PRESS QUOTES:

"What will likely go down as their masterpiece." -- Drowned in Sound, 9/10

"This is deep soul-searching presented in dense, knotty guitar tapestries with a glimmering sheen — like Real Estate’s attempt at a Sonic Youth album, or a post-punk band writing pop songs after downing sleeping pills." -- Stereogum

"Chastity Belt has never felt this vulnerable, or as relatable." -- NPR

"Chastity Belt prove that pop music can have substance." -- Loud and Quiet

"Their wit and impeccable songwriting has helped define the current iteration of the Seattle scene...the band sounds their most mature and full-realized than ever before." -- KEXP

"This is one hell of an album." -- The 405

"Cuts Sonic Youth's post-punk sheeting with a Lush-like pop jangle." -- Uncut

"The foggy nights of the soul chronicled here lend Chastity Belt's bruised indie pop a weight that suits it." -- MOJO, 4/5

"This whole album is steeped in nostalgia, looking back on how things have changed, with a sense of humor." -- BUST, 4/5

ABOUT THE RECORD:
A few years ago, while in a tour van somewhere in Idaho, the members of Chastity Belt—Julia Shapiro, Gretchen Grimm, Lydia Lund, and Annie Truscott—opted to pass the time in a relatively unusual fashion: They collectively paid one another compliments, in great and thoughtful detail. This is what we like best about you, this is why we love you. I think of that image all the time, the four of them opening themselves up like that, by choice. It’s hard to imagine other bands doing the same. But beyond their troublesome social media presence—see: the abundance of weapons-grade duck face, the rolling suitcase art—and beyond the moonlit deadpan of say, “IDC,” lies, at the very least, an honesty and an intimacy and an emotional brilliance that galvanizes everything they do together. Which is a fancy way of saying: They’re funny, but they’re also capable of being vulnerable. “Giant Vagina” and “Pussy Weed Beer,” two highlights from their aptly titled 2013 debut, No Regerts, were immediately preceded by a sublime yet easily overlooked cut named “Happiness.” I saw a younger, still unsettling version of myself all across 2015’s Time to Go Home

This June marks the release of I Used to Spend So Much Time Alone, their third and finest full-length to date. Recorded live in July of 2016, with producer Matthew Simms (Wire) at Jackpot! in Portland, Oregon (birthplace of some of their favorite Elliott Smith records), it’s a dark and uncommonly beautiful set of moody post-punk that finds the Seattle outfit’s feelings in full view, unobscured by humor. There is no irony in its title: Before she had Chastity Belt, and the close relationships that she does now, Shapiro considered herself a career loner. That’s no small gesture. I can make as much sense of this music as I can my 20s: This is a brave and often exhilarating tangle of mixed feelings and haunting melodies that connects dizzying anguish (“This Time of Night”) to shimmering insight (“Different Now”) to gauzy ambiguity (“Stuck,” written and sung by Grimm). It’s a serious record but not a serious departure, defined best, perhaps, by a line that Shapiro shares early on its staggering title track: “I wanna be sincere.”

When asked, their only request was that what you’re reading right now be brief, honest, free of hyperbole, and “v chill.” When pressed for more, Truscott said, “Just say that we love each other. Because we do.”This is who they are, this is why I love them.—David Bevan, February 2017

Ramonda Hammer Shares "Destroyers" Single With CLRVYNT; New EP Destroyers Out August 4 On New Professor

Ramonda Hammer Shares "Destroyers" Single With CLRVYNTNew EP Destroyers Out August 4 On New Professorphoto credit: Alexandria Bailey“Grunge-pop finds a new hero in Ramonda Hammer” - CLRVYNT"Led by guitarist/songwriter/vocalist Devin Davis, Ramonda Hammer is a Los Angeles-based four-piece steeped in the sounds of 90s alt rock and college radio." - She Shreds"Ramonda Hammer strikes a thin dichotomy between thrasher-pop anxiety and a rocker's shoulder shrug." - Earmilk"Ramonda Hammer have perfected an indie-rock sound that’s equal parts power and melody."- LA Weekly"Crunchy, grungey, no-B.S. ’90s-style alt-rock, with Davis’ gritty vocals wailing through the quartet’s muscular hooks and rhythms." - Buzzbands LAListen: "Destroyers" at CLRVYNT or SoundcloudRamonda Hammer has revealed their new single "Destroyers" from the band's EP of the same name due August 4 on New Professor. The track premiered on  CLRVYNT  who said, "Vocalist Devin Davis can fucking rip, and the guitars are thunderous and crunchy, but the end is where things really set out to be different. The guitars wind together chaotically, creating a hurricane of sound and noise, all colliding in total, beautiful fury."About the single Ramonda Hammer's Devin Davis says: "'Destroyers' is about the super complicated and kind of demented human brain. I mean look at our world! It has become easier and easier to affect massive serious change on others while feeling less and less about it. This is undoubtedly because of technological advancements and increasing degrees of separation, but are we doomed to feel exponentially more dissociated from and apathetic towards one another forever? I don't know, I just find it fascinating how and why the two, or ten, or seven point five billion sides of any relationship think and behave the way they do. No one is completely selfless, but neither completely selfish, so maybe we look at that for a basis of new communication and change."
Destroyers is available to pre-order now on CD and digitally at  Bandcamp . Ramonda Hammer has also announced June west coast tour dates which will include shows in Seattle, Portland, San Francisco and a hometown single release show on June 13 at The Echoplex in Los Angeles with Pom Poms, Brass Box, & Alyeska. Tickets for the show are available HERE. All upcoming shows are listed below.
Ramonda Hammer is a Los Angeles grunge-pop quartet whose name comes from a lady featured on the television show Cheaters. The show is funny and sad, kind of how front-woman and band founder Devin Davis writes her songs. "Davis is the queen of grunge,” (KSPC) playing with quirky chord progressions, time signature and tempo changes, and dynamic, biting vocal melodies. The Destroyers EP follows up the band's debut album Whatever That Means, which is not only a playful nod to everyone who’s puzzled by the band’s name, but is a lyric from a track on the album.

"GIRLHOOD"

Performing last night at the Sydney Opera House in their homeland of Australia, The Preaturesrevealed to a sold out crowd that they will be releasing their forthcoming album titled GIRLHOODon Friday August 11th. Available to  pre-order now,

To celebrate the announcement The Preatures shared their brand new official video for title track and current single ‘Girlhood." Watch  here .

The dynamic video is directed by duo Joy Collective who through the band’s performance have created a magnetic film clip which compliments Girlhood’s pace and attitude while exploring the element of innocence and adolescence.

The Preatures forthcoming album GIRLHOOD explores the contradictions of being a modern woman. The follow-up to 2014 hit album BLUE PLANET EYES sees singer Izzi put herself front and centre, turning different stages of her life into 11 soul-searching sonic gems.

Five years ago, the band moved into a dingy rehearsal space in Sydney’s Surry Hills and set about transforming it into a recording studio they named Doldrums. It was here where they developed their sound, recorded 2013’s IS THIS HOW YOU FEEL? EP, and for the past 18 months, recorded and produced the GIRLHOOD LP.  Their initial plan to carry the momentum from the success of BLUE PLANET EYES into a month-long burst of recording turned into a year and a half of creativity and refinement.

Led by guitarist and producer Jack Moffitt and driven by rhythm section of Thomas Champion on bass and drummer Luke Davison, the band surrendered to the longer process. Jack recorded and produced the sessions, getting some initial help from Burke Reid (Courtney Barnett, Olympia, DMA’s) and ARIA Award-winning engineer Eric J. Dubowsky (Flume, Nick Murphy).

GIRLHOOD was given a final polish in Los Angeles by mixing engineer Bob Clearmountain, an industry legend for his work with David Bowie and Bruce Springsteen as well as Aussie icons INXS, Divinyls and the Church.

Their debut album BLUE PLANET EYES received critical acclaim across the globe and debuted #4 on the ARIA Album Chart. The band were nominated for 3 ARIA Awards in 2015 for Best Live Act, Best Group and Best Rock Album and won GQ’s Band of The Year Award.

"Girlhood" is available to pre-order from today and the single of the same title is available worldwide now.

Hannah Peel announces 'Mary Casio: Journey to Cassiopeia' and shares new single

HANNAH PEEL - Mary Casio: Journey to CassiopeiaStream 'Sunrise Through The Dusty Nebula' HERE Album released 8th September via My Own PleasureMetallic Gatefold Vinyl LP (MOP08V), CD (MOP08CD) & Digital Download (MOPO8DD)‘A great singer and a latter-day Delia Derbyshire’ The Observer
“Soaring orchestral arrangements that delight as much in the presence of the various instruments involved as they do in the space between each movement, building to a particularly rousing climax.” – The Quietus
“Peel is a real find, the  Delia Derbyshire  de nos jours… Mary Casio is the most satisfying live musical event I’ve attended in years” The Arts Desk
The Northern Irish artist and electronic composer’s third album is a seven-movement odyssey composed for analogue synthesizers and full, traditional 29-piece colliery brass band! With only a year following on from the release of her critically acclaimed second album ‘Awake But Always Dreaming’ (Voted No.1 Album Of the Year – Electronic Sound Magazine), ‘Mary Casio: Journey to Cassiopeia’, released 8th September via My Own Pleasure, explores one person's journey to outer space, by recounting the story of an unknown, elderly, pioneering, electronic musical stargazer and her lifelong dream to leave her terraced home in the mining town of Barnsley, South Yorkshire, to see Cassiopeia for herself.
With artwork by Grammy award winning designer Jonathan Barnbrook (David Bowie collaborator on albums ‘Blackstar’ and ‘The Next Day’) and the complete brass band and rhythm section recorded live on location in The Barnsley Civic Theatre with Peter Gabriel’s Real World studio team, this exclusive album combines Peel’s detailed, analogue synth layered production and her expressive flair for performance with ‘Tubular Brass’, featuring the top UK championship brass band players. It’s a wholly unique, collaborative sound and seemingly, a first of its kind both live and on record.
"We have a hundred billion neurons in our brains, as many as there are stars in a galaxy" Theoretical physicist and author, Carlo Rovelli
Continuing themes from her last record and by delving further into the rabbit hole of the mind, creating parallels between the human brain and space, Peel combines the unearthly sound textures and celestial ostinatos of the analogue synthesizers with the tremendously deep and rich power of traditional ‘British’ brass band to map Mary’s intergalactic passage into another world.
Hannah: “I wanted these huge slabs of planetary sounds to echo the excitement and wonder of our human need to explore and develop. Outer space is where only a select few can reach; yet it is somewhere we dream of going, or perhaps collectively, simply wanting to know what is out there. The unparalleled vastness in our galaxy is as equally melancholy and desolate, as Mary’s lonely voyage away from all she knows”.
During her teenage years in Yorkshire, Peel played trombone in brass bands: marching at weekends and wearing Dicky Bows at competitions and so naturally the ‘brass’ sound has become very much a part of her creative DNA. Her relentlessly explorative production and love of music made by analogue machines has evolved over the last few years and is now a key element in her solo work.
On this album, she explores two very different worlds – the power of the brass band players combined with the sub-bass impact and air resonating force of the synths but she also creates a very human and intimate, at times fragile sounding record through her collection of ‘breathing’ vintage electronics, found sounds, the nuances of the individual brass instruments and the subtle ambience of her voice combining with the real and raw breathing, shuffling and ‘spit’ of the players themselves.
With her research spanning from conversations between the public Astronomer at the Royal Observatory Greenwich, Marek Kukula, and extensive reading of books on theoretical physics, as well as memoirs on dreams, Peel confirms that no matter where we travel to and what we discover,‘we are all creatures of the land’ (A Land, Jacquetta Hawkes, 1951). And that …in all that immensity of black holes, supernovas, galaxies, nebulae, the most astonishing and the most complex natural object we have discovered in the entire universe is right here on earth, it’s in our heads, it’s the human brain” (Marek Kukula, May 2017).
At the close of the album’s final song ‘The Planet of Passed Souls’, tutti brass jostle with the hiss and crackle of a 78rpm record. An emotionally charged, scratchy sample taken from a 1928 recording of Peel’s own choirboy grandfather in Manchester Cathedral leaves the listener questioning the reality of Mary’s connection with the stars… Did she ever make it to Cassiopeia? Is this all a daydream as she sits in a back garden shed tinkering with electronics and her telescope? Or maybe this is her final breath as her mind and body pass into another realm of life? Is this science or fantasy? And how much is there really a division between the two?
As Isaac Newton’s stated on his discoveries in 1692, “…be material or immaterial, I have left to the consideration of my readers”.
The last year has been one of Peel’s busiest: In 2016, in addition to her solo album which shone a hopeful light on the devastating and fragile world of dementia, she collaborated with Beyond The Wizard’s Sleeve (aka Erol Alkan & Richard Norris) on the singles ‘Diagram Girl’ and ‘Creation’ and her band The Magnetic North released their widely praised second album, ‘Prospect Of Skelmersdale’ in March ’16. She has also been a guest panelist on several discussions on the effects of music and the brain.
Her single ‘Tenderly’ from the album was playlisted by BBC 6 Music and in the wake of a sold-out headline show in Shoreditch Church in November 2016 featuring readings by actor Christopher Eccelston and writer Lavinia Greenlaw, Peel was interviewed by Radio 4, The Guardian and Lauren Laverne (who also invited her to play a BBC 6 Music session).
Peel first came to recognition with her modest yet mesmerizing, hand-punched ‘music box’ EP ‘Rebox’, featuring covers of ‘80s bands Cocteau Twins, Soft Cell, & New Order. Having released her critically lauded solo debut album ‘The Broken Wave’, Peel then formed The Magnetic North, a highly acclaimed and expansive collaborative project with long term collaborator Gawain Erland Cooper (Erland & The Carnival) and Simon Tong (The Verve, The Good the Bad and The Queen, Gorillaz).
A handful of special shows in 2017 around the UK with the full 29-piece Colliery band and synths will accompany the release including an appearance at Blue Dot Festival and WOMAD.

MARNIE (LADYTRON'S HELEN MARNIE) ALBUM STRANGE WORDS AND WEIRD WARS OUT TODAY

MARNIE - LADYTRON’S HELEN MARNIE ALBUM STRANGE WORDS AND WEIRD WARS COMES OUT TODAY VIA DISCO PINATA
ITUNES HERE, SPOTIFY HERE

OUT MAGAZINE PREMIERE MARNIE'S MUSIC VIDEO "ELECTRIC YOUTH" HERE

“LOST MAPS” VIDEO HERE
"ELECTRIC YOUTH" VIDEO HERE

Ladytron's  Marnie  has released her sophomore album  Strange Words And Weird Wars , out now via Disco Piñata and available to buy on  iTunes  and stream on  Spotify .

Marnie's cutting edge sound has gained support from some of the most important tastemakers in the industry with the likes of  Pop Justice  premiering first single  'Alphabet Block' Consequence of Sound  unveiling the unashamedly melodic  Lost Maps  culminating in  The Line Of best Fit  premiering the audio for latest single  Electric Youth  with the video appearing first on  OUT  .

The stunning video for Lost Maps premiered on  Playboy  is now available to watch on the Marnie YouTube channel.

Comprised of ten pulsating tracks, Strange Words And Weird Wars showcases the most impressive elements of Marnie’s incarnation as a solo artist along with those that made her band, Ladytron, one of the most respected pioneers in electronic music; soul crushing synths are wonderfully accented by hook-laden choruses as Marnie boldly explores up-tempo electro dream-pop.

Marnie's ability to effortlessly play with genres becomes more and more apparent as you work your way through what is such a sonically impressive record. Tracks such as ‘Girls’ expertly draws parallels with some of the most gifted female contemporary electro artists, while introspection comes in the form of the shoegaze-inspired ‘A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night’, giving the air of an unreleased b-side from a cult vampire movie.

After moving back to Glasgow in September 2012, after many years living in London, Marnie continued to write music following the success of her solo project and subsequent album release in 2013. Influenced by life, love, loss, politics and all things 80’s pop, Marnie has created an album that has an intelligence and a depth behind what, on the surface, is a melodic modern pop record. Further support has come from the likes of  The 405 Filter BBC Radio Scotland  and  A.V. Club . Marnie will be supporting the release of the album with a perforce at  Oslo  in London on June 9th 2017.

“California Numb” combines the earth-shattering vocals and honest verses we’ve come to expect from the 21-year-old London-via-Melbourne singer/songwriter.  Today CLOVES releases the  video  for “California Numb.”
Directed by Phillip Lopez, the video for “California Numb” was shot on the streets of New York City.  Says CLOVES of the video, "The  ‘Better Now’ video  focused on representing the bittersweet dynamics of the record using light and space, so for California Numb I really wanted people to understand me more, feel the blunt frustration of ‘California Numb,’ by shooting a simple but bold and blunt video."
CLOVES is currently out on the road with Michael Kiwanuka on a sold out trek around North America (see remaining dates below).
CLOVES released her debut XIII EP in November 2015 to early praise from the media including The 405, Pigeons & Planes, Noisey, i-D and more.  The set showcased her lofty, gripping vocals and honest lyrics and featured the song “Don’t Forget  About Me” which was selected for a pivotal spot in the blockbuster  film “Me Before You,” and also appeared on the soundtrack, introducing her to new fans worldwide.  Since the release of her debut EP CLOVES has hit the road, where she continues to win people over show-by-show.
