Praise for Sleep Well Beast"On their first album since scoring a Grammy nomination four years ago, The National have mastered their own sound, a brooding tunefulness they've streamlined into their prettiest batch of songs in a career of constantly topping themselves." - Consequence of Sound (50 Best Albums of 2017)
"It's the rare album that's both of the moment and timeless." - USA Today (10 Best Albums of 2017)
"It's a rock record that rages against our freakish cultural moment not by sloganeering but by turning inward, circling wagons, taking stock of beauty and love and gathering strength for what lies ahead." - Rolling Stone (50 Best Albums of 2017)
"Sleep Well Beast highlights the National's penchant for magnifying insular conflicts into something a lot of us can relate to in that moment, a record detailing marital struggles and familial bonds during what feels like the end of the world." - Stereogum (50 Best Albums of 2017)
"An hour-long odyssey into the darkness of our times, both political and personal, Sleep Well Beast is quietly, gorgeously insinuating, from the Leonard Cohen-esque "Nobody Else Will Be There" to the electronic thrum that drives the incredible title track." - AV Club (20 Best Albums of 2017)
"This album, so full of anger and fear and cautious hope for the future, is an exquisitely unpredictable animal." - UPROXX (50 Best Albums of 2017)
"Between the swaggering rock of the first half and the roving electronic ballads of the second, Sleep Well Beast shows The National is a band that only gets bolder with age." - Digital Trends (50 Best Albums of 2017)

BETH DITTO ANNOUNCES HEADLINE TOUR IN SUPPORT OF DEBUT SOLO ALBUM, FAKE SUGAR

BETH DITTO ANNOUNCES HEADLINE TOUR IN SUPPORT OF DEBUT SOLO ALBUM, FAKE SUGAR Tickets Go On Sale This Friday, December 15 North American Run Kicks Off  March 7 In Little Rock, AR And Includes March 14 Show At NYC's Brooklyn Steel And March 23 Concert At The Fonda Theatre In Los Angeles

Beth Ditto   Photo Credit: Mary McCartney Beth Ditto - hailed by NPR as the "force-of-nature performer best known for fronting the pop-punk group Gossip" - will kick off her first tour of 2018 in her home state of Arkansas, performing at Revolution Music Room in Little Rock on March 7. The North American run includes shows at New York's Brooklyn Steel (March 14), The Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles, CA (March 23) and Wonder Ballroom in Portland, OR (March 27). Tickets will go on sale this Friday, December 15, at 10:00 AM local time. See below for itinerary or visit www.bethditto.com.  In a four-star live review The Guardian said, " Ditto has said this is her southern record, and opener Oh My God kicks in with a funk-rock beat as she channels the mid-80s power vocals of Bonnie Tyler, complete with a front-of-stage electric fan to give her the perfect windswept look. On In and Out and Fake Sugar, she closes her eyes and draws out the tender trill in her voice, giving her the air of a heartbroken Nashville queen. And like Dolly Parton, Ditto alternates between infectiously warm, wisecracking comic and soul-baring torch singer."               She was recently interviewed by Debbie Harry for Elle UK's "Wonder Women" issue, which features Ditto on the cover. Check out their lively conversation, which touches on touring, punk and politics, HEREThe Wall Street Journal included Fake Sugar in its round-up of "The Best Music of 2017" and observed, "Great pop for grownups is a rare commodity...Beth Ditto delivers." The New York Times praised Ditto as a"powerhouse singer" and noted that the songs from her 2017 solo debut album, Fake Sugar (Virgin Records), "have stomp and girl-group melodies, Southernisms in their lyrics and garage-rock swagger." Paper christened Ditto "rock's homecoming queen" while People highlighted Fake Sugar as one of its "Picks," observing, "Whether it's a glittering stomper ('Oo La La') or stripped-down Stevie Nicks homage (the title track), Ditto shines throughout..."New York Magazine said, "Ditto feels like the kind of rock star born to dominate this political era and on tracks like 'Fire,' she makes it clear that she is not here to mess around." The official video for "Fire," which has nearly two million views, can be seen HERE. Other clips include "We Could Run" and the animated lyric video for "In And Out."  In addition to releasing six acclaimed albums with the Gossip, Ditto has recorded with such artists as Blondie and disco legend Cerrone, collaborated with Jean Paul Gaultier on her eponymous plus-sized luxury clothing line, modeled for Marc Jacobs and appeared in the Oscar-nominated Nocturnal Animals and the forthcoming Gus Van Sant film, Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far On Foot.  Beth Ditto - 2018 North American Tour Dates 3/7 - Little Rock, AR @ Revolution Music Room3/8 - Nashville, TN @ Mercy Lounge3/10 - Washington, DC @ The 9:30 Club3/11 - Philadelphia, PA @ Union Transfer3/14 - Brooklyn, NY @ Brooklyn Steel3/15 - Cambridge, MA @ The Sinclair3/16 - Montreal, QC @ Fairmount Theatre3/17 - Toronto, ON @ Mod Club3/19 - Chicago, IL @ Lincoln Hall3/23 - Los Angeles, CA @ The Fonda Theatre3/24 - Pomona, CA @ The Glass House3/25 - San Francisco, CA @ Regency Ballroom3/27 - Portland, OR @ Wonder Ballroom3/28 - Vancouver, BC @ Imperial3/29 - Seattle, WA @ Showbox

Johanna Warren Shares "Here To Tell" Video, New Album "Gemini II" Out February 16

JOHANNA WARREN SHARES "HERE TO TELL" VIDEO
NEW ALBUM GEMINI II OUT FEBRUARY 16

WATCH / SHARE: "HERE TO TELL"
Johanna Warren shared the video for her new single "Here To Tell" today. The video depicts the Portland songwriter's lyrics, which she describes as "the story of an interdimensional being who visits a young man in his sleep and takes him on a journey through the history of life on Earth, bestowing him with wisdom to help save humanity." Uproxx , who premiered the clip, say, "In the clip, a wild cast of characters float in and out of a dream world that seems to be accessed Narnia-style through a magic mirror."
"Here To Tell" will appear on Johanna Warren's new album  Gemini II , which is due out February 16 on her own Spirit House Records. NPR praised "Here To Tell" for "captur[ing] the spirit that animates much of Warren's music and philosophy - an enduring belief that we can be better, despite the hurt and despair we put each other and ourselves through.Stereogum named it their #1 Best Song of the Week, saying, "'Here To Tell' starts melancholic but winds up being transportive. Initially, it sounds haunting.  But by the end, you feel cleansed ."
Gemini II will be released on vinyl as a double LP with Warren's 2016 record Gemini I. The LP is available for pre-order here

When asked what motivates her to make music, Johanna Warren responds immediately: "Music is vibration; it's a direct way to affect matter. A song is a way to journey into places of discord and then resolve back into harmony." The Portland songwriter/multi-instrumentalist constructs complex, gossamer folk compositions that draw from the richness of the human experience and her own unique flavor of mysticism. Her 2015 sophomore album, numun, found its way on to several notable year end lists and ledRolling Stone to name her a "Songwriter You Need to Know." In 2016 she founded Spirit House Records, a radically artist-friendly label for witches, healers and free spirits.

Last year, Warren also released Gemini I, the first of a pair of conceptually connected albums written and recorded in the throes of a rocky romantic relationship with another artist. "All the songs on both records are about a complicated three-year relationship with a Gemini man," she says. "It was very much a 'twin flame' situation. We were working with bright light and intense shadow." As a way to process this emotional chaos, Warren began to write in earnest as a form of self-therapy. Eschewing the more abstract lyricism of her earlier work, she began to create a suite of confessional songs about the blessing and the curse of romantic love.

The albums that resulted, Gemini I and Gemini II, are moody, bewitching records packed with layers of occult symbolism and personal mythology. Every song on Gemini I has a corresponding "twin" on II, linked by melodic motifs, lyrical content or production choices. Rather than the DIY recording setups that Warren and engineer/producer Bella Blasko had used previously, the Geminis were tracked at Dreamland studios in upstate New York. There, equipped with a sudden wealth of instruments and more sophisticated technology, Warren who arranges and play nearly everything on her records, felt free to explore. This spirit of experimentation is evident on the records. The songs retain the hushed warmth of previous releases Fates and numun, while expanding Warren's sonic landscape in all directions.

MGMT Release Video For New Album Track "When You Die"

MGMT logo

MGMT RELEASE VIDEO FOR NEW ALBUM TRACK"WHEN YOU DIE"
VIDEO FEATURES GLOOBY: AN INNOVATIVE AI TECHNOLOGY
Track and Video out Today, December 12th
Directed by: Mike Burakoff and Hallie Cooper-NovackFull Credits Below
MGMT have released "When You Die," the second song from the forthcoming Little Dark Age, due out in 2018. The song was released alongside a video starring actor Alex Karpovsky.  The video premiered via  New Yorker , who described it as "mystical and dreamlike, a slice of life as it unravels." Watch the video HERE.
Directed by Mike Burakoff and Hallie Cooper-Novack, the video takes a darkly humorous and ultimately horrifying approach to the question of life after life. Famed French singer, Sébastien Tellier, lends his silky smooth laugh to the track, as Karpovsky moves through cycles of life, death and rebirth, and the story starts feeding back onto itself. Emotions and memories smear both forward and backwards, as pieces of the scenery of his final moments of life become the textures of his forever-looped eternity.
The video utilizes an amalgamation of AI Style Transfer technology techniques, making use of artificial neural networks to impose the stylistic qualities of an image onto video footage.  The end result is an eerily familiar, dreamlike interpretation. The effect can appear beautiful at some times and horrific at others.Mike Burakoff and collaborator Jamie Dutcher (collectively known as King Drippa) developed their own software, nicknamed Glooby, to harness the power of Style Transfer for the production pipeline.
Earlier this year, MGMT released the title track for their upcoming album with the single "Little Dark Age" accompanied by a shadowy, cinematic music video featuring sinister and surreal vignettes of members Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser dressed in flamboyant gothic attire, stalked by the figure of Death. Watch HERE.
The group's fourth album is due to be released in early 2018 and was produced by MGMT, Patrick Wimberly (Chairlift, Kelela, Blood Orange), and long-time collaborator Dave Fridmann (Flaming Lips, Spoon, Tame Impala). Earlier this year the band announced via Twitter their new album would be titled Little Dark Age, later releasing in-studio visuals and snippets of music via Instagram. MGMT has incorporated songs from the upcoming release into their live show at festivals across North America throughout 2017.
Formed in 2002, MGMT released their influential, Grammy-nominated, debut album Oracular Spectacular in 2007. This was followed by 2010's Congratulations and 2013's self-titled albumMGMT

New Jersey DIY-punk luminaries Screaming Females will release their blistering seventh studio album  All At Once February 23, 2018 on Don Giovanni Records. The band recently shared album cut “Deeply” with a lyric video that showcased a glimpse into front person Marissa Paternoster’s artistic prowess. The band announced All At Once with  Rolling Stone , who also debuted the video for album cut  “Glass House”  directed by Kate Sweeney. The expectations that surround being in a band have changed a lot since Screaming Females started up in 2005. All At Once is a reminder there's a hopeful and joyful energy to underground music-making. The band collaborated with producer Matt Bayles (Pearl Jam, Mastodon), setting out to make an album in the spirit of a salon-style gallery show, where larger pieces provide an eye-level focal point to a galaxy of smaller works. Concision took a back-seat to experimentation, with arrangements meant to evoke the energy and spontaneity of their live performances.

All At Once release will be made available in various formats including Digital, CD, Double-LP vinyl with a Limited Edition 7” and a Deluxe Limited Edition LPx3 with the 7” and an exclusive bonus LP of album demos. The three-piece has a slew of Spring 2018 tour dates. See full list of here or below & be sure to catch them live in a city near you!

Xenia Rubinos Releases New Track with Sammus & Olga Bell

XENIA RUBINOS
RELEASES COLLAB TRACK WITH SAMMUS & OLGA BELL
Touring With Tune-YardsPhoto Credit: Max SchianoIn their most recent review of singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Xenia Rubinos, Pitchfork called the genre blending Brooklynite “a unique presence with a sharp ability to make pressing issues about identity and society into funky, exhilarating music.”

Now Rubinos is flexing her studio muscles in a brand new collaborative track. Spurred by an invitation from Tune-yards’ Merrill Garbus to collaborate with other female artists for Garbus’ Red Bull radio show C.L.A.W, a monthly guide to new music by female-identifying artists.

“Levitating” is the first work from the almost unfairly gifted trio of Xenia Rubinos, Olga Bell and Sammus. Over a sultry Olga Bell instrumental, MC Sammus reflects on the privileges and responsibilities that come with being part of a progressive movement before the beat switches up mid-track and Xenia responds bilingually with her own rhyme. The joy is palpable.

Check out “Levitating" featuring Xenia Rubinos, Olga Bell and Sammus here.

And catch Xenia Rubinos live this Spring supporting Tune-Yards on tour!

Stonefield Signs to Flightless Records, Shares New Single "Delusion" & 2018 Tour Dates

Australia's Stonefield Signs to Flightless Records

Stream New Single " Delusion ,"
Playing Levitation & LA Residency in April

Australian psych band Stonefield -- made up of sisters Amy, Hannah, Sarah, and Holly Findlay -- have announced their signing to Flightless Records (King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, The Babe Rainbow.) Their first release for Flightless is new single " Delusion ," which comes as a follow-up to their sophomore LP, As Above, So Below.

"Delusion" marks a shift from the hardened psych-pop of the band's earlier records towards a more prog and metal-leaning sound, with heavy waves of operatic synth and tubular bells ringing below guitars and sinister mellotron lines. Inspired by the "overwhelming feeling of knowing you are a speck in the universe, getting lost in your own mind," the song finds Stonefield venturing away from classic song structure in favor of creating more of a hypnotic journey. "Delusion" premiered on triple j's Drive, and it's now available to stream on  YouTube Stonefield have been rendering their powerful mosaic of proto-psych since they were only as tall as the smallest of the strange stone formations that surround their hometown of Victoria, Australia. For over a decade, the Findlay sisters have seemingly existed within their own stellar nebula; unaffected by fleeting modern musical trends, their sound is an homage to the prog, metal and psych powerhouses of the '70s whilst remaining completely their own. As Above, So Below laid a Sabbath-strata from which they’ve launched a legion of dedicated followers and attracted bookings for festival dates and tours with everyone from Meat Puppets to Fleetwood Mac.

Stonefield will kick off 2018 with select shows in Sydney and Melbourne before heading to the US for a residency at LA's Bootleg Theater and a performance at Austin's Levitation. See below for all upcoming dates.

Stonefield on Tour:
February 2: Sydney @ The Lansdowne
February 3: Melbourne @ The Curtin
April 2: Los Angeles, CA @ The Bootleg Theater
April 9: Los Angeles, CA @ The Bootleg Theater
April 16: Los Angeles, CA @ The Bootleg Theater
April 23: Los Angeles, CA @ The Bootleg Theater

The Cold Equations: The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack Announced, Out 2/1, Feat. Mems of Arcade Fire, Bon Iver, TV on the Radio

The Cold Equations: The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack  Announced, Out February 1

Listen to Track  "He Meant It The Way It Sounded"

The Cold Equations features Stuart Bogie (TV on the Radio), Sarah Neufeld (Arcade Fire), Colin Stetson (Bon Iver), David Cook (Taylor Swift) and more.

The release of the Morricone-esque soundtrack to an imaginary film  The Cold Equations,  has been announced today. Composed by Josh Urist and co-produced/arranged by Stuart Bogie (Superhuman Happiness, Antibalas, Arcade Fire, Iron and Wine, TV on the Radio), the album will be available on 180g vinyl and digital download on February 1, 2018 on Yeggs Records.  Inspired by a 1954 science fiction short story by Tom Godwin, this story follows a worker drone on a distant planet who hunts down the corrupt officials responsible for the death of his little sister. The music is emotional, evocative, and riveting—the movie, however, is fake. Listen and share the track “He Meant It The Way It Sounded” here and pre-order the record here.

Composer Josh Urist isn’t the first musician to use the soundtrack-to-an-imaginary-film conceit, but he and his close-knit crew of musicians breathe new life into the idea. For his goal isn’t kitsch or homage, but instead, the soundtrack concept gives the music an emotional tug that is as real as the film is fake.

Working with co-producer Stuart Bogie, Urist uses the visual language of film music to conjure moments with visceral impact. A Morricone-esque standoff; a frenetic Quincy Jones-style chase scene; cosmic soul in the vein of Air. While analog synths and drum machines give you the interstellar textures, the acoustic guitars and wind instruments provide the warmth and humor of a human heart beating in the airless vacuum of a distant galaxy.

Urist assembled a team of crack studio musicians to perform, many of them old friends from Urist’s time as a music student in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Contributors include regular Urist collaborator and fellow Masters of Reality performer John Leamy (Masters of Reality, Surgery) drums; Colin Stetson (Ex Eye, Bon Iver) saxophones and french horn;David Cook (Taylor Swift, Lizz Wright, Alan Ferber, Jennifer Hudson) organ and pianos;Adam Roberts, bass; Jeff Plankenhorn, weissenborn guitar; Sarah Neufeld (Arcade Fire, Bell Orchestre) violin; and Rachel Webster (Bernie Worrell) vocals. Urist plays guitars, bass, pianos, vocals, banjo, jaw harp, trumpet, and the Roland GR-500 guitar synthesizer. Bogie plays saxophones, clarinets, drum machines, bass, piano, flute, harmonicas, jaw harps, and drums. Album art and design by John Leamy.
