This one started really well, it held promise... and then it took a huge nosedive at about 30% and it keeps sinking since !!! The romantic story arc is badly developed, the balance between character motives, basic common sense, fidelity to Austen & adaptation to a new contemporary plot is a DISASTER !! Then a few undorgivable situations go on, that actually make me regret this book...

Silly Lizzy hangs by while repentant Darcy goes through a Kingdom-wide adventure to unite Jane & Bingley in their love story. At the end Lizzy falls inlove with Pemberly and accepts that Darcy comes with it -- bummer!

This Lizzy is shallow & mercenary, Darcy is cold and barely likes Elizabeth (it makes no sense why he proposed on this version!).

Too much angst. Too much nonsense. Fragmented storytelling. Did I say too angsty???

I tried giving this author the benefit of the doubt, because I have had huge trouble w/ her writing (poorly edited, mistakes regarding Regency period, customs & protocol, plus childlike plots and character responses that are cartoonish and an insult to Miss Austen herself). I just came so far before I was reminded of *why* I usually skim this author off from my reading pile. I will try to pull through!

This is strange.
I have an edition that claims to be a P&P retelling, but it's not, it is a 50 Shades retelling...!! Also, the hero has a different name than the one here on Goodreads 🤔🔍

What in the world is going on here??

This book has interesting plot points and nice moments. But mainly, the structure of the plot, the weaving of the story elements and many relevant details, do not hold water... there are so many strange inconistencies...!!

I hate it when characters and plotlines make no sense, not even within the story... 😭

This is not going well... I don't want to read about Darcy being sexually abused... 😐

Why do I read stuff that's so upsetting to me...? (and I don't mean the kink)

This was one looong pending book to pick up 😬✌🏼

The basic idea was interesting; the planning of the story relating to actions/reactions, clues/facts and logical reasoning are all crap !!

It was becoming both convoluted & dragging... and now there's a sordid trap that I do not care about... I will have to skip through it !

In this series people are incredibly practical and rational regarding marriage, until they suddenly feel a very medical physical reaction when they get aroused, and then they analytically link those symptoms to sexual attraction to guy-X, and then they realize they are actually touching said guy's chests... very weird!

My heart is breaking over here...!

This is one intense, soul crushing journey...! This author has a talent to make you read through tough stuff... I think I might be about to reach the final healing part.

I had forgotten how much I love this author's writing !! She's one smart woman...

This is one fantastic, tense (not really angsty, but close!) well planned piece of story-telling !!

Halfway into the book and this relationship is going nowhere !! Nor is there really any hope for a common path in the near (or middle distance) future... 🙈

Yeap, too much drama, trust issues turned into actual lies and betrayal, I see this relationship going nowhere 🙈😭

It seems to me that stories #1 and #2 do not match... yes, there are significant events that coincide, but the rest of the content looks off... how does a struggling student/athlete/nightshift-worker/young-dad synch with a womanizer jock & partyboy who serially sleeps around and flirts with everything that moves...???

Why so much heartache, regrets and unfixable mistakes? When these pile on too high, I feel that there's no point to drag the story onwards...

There needs to be a delicate (and not equal) balance in second chance romances between regret & hope. For my taste, the former should *not* outweight the latter... I'm in pain here !!

Is this going to be a cry-fest...??? Yes, yes it will !!

Aaand, this Elizabeth explains personal details to the help... will it be 1 or 2 stars??

The most ridiculous, contrived and nonsensical compromise scene *ever*!!

I won't be voting in the Goodreads Choice Awards this year, I find the initial selection biased and heavily sponsored... so sad !

My heart is bursting from the sweet romance of this !!

I am certain I read this in a different format a looong time ago. Let's see how it compares with my fuzzy memories...
