Japanese Breakfast releases Japanese Breakquest, a RPG browser video game

JAPANESE BREAKFAST RELEASES JAPANESE BREAKQUEST
AN RPG BROWSER GAME FEATURING MIDI VERSIONSOF SOFT SOUNDS FROM ANOTHER PLANET
Today, Japanese Breakfast's Michelle Zauner has released a RPG browser game titled Japanese Breakquest. The video game, which Zauner designed with Elaine Fath, features midi versions of all the songs from Japanese Breakfast's critically acclaimed new album, Soft Sounds From Another Planet, out now via Dead Oceans. The songs play from room to room and are available in full for download if you beat the game.
Zauner detailed the video game in conversations with  Billboard  and  Polygon .
Set in space, the goal of the game is to collect pieces of the Machinist robot to help you defeat aliens trying to take over your ship. You can equip band merchandise and instruments, like a (Sandy) Alex G T shirt, or Frankie Cosmos' Dan Electro to raise your characters' stats and learn abilities like "Philly Indie Cred" and "Rip a Solo" to conquer your enemies.

ABOUT JAPANESE BREAKFAST:"The title Soft Sounds From Another Planet alludes to the promise of something that may or may not be there. Like a hope in something more. The songs are about human resilience and the strength it takes to claw out of the darkest of spaces." Michelle Zauner wrote the debut Japanese Breakfast album in the weeks after her mother died of cancer, thinking she would quit music entirely once it was done. That wasn't the case. WhenPsychopomp was released to acclaim in 2016, she was forced to confront her grief. Zauner would find find herself reliving traumatic memories multiple times a day during interviews, trying to remain composed while discussing the most painful experience of her life. Her sophomore album, Soft Sounds From Another Planet, is a transmutation of mourning, a reflection that turns back on the cosmos in search of healing. "I want to be a woman of regimen," Zauner sings over a burbling synth on the album's opening track "Diving Woman." This serves as Zauner's mission statement: stick to the routine lest you get derailed, don't cling to the past, don't descend. In fact, ascend to the stars; Zauner found artistic solace removed from Earth, in outer space and science fiction. "I used the theme as a means to disassociate from trauma," she explains. "Space used as a place of fantasy." And yet, Soft Sounds From Another Planet isn't a concept album. Over the course of 12 tracks, Zauner explores an expansive thematic universe, a cohesive outpouring of unlike parts structured to create a galaxy of her own design. In the instrumental "Planetary Ambience," synths communicate the way extraterrestrials might, and on the shapeshifting single "Machinist,"  which Zauner has been performing live for over a year now, she details the sci-fi narrative of a woman falling in love with a machine. "It's pure fiction," she explains, "But it can map onto real relationships in a relevant way." The track, which begins with spoken-word ambience, moves into autotune '80s pop bliss and ends with a sultry saxophone solo, perfectly marries the experience: there's a perceptible humanity in mechanical, bodily events. Within its astral production, much of Soft Sounds From Another Planet stays grounded. "Road Head" is the last chest compression in attempt to resuscitate a doomed relationship, while the penultimate track "This House" is an acoustic dirge that honors Zauner's chosen family. The baroque pop "Boyish" has a haunting, crystalline clarity that recalls the pathos of a Roy Orbison ballad, while "Body is a Blade" embraces the dark intimacy of Zauner's Pacific Northwest heroes Elliott Smith and Mount Eerie. With help from co-producer Craig Hendrix (who also co-produced Little Big League's debut) and Jorge Elbrecht, (Ariel Pink, Tamaryn) who mixed the album, Zauner recontextualizes her bedroom pop beginnings, expanding and maturing her sound. The sheer massiveness of the big room production onSoft Sounds From Another Planet introduces listeners to a new Japanese Breakfast. Zauner's familiar, capacious voice will serve as their guide. "Your body is a blade that moves while your brain is writhing," she sings. "Knuckled under pain you mourn but your blood is flowing." There's discernible pain in the phrasing, Zauner recognizing limitation, a lack of control, but then subverting the feeling, creating her own musical language for confronting trauma. Where Psychopomp introduced the world to Japanese Breakfast, Soft Soundsdives deeper. It builds space where there is none, and suggests that in the face of tragedy, we find ways to keep on living. .TOUR DATES:9/14 - Houston, TX @ Walter's +9/15 - Austin, TX @ Barracuda +9/16 - Dallas, TX @ RBC +9/18 - Phoenix, AZ @ Valley Bar +9/20 - Los Angeles, CA @ The Echo +9/21 - San Francisco, CA @ Swedish American Hall +9/22 - Oakland, CA @ Starline Social Club +9/23 - Eugene, OR @ HiFi +9/25 - Portland, OR @ Holocene +9/26 - Vancouver, BC @ Fox Cabaret +9/27 - Seattle, WA @ Crocodile +9/28 - Boise, ID @ Neurolux +9/29 - Salt Lake City @ Kilby Court +9/30 - Denver, CO @ Larimer Lounge +10/2 - Minneapolis, MN @ The Triple Rock +10/4 - Chicago, IL @ Subterranean +10/5 - Bloomington, IN @ The Bishop +10/6 - Detroit, MI @ UFO Factory +10/7 - Toronto, ON @ The Garisson +10/8 - Montreal, QC @ Bar Le Ritz PDB +10/11 - Cambridge, MA @ The Sinclair +10/12 - Brooklyn, NY @ Music Hall of Williamsburg +10/21 - Bristol, GB @ Simple Things Festival10/23 - Cologne, DE @ Blue Shell10/24 - Hamburg, DE @ Hakken10/25 - Berlin, DE @ Badenhouse10/26 - Paris, FR @ Pop Up Du Label10/27 - Gent, BE @ NEST10/28 - Amsterdam, NL @ London Calling11/2 - Brighton, GB @ The Joker11/3 - Manchester, GB @ Soup Kitchen11/4 - Edinburgh, GB @ The Mash House11/5 - Glasgow, GB @ The Hug and Pint11/6 - Leeds, GB @ Headrow House11/7 - London, GB @ The Dome Tufnell Park

HUNDRED WATERS NEW ALBUM COMMUNICATING OUT NOW

HUNDRED WATERS NEW ALBUMCOMMUNICATING OUT NOW INTERNATIONAL TOUR KICKS OFF THIS MONTH LISTEN TO THE ALBUM NOWhttp://hwtrs.co/mmunicating
Hundred Waters have just released their long awaited new full length,  Communicating  via longtime label OWSLA. The product of three years of labor (a period that was so fruitful it yielded the additional five song  Currency  EP that dropped this past May), Communicating is a grand and ambitious album whose reserved and masterful executions illustrate the leap in composition, performance, and confidence the band has undergone in the three years since 2014's  The Moon Rang Like a Bell.  The album's eleven tracks display an increased focus on songwriting, while also featuring more boldly experimental production than the band's previous works. The material benefits from a pristine and powerful mix by Rich Costey (Sigur RósDeath Cab For CutieTV On The Radio) and visionary art direction by Brian Roettinger (Beach HouseSt. Vincent). "From a broad lens," Miglis says, "the album is a breakup. It starts with a need for independence and it ends with an 'all better,' like we did it: we learned, we loved, we separated, and now it's time for the next chapter." The band head out on an international tour later this month, full dates below and tickets available here: http://hwtrs.co/tour  The trio's ambitions are evinced not only in scope of their music, but also in the ever-expanding FORM Arcosanti arts and music festival they organize and curate annually in Arizona. FORM just celebrated its fourth year, including performances from such marquee names as Father John MistySolange,Future Islands, and Mount Eerie, while still maintaining the intimate and communal atmosphere that has been a hallmark of all Hundred Waters' efforts to date. In addition to digital streaming platforms Communicating is available to preorder now in various physical iterations, including a CD version, a single LP version, and a special "sequined" 2xLP edition that includes the recently issued Currency EP. Physical editions are expected in 4-6 weeks, pre-orders are available here: http://hwtrs.co/preorder

SELECT PRESS QUOTES ON COMMUNICATING "Hundred Waters' music tugs like a loose thread, every shifting emotion illuminated by synths and beats that tug just a little harder." - NPR "The eerie electronic three-piece Hundred Waters... returns with a third record that's both muted and mesmerizing in the way it marries the band's perfectionist sound design with chilly, lovelorn ballads that edge into unfamiliar, pop-influenced territory." - BOSTON GLOBE "An intriguing record that pushes boundaries, Communicating proves why Hundred Waters are always worth paying attention to." - CONSEQUENCE OF SOUNDHundred Waters by Lenne Chai   COMMUNICATING  TRACK LIST 1. Jessie Ware Releases New Song "Alone" Today; New Album Available October 20th via PMR / Friends Keep Secrets / Interscope Records

JESSIE WARE’S NEW ALBUM,  GLASSHOUSE , DUE OCTOBER 20 IS NOW AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER    NEW SONG, “ALONE,” AVAILABLE FOR INSTANT DOWNLOAD TO THOSE WHO PRE-ORDER, ALONG WITH “SELFISH LOVE” AND “MIDNIGHT” Image
September 14th, 2017 — (Santa Monica, CA) —  Glasshouse , the eagerly awaited new album from three-time BRIT Award nominee Jessie Ware is now available for  pre-order from all participating retailers. Those who pre-order the album will receive instant downloads of the previously released “Midnight” and “Selfish Love” as well as the new track,“Alone,” which Ware co-wrote with Kid Harpoon (HAIM, Florence + the Machine).  Listen to “Alone”  HERE . The album features 12 tracks, with an additional 5 on the deluxe version.
Of “Alone,” the London-born singer / songwriter says: “I’m so happy to be reunited with Kid Harpoon on this one. It’s a song about stealing time with your loved one, and longing for the simple declaration that they want the same.”
“Alone” is the third track to be released from Glasshouse, which is due from PMR Records / Friends Keep Secrets / Interscope Records on October 20th. The new album marks a thematic departure from Ware’s second album, 2014’s  Tough Love . A tender, candid exploration of family life, Glasshouse was largely shaped by the 2016 birth of Ware’s first child, and by the sometimes painful soul-searching that marked that transformative moment. “It became an album for my husband and my baby,” she says. “It’s an apology, a confession, a love note, a declaration. It shows all my fears and all of my emotion.”
With its sonic palette encompassing everything from jazz improvisations to hypnotic house beats, Glasshouse expands on the genre-blurring sophistication that Ware has embodied since the 2012 release of her Mercury Prize-nominated debut  Devotion , which was one of the most critically lauded albums of that year. Recorded with her longtime friend Benny Blanco (Halsey, Icona Pop, Charli XCX), Glasshouse also finds her pairing up with Felix and Hugo White (The Maccabees), Ed Sheeran, and Norwegian DJ/ producer Cashmere Cat.  Ware has sculpted a dynamic new sound while still mining her classic sensibilities.
In an advance preview of GlasshouseEntertainment Weekly calls it Ware’s “most powerful and vulnerable LP yet,” while the New York Times called her “one of pop’s subtlest powerhouses” in its Pop and Jazz Fall preview. Of “Midnight,” Pitchfork writes that “Ware’s performance captures all the magic and terror that comes with totally yielding your heart to someone else. This is Ware’s gift: She takes those rare moments where the stakes are irreversibly raised, and imbues them with the drama and elegance they deserve.”

CLOAKROOM DEBUT "BIG WORLD" VIDEO, ADD TOUR DATES

CLOAKROOM DEBUT "BIG WORLD" VIDEO, ADD DATES TO FALL TOUR IN SUPPORT OF NEW ALBUM TIME WELL WATCH THE VIDEO FOR "BIG WORLD" HERE:https://youtu.be/pQWEg4nCMS0

Northwest Indiana's Cloakroom have added an additional west coast run to their previously announced Fall tour dates in support of their recently released sophomore album  Time Well . In conjunction with the announcement the band have shared a new video for album track "Big World." Directed by Cloakroom bassist Robert Markos, the clip evokes a child-led pagan ritual, unexpectedly finding a parallel in the trio's unique amalgam of smotheringly heavy sonics, gauzy textures, and forlorn melodies. The tour will kick off at the end of September with an east coast run followed by the new west coast dates in November (full dates below). Grandiose and deeply insular, Time Well is a work that transcends simple genre descriptors as the trio prove dually capable of conjuring lumbering walls of sound as well as forlorn Americana. For the new material, the trio (consisting of vocalist-guitarist Doyle Martin, bassist Robert Markos, and drummer Brian Busch) opted to explore their shared creative space by building their own studio, transforming their practice space into a sonic laboratory in which they could immerse themselves in every aspect of the creative process. It's a record that's flanked by contradictory ideas that are always running parallel; growth begets destruction begets death. It's an unending cycle, and Time Well is the soundtrack to that unending, awe-inspiring momentum.  WATCH THE VIDEO FOR "SEEDLESS STAR"https://youtu.be/0_aUhjGjJnY

“Highway Queen is a forceful, rollicking collection of fiery country tunes that places [Lane] toe-to-toe with any outlaw in Nashville."–Rolling Stone Country

Nikki Lane’s critically acclaimed third album, Highway Queen, is out now via New West Records and available digitally, on compact disc, LP, and cassette HEREEntertainment Weekly is premiering a new, “heartwarming” video for the album’s second radio single “Send The Sun” today HERE. Highlighted by Vice’s music site Noiseyprior to the album’s release in an in-depth feature exclaiming, “[Highway Queen] is her best yet,” “Send The Sun” emerged as a standout track that MTV News praises as “a waltzing love song that could be Lane’s best shot at a mainstream country crossover hit, if that’s even what she wants.” Lane performed an acoustic rendition of the song earlier this year for CBS This Morning Saturday from country legend Loretta Lynn’s historic home in Hurricane Mills, which can be seen HERE. Lane also joined Lynn for a special duet of her own 1966 hit song “Don't Come Home a Drinkin’ (With Lovin’ On Your Mind).” Lane will host High Class Hillbilly presents Where Is The Hideout?tomorrow night in Nashville at American Legion, and she will also perform at Pilgrimage Festival next Saturday, September 23, along with Justin Timberlake, Eddie Vedder, Ryan Adams and more. This Fall, Lane will embark on an extensive U.S. tour with labelmate JD McPherson, followed by a Stagecoach Spotlight tour with Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real. Please see below for full tour details.

Lane celebrated the release of Highway Queen with a debut performance on Conan of the album’s first single “Jackpot.” Billboard previously premiered the music video for “Jackpot,” which Rolling Stone included in their “Our Favorite Songs Right Now” roundup calling it “a trip to Vegas you won't forget.” Watch the video HERE.Entertainment Weekly also featured an exclusive, full stream of the “boisterous" and "raucous" album; andAmerican Songwriter reviewed, “Highway Queen is her best yet, and should cement her status as the rightful heir to icons like Wanda Jackson and Loretta Lynn.” UNCUT gave the album 8 out of 10 stars, adding, "Clearly not short on confidence, the self-styled 'First Lady Of Outlaw Country' belongs to the same forcible bunch of dissidents as the similarly brash Lydia Loveless or Caitlin Rose, though she also exudes a Southern smokiness that aligns her to Lucinda Williams or vintage Wanda Jackson. She is, in fact, as much bluesy rock'n'roll as she is country..." Rolling Stone Country originally announced the release of Highway Queen by revealing the music video for the title track, which can be seen HERE, commenting, "[Lane's] breed of country is as futuristic as it is Seventies outlaw, probably because she's more intent on invention than emulation."

Following Lane’s Walk of Shame debut and 2014’s Dan Auerbach-produced All or Nothin’Highway Queen was co-produced by Lane and fellow singer-songwriter Jonathan Tyler and features The Texas Gentlemen as Lane’s band. A Greenville, South Carolina native, Lane is also a fashion entrepreneur as the owner of the popular vintage clothing boutique High Class Hillbilly. She has lived - and been heartbroken in - Los Angeles, New York and Nashville, so it’s no surprise that her music seamlessly crosses musical genres with lyrics steeped in the doomed perseverance only a true dark horse romantic knows. Like a true wanderer, her sound crisscrosses musical genres with ease, while the lonesome romantic in her remains. “Love is the most unavoidable thing in the world,” Lane says. “The person you pick could be half set-up to destroy your life with their own habits -- I’ve certainly experienced that before and taken way too long to get out of that mistake.”

Jessi Zazu (Those Darlins) has passed away at age 28.

It is with heavy hearts that we confirm that Jessi Zazu, vocalist for Nashville band Those Darlins,  passed away around 4pm on Tuesday, September 12, 2017. She was 28 years old. The cause of death was cervical cancer.   Zazu died surrounded by family, friends and fellow musicians who lined the waiting room inside Centennial Hospital's intensive care unit.
Jessi emerged on the local music scene as a teenager, joining Nikki Kvarnes and Kelley Anderson to form Those Darlins in 2008. Linwood Regensburg become the 4th official member soon after.  The band launched its own label Oh Wow Dang with the help of their manager John Turner and Nashville's Thirty Tigers.  The band's ferocious DIY spirit helped establish that the local music scene was more than just country.
Those Darlins' first EP Wild One was released in 2008 followed by their self-titled debut LP the following year.  They went onto record two more albums, Screws Get Loose (2011) and Blur The Line (2013), along with several EPs and singles. The band's music spanned many genres, often sounding on early recordings like a punk rock version of the Carter Family.  Since their inception local music fans were captivated and the band began touring ferociously, multiplying their following across the nation.  Until her death Zazu remained a vital part of the Nashville scene, cheering on other young musicians like Adia Victoria, Ariel Bui, and Idle Bloom (all of whom whom she designed art for) and so many countless others.
Those Darlins went on official hiatus in late 2015 and in early 2016, just weeks after finishing the band's farewell tour, Jessi was diagnosed with cervical cancer.  Since her diagnosis Jessi continued to work on music alongside the tireless efforts ofRegensburg.  We hope to soon share more details on the music they were making leading up to her passing.
Throughout her career Jessi was actively involved in social justice.  For over a decade she also worked with the Southern Girls Rock and Roll Camp, which she attended first as a camper. This past year Jessi and the camp set up an "Ain't Afraid Scholarship" that went to all campers that applied. Jessi said,"Attending these camps as a young person really gave me the tools I needed to blossom creatively in safe and encouraging environments. After attending camp for 4 years and volunteering for the last 11 years, it's something near and dear to my heart...Every year I meet more and more young kids who are so thoughtful, caring, considerate, aware and full of so much enthusiasm for the future...[Rock Camp] really changes their lives to have an outlet to express themselves and learn about how to navigate a world such as the one we live in."
Outside of her music, Zazu also focused on her art and was included in a show this past June at the Julia Martin Gallery where her work as well as her mother Kathy Wariner's were displayed. She also contributed work to Vanderbilt's Cancer Center. At the time she noted, "I wanted it to be something that was inspiring to people because I looked around in the waiting rooms and I could see there were a lot of people who looked like they were having a hard time. It's not always about being able to land a punch; it's being able to take a punch. Not just that, but take a break and have your team come in and fix yourself back up." Jessi also designed the book jacket and illustrations for music critic and NPR correspondent Ann Powers' recent book Good Booty.
To cover her medical bills Zazu eventually had to set up a YouCaring page to help defray the costs.  In true Jessi spirit she  documented shaving her head and also designed t-shirts that said, "Ain't Afraid" in stark red letters. Sales from the shirts helped raise over $50,000 toward her medical bills.
Zazu is survived by her mother Kathy Wariner, her father David Wariner and her brothers Emmett Wariner and Oakley Wariner.
A memorial fund is being set up for a public memorial. Details on both will be supplied shortly.  A statement from Linwood Regensburg follows. From the desk of Linwood and Those Darlins HQ:
Yesterday I said goodbye to my best friend, long time partner in crime and hero, Jessi Zazu Wariner.
She maintained a sense of humor and a commanding presence up until and through her final moments. She was in the company of those who cared deeply about her and who she cared deeply about.
Shout-out to your contagious spirit that inspired all who crossed it. Shout-out to the creative dynamo who continued to flourish even against insurmountable odds. Shout-out to all the little triumphs over the last 16 months. Shout-out to the ridiculous van rides and the fights and to the fact that we never turned our backs on one another over the last decade. Shout-out to the dreams we made and the ones left to come. And shout-out to all of you who have supported her until the end.

GOLDFRAPP REVEAL NEW VIDEO FOR "EVERYTHING IS NEVER ENOUGH"; TOUR BEGINS THIS WEEK

GOLDFRAPP REVEAL NEW VIDEO FOR “EVERYTHING IS NEVER ENOUGH

NORTH AMERICAN TOUR BEGINS SATURDAY

HOLLYWOOD BOWL SHOW WITH NEW ORDER ON SEPTEMBER 18Photo: Alison Goldfrapp “Silver Eye  is a synthesis — a combination of all the things the
group has done well.” – PITCHFORK

"...one of the band’s most stimulating albums, a perfect
piece of pop music." – POPMATTERS

"Goldfrapp's strongest album to date." – BUST

"...expansive...gorgeous..." – ROLLING STONE
Goldfrapp have revealed the video for their latest single “Everything is Never Enough.” The single is taken from their seventh studio album  Silver Eye  which was released earlier this year through Mute.

Watch Here:  http://po.st/GFEINEVideo

Alison led the creative for all of the visuals on the album and again played the role of director as well as art director for the new video. “Everything is Never Enough” showcases the stark desert terrain of the Fuerteventura landscape. When paired with the video’s transcendent natural imagery, Alison’s ethereal vocals and the track’s driving electronic beats act to unite the seemingly dichotomous realms of nature and modern culture.

Explaining the video, Alison says: “Fuerteventura, where mighty winds form land that grow and disappear…. Beauty and violence bond. The chair - a world he is running to and away from. I think volcanic and desert landscapes are the undefinable. They are life and death. Primal and mystical. They are a portal to the soul.”

The Silver Eye world tour kicks off on September 16th in San Francisco. The band also play a special Hollywood Bowl show in LA with New Order on the 18th. The tour’s European leg starts October 19th in Belgium and runs through November 10th when the band play London’s Brixton Academy, tickets on sale via Goldfrapp’s website.

Cults Release Video For "I Took Your Picture," New Album 'Offering' Out October 6 Via Sinderlyn, Tour Dates

CULTS RELEASE VIDEO FOR "I TOOK YOUR PICTURE"
OFFERING OUT OCTOBER 6 VIA SINDERLYN
NORTH AMERICAN TOUR ON SALE SUPPORT ANNOUNCED!
Watch the video for "I Took Your Picture"
Cults will release their highly anticipated new album Offering on October 6, and yesterday, they premiered their latest video for single "I Took Your Picture" via  Billboard . They wrote, "In the newly-released video for the track, the indie pop act amps up the surrealism with a shoot that involves a vibrantly lit living room transforming into a room built out of hair and a visual manifestation of their signature dense rhythm section in the form of vocalist Madeline Follin's constant headbanging. Despite the implicit rock vibes of the video, the song finds the band on a new wave kick that softens the edges from the rock-centric set on 2013's Static."
The video, directed by Elliott Sellers, was shot in Piermont, NY, where Cults first recorded Go Outside and their first EP. The ending scene was shot on top of Brian Oblivion's roof in NYC.
"I Took Your Picture" follows the release of the title track from the record. Consequence of Sound described it as "glittery, synth-laden" and SPIN wrote, "Washed in warm synths and thick, weighty drums, "Offering" cuts straight to the heart of what makes a Cults' track great, as singer Madeline Follin offers breathy, reflective vocals."
Offering will be released on October 6 via Sinderlyn and it marks the band's first LP since 2013's Static. In support of Offering, Cults will be touring North America with dates starting October 14 in Philadelphia.  Highlights include Brooklyn's Music Hall Of Williamsburg on October 17 and the Teragram Ballroom in Los Angeles on November 7.  The tour concludes November 19 in Baltimore, MD.  Cullen Omori supports from October 14th to November 1st; Curls support from November 3 to November 7; and She-Devils support from November 9 through November 19th.  Advance tickets in participating markets come with a download redemption of the album. The band are also playing Hartford, CT's Small State Great Beer Brewfestand on September 16.  All dates are listed below and tickets on sale now.

Early Acclaim for Offering:
"The lyrics are pure romance. It also benefits from a dreamy-sounding chorus - perfect for the last of these summer days."  Hollywood Life on "I Took Your Picture"
"If "I Took Your Picture" is any indication, their upcoming album may continue to feature the hazy-guitar and high-pitched vocals for which they are known."  Baeble
"
The new single is heavy on the shimmery, synth vibes - piled with layers upon layers of background 8-bit fuzz, with Madeline Folin's pure, ethereal vocals slicing through the static psych atmosphere." The Key WPXN  on "Offering"
"A mysterious and dark theme, guided by heavy bass and drum beats and lead singer Madeleine Follin's unmistakably angelic vocals." MXDWN on "Offering"
"Take this one out on a night drive, when the world feels alive. Welcome back, Cults."Revolt TV on "Offering"
"An eye-catching move away from what's become the classic Cults sound."  Grimy Goods on "Offering"
"If there's one thing Cults know how to do, it's craft an undeniable hit." Austin Town Hall

Alvvays Release New Video for "Dreams Tonite," New Album Out Now

ALVVAYS RELEASE NEW VIDEO FOR"DREAMS TONITE"
NEW ALBUM  ANTISOCIALITES  OUT NOW ON POLYVINYL  Watch the video for "Dreams Tonite" Antisocialites is the superb new album from Alvvays and has already received critical acclaim across the board with many hailing it as one of the most exciting records to drop this fall.Today, the band have shared the video for the highly contagious single "Dreams Tonite," a track which is currently making serious waves on streaming services. Matt Johnson, who directed the video, had this to say:
"The first thing I thought when Alvvays played "Dreams Tonite" for me in their studio (which is packed wall to wall with gear built before they were born) was that this music is from another time. It sounds like a rediscovered classic that was way ahead of its time, so the video had to be about time travel.
I got addicted to 60's film aesthetics making my last movie and this was the perfect excuse to revisit that world. The footage shot by the National Film Board during Expo67 is an unknown masterpiece of Canadian cinema - of course we had to hide Alvvays in it. By using the same cameras and film as the Nfb in '67 we found a way to put Molly and company on stage at the biggest festival our country has ever seen. See if you can find them all!"
The band tell us, "Canada was at its coolest fifty years ago in Montreal at Expo '67. The National Film Board caught a young country at its most iconic on sweet saturated 16mm. We fetishize retro-futurism and are thrilled our buddy Matt Johnson was able to facilitate our half-century temporal trip back to peak pop and op. And this video introduces our new drummer, so please meet Sheridan."
Tickets for the upcoming Alvvays North American tour are selling fast, all dates are listed below.
Acclaim for Antisocialites:"The second album from the Toronto indie pop band is nothing but thoroughly accomplished songs. Alvvays have sharpened their focus without losing sight of themselves." Pitchfork
"Shellacking a tight pop number in feedback is a worn recipe for success, but in the hands of Molly Rankin, Alvvay's noisy rock is an unexpected gift." New York Magazine
"Full of fuzzy-guitar beauty and shoegazing romanticism." Rolling Stone
"For all the noisy textures and shimmering sing-alongs on Antisocialites, Alvvays seem intent on masking pain while convincing others, and perhaps themselves, that everything's fine. It's a tricky balancing act, but that's what makes this band so damn endearing." NPR
"Molly Rankin turns this heartbreak narrative into dreamy, energetic, fuzz-pop songs about moving forward after being in chaotic relationships." Billboard
"As bright and charming as everything we've come to expect from the band."Consequence of Sound
"The great thing about Alvvays is that they know what they do well - create objectively good, beautiful indie pop - and they are evidently doing it again with Antisocialites" UPROXX
"Punchy, catchy songs - but there's a light nocturnal sheen across it. It's often more shimmery and glossier than the band's first record, sounding like the bleed of blue tones and blurred lights on solo walks through the city at who knows what hour."Stereogum
"Antisocialites is a recipe for the true believers." SPIN
"Rather than clashing, those two halves--one romantic and aspirational, one blunt and realistic--sharpen each other and create an album that delivers, and then some, on the promise of the band's self-titled debut." A.V. Club
"A record that begs to be blasted on road trips and at rooftop parties. Alvvays was a mid-June perfect summer day; Antisocialites is a little cloudier, with a bit of a cold breeze blowing through." Paste Magazine
"Antisocialites manages the rare feat of a band topping their brilliant debut with a sophomore effort that's even more brilliant." All Music
"This band creates its own little sound-world, one that's familiar, yes, but also expertly appointed. It makes music to get lost in." The Stranger
"If one band this year is going to transcend paling genres, it is Alvvays...Every song here is a hit and Antisocialites is brilliant." Pretty Much Amazing
