Alice Glass plays first ever solo headline show — sold out at LA's The Echo

ALICE GLASSPLAYS FIRST EVER SOLO HEADLINE SHOWSELLS OUT IN TWO HOURSDEBUT SELF-TITLED EP OUT NOW,ON TOUR THIS FALL Photo credit: Lucas DavidAlice Glass is most gratefully basking in the love and enthusiasm she received last night ather first ever solo headline show. Peforming in front of a packed house at Los Angeles’ The Echo— where tickets sold out in only two hours—she played new music from her celebrated debut self-titled EP, for the first time in a live setting. Partway through the set fans showered her on stage with a cascade of white roses which brought Glass to tears.Glass will return to the stage later this month, playing select, very special headline dates and joining Marilyn Manson as direct support on his North American tour. Please see below for full routing and visit alice-glass.com for more information. Alice Glass , written by Glass with additional writing and production by Jupiter Keyes (formerly of HEALTH), is out now to great critical acclaim. Watch the stunning video for single “Without Love,” directed by Floria Sigismondi, here.

Critical praise for Alice Glass: “Earlier this year, she described her new material alternately sounding ‘like being eaten by fire ants’ and ‘like being slowly consumed by a snake.’ She’s not exactly correct—these songs are far more enjoyable than either of those situations.”—Entertainment Weekly“The former Crystal Castles front woman goes hard in the dark basement electronic house vibes. She hasn’t lost her ability to be at once delicate and fiercely aggressive. Alice Glass is a triumph of self-loathing, redemption and perseverance.”—NYLON“It feels like a perfect encapsulation of who she is and the sound she’s worked toward throughout her career. It’s electronic pop full of feeling—rage, love—as though it’s been played on a piano made of glass shards; kind of like looking at the last song of the night, sweaty and sentimental, thought a kaleidoscope.”—VICE’s Noisey “Alice Glass has seriously one-upped herself.”—High Snobiety ALICE GLASS  EP1. MYRKUR's 'Mareridt' Out Today on Relapse

MYRKUR'S 'MARERIDT' OUT TODAY ON RELAPSE
LISTEN NOW: SPOTIFY | BANDCAMP | ITUNES

MYRKUR Graces The Cover of Decibel's October Issue"It's this laser-like focus and conucopia of Scandinavian influences - Norwegian folk music, Swedish cow calls, second-wave black metal, her hown Danish upbringing - that defines Myrkur's musical approach"   DECIBEL
"Bruun's singing voice is beautiful... her delivery, full of sustaining notes that subtly decay, is reminiscent of choral music - with all the ritualism, religiosity and awe it entails"   NPR
" Myrkur shifts from dreamy to nightmarish with a whip-cracking intensity"   FACT
"Your Gothic Folk Black Metal Fix"   NOISEY
"It's this triumphant, uplifting sound that truly finds a meeting ground between black metal, dream pop, and folk"   BROOKLYN VEGAN
"a musically eclectic, haunting journey that combines elements of black metal, Scandinavian folk, doom, goth and soundtrack music in a way that's skewed, scary and seductive"   REVOLVER
"Bruun's elegant voice offers a reprieve from the darkness"  LOUDWIRE
"It's not specifically black metal and it's not specifically choral music; it's just Myrkur"   METAL INJECTION
"an album that demands your attention. Not since The Satanist has extreme metal presented a vision so ready to stride into metal's wider consciousness. Amalie has created a portal into a world torn apart by light and darkness, and what is left might just be the finest metal album of 2017, and one of the greatest albums of recent times."  METAL HAMMER

"the voice of a fallen angel, soundscapes as if made to make a full moon disappear...To whom did Myrkur sell her soul for this impressive album?"   ROLLING STONE (DE)

Renowned Danish composer and classically trained multi-instrumentalist, MYRKUR, finally releases her stunning and highly awaited sophomore album ,'Mareridt', today via Relapse Records.
On 'Mareridt' (translation: Nightmare), MYRKUR explores deeper into the mysterious and the feminine with 11 songs that further progress her visionary blend of metal with gorgeous, stirring melodies, dark folk passages, choral arrangements and superb, horrific beauty. The conceptual masterpiece includes lyrics in multiple languages, an unforgettable collaboration with Chelsea Wolfe and an array of special instrumentation including violin, mandola, folk drums, Shaman drums, nyckelharpa (an ancient Swedish key harp), and Kulning (an ancient Scandinavian herding call).
Like a marriage of King Diamond's 'Them' with Tchaikovsky's 'Swan Lake', 'Mareridt' is a carefully composed concept freed from genre - a profound manifestation of nightmares that demonstrates MYRKUR as one of the truly exceptional artists of our time. The compositions sweep into one another like a soundtrack designed to guide the listener through emotional turmoil.
Timeless, triumphant, powerful and hypnotic, 'Mareridt' is a sonic nightmare that you never want to escape.

High Waisted unveils two new singles "Free Throw" + "Firebomb" via Billboard

NYC-based rockers High WaistedTo release new split single, “Free Throw” + “Firebomb”Out September 15th via Little Dickman Records
High Waisted:The Coax.jpg
“Each of these 12 tracks is a party unto itself, complete with scuzzy bass, bright vocal harmonies, and enough reverb to fill a decently sized punch bowl.” - Consequence of Sound
“The band’s mastery of 50s era vocals and classic surf guitar will have you dancing in your chair while considering buying tickets to Hawaii.” - Noisey
Listen: High Waisted - “Free Throw” + “Firebomb” - https://soundcloud.com/gethighwaisted/sets/split-7-inch-little-dickmand/s-Msrxu

(Brooklyn, NY) One of the most notorious bands in the NYC underground, rockers High Waisted have made a name for themselves with their wild live shows and Jessica Dye’s (lead vox, guitar) style and feminist swagger. As GQ so succinctly described, “High Waisted is a lot of things: a surf-rock band that throws raucous Lower East Side parties, friends and roommates, a group of people who stay up late and get up early. Their whirlwind energy gets channeled into creating a boisterous atmosphere just as much as into the music.”
With a Tad Kubler (The Hold Steady) produced sophomore album in the works for Spring 2018, the band rounded out by Jono Bernstein (drums) Richey Rose (bass) and Stephen Neilsen (guitar / vox) will be road testing hard this fall with a new split single in tow.
“Free Throw” and “Firebomb” will see release on September 15th as part of a split with The Coax via Little Dickman Records.
The two singles tease a blazing path forward for High Waisted, moving towards a fuller sound with Arun Bali of Saves the Day handling mixing duties.
Look for “Free Throw” and “Firebomb” out September 15th via Little Dickman Records and be sure to follow High Waisted on any of their social channels detailed below.

GARY NUMAN RELEASES POLITICALLY CHARGED 22ND ALBUM SAVAGE (SONGS FROM A BROKEN WORLD) VIA BMG

GARY NUMAN RELEASES POLITICALLY CHARGED 22ND ALBUM SAVAGE (SONGS FROM A BROKEN WORLD) VIA BMG
"Gary Numan's new album is a soundtrack for the Trumpocalypse." LA Weekly
"Gary Numan's bullet-proof relevance is essentially due to his abhorrence of nostalgia, his becoming an influence to every new generation of musical provocateurs and, perhaps most significantly, his uncanny ability to endlessly tap the cultural and socio-political zeitgeist." Blackbook
"With Savage, the '80s new-wave icon is back - and better than ever." Electronic Musician

Los Angeles, CA - September 15, 2017 - The iconic and highly influential Gary Numan today released his 22nd studio album Savage (Songs From A Broken World) via BMG. Coming almost four years after his album Splinter (Songs From A Broken Mind) earned the best reviews of his career and his highest chart-placing in 20 years, Savage (Songs From A Broken World) is available now physically and digitally HERE.
Savage (Songs From A Broken World) is an album with a narrative that's set in an apocalyptic, post-global warming Earth in the not-too-distant future. There is no technology left and most of the planet has turned to a desolate desert wasteland. Food is scarce, water even more so and human kindness and decency are just a dim and distant memory. Western and Eastern cultures have merged, more because of the need to simply survive than any feelings of greater tolerance or understanding. It's a harsh, savage environment, as are the survivors who still roam across it.
While Numan was writing the record, Donald Trump was elected President of the United States. It made sense to make him and his climate decisions the catalyst for the apocalypse theme of the album. Numan recently discussed the album's politically charged lyrics in an op-ed for The Daily Beast and interview with Salon.com.
"The songs are about the things that people do in such a harsh and terrifying environment," explains Numan. "It's about a desperate need to survive and they do awful things in order to do so, and some are haunted by what they've done. That desire to be forgiven, along with some discovered remnants of an old religious book, ultimately encourages religion to resurface, and it really goes downhill from there."
The album was produced by long-term collaborator Ade Fenton, with recording sessions split between Numan's own studio in LA, and in the UK. Numan and Fenton's creative connection goes back to 2006's Jagged. "Ade is not only extremely creative but ridiculously hard working, even in difficult circumstances," says Numan. "It's easy to discuss alternative ideas with him, he's not precious about things and is always looking to make the music better, even if that means, on very rare occasions, undoing his own work and starting again."
As the project took shape, Numan also set up a Pledge Music campaign to create an experience for fans that would let them see how an album was put together, from the first note to the finished shrink wrapped package. It was a strategy that brought Numan closer to his fans, and allowed him to communicate the blood, sweat and tears that goes into making a record. The campaign grew so successful that Numan consequently secured a record deal with BMG.
Numan announced the album earlier this summer and shared its lead single "My Name Is Ruin." It's a menacing industrial march in which the unrelenting mechanized intensity is countered by the humanity of its sweet, swirling backing vocals which exude a palpable Egyptian influence. It's immediately captivating but brutally uncompromising: the sound of an artist eager to continue to push both himself and his audience almost four decades after presenting his initial sonic prototype.
The accompanying video for the track was directed by visual artist and musician Chris Corner of IAMX. Filmed in the desolate deserts of southern California, it features a special guest in the shape of Numan's 11-year-old daughter Persia who also contributes vocals to the track. With the foreboding setting and temperatures reaching 48ºC during the shoot, the stunning location was the perfect backdrop for an album that examines a world struggling for survival after the devastation of global warming. Ibeyi share "My Voy feat. Mala Rodriguez" | Watch the music video for "Me Voy" now | Ash out 9/29 on XL

SHARE ‘ME VOY FEAT. MALA RODRIGUEZ’WATCH THE VIDEO HERE
‘ASH’ OUT SEPTEMBER 29
Today Ibeyi have debuted a music video for "Me Voy feat. Mala Rodriguez," another song off their forthcoming album Ash, out September 29th on XL Recordings. “Me Voy” is Ibeyi’s first song with lyrics entirely in Spanish. For the song Ibeyi invited two-time Latin GRAMMY® award winning rapper Mala Rodriguez, known for her sensuality and provoking lyricism, to add a guest verse. “English, Spanish and Yoruba inspire us to write different kinds of music and lyrics,” says Naomi. “We needed to sing in Spanish to set a sensual tone for this song. When women feel sensual, not only is it sexy, but also powerful,” adds Lisa-Kaindé.  The video, directed by MANSON and produced by CANADA, stars Ibeyi and Mala Rodriguez. The song, which sees both Naomi and Lisa-Kaindé on vocals and includes Naomi’s signature bata’s interlaced with electronic percussion, is available to stream everywhere at midnight locally.
Watch ‘Me Voy feat. Mala Rodriguez,’ video HERE
While Ibeyi’s first, self-titled album (2015) grappled with the past—the sister’s relationship, origins, loss, and roots. It earned them fans and collaborators in some of the most iconic and crucial artists of today, Beyoncé and Alvin Ailey included. By contrast, Ash is a more visceral and potent political statement, and while firmly rooted in Afro-Cuban culture and history, finds itself entirely concerned with Ibeyi’s present: Who Lisa-Kaindé and Naomi are, what’s important to them, and how they live today, especially given that the spheres, both personally and politically, are entirely different from when Ibeyi was recorded.  Ash was recorded in November 2016 in London with producer Richard Russell at his studio The Copper House. The album includes appearances from Kamasi Washington, Mala Rodriguez, Chilly Gonzales, Meshell Ndegeocello. To date the girls have released two songs from the upcoming album “Away Away” and “Deathless feat. Kamasi Washington.”
To celebrate the release of Ash, Ibeyi will set out on a global tour this October.  Kicking off on September 30 in France, the tour will extend across continents ending on November 19 in North America. Ibeyi’s live performance is mesmerizing and not to be missed and as Los Angeles’ KCRW explained, “there is a remarkable power to what they do.”

Lee Ranaldo Releases New Video For "Moroccan Mountains"; Rough Trade In-Store Tonight in Brooklyn

LEE RANALDO

RELEASES NEW VIDEO FOR
MOROCCAN MOUNTAINS

ROUGH TRADE IN-STORE PERFORMANCES CONFIRMED IN NYC AND LONDON

NEW ALBUM  ELECTRIC TRIM
OUT SEPTEMBER 15Photo: Fred RiedelAhead of the release of a brand new album, his first for Mute, LEE RANALDO has shared the video for “Moroccan Mountains,” the opening track from  Electric Trim , out Friday, September 15. Watch here.

In addition, Ranaldo has confirmed two Rough Trade in-store performances, one in New York tonight, and one at London’s Rough Trade East on October 2. In addition to these special in-store performances, Ranaldo has announced a full band European tour for 2018. This fall, Ranaldo and the band will tour across North America in October and November. Further dates, including London and Berlin, will be announced in the coming weeks. For those who can't make it to Ranaldo's in-stores, signed copies of Electric Trim can be purchased here.

Ranaldo explains, “’Moroccan Mountains’ was begun sitting atop a blood-red carpet with yellow mountain shapes woven into it that was brought back from Fes on my first trip there in 1995. I was strumming the chords that became the song and those mountain shapes took me back to my first trip to the country and into the Rif Mountains where I first met and played with the Master Musicians of Jajouka, in their little hilltop village with no running water or electricity. Somehow those memories infused a certain ‘Moroccan spirit’ into the song. It was a magical time, for Morocco is a magical place, and I found myself transported back via the chords from my guitar. The opening spoken section about ‘falling into the crack between the window and the world’ is based on true events that took place on a train approaching Grenoble, France in 2015…”

Directed by Fred Riedel, the video is an excerpt from the forthcoming documentary on the making of the album, shot on location in Morocco, France, New York City, Berlin, and somewhere in the skies over the Tyrrhenian Sea in 2016.

The feature length documentary,  HELLO HELLO HELLO : LEE RANALDO : ELECTRIC TRIM  tracks the making of the album by filmmakers Fred Riedel and Jerry Fried. The documentary will be touring select film festivals in the US and Europe. Screenings include the New Jersey Film Festival on album release day, Fonomo Music and Film Festival in Poland, Gig Harbor Film Festival in Seattle, and London’s Doc‘n Roll Festival in November.

Watch the trailer for HELLO HELLO HELLO here.

Electric Trim was recorded in New York City and Barcelona in collaboration with producer Raül “Refree” Fernandez and extends the work of Ranaldo's solo canon, the most recent being his 2013 album, Last Night On Earth.

Through his collaboration with Fernandez, Ranaldo moves into some rich new sonic territories and production techniques, experimenting with electronic beats and samples alongside live players.

Ranaldo is a co-founder of Sonic Youth, a visual artist, producer and writer. In addition to Fernandez, he worked with several special guests on Electric Trim, including Sharon Van Etten who sings on six of the tracks and duets on “Last Looks” and Kid Millions (aka Man Forever) as well as longtime friend and collaborator Nels Cline (Wilco). In addition, the album features Ranaldo’s band The Dust (fellow Sonic Youth member Steve Shelley, guitarist Alan Licht, and bassist Tim Luntzel).

Ranaldo collaborated with award winning New York author Jonathan Lethem (Motherless Brooklyn / The Fortress of Solitude) for lyrics on six of the songs, including “Thrown Over The Wall." American artist, Richard Prince, who previously painted the sleeve for Sonic Youth’s 2004 album Sonic Nurse, created the artwork for the album.

The band's eighth studio recording,YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE drew wide-ranging applause, withNPR hailing it as "a statement of bright, graceful affirmation in an age where such a thing couldn't be needed more." The album "exudes the same Zen understatement that nourished (2002's) LET GO," enthused MOJO in a four-starred rave, "positing Alex Chilton astride Crazy Horse on a root canal burn to the soul."YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE "sees (Nada Surf) once again merging upbeat rockers with shimmering ballads," wrote A.V. Club, "to quietly craft an album that's a case study in how to grow older gracefully." "YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE is an appropriate title," raved Relix. "Caws has never sounded more assured as a songwriter." Paste summed it up best: "It's as perfect a pop album as you're going to get this year. Savor every last bit of it."
YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE was followed later that same year with the release of PEACEFUL GHOSTS: LIVE WITH THE DEUTSCHES FILMORCHESTER BABELSBERG, a live recording that had the band performing alongside Vienna's ORF Radio Symphony Orchestra and Potsdam's renowned Deutsches Filmorchester Babelsberg. Initially recorded during summer 2016 for Austria's FM4 and Berlin's Radio Eins, the extraordinary performances earned worldwide raves upon the album's October arrival. "Revisiting their past and marking their present, PEACEFUL GHOSTScelebrates Nada Surf's history by adorning it in an ornate and orchestral veneer," wrote The Line of Best Fit. "The quality of the live recording is first rate, not letting the orchestra overbear in the mix but allow it to compliment the diverse selection of songs from the band's back catalogue."
Nada Surf is: Matthew Caws (guitar, vocals), Daniel Lorca (bass), Ira Elliot (drums), and -Doug Gillard (guitar).

R.E.M. TO RELEASE 25TH
ANNIVERSARY EDITION OFAUTOMATIC FOR THE PEOPLE
DUE NOVEMBER 10 VIA CRAFT RECORDINGSFIRST MAJOR COMMERCIAL MUSIC RELEASE IN DOLBY ATMOS

“R.E.M. can’t resist its own talent for
creating beautiful and moving
sounds.”— The New York Times

★★★★★
Automatic is musically
irresistible.”— Rolling Stone “God, they’re the greatest. They’ve dealt
with their success like saints, and they keep delivering great music.”—Kurt Cobain
1994 Rolling Stone interview Rock icons R.E.M. are reissuing their landmark album  Automatic For The People  tocommemorate the title’s 25th Anniversary. Due November 10 via Craft Recordings, the remastered album will be available in a variety of formats, the most extensive of which is the Deluxe Anniversary Edition, which will feature the album in its entirety mixed in Dolby Atmos. A short trailer with members of the band may be viewed and shared HERE.The album (plus bonus track “Photograph,” featuring Natalie Merchant) was remixed in Dolby Atmos by Automatic’s original producer, Scott Litt, and engineer, Clif Norrell. This technology delivers a leap forward from surround sound with expansive, flowing audio that immerses the listener far beyond what stereo can offer. It transports the listener inside the recording studio with multi-dimensional audio—evoking a time when listening to music was an active, transformative experience, and reigniting the emotion you felt when you first heard the album in 1992. R.E.M.’sAutomatic For The People is the first album to be commercially released in this expressive, breathtaking format. In addition, the 4-disc Deluxe Edition will offer a wealth of previously unreleased material. The band selected 20 never-before-heard demos from the LP’s sessions, including the fully-realized, unreleased track “Mike’s Pop Song” and the oft-mused about song, “Devil Rides Backwards.” “Mike’s Pop Song” debuts today and is available as an instant grat track with preorder of the reissue. Share the track HERE and preorder HERE.Also included in both the 2-disc 25th Anniversary and Deluxe Edition of the album—which was remastered from the original analog tapes by Stephen Marcussen—is a full live set,  Live At The 40 Watt Club 11/19/92 . Performed in R.E.M.’s hometown of Athens, GA, it was the band’s only live show that year.Housed in a 12” x 12” lift-top box, the Deluxe Anniversary Edition features a 60-page book, offering never-before-seen photos by Anton Corbjin and Melodie McDaniel, plus expanded, new liner notes by Scottish music journalist Tom Doyle who conducted new interviews with all four band members. Also included is a companion Blu-ray, offering the Dolby Atmos mix, plus a high-resolution master of Automatic For The People, seven music videos and the original 1992 EPK video. Automatic For The People will also be reissued on 180-gram vinyl (with digital download card), and will be available across all digital and streaming outlets.Widely regarded as one of the best rock albums of all time, Automatic For The People, R.E.M.’s eighth studio outing, was recorded in session locations ranging from New Orleans to Seattle, and Athens, GA to Miami. Rolling Stone has ranked Automatic For The People on their list of the “500 Greatest Albums of All Time.” Notable contributions to the record come from Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones who provided string arrangements on select tracks. After its release in 1992 the record reached #1 on UK charts and #2 in the US, selling over eighteen million copies worldwide. It also received 1994 Grammy nominations for Album of the Year and Best Alternative Music Album with major singles “Man on the Moon” and “Everybody Hurts” garnering Grammy nods as well.Michael Stipe has since reflected that the album concerns topics of “mortality and dying,” but he further notes, “Mortality is a theme that writers have chosen to work with throughout time. It speaks of the fragility and beauty of life and living life to the fullest in the present moment. It happens all too quickly and we all know that.” Mike Mills asserts, “I think it’s our most cohesive record…It’s the strongest from first to last.”Following the success of their multiplatinum Out of Time in 1991, the band’s reputation was skyrocketing with critics and fans alike. However, R.E.M.’s decision not to tour behind it, and with no plan to tour its successor, the band chose to push further into unexplored sonic territory. The recording was thus characterized by experimentation and playfulness in the studio resulting in a largely acoustic sound full of eerie and ambiguous commentary on the nature of mainstream fame they’d recently found. To this day, songs like “Everybody Hurts,” “Drive,” “Nightswimming” and “Man on the Moon,” as well as lesser known but sublime songs like “Try Not To Breathe” and “Monty Got a Raw Deal,” still resonate throughout the collective music and pop culture.Formed in 1980, the legendary group went on to win multiple Grammys and produce 15 studio albums, plus many others including greatest hits and live documents. Noted for both their profound contributions to the alternative rock genre and their status as one of the world’s best-selling music artists of all time, the band’s three-decade long career remains a legacy of music that defined an era and a model for musicians paving their own career path. R.E.M. (comprised of Bill Berry, Peter Buck, Mike Mills and Michael Stipe) was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2007 before disbanding amicably in 2011.
