Burger Records Announces Lovely Bad Things "Teenage Grownups" LP

Lovely Bad Things Announce "Teenage Grown Ups" LP On Burger Records!
Burger Records recently release a new EP from Lovely Bad Things called Homebodied, and now the band is back with their sophomore LP, Teenage Grownups (out August 25th on Burger Records).  Check out the video for the title track below....
Watch/Post "Teenage Grownups" Video

The legend of Lovely Bad Things began in an eerily boring town called La Mirada which is nestled between Los Angeles and Orange County, a fitting place for a band to find solace in music. Brothers Camron (guitar, vocals) and Brayden Ward (drums, vocals) met Lauren Curtius (guitar, vocals), Tim Hatch (guitar) and Wesley Baxter (bass) during their formative years, and joined forces to create a perfect blend of the most infectiously resonant aspects of their alternative and punk predecessors.
Lovely Bad Things offer a wild and humorous stage presence while effortlessly shredding the musical prowess they've spent the past 8 years cultivating. At one of their shows you're likely to be struck by Lauren's distinctly beautiful and powerful voice, Brayden's vehemently dynamic drumming, the solid and smooth bass of Wesley, and the mind melting trio of guitars shoved forever in your head by Tim, Camron and Lauren. They've played countless house shows and local venues, embarked on several cross-country solo tours, as well as with Best Coast and Diarrhea Planet, and have performed festivals including FYF, SXSW and Primavera Sound.
The music obsessed Lovely Bad Things' sound falls within the realm of Pavement, Dinosaur Jr., Weezer and the like. Lovely Bad Things meticulously craft and distribute their music with a respectable DIY ethos. All album artwork and merch are made from scratch by Brayden, and each member of the band contributes in songwriting and multi-instrumentation. Their hard work puts a giant emphasis on the Grown Ups end, while their hilarious and charmingly chaotic energy screams Teenage. Whether you're in your own young confusion searching for music to make you feel like you're not alone, a music snob who has a pessimistic outlook on anything post 90's, or simply a lover of music, Lovely Bad Things should be in heavy rotation.

Praise For Lovely Bad Things"The boy-girl vocal exchange that powers this rambunctious quartet's infectious songs is positively Frank and Kim (Pixies), but the playful humor and slackerly vibes are their own, making the band's music an enticing addition to the conversation." - SPIN
"The band's live energy defines them, with a garage influence comparable to Burger Records graduates King Tuff and Ty Segall and a first single that could be the best cover of the Pixies ever if the Pixies had written the song." Paste
"If you take the energy of any of the aforementioned acts (Black Keys, Ty Segall and King Tuff), combine it with an optimistic pop charm and a LA-worthy pop culture obsession, you should have a good idea about Lovely Bad Things" - Ad Hoc
"...an homage to 90s rock with ragged riffs, crashing cymbals, and tragic lyrics inspired by the Pixies and Dinosaur Jr." Nylon

ICE CUBE RELEASES DEATH CERTIFICATE: 25 ANNIVERSARY & EXPLOSIVE VIDEO FOR "GOOD COP, BAD COP"

WEST COAST RAP ICON ICE CUBE RELEASES DEATH CERTIFICATE: 25 ANNIVERSARY

Check out the explosive video for “Good Cop, Bad Cop” HERE

Catch Ice Cube on HBO's Real Time with Bill Maher tonight at 10PM ET/PTInterscope Records is pleased to announce the recent signing of West Coast rap icon, Ice Cube. The first project under the deal will be a 25th Anniversary edition of Ice Cube’s highly controversial second album. Death Certificate: 25 Anniversary Edition. The re-release features three new songs, “Only One Me,” “Dominate The Weak,” and the sinister lead single, “Good Cop, Bad Cop.” Originally released on October 29, 1991 and produced by OG Cube cohorts, Sir Jinx, and the Boogiemen (DJ Pooh, Bobcat, and Rashad Coes), the incendiary LP, which debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and sold over five million copies worldwide, takes a potent look at life in South Central through the eyes of one of reality rap’s greatest and grittiest storytellers.

Recorded in the wake of the Rodney King beating in 1991, Cube artfully contextualizes the harsh material he delivers on Death Certificate, declaring a “state of emergency” and breaking down the original 20-track opus into two parts. “The Death Side,” he says firmly, is “a mirror image of where we are today” while “The Life Side” represents “a vision of where we need to go.” The album’s revolutionary tone is established with the opening rager, “The Wrong Ni*** To F*** Wit.” The new material brings equal amounts of fire to the already stellar collection.

Rapidly traversing from guns (“Man’s Best Friend”) to gangs (“Colorblind”), Ice Cube leaves no stone unturned, attacking hot-button issues affecting the Black community with the ferocity of a lion. “Black Korea” addresses tensions in the ’hood after the shooting death of an African-American girl by a Korean grocer; “A Bird in the Hand” laments the lack of gainful employment opportunities for young Black males; “Look Who’s Burnin’” is upfront about the proliferation of sexually transmitted diseases among Black youth.

Nevertheless, activist and scholar Angela Davis took the artist to task for his overtly sexist imagery on the songs “Givin’ Up the Nappy Dugout” and “Horny Lil’ Devil.” The Simon Wiesenthal Center, a Jewish human rights organization, publicly denouncedDeath Certificate, calling the album anti-Semitic for comments on the now infamous diss track, “No Vaseline.” The state of Oregon even went as far as making it illegal for local retailers to promote Ice Cube in any way, shape or form.

James Bernard, then-editor of hip-hop magazine, The Source, clapped back at the album’s more mainstream critics with an official statement that said they were “too dainty and thin-skinned to hear the anger, rage and frustration that many people are forced to deal with every day.” In a review of the album for Entertainment Weekly, Bernard wrote, “I’m not arrogant enough to wag my finger at someone for stridency or incorrect language when many of his friends are dead and many of the rest are either in prison or standing on the corner surrounded by burned-out buildings and dying dreams.”

Despite all the surrounding controversy, Death Certificate was heralded a musical masterpiece and Ice Cube ultimately received the accolades he deserved for his incisive and revelatory socio-political commentary. Twenty-five years later, Cube maintains the album’s relevance. “Sadly, our community is dealing with many of the same issues,” he says. “I only hope that young millennials feeling powerless in the ’hood can channel their own anger and frustration by listening to this record.”

Death Certificate: 25 Anniversary Edition is available now at all digital retailers.

Juanita Stein of Howling Bells Announces Debut Solo Album

JUANITA STEIN AMERICA The Debut Solo Album - Released July 28th, 2017
“An ode to the dark heart of America”

“Dark Horse” - The Single - Out NowJuanita Stein will release her debut solo album,  America , on Handwritten Records onJuly 28, 2017Stein, who is already known as the singer / songwriter with Australian rock band Howling Bells, recorded the album with producer Gus Seyffert (Beck, Ryan Adams) in Los Angeles.  Following recent tours with Michael Kiwanuka and Richard Hawley, Stein will follow a North American tour in May with UK dates over the summer including with Tom Petty in Hyde Park and at Cambridge Folk Festival.

The first single from the album,  Dark Horse , is out now and available on Spotify here and Apple Music here.

America is also available for pre-order now; click HERE to pre-order it.

Says Stein of the album: "This record is an ode to the dark heart of America. Of times gone and times to come. Dusty trails, a whimsical 50s suburbia and the haze of the 1960s. I've forever idealized American life - growing up in Australia we were fed the American dream through film and television. The dichotomy between what was real and a dream is forever intriguing to me. The music of Roy Orbison, Dusty Springfield, Lee and Nancy and Patsy Cline all informed my musical sensibilities. They opened up this wide screen universe for me.”
An evocative and beautiful record, Stein’s honeyed voice weaves stories of heartbreak and optimism, from the unmistakably Western-influenced “Dark Horse,” to the moody love song, “I'll Cry.” “Florence” is inspired by a real-life photograph by Dorothea Langue, taken during the Great Depression, of the eponymous Florence Owens Thompson, a tale of a struggle for themselves and their children that’s as relevant to women of the world today as it ever was. The songs on the LP tell tales of characters real and imagined, Stein’s own experiences woven amongst them.

Juanita Stein grew up in Sydney with her parents and twin brothers. Her first studio recording was aged five, singing on a song of her father’s, and Peter Stein in fact wrote one of the songs on the album, the country music-drenched “Cold Comfort” (read Juanita talking about Peter on the brilliant My Old Man blog here).

Stein formed Howling Bells with her brother, Joel, and friends when they moved to London together in 2004. Four acclaimed albums followed, along with headline tours and festival shows around the world, and huge support dates including several U.S. tours withColdplay and The Killers.  A break from Howling Bells around the arrival of her first child saw the first shoots of her solo work start to emerge, and now we find ourselves here. America, an unpredictable place, forever bound up in a uniquely widescreen hope and romance.America Tracklisting: FlorenceDark HorseBlack WindsI'll CryStargazerShimmeringSomeone Else’s DimeIt’s All WrongNot ParadiseCold ComfortAmerica.

Pharrell creates a wildly upbeat 16-track summer dance party with Despicable Me 3 (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack). In addition to his five new original songs, the soundtrack gets a healthy dose of nostalgia, thanks to the series’ new villain, Balthazar Bratt (Trey Parker), a former child star who’s grown up to become obsessed with the character he played in the ’80s. Bad never sounded so good, literally, as Michael Jackson’s “Bad” makes the perfect theme song for Balthazar Bratt. The soundtrack also features classic hits from the decade including Madonna’s “Into The Groove,” Nena’s “99 Luftballons,” and a-ha’s “Take On Me.” Parker is featured on the infectious new song from Pharrell entitled “Hug Me.”

BERLIN 'VISUAL TRASH PUNK' ARTIST BONAPARTE REMIXES 'SPORTS' BY ELECTRO-PUNKERS FUFANU

BERLIN 'VISUAL TRASH PUNK' ARTIST BONAPARTE REMIXES 'SPORTS' BY ELECTRO-PUNKERS FUFANU

'SPORTS PLUS' REMIX EP OUT 14th JULY

LISTEN  HERE

“Like many great post-punk groups before them, the band consistently sounds disaffected and removed. Lead single and standout “Sports” is a terse drawl of seemingly disconnected thoughts, a masterclass in building tension.” – Pitchfork

“Fufanu shine a light into the bleak, mid-winter darkness.” 4* – MOJO

"Like the land of fire and ice from which Fufanu came, theirs is a melting pot of disparate flavors, bits of crunchy post-punk blended with cold techno and chewy synthpop.” – Consequence of Sound

"a fresh take on dark, electronic-driven post-punk.” – London In Stereo

“Their live show proved how possible it would be for them to become a major name in the indie sphere” – StereogumWidely lauded experimental-post-punk outfit Fufanu are set to release an EP of remixes of their most infectious single 'Sports'. The track is taken from their most recent album of the same name, which was released to critical acclaim in February this year. The EP includes inventive remixes by both Fufanu themselves and established artists, including eccentric Berlin based artist Bonaparte.

Bonaparte's creative remix is peppered with cut up snares and '80s synthesisers, whilst the distinctive monotone vocals of Kaktus – lead singer of Fufanu – are scattered across layers of cut up sounds.

Bonaparte said: “I discovered Fufanu whilst on a trip through Iceland and after meeting in a Reykjavík pub I managed to smuggle the single tracks of their single ‘Sports’ past the security check onto the airplane. Back in Berlin I decided to redress it into a psychedelic slow-motion b-movie soundtrack – one foot in the past, one in the future and Fufanu in the middle.”

The album, which was released in February this year on One Little Indian Records, was produced in Iceland by Nick Zinner of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. The record saw Fufanu return with a palpable sense of urgency and a fresh spin on their dark, new-wave-esq electronic-driven post-punk. Previously, the Reykjavik-based group operated as Captain Fufanu, making obscure techno music and bewildering audiences. However, lead singer Kaktus’ brief stint living in London and working with Damon Albarn on his seminal solo album ‘Everyday Robots’ moved the musicians to incorporate live instruments and expressive lyrics into his music. Fufanu was re-born – a band with a riotous and guitar-led sound that was oddly born out of electronic beginnings rather than the other way around, as is more common.

Launching the band at 2014’s Iceland Airwaves, in the space of just one week Fufanu became a hotly-tipped emerging band, made their UK live debut at the capital’s JaJaJa night and supported Damon Albarn at the Albert Hall - winning the approval of Brian Eno into the bargain.

2015 saw the band sign to One Little Indian, before going on to support The Vaccineson their sold out March / April tour in the UK - also slipping in a memorable two-night stand with Bo Ningen at Hoxton Bar & Grill. In June things once again dramatically shifted up a gear when the band supported Blur at Hyde Park.

Bonaparte is the brainchild of Swiss producer and songwriter Tobias Jundt - an eclectic wall of energy composed of romantic garage-punk guitars, mouldy analogue synthesizers, your grandma's favorite drum-beat and a spread of secretive wordplay. Jundt emerged from the party-capital‘s underground club-culture in 2006 and developed into a wild rock’n’roll-trash-punk-troupe de force touring extensively around the globe performing over 500 shows at festivals worldwide, such as Rock Am Ring, Hurricane/Southside, Dour, SXSW, Sziget, Melt, Montreux, Exit, St. Gallen and Roskilde.
