I think I am starting to understand the appeal of the Fifth Doctor.

I’ve been kinda on a mystery/thriller kick lately and decided to finally start the top of these (I’ve read One Shot and a few others). I got it from my library and S’pretty fun opening! I also love that the show basically didn’t fuck with it much beyond a slight reorder of events and small expansion of the POV.

I love that the opening of this is basically like “here’s all the shitty, self-obsessed people I’m going to be scaring the shit out of for 250 or so pages. Really hope you like them but actually, I don’t give a fuck. GHOSTS!”

I still don’t love Jake being a relative cypher in the opening pages of The Way Station but I do truly love Roland like instantly being like “oh fuck I love this kid don’t I? And it’s gonna really fuck me ISNT it?”

I am genuinely really shocked at how much EoTD I’m clocking in this now. It’s also amazing to see just how well the world-building and establishment of Mid-World’s “rules” STILL works now. It’s never showy or didactic but it’s consistent and voluminous enough for you to pick it up really quickly. I’m happy this is still fun after I’ve read it so many times between then/now. (Even dozen seems low)
