A lot of info on an introduction of characters, community description, and secondary characters’ pairings — not really a slow build, just a lot of effort put into the intro and social set-up in order to paint a detailed tableau for this alternate universe

Elizabeth is more agreeable to consider to prostitute herself to breed an her for her brother-in-law, that she was every willing to consider an honourable marriage proposal from Darcy. I am forced to understand that this Elizabeth is a mentally unstable hysteric (in the old sense of the diagnosis), and NOT a sound, honourable, genteel lady!

Now Elizabeth is subject to physical violence by her brother-in-laws staff, she’s imprisoned, bruised, pinned down to take her child away from her every 4 hours….. and all this because Charlotte betrayed her and sold her off to her brother-in-law in exchange for a comfortable carriage ride to Meryton! DELIGHTFUL !!!

Oh My God !!!!!! This Elizabeth is seriously mentally unbalanced, she actually wants to harm her child through poverty and serious humiliation. This is beyond ridiculous and doesn’t pass any test for internal logic, historical soundness, or thoughtful romance storytelling. What I just read about the christening is BAD TASTE and a hard pass!

This Darcy is so “honorable” as to abandon Lizzy in poverty and unprotected in a random norther city, with no servants or family, no protection from strangers, on her own with a newborn, just because he is so “gentlemanly” as not to contraeict her irrational wishes of Feminist “independence” — this is seriously the worst Austen Variation I have come across…

This is the STUPIDEST Elizabeth I have ever read in any Austen Variation >>> ridiculous, careless, obstinate to the point of self destruction, parental neglect, maybe even criminal neglect… sordid setting and circumstances for Elizabeth’s childbirth. Why ?????

The feminist rant got old 100 pages ago! The boring recitation of every pne of Lizzy’s woes, her deep abiding hatred of “men” in general, make the character absolutely insufferable ! I wish Darcy got rid of her and started courting Charlotte, who is much more sensible, less damaged, and more grateful of his kindnesses…

Why does Lizzy torture us with sooooo much repetition of her woes???? Endless listing of her suffering and her indecision — this needs serious editing !

THIS. IS. SO. SORDID !!!!!!!

The narration is really somber, not much joy to be found at all; Darcy is besieged by threats, inuendo, and blackmail — clues are blantant and in his face… yet he is deaf and blind to all logic and common sense. That’s irritating and out of character! Darcy is by definition a man “of sense and education”, not this naive, childish, easy to dupe young man that others take advantage of!

3/4ths into the story Darcy still believes Lizzie is married elsewhere. At about 80% in, when the final second peoposal happens, Lizzie thinks Darcy is offering her carte-blanche. This story is nothing short of reader torture for no reason. Silly exercise in angst building.

Too angsty, too much dragging out the pain, the missed encounters, the despair… what for???

High angst, a highly emotional Lizzy acts like an impulsive waterpot, while being hot and cold with Darcy. Meanwhile Darcy hurt Lizzy badly 3 years ago, and I don’t buy the idea that they would do well together at all after such deep contempt and betrayal existing between them.

The pace is very fast, the dialogue hits like a live play, a farse! No one lets the others speak, they interrupt and pose ridiculours nonsensical situations one after the other. And on top of that, high angst — Please make it stop!

A story in which all the Bennet sisters are grasping, mercenary, social climbing upstarts, and Lizzy is seriously balancing the possibility of marrying Cnel Fitzwilliam just because he would be such good help so her family gained social acceptance in London circles!

A story in which Jane (Mrs. Collins) and Charlotte are bitter fortune hunters, pushing Lizzy into a staged trap situation so that she ends up engaged to Darcy for purely mercenary reasons and against her own hopes and wishes! Does this sound redeemable to you???

So far super gloomy and angsty. Not much pf a romantic story arc at all !

The story has no arc, it seems as if different scenes were written independently as an excercise and glued together in a rush to make up a book. I can’t understand the high ratings on this… puzzling!

Georgiana elopes. What’s Darcy’s reaction? Pretty much to say “Ok, Wickham, you can have her. Bye!” And then he went to spend quality time with Bingley in Netherfield…

An angst fest — Elizabeth has a lot of baggage. Her lifestyle won’t ever combine with William’s. He has a lot of serious issues too, guilt, pain, trauma, grieve. She doesn’t make him particularly happy. They are just attracted to each other. But they can’t because he is her lawyer (eye roll). I don’t see the story taking a turn for the better here.

“Fare cousin” instead of “fair”
“Protégé” instead of “prodigy”

Careless use of language and poor editing…

The preachy, kindergarten teacher like tone keepa going. Elizabeth or Darcy re-tell entire portions of the story to a prop audience who ask thrm to explain again, who listen quietly while they reflect, re-frame, and offer unneeded context for a dumb third-party listeners/readers (us). The characters are cumbersome and unlikeable. Not a fun read so far.

The story jumps back and forth on abrupt time loops — one moment Lizzy is about to go to the assembly, the next paragraph she is remembering the assembly with her maid, who is maid-splaining last night events to Lizzy, who was deaf, blind, and dumb to it all. Also, the preachy, miss teacher tone that both Lizzy and her maid use with eachother is absolutely irritating, poor narrator device!

If Mr Darcy is elevated to a Peerage, it’s customary to make a request to the Rolls to “update” the style of address of a mother/sister/daughter, so that they reflect the appropriate courtesy style, even including kinship to dead relatives who skipped said peerage. In sunmary, if Darcy becomes Lord Dorset, Georgiana would become “Lady Georgiana Darcy” instead of plain Miss Darcy

This is so ridiculous that it has turned straight into satire… Elizabeth is so wealthy that she is the secret owner of shipyards, hotse breeding stables, and well known gentlemen’s clubs! There is no tomance at all with Darcy here — she is inlove with her own wealth and business activities, and Darcy has no need for a Wolf of Wallstreet wife!

This Elizabeth is the biggest, most perfect Mary Sue to ever live >> she is ridiculously wealthy, mostly out of her own unbelievable talent for business (she seems to be a Victorian female Elon Musk — eye roll)

Every one else is lowly and miserly; Mrs. Bennet is described as “a fishwife” more than one (WHAT?!??)

I dislike plots where female characters are punished, in a sadistic display from the author >> seeing Caroline shunned, shamed, and sent away was not enough, the author had to use physical violence on her, involving a gun accident and a gruesome death…

This story is too convoluted, and it drags on quite a bit — quick scrolling to get to the end.

It’s absolutely boring and irritating to see Elizabeth pontificate and lecture all the Bennets for entire chapters, and worse, foe what it seems to be the rest of the book…!

Why is Darcy having nausea attacks and mock heart attacks with bouts of facial paralisis???? What is this about?????
