Showtime Goma (A Sunny Day In Glasgow's Jen Goma) Shares "Smiley Face" Album Stream
SHOWTIME GOMA SHARES SMILEY FACE ALBUM STREAM
DEBUT ALBUM OUT THIS FRIDAY, JUNE 16
Photo credit: Luxie Productions LISTEN / SHARE: SMILEY FACE
Showtime Goma, the solo pop project of A Sunny Day In Glasgow's Jen Goma, has shared an advance stream of her debut album Smiley Face. Brooklyn Vegan, who premiered the stream, call the album " multilayered, joyous, R&B-tinged dreampop , all centered around Jen's impressive pipes and melodic skills." Smiley Face is due out this Friday, June 16 and is available for pre-order here.
Praise for Smiley Face:
"Bursts with exuberant ideas and sparkling sounds... this is Goma unfiltered... her fizzy dance-pop gems are unlike anything she's made before." - NPR
"'Big Disaster' itself is anything but, a jovial dive into video game-esque synths and Goma's captivating vocals. The song is boundless, shifting its shape throughout its three minute run-time, teetering from sugary pop and sassy, soulful deliveries." - Stereogum
"An uplifting and cathartic collection of DIY pop songs." - Hype Machine
More on Smiley Face:
Smiley Face is the debut album by Showtime Goma, the first solo outing from performer and writer Jen Goma. Whether leading A Sunny Day in Glasgow or collaborating with musicians and artists - including Deerhoof, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Jherek Bischoff, Ice Choir and Roman à Clef- chances are, she's performing in your home town tonight. Chances are, Jen is standing behind you right now. Smiley Face is a record forged in these same fires of collaboration - bolstered by Deerhoof's heavy hitter Greg Saunier, plus appearances by composer Shahzad Ismaily (Laurie Anderson, Tom Waits), and an assortment of Goma's ASDiG pals.
Smiley Face sounds like a labor of love (because it is). It's DIY pop music built to stir and inspire. The record is an invitation, an invocation - to joy, anger, and catharsis in a time when apathy is not an option. Goma's voice is the guiding light - forceful and flexing through 10 dance pop parables of freedom, time, and irreverence. Smiley Face's anthems are defiantly optimistic in an era of carefully constructed cynicism. A light record with a dark sense of humor, brimming with hope and energy. It wants to take care of you.

Today the Pains of Being Pure at Heart shares the second single from its recently announced fourth album, The Echo of Pleasure, due Sept. 1 on the band's own Painbow label - you can hear "When I Dance With You" now at NPR and you can pre-order the album here in all formats. Limited edition (500 copies) gold metallic vinyl with gold foil stamped packaging are available to pre-order exclusively from the band's website. The band has also announced extensive European and North American tour dates (see full list below)."From the band's dreamiest shoegaze influences to its most lucid lyricism, The Pains of Being Pure At Heart has found strength in heart-on-your-sleeve songwriting. Now, as the band gets ready to release its fourth full-length LP, The Echo Of Pleasure, that vulnerability has shifted away from its roots in the complexity of youth. Instead, Pains' idealism is grounded in real adult love, expressed in its most ordinary and fantastic way on the band's latest single, "When I Dance With You." - NPRBio:
The Pains of Being Pure at Heart have long set the benchmark for big-hearted, idealistic pop songs. With The Echo of Pleasure, The Pains push beyond their many inspirations and embrace their role as indiepop heroes in their own right. Showcasing the deft songwriting of frontman Kip Berman, The Pains’ fourth album is their most confident and accomplished. After three critically-acclaimed records, 2009’s The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, 2011’s Belong and 2014’s Days of Abandon received praise from The New York Times, Pitchfork, The Guardian and Rolling Stone, they have put together a collection of songs that possess a timeless grandeur, deeper and more satisfying than anything the band has done since their iconic debut. Berman enlisted Days of Abandon producer Andy Savours (My Bloody Valentine, The Killers) to help him record a Pains record like none-other. “The logistics of it were so different. When I recorded the record, my wife was six months pregnant. We only had a limited amount of time. There was an absolute uncertainty hanging over our heads, but it was also a kind of escape from worry for that time,” he explains. “What’s going to happen when I have a kid? Am I going to be able to go on tour? Is this the last record I’m going to get to make? It’s not a bad thing to be worried when you’re expecting this huge transition of life. If you didn’t feel scared, you’re probably not feeling the right emotion. I tried to make the best record I could, knowing it might be the last time.”The Echo of Pleasure navigates variability and safety without unraveling. Berman is no stranger to fragility; here, it’s structured with warmth, the kind found after life-altering moments. It’s reflected in the album title, too: “The Echo of Pleasure could be the near-symmetry of love,” he explains. “It’s the reflection back and forth, modulating over time, of two people who are together. It’s not a mirror - but a perpetual answering and asking. When one person is absent, that echo ceases or, as the title track laments, ‘fades into these silent days.’ In that sense, remembering is a kind of echo, each instance slightly less vivid than the one before.”The record is augmented by guest vocals featuring previous Pains collaborators: Jen Goma on “So True” (A Sunny Day in Glasgow), bass guitar by Jacob Danish Sloan (Dream Diary), and horns by Kelly Pratt (Beirut, David Byrne, St. Vincent). The Pains of Being Pure at Heart live band consists of long-time guitarist Christoph Hochheim (Ablebody, ex-Depreciation Guild), bassist Jacob Danish Sloan, drummer Chris Schackerman (ex-Mercury Girls, ex-Literature) and vocalist/keyboardist Jess Rojas. The band will tour the UK in late May, returning to New York for Northside Festival in June (see full list of dates below). The Echo of Pleasure arrives Sept. 1TOUR DATES:

RUN THE JEWELS EXTEND RUN THE WORLD TOUR; INCLUDING DATES WITH DANNY BROWN, DENZEL CURRY, & CUZ LIGHTYEAR
Run The Jewels have extended their "Run The World" tour with new dates including a run in the UK and Europe with Detroit rap maverick and very special guest Danny Brown and a new set of US dates with Denzel Curry and Cuz Lightyear. Tickets go on sale Friday, June 16.
Since the surprise Christmas release of Run The Jewels' incendiary third album, Run The Jewels 3, the powerhouse pair have continued to go from strength to strength. Their ongoing Run The World tour has seen them rampage through a 36-date run in North America culminating in four sold out shows at New York's Terminal 5, play their biggest ever venues in Europe including a triumphant gig at London's Roundhouse, and continue to comprehensively tear down major festivals (including Primavera, Field Day and, just yesterday, Parklife).
This weekend the guys were honored with two A2IM Libera Awards (for Rap/Hip Hop Album of the Year & Video of the Year for their DJ Shadow collaboration "Nobody Speak"). The duo have also made multiple forays into film over the past few weeks including the release of "Chase Me" (a collaboration with Dangermouse and Big Boi for the Baby Driver soundtrack), inclusion in the new Baywatch film, and a prominent placement in the trailer for the forthcoming Black Panthe r film.
Run The Jewels are also up for multiple Cannes Lions for their Gears of War 4 integration (the guys are available as playable characters in the game), and will be speaking at the festival on June 21 to announce a new creative content collaboration.
