Lit Reader is 50% done with Elizabeth & Darcy 2000: Whispers of Pemberley (Whispers of Pemberley Trilogy Book 3)
The Austen literary criticism interrupts the plot and overpowers the narration. Infind myself impatient and scrolling forward. The story telling drags quite a bit. The driving plot of the Father’s Mystery Obsassion makes little sense and it’s also a huge obstacle int he narration (his plot has been explained 15 times, and still it’s unclear!)

Dragging, boring, the initial premise of Darcy arriving to Longbourn first ahead of Netherfield — it has no impact on the story at all

Why this Lizzy goes on and on and on about men wanting to “possess her” becauase of her music? Thia is entirely nonsensical, and illlgical as Lizzy keeping a life-altering secret from Jane, but sharing it freely with Sir William Lucas. Unbelievable, counter intuitive, sloppy story-telling…

1/4 into the story and it’s a very detailed narration of the “witch’s” life and grievances… I am now invested in her sorrow, her perspective, and not at all sympathetic to any darcys…

So far it’s a non-stop whinefest of Darcy being snubbed left and right, his honor destroyed by rumors and him rendered absolutely incapable to challenge it. He is a social pariah and has lost all social standing, not even his noble family has any capacity to shield him.

So far, not one scene introducing Elizabeth yet…

Preachy Lizzy judging Old Mr. Darcy for no reason at all, Mr. Darcy is evidently horrified! >> “I do not believe that your father’s grief excuses him from doing his duty to his children, and still less if he loved those children. It argues a selfishness that I do not understand and cannot condone.”

Direct quote by Thomas Bennet to his niece Lydia (aged 14) >>> You are one stupid girl if that is what you think. I am your guardian. I can beat you, I can starve you, I can make you live in a cottage all by yourself with no one to tend you. I can make your life as miserable as you have made everyone else’s. And there is not one thing you can do to stop me,” he said grimly.

I hate stories where the author delights in chastising characters, punishing, putting them “in their place”, particularly women characters, and worse when the author lets free with sadistic tendencies to lock up characters, restrict their food, or even physical punishment. Austen never did that, her female characters were not dealt like this…

Insufferable Mary Sues I can take. Gratuitous torturing of characters is a big NO. Physical abuse of Lizzy, jailer’s abuse and mistreatment. Just NO!

The plot is repetitive, dragging and off tone, the “versus” theme gets old really quick and is dragged beyond comprehension or entertainment. Boring and it doesn’t read like Austenesque at all.

The premise on the blurb was interesting, but the execution so far is really bad, all the former Bennet girls remain exactly the same now they are Misses Darcy, and Darcy doesn’t even like them, they are bothersome, uneducated, and a burden to himself (who only mildly likes one sister out of 5, Georgiana, of course!)

Into 1/3 of the story already, and Darcy still 100% puts Georgiana’s manipulation first and foremost, regardless of hurting Lizzy, humiliating her, or insulting her honour in front of his family by his inaction

The blurb says Mr. Bennet becomes a Baron, but also says he inherits a “baronetcy” — Big Mistake!

The domain of a Baron is a Barony; these are Peers of the realm

Baronetcies are the domain of Baronets — these are NOT Peerages, but a separate rank of the titled gentry, addressed by the style of “Sir” instead of Lord
