING FALL 2017 FIVE SONG EP FOLLOWS THE RELEASE OF NEW SINGLE "PARTICLE" LISTEN TO THE CURRENCY EP HERE:http://smarturl.it/currencyep ;
Hundred Waters have unexpectedly released a new five song EP entitled
Currency
. The EP was written and self-recorded/produced over the last three years at various shared houses in Los Angeles, California. It's a deeply personal record that reflects a period of profound change within the band, wherein relationships have shifted into unfamiliar territory. Songwriter and vocalist Nicole Miglis states: "these songs revolve around the balance between self and another, of the fine line between giving too much and not enough. how the lowest emotions are the ones that bring us closest when we open ourselves to others. how sadness and vulnerability can bring the most power and the most destruction. how truly giving yourself to someone else in any relationship can lead to a loss of identity. and how to reclaim ourselves when those lines have been erased? where do we find worth within ourselves and what do we value. which parts do we give of ourselves, what do we keep, and what we ask for in return?" The EP was generated during the same fertile recording sessions as the band's forthcoming third album, which is nearing completion and due for release this Fall on OWSLA. The new album will be the trio's first full length since 2014's critically lauded
The Moon Rang Like a Bell
, whose glowing response led to worldwide tours with such diverse acts as The xx, Alt-J, and Interpol, multiple late night TV appearances (including a collaborative performance with Skrillex and Chance The Rapper on Late Night with Stephen Colbert), a Coca-Cola Superbowl ad placement as part of the brand's anti cyber-bullying initiative, and critical accolades from everyone from Pitchfork to Dazed toEntertainment Weekly. This Sunday, May 14th the group will perform a special set (including debut performances of new material) at the fourth annual FORM Arcosanti, the music & arts festival they founded and curate in Arizona. The festival's 2017 headliners include Solange, Father John Misty, James Blake, Future Islands, and Skrillex.
