A.V. Club Announce Robert Pollard's ‘100' Album Art Book

 A.V. CLUB ANNOUNCE ROBERT POLLARD'S ‘100'
ALBUM ART BOOK

GUIDED BY VOICES ANNOUNCE SUMMER TOUR DATES
'AUGUST BY CAKE' OUT NOW IS ROBERT POLLARD’S 100TH ALBUM!
The A.V. Club announced the release of Robert Pollard's album artwork book, '100'.

On April 7th, Guided by Voices released August By Cake. Not only was it GBV's first double album, it was also the one hundredth album that Robert Pollard has released since 1986's Forever Since Breakfast. To put that in perspective, Bob Dylan has released roughly 39 studio albums since 1959. And that includes the Traveling Wilburys.

To commemorate this historic achievement, Rockathon Records is releasing 100, a beautifully bound coffee-table book reproducing the front and back covers for all 100 albums.  Less a testament to Pollard's extensive career and more a study in album art, the book is a large format (12x12) hard cover document containing over 200 pages printed to the edge.   Available at www.RockathonRecords.com

Says Pollard:  "The book is more about the art than the achievement itself.  It's an art book.”

Guided By Voices also has added new summer tour dates:
  GBV Summer Tour Dates:
7/28 - Chicago, Il @ Beat Kitchen (Sold Out)
8/16 - Cincinnati, OH @ The Woodward Theater
8/17 - Bloomington, IN @ Castle Theater
8/19 - Plymouth, MN @ Hilde Performance Center

PHOENIX Share New Song "Ti Amo" + New Album Out June 9

PHOENIX"Ti Amo"
Photo Credit: Ron Elkman"The band's most unabashedly romantic record yet." -  The New York Times "'J-Boy' begins as a sputtering electro dirge that sounds like it's running out of batteries. But that's merely the dingy, back-alley entrance to a dazzling, neon-lit discotheque whose doors swing open and whisk you in at the 10-second mark. The radiant synth sheen of the band's recent records remains, but here it's slathered onto a steady bass bounce..." -  Pitchfork, Best New Track "The Frenchmen sounded at the top of their game, the variety of synths and instruments creating a smooth, nostalgic mix that further augments the pop-indie vibes they've been working on since their inception. With Phoenix's proven track record at writing songs that own the summer, Ti Amo is absolutely a record to get excited about." -  CLRVYNT
Phoenix are thrilled to introduce the self-titled track from their forthcoming album,  Ti Amo , out on Loyaute/Glassnote Records on June 9th. Premiered earlier today by Sirius XM Alt Nation, "Ti Amo" is classic Phoenix with a sun-kissed, Italian twist, and hands down one of the most joyous songs you'll hear in 2017. Listen HERE.
Ti Amo is Phoenix's first album since 2013's critically lauded  Bankrupt! . Produced by the band and recorded at La Gaîté Lyrique (Paris) with the help of long time collaborator Pierrick Devin, Ti Amo is - in the band's own words - "an album about simple pure emotions: love, desire, lust and innocence, it's also a record about our European, Latin roots, a fantasized version of Italy: a lost paradise made of eternal Roman summers (hyper-light, hyper-clarity, pistachio gelato), juke-boxes on the beach, Monica Vitti and Marcello Mastroiani, fearless desire and Antique marble statues."

Phoenix are currently touring through the U.S., where they will headline Hangout Festival this Friday, May 19th, as well as Governor's Ball on Saturday, June 3rd.  All tour dates are listed below.

WIRE Announce Fall Tour Dates USA 2017

WIRE Announce Fall Tour DatesCritically Acclaimed Album Silver/Lead out now on pinkflag Photo Credit: Mike Hipple
"With much of their recent material, Wire continues to keep true to themselves in a way that makes old fans stick around, while still freshening up their sound enough to engage new generations with each new decade of music." - Stereogum
"Silver/Lead is another timely record from a band with an unwavering eye for the present." - Noisey
Stream: Silver/Lead via Noisey
WIRE have announced its fall North American headline tour in support of its critically acclaimed studio album, Silver/Lead. The upcoming dates follow up the band’s successful West Coast tour and DRILL festivals in Los Angeles, Leeds and Berlin. WIRE will be touring the U.S. and Canada with the tour kicking off on September 16 in Chicago at The Metro and will include three shows in Brooklyn at Baby’s All Right. The band will also visit markets such as Boston, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia and Toronto. All upcoming shows are listed below.
Silver/Lead is the 15th studio album from musical pioneers Wire. It arrived on the 40th anniversary of their debut performance. Yet it’s about as far from nostalgia as you could get. This is the sound of a uniquely addictive 21st century psychedelic post-punk.On Silver/Lead, Colin Newman and Matt Simms’ guitar work is alternately jagged and luminous, while bassist Graham Lewis’s ear-catching lyrics are vivid yet oblique. Meanwhile, drummer Robert Grey provides a virtual masterclass in percussive minimalism. But it’s how the various instruments mesh together that really counts. And Newman’s production creates a sonic space in which even the smallest gesture is accorded some recognition.Highlights include the optimistic dazzle of “Diamonds In Cups,” with its almost T. Rex-style buzz and chug, and the moody swing of “This Time.” Elsewhere on the musical spectrum, there’s the menacing widescreen grandeur of "Playing Harp For The Fishes" and breakneck-paced guitar pop of "Short Elevated Period."Wire are one of the world’s most ground-breaking bands, their influence acknowledged by bands as diverse as Blur, Sonic Youth, R.E.M. and Savages. But they have never been interested in exploiting past glories. For Wire, there is only ever one possible direction: forwards. So it’s perhaps not surprising that over recent years, they’ve played strings of sold-out shows, achieved career-best record sales, and been cited as a strong influence by yet another generation of bands.Wire’s last three albums garnered nothing but rave reviews. From 2013’s strangely beautiful Change Becomes Us (“It’s fantastic.” – Pitchfork) to the crackling motorik of 2015’s Wire (“It’s all really well turned, potent and crisp.” – The Guardian), and last year’s punchy mini-album Nocturnal Koreans (“It's a cracker and sounds defiantly modern.” – The Quietus). Consequently, although it may be being released on the band’s 40th anniversary, Silver/Lead is an album which has nothing to do with the past and everything to do with the future.  Wire Tour Dates  09.16 - Chicago, IL @ Metro09.17 - Detroit, MI @ El Club
09.18 - Columbus, OH @ Ace Of Cups
09.19 - Cleveland, OH @ Beachland Ballroom

Liars Return With New Album; Summer Festival Dates

LIARS

RETURN WITH  NEW ALBUM

SUMMER FESTIVAL DATES ANNOUNCEDPhoto: Vernon MaxwellLIARS return in 2017 bearing new recordings from deep in the Australian bush.

The bustling backdrops of Los Angeles, Berlin and New York have been replaced with a presence far more intimate and autobiographical as Liars once again boldly step out of their comfort zone into vastly new musical territory.

To get a glimpse of the forthcoming album, out in August, watch these five short clips and follow the playlist to be the first to see and hear additional material. New clips will be added throughout the summer.

Following an amicable parting of ways with Aaron Hemphill, Angus Andrew decamped to his native Australia to create an album unlike any Liars had attempted before.

In Angus' words: “My favorite feeling is going into the complete unknown. What's the point in making something you know you can? My goal was to make creative decisions that keep me awake at night.”

Liars also announce a string of festival dates in the US and Europe this summer ahead of the release of what will be the eighth Liars studio album. With a new touring band joining Angus, the dates include performances at this year’s Riot Fest in Chicago and a headline date at Brooklyn’s Warsaw. Full details below with more to be confirmed.

Boss Hog Release Video for “Ground Control” Today

New Album Brood X Out Now On In The Red Records

On Tour Now

They’re crawling out of the darkness covered in dirt, using their rare moment in the sun to unleash an infernal buzz
 Pitchfork

Seventeen years after their last album, noise-punk icons Jon Spencer and Cristina Martinez sound as dangerous as ever: Brood X is a thrilling assault of fuzzed-out guitars, shagadelic 60s organs, and Martinez's earth-quaking caterwaul
Entertainment Weekly

New York City’s Boss Hog and director Andrew Hooper have released their kooky Cold War caper video for the song “Ground Control” today via  Brooklyn Vegan . The track appears on their new album  Brood X , out now on In The Red Records. Watch and share the video for “Ground Control” here.

Led by Cristina Martinez (ably assisted by her faithful sideman/husband Jon Spencer, as ever playing Flavor Flav to Cristina’s Chuck D),  Brood X  feels less like the work of a group who’ve been on ice for so long, more a slithering and sludgy monster of an album, a boiling pot of hot funk keys, growling punk attack, searing blues breaks and the ground-shaking holler of Martinez.

The 17-year cicadas have re-awoken, and not a moment too soon. New York has changed beyond recognition and there’s a buffoonish villain entering the White House, but Martinez’s towering vocals and vicious, hilarious, emboldening lyrics have never sounded so sharp, nor Boss Hog so timely. Opener ‘Billy’, all brawny low-end and delirious funk organ, finds Cristina and Jon howling about “The brink of destruction!” over apocalyptic beats, while Ground Control, a prismatic vision of today’s Big Apple, includes the bitter observation, “This is the cost of privilege”.

“A lot of Cristina’s lyrics on this album resonate with me more deeply since the election,” nods Spencer. “They’re blues songs, protest songs.”

“The songs do feel oddly relevant now,” Cristina adds.
