Waxahatchee shares Out in the Storm’s brazen opener “Never Been Wrong”

Today, Waxahatchee premiered “Never Been Wrong,” the second single from  Out in the Storm  via Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 show on Apple Music.

Katie Crutchfield’s fourth album as Waxahatchee and her second full-length with Merge,Out in the Storm will be released on July 14. The album tells the story of Crutchfield taking control of a volatile situation, embracing her flaws, and exploring a new sonic freedom. “A running theme on the album is accepting your own imperfections that you’ve been trying really hard to hide,” says Crutchfield.

Listen to & share Waxahatchee’s “Never Been Wrong” now“Never Been Wrong” brazenly opens the album with fiery guitars and Crutchfield’s forthright lyrics: “You walk around like/ It’s your god-given right/ You love being right/ You’ve never been wrong.” This song serves as the foundation of the album by setting up the story with Crutchfield’s anger, sadness, and vulnerability all at once. “Being straightforward has always been more natural for me, and it was incredibly cathartic,” says Crutchfield. “It reminded me of being a teenager again, how I wrote songs then, and how huge that felt. It’s like that moment you walk away from a fight and you realize all of the things you should have said. This record is me saying all of that out loud alone as a personal practice. It’s sad and it's angry, and I think being both at the same time proved to be a powerful motivation for me.”Joining Katie on her world tour this summer are Allison Crutchfield (guitar), Katherine Simonetti (bass), Ashley Arnwine (drums), and Ali Donohue (guitar).

KATIE BUCHANAN SHARES "STAND WITH ME"
VIA THE DELI NYC

NEW ALBUM

WHO WE ARE WHEN WE'RE STANDING
OUT JUNE 9th

Album Release Show at Mercury Lounge on June 11th
with support from The Bright Smoke - details HERE!LISTEN & SHARE: Katie Buchanan - "Stand With Me"

LISTEN & SHARE: Katie Buchanan - "Oh Lord"
LISTEN & SHARE: Katie Buchanan - "Floating"
"A reflective, yet upholding piano line accompanies the track and the percussive elements, dark bass and synths create a gorgeous, soothing alternative reality where the losing and the fighting and the picking-yourself-up is accepted and encouraged."
The Deli NYC

"New York singer-songwriter begins the journey of standing still on new track."
Myspace

"Though Buchanan has extensive knowledge of and experience with gear and studio technology, that reliance on personal style and manual technique vs. technical fixes remains a cornerstone of her approach to music"
She Shreds

"She is a diligent professional, a skilled songwriter, and a direct artist—not to mention an expert guitarist."
Guitar World Today, NYC-based, guitar-driven singer and songwriter, Katie Buchanan, shares "Stand With Me" - the third single from her new LP. She is gearing up to release her sophomore album,  Who We Are When We're Standing , on June 9, 2017. The record is written and produced by Buchanan, mixed by Doug Schadt (Maggie Rogers, Wet, Emmy the Great) and mastered by Heba Kadry (Neon Indian, The Sea and Cake, The Mars Volta, Trust). The indie pop troubadour “deserves a prime spot on your daily playlist,” praises City Of Tenants, and they aren’t alone in their admiration. No Depression says, “it’s these under the radar artists like Katie Buchanan that renew my belief that in the right hands rock is not dead.” Buchanan’s music is guitar-driven pop with Americana roots and a slight electro spin. Honing her production skills while studying at NYU’s Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music and combining them with those homegrown roots, her music is “presented on a plate of spicy true blues tradition with just the right garnish of folk, roots, country and yes - a little electronica,” No Depression continues, “The Americana will follow and it will embellish it beautifully.”The Kansas-native grew up surrounded by music, having been born into a long line of musicians. With childhood memories of learning the blues around a campfire, you could say that songwriting is in Buchanan’s blood and comes almost as a second nature.2014’s EP Go received praise from Surf Rock Music (“you will never get tired of hearing it”) andGuitar World (“power vocal delivery conjures up an entrancing and magical experience.”) In 2015, Buchanan released her debut album, GLOW, which earned her comparisons to Bonnie Raitt and Fiona Apple from The RevueElmore Magazine draws comparison to “a lost peak-Tears For Fears track” in regards to the album’s stunning track “Gold.” GLOW’s shimmering lead single “Honey, Don’t” was premiered by The Vinyl District, who say they found themselves “in the arms of a wide-open pop song equipped with a stuttering electronic beat and moody chorus.” No Depressionsays the single “has the power to draw a listener into a vacuum of colorful melody.”Fans of Katie Buchanan’s ability to seamlessly combine her signature blues-rock style with modern production techniques will not be disappointed by her forthcoming effort, Who We Are When We’re Standing. Her unique style of music also shines through in her live performances. While listeners are being swept up in the album’s guitar driven pop anthems with that signature electro spin, they can find a message at the core: to stand still and stand tall.

Sacred Bones announces 7" from TROUBLE (as seen on Twin Peaks)

SACRED BONES ANNOUNCES TROUBLE - "SNAKE EYES" 7"
AS SEEN PERFORMED ON TWIN PEAKS
FEATURES ALEX ZHANG HUNGTAI, RILEY LYNCH, & DEAN HURLEY
LISTEN TO "SNAKE EYES"  HERE
PRE-ORDER  HERE , OUT JUNE 30                                                                                                                         photo courtesy of Suzanne Tenner
As seen performing last night on  Twin Peaks , the instrumental trio Trouble includes Twin Peaks creator David Lynch’s son Riley Lynch on guitar, Dean Hurley (longtime music supervisor for Lynch) on drums, and Alex Zhang Hungtai (Dirty Beaches, Last Lizard) on tenor saxophone. "Snake Eyes,' the track written and recorded for the highly anticipated return of Lynch's cult television classic effectively harkens a time when noir R&B was the de-facto soundtrack to hard liquor violence. Listen to it here.

The B-side to the single consists of the bonus ‘Mother’s Gone;’ a menacing companion track additionally recorded during the band’s only Twin Peaks recording session. There may never be any more music from Trouble, but this 45 serves as physical evidence of the group’s continued existence in a parallel cinematic universe, grinding out late night Roadhouse gigs in the fictitious town of Twin Peaks, Washington.

Kristin Kontrol and Andrew Miller launch Hunny Music + Scores 'Looking Glass' film dir. by Tim Hunter (River's Edge) & starring Nicholas Cage

Kristin Kontrol and Andrew Miller launch Hunny Music

Score Looking Glass film from director Tim Hunter (River’s Edge) and starring Nicolas Cage and Robin Tunney
Hunny Music is the songwriting and production team comprised of Kristin Gundred and Andrew Miller. The duo are currently working on the score for Tim Hunter’s film,Looking Glass, starring Academy Award winner Nicolas Cage and Robin Tunney.

Gundred is known for her work in former band Dum Dum Girls and current solo project Kristin Kontrol. Miller is an LA-based producer. The pair have worked together on various projects for over ten years. Most recently, Miller co-produced the Kristin Kontrol debut album X-Communicate, released via Sub Pop last year to critical acclaim. This is their first collaboration on a feature length film.

Looking Glass is at its core a very human story: a grieving couple struggles to move forward together in the wake of their daughter’s death. The film quickly mutates into a surreal, almost exaggerated look at what transmissible sins lay below the surface of an unremarkable motel in an unremarkable desert town.

It is this multiplicity that compelled Hunter, whose credits include the 1986 cult classic River's Edge (as well as episodes of the original Twin PeaksBreaking Bad, andMad Men), to return to film after more than a decade away.

Looking Glass is produced by Braxton Pope (whose credits include The Source Family and The Trust) and David Wulf for Highland Film Group and marks the second collaboration between Pope and Gundred. A fan of her work, Pope solicited acclaimed author Bret Easton Ellis to write a short film for Dum Dum Girls’ single “Are You OK?” Presented by Vice and MOCA TV, the mini-thriller starred Gundred and actor Shiloh Fernandez and featured additional scoring by Tamaryn and industrial legend Drew McDowall.

Taking periodic breaks from scoring and finishing her next release, Kristin Kontrol continues to tour in support of X-Communicate. Following dates with Chairlift on their recent farewell tour, upcoming shows include June 9th in Brooklyn for the Northside Festival, August 4th in San Francisco at Popscene!,  August 6th in Hollywood at the Hollywood Bowl (supporting Spoon and Belle and Sebastian), and August 18th in Columbus, Ohio at Fashion Meets Music Festival.

Jun. 09  - Brooklyn, NY - Northside Festival (Park Church Co-Op)
Aug. 04 - San Francisco, CA - Rickshaw Stop (Popscene!)
Aug. 06 - Hollywood, CA - Hollywood Bowl w/ Spoon & Belle and Sebastian
Aug. 18 - Columbus, OH - Fashion Meets Music Festival! (Fortress Obetz)

"Stirring stuff, it's the perfect entry point for those new to the Slothrust universe."
- CLASH (On "Sleep Eater")

"The insane shredding, crazy bass lines, and mad rocking are still there, but it also feels like a natural evolution from their last record, especially with Leah's lyrics, which are poignant and funny and you can relate to as an adult going through adult things and living through adult shit without wanting to pull your hair out."
- Lenny Letter

"Slothrust have released some their best songs yet on their recent album 'Everyone Else'. The Brooklyn-based trio's music-replete with lo-fi guitar, abrasive vocals and lyrics full of awkward yet affecting metaphors alongside blunt emotional confessions..."
- Alternative Press

"Everyone's Else stands out, making the two year period wait worth every moment" 4/5 Boobs
-BUST Magazine

"Tender fingerpicking passages lurch into crashing speed-metal crescendos, loping country-western equestrian odes edge into menacing horror-movie pizzicato and back again."
- Village Voice

"...a rip-roaring quick hit that places Leah Wellbaum’s gravelly voice over some ferocious-sounding guitars."
-Stereogum

“Listen to songs by Slothrust, and you'll hear aggressive sounds that hearken back to early-'90s rock bands like Nirvana and Dinosaur Jr. Listen more closely, and you'll also hear elements of the blues that the band’s members learned when they met in their college's jazz program."
NPR MUSIC

"Slothrust exemplify how colorful, fun and insightful rock music can be. The best kind of weird."
CLRVYNTAutostraddle has premiered the video for Slothrust's single "Pigpen", the final track off their 2016 album 'Everyone Else'. When talking about the video, lead singer Leah Wellbaum said, “We wanted to make a music video that stands on its own as a piece of art. Everyone who worked on this had an extreme focus on compelling, surreal imagery and concepts. Our intention was to make a type of music video that we haven’t made before, and don’t see very often.”

hopeless fountain kingdom  unfolds on the road this fall with Halsey's eight-week headline tour, kicking off September 29th with PartyNextDoor and Charli XCX as support. In the meantime, the making of the album was energizing.

"I had no idea how incredible of a writer [Halsey] was before we met," notes producer Ricky Reed. "She would come in and describe some kind of crazy visual scene for me to soundtrack: 'I am picturing Jimi Hendrix solo-ing in a Roman Cathedral, light pouring through the stained glass, but he's in, like, a Hawaiian shirt.'
"I feed off that kind of crazy inspiration," Reed continues. "So I would build the track off her vision and by the time I was finished she would have the poetry to match. She's brilliant and a living legend to me."
