This June, Governors Ball will celebrate its eighth consecutive year as New York City’s premiere live music event, and by acclamation, one of the top music festivals in North America. “Governors Ball is New York City’s festival,” wrote Nylon following last year’s stellar event, which featured many show stopping performances including a memorable set from Childish Gambino, his only North American performance that year. “It combines the best of what this sleepless city has to offer, from food vendors to talent and downtown style.” The 2017 festival also left performers enamored as well, with Lorde proclaiming that that Governors Ball was “on some magical spiritual shit.”
This summer, Founders Entertainment will continue working overtime to bring that “magical spiritual” vibe to Governors Ball patrons at the festival grounds on Randall's Island Park (supported, maintained and programmed by the Randall's Island Park Alliance www.randallsisland.org). The 2018 festival will feature a signature lineup of the best food NYC has to offer, craft beer and cocktail options, and the lawn games, mini golf (two unique 18 hole courses), street art, After Dark concert series, and the “only in New York” experiences “Gov Ball” has become known and loved for. The festival will also add two new 21+ areas, building upon last year’s introduction of the popular “Best Kept Secret” 21+ oasis.
Governors Ball has focused on giving back to the greater New York City community since inception, and will continue that trend with the 2018 festival. Helmed by born and bred New Yorkers, Founders Entertainment will look to build upon their efforts surrounding last year’s event. In 2017, Governors Ball pumped a record-breaking $62.4 million into New York City’s economy, bringing the past four years cumulative total (2014-2017) to $185+ million dollars. The festival also created more than 430 jobs and generated $31 million in wages. Governors Ball continued its long track record of giving back to the community by working with and donating to local organizations, non-profits, and community groups as well. More information on Governors Ball’s economic impact and community engagement may be found here.
In addition to being accessible by MTA bus, bike, cab, and ferry service from Mid-Town Manhattan to and from the festival grounds, the festival is accessible to pedestrians via the RFK Bridge, the 103rd street footbridge, and Bronx Randall’s Island Connector.

Blige), the album was tracked and mixed at the brand-new Reservoir Studios—site of the legendary Skyline Studios where TMBG recorded their platinum-selling album Flood.

This Groundbreaking Black Frontwoman Has Sage Advice
On Making Your Own Way

Before Janelle Monáe was out there rocking a suit and a fedora, there was Pauline Black—the innovative, rebellious frontwoman of UK ska band The Selecter. Below, Black reflects on what's changed and what hasn't for women of color in the industry. It is simultaneously inspiring and depressing to imagine what Pauline Black must have experienced as a frontwoman in the 1970s. As the singer for the groundbreaking 2 tone ska revival band The Selecter, Black moved in an industry long dominated by a white patriarchal structure. And as a black woman with an androgynous aesthetic, doors did not open easily for her.But listen to even a few notes of Black's buoyant, bursting-with-life vocals, and it's clear that she possessed a fearlessness and singular artistry that enabled her to be the innovator that she was and still is today—and she made it her own way.Click HERE to Read Pauline's Interview w/ Girlboss!
Pauline Black: Queen of Ska and The Selecter

“I have faith in the human race. No matter how bad things get,
people always manage to see some daylight at the end of the tunnel.”

Try as some may, to make it otherwise, women cannot be written out of history. Pauline Black is a name many will link to the Rude Girl image she cultivated in the late ’70s as lead singer of The Selecter.A two-tone ska band from Coventry, The Selecter — alongside bands like The Specials and Madness — worked their way into the music scene at the edge of the ’70s. Two-tone was a fresh take on ska; a take aimed at dissolving the racial tensions of Thatcher-era Britain. Hence its name: two-tone.Click HERE to Read Pauline's Interview w/ Inspirer Magazine!

With right-wing governments once again ruling Britain and the United States,
The Selecter has returned as well...

...the live show, led by the charismatic rude girl Pauline Black,
still packs a punch after nearly forty years.

...The Selecter sound as focused and driven as ever.

...Black has no intention of slowing down.

The Selecter was and is one of the premier bands in the style known as 2-Tone...

STONEFIELD SIGN TO FLIGHTLESS RECORDS Listen to new single 'Delusion' now

Australia's Stonefield Signs to Flightless Records

Stream New Single " Delusion ,"
Playing Levitation Festival & LA Residency in April

Photo courtesy of StonefieldAustralian psych band Stonefield -- made up of sisters Amy, Hannah, Sarah, and Holly Findlay -- have announced their signing to Flightless Records (King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, The Babe Rainbow.) Their first release for Flightless is new single " Delusion ," which comes as a follow-up to their sophomore LP, As Above, So Below.

"Delusion" marks a shift from the hardened psych-pop of the band's earlier records towards a more prog and metal-leaning sound, with heavy waves of operatic synth and tubular bells ringing below guitars and sinister mellotron lines. Inspired by the "overwhelming feeling of knowing you are a speck in the universe, getting lost in your own mind," the song finds Stonefield venturing away from classic song structure in favor of creating more of a hypnotic journey. "Delusion" premiered on triple j's Drive, and it's now available to stream on  SoundCloud Stonefield have been rendering their powerful mosaic of proto-psych since they were only as tall as the smallest of the strange stone formations that surround their hometown of Victoria, Australia. For over a decade, the Findlay sisters have seemingly existed within their own stellar nebula; unaffected by fleeting modern musical trends, their sound is an homage to the prog, metal and psych powerhouses of the '70s whilst remaining completely their own. As Above, So Below laid a Sabbath-strata from which they’ve launched a legion of dedicated followers and attracted bookings for festival dates and tours with everyone from Meat Puppets to Fleetwood Mac.

Stonefield will kick off 2018 with select shows in Sydney and Melbourne before heading to the US for a residency at LA's Bootleg Theater and a performance at Austin's Levitation. See below for all upcoming dates.

ABOUT STRAY CATS :STRAY CATS, the band that put Rockabilly music back on the record charts in the early '80s, scored several big hits on both sides of the Atlantic thanks to a striking visual 1950's style brought "up to date" with exaggerated pompadours and colorful tattoos and as well as genuine musical chops that evoked the best players of rockabilly's original heyday. Formed by guitarist/vocalist Brian Setzer, upright bass player Lee Rocker and drummer Slim Jim Phantom in the Long Island town of Massapequa, NY, in 1979, the trio shared a love for Rockabilly music and after banging around New York and Philadelphia for a few months, in the summer of 1980, they were persuaded by a mutual friend to hop a plane to London where a rockabilly revival movement was just beginning to emerge. Their massive hits and videos include "Runaway Boys," "Rock This Town," "Stray Cat Strut" "(She's) Sexy + 17," and "I Won't Stand in Your Way."  For more information on the STRAY CATS, visit:Official Website | Facebook

A Perfect Circle Welcome 2018 with New Song "Disillusioned"

A PERFECT CIRCLE WELCOME 2018 WITH NEW SONG “DISILLUSIONED”http://smarturl.it/DisillusionedYT
LIMITED EDITION “THE DOOMED/DISILLUSIONED”10-INCH SINGLE AVAILABLE MARCH 9       Los Angeles – Jan. 2, 2018 – A Perfect Circle welcomed 2018 with the release of ‘Disillusioned," the second piece of new music from their forthcoming BMG debut. Listen to the song here: http://smarturl.it/DisillusionedYT.

“Disillusioned” stands in stark contrast to “The Doomed,” the first track the band previewed from the as-of-yet untitled album. Where “The Doomed” felt “apocalyptic” (Rolling Stone) and the track’s video (http://smarturl.it/TheDoomedVideo) was “eerie” and “intense” (Revolver), “Disillusioned” strikes a more optimistic tone, urging listeners to connect with each other once again.

“’The Doomed’ was a rude wake-up call… apologies if you were sleeping peacefully,” said Billy Howerdel of the tone of the bombastic song. “’Disillusioned’ comes from a place of overcoming the slide into the numb. It speaks to reconnection and a fresh start to a new year.”

Addressing the musicality of the song, which echoes the sentiment of unity, Maynard James Keenan said: “Attempting new approaches to composing can be intimidating. Especially with an established project with such a recognizable sound. But sometimes you just gotta take the first swing. Only way to grow.”

A limited edition,10-inch single for “The Doomed/Disillusioned” arrives on March 9. The collectible vinyl has a dual pressing of both songs on side A and a screen-printed B-side. Pre-orders are available now: http://smarturl.it/APC10.    A Perfect Circle has confirmed a trio of U.S. festival performances for this Spring: Las Rageous, Northern Invasion and Rock on the Range which will be followed by the band’s first European tour in close to fifteen years (dates below).
