Meet the Long Beach and New Orleans chefs of Music Tastes Good's Taste Tent!

TICKETS AND MORE INFO HERE!

Long Beach and New Orleans are both port cities with rich musical pasts-hot jazz vs. Sublime, anyone?-and their respective chefs are breaking ground as well.Visit Music Taste's Good Taste Tent on both days for sample dishes, daily demos, Q&A sessions and more. It's a port-to-port culinary experience with award-winning chefs from both cities.     Long Beach Arthur GonzalesDespite his years cooking in Santa Fe, N.M., chef Arthur Gonzales-the owner of Southwest-focused Panxa-is also a seafood savant. He recently opened phase two of his corner fish market Roe., a modern seafood concept called Roe Restaurant, where sustainability and creativity anchors all. David MacLennanAs executive chef of James Republic, David MacLennan combines fresh ingredients with locally-grown vegetables to make seasonal small plates in the East Village Arts District. His decades of experience in hotel and fine dining shows: he runs one of the city's only true farm-to-table restaurants. Gus SverkosKafe Neo calls itself "An American Kitchen With Greek Soul," which serves as an apt description for owner and chef Gus Sverkos too. The son of Greek immigrants who owned a successful auto repair shop on 4th Street, Sverkos and his brother converted the space into a restaurant in 2007 and have been serving the neighborhood with Mediterranean favorites ever since. Khanh HoangAfter seeing the not-always-so-edible food that some hospitals serve to patients, chef Khanh Hoang (who moonlights as a nurse) started a pop-up dinner series where she could share her eclectic home cooking style with others. Company of Khanh now hosts an event every month or so, filling up backyards, parks and other flexible spaces with her family, friends and fans. Luis NavarroFew restaurants in Long Beach are as loved as Lola's Mexican Cuisine, the Retro Row restaurant bearing the name and recipes of chef Luis Navarro's Guadalajaran mother, who taught her son how to cook early on. Across the street, Navarro expanded his palate with The Social List, a Euro-inspired cafe with a beverage program to match. Paul BuchananChef Paul Buchanan has been preaching farm-to-table before the term was even well-known, taking kids on local farm tours and using only sustainable, organic ingredients for hisPrimal Alchemy Catering events, where he creates custom menus for clients across Southern California. He'll also be MCing the Taste Tent on both days!  Wes LieberherWhen a chef is known for a dish called Death by Duck Fries-fried in duck fat, topped with duck confit-you know he's not going for the healthy angle. At the second location for iconic L.A. gastropub Beer Belly, local craft beer mingles with chef Wes Lieberher's penchant for extreme food and over-the-top flavors. Sugar SungkameeIn L.A., the Southern Thai restaurant Jitlada is revered for its authentic dishes and so-spicy-it-hurts curries. Sugar Sungkamee grew up in the kitchen there learning her father's recipes, many of which she brings to Spicy Sugar, her late-night Thai restaurant in the heart of the Gayborhood.   Philip PrettyEvery season, chef Philip Pretty changes the entire menu at Restauration, the 4th Street bistro that's mostly patio seating (surrounded by wall gardens of herbs and vegetables for the kitchen). Pretty is a Long Beach native but spent a decade in L.A., working at high-profile kitchens, including fundamental LA and Michelin-starred restaurants like Providence and Joe's. New Orleans Alfredo NogueiraThis musician-turned-chef-most recently of the shuttered Cafe Henri in the changing Bywater neighborhood-Alfredo Nogueira cut his teeth cooking bold New Orleans classics in Chicago before returning home. Known for his exquisite fried chicken, he's just landed as the Executive Chef for Cane & Table, part of the Cure Restaurant group. Collin CormierNo chef has more pride in the city of Lafayette, La., than Collin Cormier. The one-time food truck owner now runs Pop's Poboys (named one of Bon Appetit's Best New Restaurant 2016), and founded the Acadiana Po-Boy Festival, where last year a record was set for the longest po'boy at 367 feet. Todd PulsinelliChef Todd Pulsinelli is the executive chef at Restaurant August, long one of the best fine dining spots in the city. Owned by the famed New Orleans chef John Besh, August is where talents like Pulsinelli cook food inspired by Southeast Louisiana cuisine, but are never bound by it. Fun fact: he also has a rap album, which dropped last month. Michael GulottaChef Michael Gulotta's MoPho could easily be an L.A. invention: a strip mall fusion Vietnamese joint that combines both locavore and immigrant flavors. And now the Food and Wine-named Best New Chef has opened a new experiment called Maypop, an even more refined take on his characteristically imaginative cuisine. Melissa MartinChef Melissa Martin grew up among a family of longtime fishermen in the close-knit Cajun bayou town of Chauvin, La. She brings the spirit of her home-and supports her family and friends who still fish-some 70 miles away to New Orleans each week, with her popular family-style Mosquito Supper Club, which pops up in the city's Garden District. Mason HerefordSpunky, curious and hopelessly nostalgic for the sandwiches (and pop culture) of his youth, chef Mason Hereford took his years of creative fine-dining experience and opened the stoner's paradise Turkey and the Wolf in New Orleans last year. Hereford's style is so profound, the kooky counter-service sandwich shop was named Bon Appetit's Best New Restaurant of 2017. Isaac ToupsElevating the deep, rustic flavors of his native cuisine, Isaac Toups is among a new generation of local chefs who are changing the way Louisiana eats Cajun. After years working at Emeril Lagasse's fine dining New Orleans restaurants, he opened Toup's Meatery, which earned him two James Beard Award nominations for "Best Chef of the South." Kelly FieldsKelly Fields made her mark on New Orleans by climbing the ladder as a high-end pastry chef at chef John Besh's inimitable restaurant group. Today, she makes simple food like cookies and toast at her Besh-partnered restaurant Willa Jean and is a James Beard nominee for the nation's most Outstanding Pastry Chef.

Tori Amos Releases New Album 'Native Invader' On Decca Records Today, NPR Morning Edition

TORI AMOS

New Studio Album Native Invader
Released  Today On Decca Records

NPR Morning Edition  +  Pitchfork “Over/Under”

North American Fall Tour

Purchase Native Invader

"Part swagger, part reflection, it both smolders and shimmers ..." –  NPR Music

“She's been called various forms of otherworldly throughout the years, but as she again proves on her new album, Amos is very much of this world. This is just what a person sounds like when she refuses to give up on it.” –  Lenny Letter

"The strength of this album, and the 14 that precede it, is the immense healing and soothing found in the sheer beauty of Amos’ vocal delivery. To just sit and let her voice wash over you, floating you away to a nicer part of the pool, is very much welcome right now."   Consequence of Sound

Tori Amos releases her highly anticipated new album,  Native Invader , today on Decca Records. Amos previously shared album tracks “Cloud Riders” “Up The Creek” and “Reindeer King” to a swell of excitement and the new record has received acclaim from Rolling StonePitchforkNPRConsequence of SoundLenny LetterStereogum and much more. At the centre of Native Invader is this theme of division and with the new body of work available in its entirety today, Amos looks forward to unifying fans & allies on the road. Tori Amos’ extensive North American fall concert schedule kicks off on October 24 as part of a larger world tour which begins in September in Europe.

Following 2014’s Unrepentant Geraldines – her eighth Billboard Top 10 album -- Amos’s fifteenth studio album is an intense feast of melody, protest, tenderness and pain. In the summer of 2016, she took a road trip through North Carolina’s Smoky Mountains. The intention was to reconnect with the stories and songlines of her mother’s family, who were from the North Carolina and Tennessee Smoky Mountain area. That winter, two seismic events knocked the plan off its axis. The fall out from the US Election. And in January her mother, Maryellen Amos, suffered a severe stroke leaving her unable to speak.

A pioneer across multiple platforms, Tori was the first major label artist to offer a single for download. Nominated for multiple Grammy Awards, she has had her songs turned into graphic novels and has produced ground-breaking videos throughout her career. In late 2016 she released the title song ‘Flicker’ to the acclaimed Netflix documentary ‘Audrie and Daisy’, addressing issues of high school rape. A noted humanitarian, Tori is co-founder of RAINN (Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network), which is the United States’ largest anti-sexual assault organization.

Listen To "Undersea" The New Single From The Church

The Church Release New Single "Undersea"   Listen Here https://open.spotify.com/album/7Jy7vNfA4iET86jNOb7tGY   North American Tour Begins Today  September 8, 2017 – Another Century, another dream, another album from a band that's in too deep to go anywhere but ever closer to the other side.  Man Woman Life Death Infinity  is the 26th album by the Church and will be released on October 6th. The album is their second with the rejuvenated line-up Steve Kilbey, Peter Koppes, Tim Powles and Ian Haug. The epic return of 2014's critically lauded  Further/ Deeper  blossomed into a road-hardened beast over four tours of the USA, two back home in Australia, and a new career high in front of 20,000 Spanish fans on a lap of Europe.  Man Woman Life Death Infinity  is where the revitalized quartet's freshly tuned chemistry reaches a new potency and precision: ten songs, 45 minutes, and a quantum leap into unexplored territory as strange as it is irresistible. "Music is like inner space and we're astronauts," says guitarist Koppes, who co-founded the Church in Sydney in 1980. "It's a spellbinding thing. It's hypnotizing. That's why people like it. It takes them into another world and we're here to open those doors." "This is the Church's water record," says Kilbey, singer, lyricist and bassist. "I guess water is my element. I've always marveled at the sea and rivers and rain. It wasn't conscious at all but on reflection, it definitely is a preoccupation on this record. What that means, I don't know." The band have now releasd the deeply chiming second single ‘Undersea.'  Listen here: https://open.spotify.com/album/7Jy7vNfA4iET86jNOb7tGY The track is the ominously descending result of Kilbey's suggestion that the band should pretend to be another one altogether, like Sgt. Pepper wilfully choosing the brown acid. "Tim borrowed my son's little electronic drum kit," Haug reveals, "so we had a mutated kit, half acoustic/ half electric, and we were just firing off each other.” "Peter is like the mad professor of guitar theory. I've learned a lot from him over the last few years but I'm not trying to analyze the harmonic integrity of anything. If it sounds good, I'll keep going down that path. I think we complement each other really well in that way." Fans who pre-order the album will receive both “Undersea” and “Another Century” as instant grat tracks. The Church begin an extensive 29-date North American tour in support of Man Woman Life Death Infinity beginning tonight in Portland, OR.  Special guests The Helio Sequence will be direct support on all dates.   Man Woman Life Death Infinity  Track Listing Another CenturySubmarineFor King KnifeUnderseaBefore The DelugeI Don’t Know How I Don’t Know WhyA Face In A FilmIn Your FogSomething Out There Is WrongDark WaltzFor up to date information visit:http://thechurchband.nethttp://www.theheliosequence.com   The Church North American Fall Tour With Special Guest The Helio Sequence 9/8/2017          Portland, OR               Revolution Hall          9/9/2017          Seattle, WA                 Neptune Theater         9/10/2017        Vancouver, BC            Rickshaw Theater9/12/2017        Sacramento, CA          Harlow's         9/13/2017        Santa Cruz, CA           The Catalyst   9/14/2017        San Francisco, CA      The Fillmore   9/15/2017        Los Angeles, CA         Fonda Theater9/16/2017        San Diego, CA            The Music Box          9/18/2017        Austin, TX                  3Ten   9/19/2017        Dallas, TX                   Kessler Theater9/20/2017        Houston, TX               Heights Theater          9/22/2017        Pensacola, FL              Vinyl Music Hall       9/23/2017        Orlando, FL                The Social      9/24/2017        Atlanta, GA                 City Wintery   9/25/2017        Asheville, NC             The Grey Eagle          9/27/2017        New York, NY           Le Poisson Rouge      9/28/2017        Brooklyn, NY             The Bell House          9/29/2017        Natick, MA                 TCAN Center For The Arts   9/30/2017        Newton, NJ                 Newton Theatre          10/1/2017        Washington, DC         9:30 Club10/3/2017        Philadelphia, PA         Union Transfer10/5/2017        Detroit, MI                  Magic Stick    10/6/2017        Chicago, IL                 Park West       10/8/2017        Minneapolis, MN        Cedar Cultural Center10/10/2017      Omaha, NE                 The Waiting Room     10/11/2017      Denver, CO                 Gothic Theater10/12/2017      Salt Lake City, UT      The State Room10/13/2017      Las Vegas, NV            Brooklyn Bowl          10/14/2017      Phoenix, AZ                The Press Room

Sparks' critically acclaimed new record Hippopotamus is out Today

SPARKS RELEASE CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED NEW ALBUM  HIPPOPOTAMUS  OUT TODAY
TICKETS FOR U.S. TOUR DATES AVAILABLE NOW!

"With a propulsive, synth-driven drum sound and Russell's melodramatic voice and layers of backing vocals, keyboards and delightful trills, Sparks' music is campy-cinematic, drum-tight and joyous." -Paste Magazine
"One treats high art as nonsense, the other treats nonsense as high art: a perfect description, perhaps, of the cultural dialectic which drives Sparks' protean creativity." - The Independent - 5 stars
"Two hundred years from now, the dictionary definition for brilliantly eccentric pop will remain the same: Sparks" - MOJO - 4 stars
"Sparks remain all about tomorrow... [Hippopotamus] could lift them once more above the cult parapet" - Record Collector - 5 stars - Album of the Month
"No end of delights..." - Uncut - 8/10
"A truly magnificent record that showcases Sparks' many facets." "One of the finest albums of the year so far!" - Louder Than War Magazine - 9/10
"Fresh, inventive, quirky and instantly recognisable." "They're continually coming up with new ways to keep us intrigued." - Vive Le Rock - 9/10
"Sparks are true originals... the Mael brothers are back, and as delightfully oddball as ever...Hippopotamus represents everything you've come to love about Sparks, while demonstrating how it's never too late to join them..." -  Classic Pop - 4 stars
"It is, without question, a five-star classic...This is pop of an all-too rare form: clever, witty, and catchy as hell....Sparks remain a genuine treasure in this world of manual evacuation passed off as popular music." - Diffuser
"Hippopotamus (like all Sparks albums) often functions like a short story, with each song reaching a narrative or thematic conclusion that often leaves the listener amused and/or befuddled, but always the wiser of some little overlooked absurdity in life." - Under The Radar  - 8/10
Today, Sparks (Californian brothers Ron and Russell Mael) have released their critically acclaimed new album Hippopotamus - out now via BMG.
Recorded in Los Angeles, Hippopotamus sees Sparks take the pop form, shake it up, and create an album that is adventurous, fresh, and idiosyncratically 'Sparks.' BECK “Up All Night” NEWEST TRACK & EPIC VIDEO FROM COLORS

BECK“Up All Night”NEWEST TRACK & EPIC VIDEO FROM COLORSFOLLOW UP TO GRAMMY ALBUM OF THE YEAR MORNING PHASE OUT OCTOBER 13Pre-Order Live Now
Beck has issued an anthemic call to arms–and legs–with “Up All Night,” the irresistible new single and epic video one-two salvo in advance of his imminent 13th album and “euphoric blast of experimental pop” (ROLLING STONE), Colors – due out October 13 on Capitol Records. In keeping with the life-affirming spirit and groove of the song itself, the sweeping cinematic arc created by Director Canada, Executive Producer Oscar Romagosa and Producer Laura Serra Estorch features a narrative of triumph over hallucinogenic adversity. “Up All Night” tracks its fearless heroine (Solene Rigot) through an increasingly bizarre series of trials as she races against the sun-and at times the very rules of reality-to rescue a fallen friend (Pedro Attenborough).Having appeared in an earlier incarnation on the EA SPORTS FIFA 17 soundtrack, the buoyant “Up All Night” is the newest advance taste of the most aptly titled work in Beck’s storied discography. Beck’s first full length offering of new material since 2014’s Morning Phase took Album of the Year top honors at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards, Colors unfolds in an intoxicating rainbow of auditory tricks and treats, making it a shoo-in for the summeriest smash of the fall season. Prior to “Up All Night,” the album’s most recent single was the captivating piano-driven “Dear Life,” released August 24 and eliciting Beatles and Beach Boys comparisons from THE NEW YORK TIMES amongst a slew of generation spanning critical raves including:
“‘Dear Life’ makes good on Beck’s promise, with waltzing pianos, a killer guitar riff, and am immediately memorable chorus.”–ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY“Leave it to Beck to craft a sunny, upbeat pop song that doubles as a scream into the void… the kaleidoscopic new single from his forthcoming album, Colors, has something for partiers and wallflowers alike… when Beck asks on the buoyant chorus about the thrill being gone, the answer is: not yet-not in his career, not in this life-affirming song.”–PITCHFORK“Fans of Beck will have even more to love in the perennial hitmaker’s latest… a dark pop-rock sound that hints at influences from everyone from The Beatles to Spoon.”–TIME 5 Songs You Need To Listen To This WeekThe complete track listing for Colors is:Colors

The album was mixed by Serban Ghenea, except “Dreams” and “Up All Night,” which were mixed by Greg Kurstin and Beck.Beck recently accepted U2’s invitation to appear as special guest on the current leg of The Joshua Tree Tour 2017, on which he is supporting the band on stadium dates that began September 3 at Ford Field in Detroit and continue through September 22 at San Diego’s Qualcomm Stadium. Hundred Waters share "Wave To Anchor"

Hundred Waters have shared a new song "Wave To Anchor," the fourth single from their forthcoming album Communicating (out September 14 via OWSLA). The buoyant song demonstrates the band's equal willingness to indulge in explosive pop melodies as well as experimental production techniques, underscoring the tremendous strides in composition, performance, and confidence the band has made since their last album.

The Church To Release New Album On October 6th / Tour Begins Tomorrow

The Church To Release New Album Man Woman Life Death Infinity On October 6th North American Tour Begins This Friday New Single “Undersea” Out Tomorrow

September 7, 2017 – Another Century, another dream, another album from a band that's in too deep to go anywhere but ever closer to the other side.  Man Woman Life Death Infinity  is the 26th album by the Church and will be released on October 6th.The album is their second with the rejuvenated line-up Steve Kilbey, Peter Koppes, Tim Powles and Ian Haug. The epic return of 2014's critically lauded  Further/ Deeper  blossomed into a road-hardened beast over four tours of the USA, two back home in Australia, and a new career high in front of 20,000 Spanish fans on a lap of Europe. Man Woman Life Death Infinity  is where the revitalized quartet's freshly tuned chemistry reaches a new potency and precision: ten songs, 45 minutes, and a quantum leap into unexplored territory as strange as it is irresistible."Music is like inner space and we're astronauts," says guitarist Koppes, who co-founded the Church in Sydney in 1980. "It's a spellbinding thing. It's hypnotizing. That's why people like it. It takes them into another world and we're here to open those doors."

"This is the Church's water record," says Kilbey, singer, lyricist and bassist. "I guess water is my element. I've always marveled at the sea and rivers and rain. It wasn't conscious at all but on reflection, it definitely is a preoccupation on this record. What that means, I don't know."The band will release the deeply chiming second single ‘Undersea’ beginning tomorrow morning.  The track is the ominously descending result of Kilbey's suggestion that the band should pretend to be another one altogether, like Sgt. Pepper wilfully choosing the brown acid."Tim borrowed my son's little electronic drum kit," Haug reveals, "so we had a mutated kit, half acoustic/ half electric, and we were just firing off each other.”"Peter is like the mad professor of guitar theory. I've learned a lot from him over the last few years but I'm not trying to analyze the harmonic integrity of anything. If it sounds good, I'll keep going down that path. I think we complement each other really well in that way."

Fans who pre-order the album will receive both “Undersea” and “Another Century” as instant grat tracks. The Church begin an extensive 29-date North American tour in support of Man Woman Life Death Infinity beginning this Friday on September 8th in Portland, OR.  Special guests The Helio Sequence will be direct support on all dates.  Man Woman Life Death Infinity  Track Listing Another CenturySubmarineFor King KnifeUnderseaBefore The DelugeI Don’t Know How I Don’t Know WhyA Face In A FilmIn Your FogSomething Out There Is WrongDark WaltzFor up to date information visit:http://thechurchband.nethttp://www.theheliosequence.com
