ABOUT LEVITATION
Founded in 2008 as Austin Psych Fest, by members of The Black Angels and friends, the independent event grew from a small word-of-mouth event to an internationally acclaimed, full weekend destination. Through the years, they helped spark a movement, inspiring the creation of Psych Fests and similar events across the globe. Austin Psych Fest was renamed Levitation in honor of Austin's psychedelic rock pioneers The 13th Floor Elevators, who reunited and performed at Levitation 2015 for the band's 50th anniversary.
2016 was heralded by press and fans alike to be another landmark year for Levitation, until severe weather resulted in the cancellation of the 3 day weekend at the ranch, and a rapidly rescheduled weekend of club shows in downtown Austin. The cancellation also resulted in financial devastation of the independent group, and the postponement of the 2017 event in Austin. The founders took a year to restructure and find a way to move forward. Levitation returns in 2018, continuing the vision that launched the event in 2008.
In addition to the flagship event in Austin, the group has curated Levitation events in France, Chicago and Vancouver, along with ongoing events in Austin and special events and showcases at Mexico City's NRMAL, The Netherlands' Le Guess Who, and a massive annual Levitation showcase at SXSW. Levitation France celebrated it's 5th year in September 2017, at Le Quai in Angers, FR with sold out crowds.  Since 2010, The Reverberation Appreciation Society record label has released records by key bands in the psych and garage rock scene like Night Beats, Holy Wave, Ringo Deathstarr and many more - with new releases on the horizon.
Stay tuned as full details for 2018 unfold, along with upcoming events in Austin including Levitation's 7th annual SXSW event.

Charlotte De Witte Announces Brussels EP; Out January 5 on NovaMute

December 7, 2017
New York, NYCHARLOTTE DE WITTE ANNOUNCES NEW EP
BRUSSELS

OUT JANUARY 5 ON VINYL VIA NOVAMUTECharlotte de Witte presents a new EP on the recently relaunched seminal British imprint NovaMute. It arrives after three acclaimed 2017 EPs from the rising Belgian artist, whose residencies and packed touring schedule have fuelled her reputation as one to watch. The “Brussels” EP features three menacing techno cuts employing impeccable production technique and moody atmospherics. Watch the album trailer  here .

The title track is a restrained burner harnessing strange vocals and stripped back beats over sweltering pads. “Control” pairs distorted speech with a whirlwind of rumbling bass frequencies, whilst “Look Around You” brandishes trance inspired crescendos with hypnotic percussion.

NovaMute, a subsidiary of the legendary Mute label, rose to prominence in the early 90s amidst growing demand for techno in the UK and went on to release classic tracks and albums from an array of coveted artists. In 2017 they relaunched with EPs from Nicolas Bougaïeff and Terence Fixmer.

The “Brussels” EP is released January 5 on vinyl and February 2 on digital formats.

Allah-Las @ Sweetwater Music Hall

If you drive past the 200 block of South La Brea, there is a lamp shop, a pet shop, and a little glass door that says “Casting Agency” above it. Inside you’ll find one of LA’s most stereotypical rituals, where men & women from all walks of life vie for the attention and popularity of the Hollywood producer. It’s a dream factory for some of them. It’s also a place where Los Angeles outsiders learn what the city is really like, beyond the sun and surf and celebrities, where every brightly-lit surface eventually faces a cloud.Indeed, the lessons learned by the Allah-Las –guitarists Miles Michaud and Pedrum Siadatian, bassist Spencer Dunham, drummer Matthew Correia–since their auspicious formation in 2008 have been tempered with experience. Now, with their third album Calico Review (their first for Mexican Summer), their experience transforms once more, this time into wisdom.
The band’s trajectory, formed around mutual appreciation for the same kinds of music and a host of shared experiences, focuses on both the outer trappings of their home and surroundings, and the through line of darkness that suffuses life in LA county. Where the Allah-Las display their insight, and what really shines across the 12 songs that comprise Calico Review, is the way that the group has pivoted from specific influences and nods to the music they love, to crafting the feelings of freedom, grit, and melancholy in their music. That feeling –the peerless capture of music long in the tradition and mood of California pop, the sound that’s captured the essence of the LA experience –aligns with their stylistic technique and their experience in the studio environment to create their strongest album to date, one which showcases their developments in songwriting and arrangements. The process began with their self-titled debut, which captured the Allah-Las’ live set circa 2012 and continued onward with 2014’s Worship the Sun, where they began to experiment with overdubs and writing songs individually instead of as a band.
Now, Calico Review showcases a band that’s grown confident in its own style to reflect the perspectives of each member, to craft an album that changes up the approach from song-to-song, while retaining their abilities as a cohesive unit.Audiences familiar with the band will recognize the levels of nuance and steadiness the Allah-Las have grown into throughout Calico Review. It’s immediate, the first thing you recognize about the band in the opening moves of “Strange Heat,” in the amount of control and character burning off of the band’s knack for restraint. Songs like “Famous Phone Figure” cradle character sketches over delicate strains of violin, organ, and Mellotron, Correia’s drumming carefully underlining a three-note theme that casts a phantom sadness over the proceedings, the group exerting a touch both light and steady enough to bring your mood to theirs.

TINARIWEN NOMINATED FOR GRAMMY AWARD

TINARIWEN NOMINATED FOR GRAMMY AWARDBand’s Elwan Up For “Best World Music AlbumAnti- would like to congratulate celebrated African Touareg band TINARIWEN on their recent Grammy Nomination for their incredible album  Elwan  in the Best World Music Album category. The group previously won the category in 2012 for their album Tassili. In recent years, TINARIWEN’s homeland, a Saharan mountain range between north-eastern Mali and southern Algeria, has been transformed into a conflict zone. While the songs on  Elwan  evoke those cherished deserts of home, they were recorded in both the California desert of Joshua Tree and Southern Morocco and feature guest performances from Kurt Vile, Matt Sweeney, Alain Johannes, Mark Lanegan and more. Mojo wrote of the album, “this yearning, realpolitik-infused road movie of an album is one to point to the next time somebody pronounces there are no decent protest songs any more.”The 60th Grammy Awards will take place at New York City's famed Madison Square Garden on Sunday, Jan. 28th, 2018.Watch TINARIWEN’s powerful video for the song “Sastanàqqàm” here:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vACZA9dGvV4Critical Praise For Elwan:“However much they conjure up campfire laments, you're rarely more than a few minutes from kick-ass riffs and percussive abandon” - Q Magazine“From their beginnings in a refugee camp to their latest iteration as a world-touring entity, they can provide exultation and encouragement like few other ensembles, on any continent.“ - Pitchfork“Elwan (Elephants), perhaps their most powerful album since Amassakoul, confronts their situation head-on, in songs musing on the values of ancestry, unity and fellowship, driven by the infectiously hypnotic cyclical guitar grooves that wind like creepers around their poetic imagery.” – The Independent, UK“Elwan is pure rock n’ roll. There is an undeniable swagger and an unfettered attitude of resistance here; no pretension or theater.” – The Line Of Best Fit“Tinariwen once again deliver a vital and engaging album.” - Allmusic"As always, no melancholy is more sincere and no tale more elegantly told than Tinariwen’s." – Popmatters

The David Bowie celebration, by an unfortunate coincidence, transformed into a memorial as "wide-ranging and celebrated as Bowie's career" (The Guardian), which led to the addition of another performance at Radio City Music Hall after the initial show sold out immediately. 2015's David Byrne and Talking Heads' celebration was "so explosive that absolutely no one wanted to leave" (Billboard) and Byrne himself closed the show, leading the marching band Brooklyn United down the aisles of Carnegie Hall onto the historic stage.

The singer-songwriter has created a genre of her own that she describes as "dark pop, gypsy urban.” She has cultivated sounds that are magically reminiscent of her upbringing, blending rural atmospheres with urban textures and tones. Her breakout single "Ugly" was handpicked by Olivier Rousteing as the musical backdrop for the Beats/Balmain ad campaign which featured Kylie Jenner.
“High Rollin” is now available at all digital retailers. Jaira will be supporting Australian-born musician Wafia on tour which kicks off January 22, 2018. Tickets for the tour can be purchased at  www.jairaburns.com .

TR/ST Shares “Destroyer” Video On Nowness | New Album Out Early 2018

TR/ST SHARES "DESTROYER" VIDEO ON NOWNESS, STARRING RYAN HEFFINGTON + CO-DIRECTED BY HEFFINGTON & JUSTIN TYLER CLOSE

LAUNCHES NEW WEBSITE

NEW ALBUM OUT EARLY 2018WATCH & SHARE: TR/ST - "DESTROYER"
LISTEN & SHARE: TR/ST - "BICEP""This new track from Toronto-based musician TR/ST blends the artist’s strangely sinister and mechanical pop with the unpredictable moves of Californian dance-studio director and choreographer extraordinaire Ryan Heffington."
-- NOWNESS

"...the verses where Alfons mutters his incantations of discordant, metallic noises create a mood venomous enough to linger over the hook's explosive synthy turn-up."
-- FADER

"TR/ST, is another one of those breaking Canadian acts that seems to have appeared fully-formed with a heap of brilliant, deviant, electronically infused tracks"
-- NOISEYNowness has premiered the video for TR/ST's new single "Destroyer". The track along with the previously released "Bicep" will be part of an LP due out in 2018. The video stars famed choreographer Ryan Heffington and is the first video Ryan has both starred in and choreographed. When talking about the video Heffington says,"TR/ST’S thrilling track DESTROYER induced a feeling of uplifting mourning that inspired movements implying a last ditch effort to save a relationship. Joy remembered, self reflection and turmoil manifested in gestures that lie upon Robbie’s ungulating rhythms and vox set upon the backdrop of a familiar location - home for most of us that created this piece - the streets of Silver Lake, LA."

The single is being exclusively previewed with the film that friends and collaborators of TR/ST, Heffington, and director Justin Tyler Close made in response to conversations with TR/ST about the song's meaning to him. TR/ST has also announced the launch of his new site, which you can check out here. "Destroyer" is only available through the website. Also while there check out a new shirt designed by artist Stephen Schramm.

"Destroyer" - written and performed by TR/ST
Co-directed by Justin Tyler Close and Ryan Heffington
Choreographed and starring Ryan Heffington
Director of Photography - Norm Li
Styling - Mindy Le Brock
Producer - Alexis Walker
Special thanks Emily Roe and Marc Bendavid

TR/ST is the musical project of Toronto artist Robert Alfons.

After years of extensive touring, and garnering glowing praise from top international critics at Pitchfork, VICE, and The Guardian UK for the 2012 Juno-nominated debut album "TRST", the follow up album 'Joyland' is out now. 'Joyland' is an eruption of guts, eels, and joy.LINKS

Dorothy Announces 2018 Tour Dates & Launches Local Opener Initiative

DOROTHY ANNOUNCES 2018 FREEDOM TOUR DATES LAUNCHES GRASSROOTS INITIATIVE TO SELECT LOCAL ARTISTS AS OPENING ACTS FOR EACH SHOW

RULES & BAND SUBMISSION FORM AVAILABLE HERE: smarturl.it/DorothyFreedomOpener
Los Angeles-based alternative rock band Dorothy has announced tour dates for the 2018 Freedom Tour. Dorothy is taking the high voltage show to major cities across the United States including Chicago, New York, Boston, Nashville, Los Angeles, Austin, and more.Dorothy will perform new music from their forthcoming album along with other fan-favorites from their ROCKISDEAD debut album, the fresh single "Down To The Bottom," and "Naked Eye" from the Served Like A Girl soundtrack. Rolling Stone recently featured "Down To The Bottom" in their column 'The Playlist' as the "perfect mix of blues thunder and alt-rock guitar crunch." Watch the live video of "Down To The Bottom" here
Taking on an unprecedented interest in local culture, for the 2018 Freedom Tour, Dorothy are looking for a hometown favorite band from each city to be the opening act for every show along the way. All genres are welcome. This will be an opportunity to bring the focus of touring back to developing the local music scene."Touring sweeps you from city to city. Sometimes you don't even get a chance to venture past a couple blocks of the venue you're performing in. On this tour, we are doing something different. Instead of letting a band with marketing dollars and guaranteed ticket sales open for me, I thought it would be cool to let the local favorite band in each city have a shot," shares Martin."This tour is about taking the time to truly connect with the different communities to get a taste of what the local music scene is like. We want to be inspired. This could be a disaster or it could be complete magic. Who knows? WHO CARES?! It's rock n' roll."For more information on how to submit, visit smarturl.it/DorothyFreedomOpener.In addition, Dorothy are offering limited VIP tickets that will include a 2-song soundcheck, a photo with Dorothy plus meet & greet, early/preferred entrance, a limited edition hat, and a VIP exclusive laminate. VIP & GA tickets for the Freedom Tour are available at dorothytheband.com/tour.

JORJA SMITH ANNOUNCES HEADLINING DATES FOR SPRING 2018 IN NORTH AMERICA!

JORJA SMITH ANNOUNCES SPRING 2018 TOUR
HEADLINING DATES ACROSS THE US AND CANADA

JORJA SMITH BECOMES THE FIRST INDEPENDENT ARTIST TO WIN THE BRITS CRITIC'S CHOICE AWARD
TICKETS GO ON SALE FRIDAY, DECEMBER 8th; FAN PRE-SALE BEGINS WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 6th

20 year old UK-based singer, songwriter and modern muse, Jorja Smith, has announced her first 2018 run of dates across North America, going on sale this Friday December 8th at 10AM local time. Fans will get the first opportunity to buy tickets on Wednesday, December 6th at 10AM local by signing up for the mailing list through her webstore here: https://jorja.tmstor.es
Smith's rise to global acclaim has been a relatively quick ascent but she's been playing music since a young age. Hailing from rural Walsall, England, Smith began playing keyboard at the age of 8 and was learning to sing classical by 12. She began to write her own lyrics and most songs on her upcoming 2018 album were written between the ages of 17-19.  Constantly evolving as a songwriter through her adolescence, she uploaded her debut single "Blue Lights" to Soundcloud and was met with wide praise from fans and peers. Inspired by the unjust prejudice and violence young black men face every day, the track earned the praise of Skrillex and Stormzy before it was eventually included on Drake's OVO radio show on Beats 1. She concluded 2016 with the release of her debut EP  Project 11 , a flowing collection of songs knitted together by the soulful elasticity of her voice. With eclectic influences like Frank Ocean, FKA Twigs, Amy Winehouse, Mos Def, Damian Marley, and Lauryn Hill, Smith's songs have the ability to transport the listener anywhere, from a smoky Parisian jazz club to a North London warehouse party.
Things began to ramp up quickly in early 2017 when Smith was featured on two songs, "Get It Together" and "Jorja's Interlude", off Drake's More Life. Smith went on to join Drake onstage at his UK headline shows and from there, the buzz exploded. Smith continued to pop up through the rest of the year, featuring on Kali Uchis' track "Tyrant" and joining Bruno Mars on a leg of his US tour after her second sold out US headlining tour. Taking inspiration from her industrial West Midlands upbringing, her latest release "On My Mind", a collaboration with Preditah, is a nod to her Bassline roots and a viral success with 25 million streams worldwide.
In the past year alone Jorja has earned many accolades, including early praise from the FADER, Pitchfork, Vogue, New York Times, Billboard, GQ, Time, Noisey and more. Smith also earned the fourth spot of BBC's Sound of 2017 poll as well as 3 MOBO nominations. The young talent just became the first ever unsigned artist to win a BRIT Critics Choice Award, proving she is one to watch.

EARLY PRESS ON JORJA SMITH
"At just 20 years old, Jorja Smith is poised to blow up." -VOGUE

"Jorja Smith has a voice that could heal the world" -PITCHFORK

"...based on solo work that strikes a balance between soulful jazz and forward-thinking R&B, we're about to hear much more of her velvety tones." -TIME

"...one of the most exciting musicians to emerge from London's urban scene. Genre-bending and collab kudos aside, her voice is spectacular." -GQ

"... it's actually kind of dizzying to think about what she might achieve in her career to come." -NOISEY
