Simmons is almost criminally good at openings.

Truly the mind of Tanabe to be like, “you know what Innsmouth really needs? Some major Silent Hill vibes.”

Oh this is VERY cute and clever. And the actually funny and charming cute/clever instead of the usual insisting upon oneself you get with other books that try this tone.

Part Two: The MicMac Burying Ground.

(Two things. 1. I was absolutely wrong about Sai King going full Lovecraft in Revival. THIS is full Lovecraft and just packed to bursting with dread. But 2. I also am kinda loving how much Louis is a shit in this. The movies always paint him so woodenly, it’s nice to see the source material characterization is a lot more chippy and arrogant at times).

I feel like this one is going to properly fuck me up. I might have to read something silly inbetween working through it.

It’s been interesting reading this so closely after Hyperion as they are getting more and more parallel narratively (and also because they were released like barely 3 years apart)
