I wish I could give you a fascinating blog today but the fact is, I’m wiped out. This has been a very busy busy week and I’m barely keeping my head above water. Have to get ready for Yom Kippur and the holiday this weekend … and I’m seriously fried and exhausted, so forgive me! Are you having a quieter, more relaxing week than I am?

Always Something by Carly
My daughter is now a senior in high school and she decided to quit field hockey for cheerleading – and she made the varsity team.
Exciting right? It should have been … until she fell – from 6 ft in the air – came down on her ankle – and no, not broken but she’s got a high ankle sprain. First the ankle was the size of a baseball. Now it swells and goes down some, but it’s turning black. As in black and blue but mostly black. We wrap it daily. She’s in a high boot. She’s on crutches. She can’t drive until she can bear weight on it. We live in a colonial so she slides up and down the stairs on her butt. And when she need something, it’s, mom – get me my computer, get my cell phone, I need my pillows to elevate, please get me ice, I’m due for Motrin … you get the gist. From this, I have realized that I’m spoiled by having a seventeen and twenty-one year old. Taking care of her/helping her out when she’s home is a full time job! Add in the emotional worry? And I am wiped out! My brain is blank as far as an interesting blog … but for this! I will say that I’ve tricked out her crutches in pink … what else!?

I’m Getting Old …
I used to be able to wake up at 6 with my daughter no problem. And summers were lazier and I’d get up at 7. This year I’m lucky to be able to crawl out of bed by 7:30 and nothing else has changed from the night before so it’s not like I’m getting less sleep! This throws off my entire day because my ideal morning goes like this:
6 AM I wake up
6:30 AM I wake her up
7 AM she leaves for school and I get on the treadmill (like 3 days a week otherwise I lounge)
8 AM shower
9 AM sit down and write
So you see, the fact that I JUST woke up and realized I had no blog post up (thank you Julie!) and it’s 9 AM and I haven’t done anything except feed and walk the dogs … this is a problem.
For those of you who have gone through this before me … do I force my body out of bed earlier to keep to earlier schedule? Or do I readjust my thinking and push everything back? For the record, neither is appealing. Aaah! I’m such a creature of habit and routine this is killing me, LOL!

This and That
Hi, all. I’m on vacation with the hubby which is SO nice. I have things on my mind and I’ll just have at it and you can pick and choose what you want to discuss with me today! I’m sitting in for Julie, who will be here tomorrow.
~ Hug your loved ones – life is short. We lost a college friend who was a year younger than me to a stroke this week. We are reeling … so just that. Hug those you love. Tell them. Often.
~ You all know I’m an Apple junkie and if you don’t know, you clearly haven’t been here in the early days when I hung out on the first iPhone line, LOL. Well my beloved 3 1/2 year old Mac Book Air started to show signs of hard drive failure. That means about 6 mos or less left on the Apple Care Warranty. Before I lost my life, I hit the Apple store, thinking I’d purchase a new Air. Instead I bought something I didn’t know about! (SHOCKING I KNOW!) – the new Macbook Pro Retina Display – 13″; only half a pound more than my Air, an amazing screen which for my aging eyes is awesome … and LIGHT! Then spent 14 hours migrating info from old Air to new laptop, then 2 hours on phone with Microsoft getting new Mac to load and let me use Word – and while on the phone they deleted about 3 old versions I had laying around using up hard drive space. So now I have a brand spanking new Mac laptop that makes me smile every time I click on the new keyboard!
~ Despite being on vacation, I’m not finding a whole lot to read. That’s what I get for being such a fast reader that I’ve already devoured most new things out there.
~ So I’m working on a new story/series that I can not wait to unveil along with other exciting news. But Janelle has taught me to sit on things, to think first, plan, and act later. So I’m … planning.
~ And lastly, if you were lucky enough to be one of the 200 + to receive a free inscribed copy of THE RIGHT CHOICE and if you feel so inclined, please remember to leave a review on some of the sites like Amazon, BN.com, iTunes, and/or Goodreads. Thank you!
So like I said, choose whatever you want to talk about today!

Special Day – Be My Guinea Pig!
Today I am going to be testing out a way for me to get PERSONALIZED eBOOK copies of my self-published eBooks into your hands. The way I envision using this in the future is as follows – when I have a new book out and I want to get reader reviews, I hope to be able to send you free ebooks this way, similar to the way we did with SERENDIPITY’S FINEST only a more limited amount of readers will be chosen and this is eBook only. Right now there is no signature portion that works for me, so you’ll receive a typed note – still cool – and a free book!
Today we’re testing the concept. I have 200 credits which means 200 people who can receive copies of THE RIGHT CHOICE, an older Carly Phillips book written as Karen Drogin. If you receive a copy of this book, I hope you will come back here and let me know how the download process worked for you, if you’d do it again, and as always, if you enjoy the book, please leave a review on Amazon, BN.com, iTunes, Goodreads, Facebook, Twitter, Blogs, or whatever social media platform works for you!
Here is my page on SUBSTANCE B - I hope you enjoy a peek.
Note – I have tested this myself. Once you receive the email letting you know you got the book, you must follow the directions depending on what platform you’ll read it on – COMPUTERS INCLUDED, which is how I tested mine. I had to do a free download of Adobe Digital Edition Reader.
So … BE ONE OF THE FIRST 200 PEOPLE TO SIGN UP FOR A FREE COPY OF THE RIGHT CHOICE, one of my older titles and enjoy! All you need to do is:
1. comment below,
2. make sure the email you are signed up with here is the one you want to receive the book, and
3. indicate if you want mobi (kindle) or .epub (Nook etc.) files.
4. Please fill out CONTACT FORM at BOTTOM of Carly’s Substance B page – request autograph
And lastly have patience … I’m going to need to send these out one by one!

Another Day, Another …
Headache. Odd. I had a blissful two months where I thought I had these things kicked and then BOOM they’re back. Ugh. So I’m late getting this up … and thank you for your patience. What I wanted to talk to you about today was the usual EBOOK versus PRINT BOOK conversation. Nope, not an either/or thank goodness! I wanted to tell you that you can now get PERFECT PARTNERS, THE RIGHT CHOICE, and SOLITARY MAN in PRINT!
And they are GORGEOUS. 5×8, glossy covers, simply beautiful if I do say so myself.
What you need to know is that when an author publishes her work herself and not through a NY publisher there are pros and cons. The pros? You get the books faster. You get the books CHEAPER. i.e. these three books, hard to find for ages, are $2.99 in eBook. The cons? If you are a die-hard print reader then you have to pay a premium for the print books. How do you buy them if not in a book store? You just go to Amazon and order the books! They’re more expensive because it costs more to make a print book, there isn’t a publisher doing the work in bulk, and even as authors when we set the price for you, there is a set # at which we can not go lower – or the book won’t be listed for sale. Doing these books in print is a labor of love. We have to pay extra for the covers, the formatting, etc. We don’t make much money off these books because frankly people don’t want to pay the price. BUT. There are those of you who do. And we love you for it. So big hugs. And honestly, you pay that price for trade books anyway, you just aren’t used to it for many romances.
So here you go, my babies, PERFECT PARTNERS, THE RIGHT CHOICE, and SOLITARY MAN, in PRINT!

And to have a discussion today, when you read authors who have gone “Indie” do you ever buy their print books at the higher price?
