Kya, Marsha Girl. May think she is alone but at the end of the day...she right now has Jumpin, Mabel and Tate. A lonely girl, abandoned but has more beauty in her life than she realizes because of the life she has carved out for herself. It may not be a life of luxury but she has survival skills, the marsh and the gulls. I love this novel. The murder of Chase Andrews...is truly secondary to this extraordinary read.

Every now and again, an author writes description of a place that truly transports you to the location of the novel as if you sitting back in a chair watching and experiencing it all. As if you're actually there. A picture painted with words. So far, Delia Owens has painted a picture with words in this novel. I can feel my toes in the sand, hear th and see Kya doing everything to survive! I cannot but this novel down

Monsieur Perdu what journey will you lead us on? Who broke your heart and how did you take refuge in books? How did books become your medicine?

I feel like this novel will never end for me. It is not a bad read it just seems it has not resolved much. The main character of Eliza seems like she just can't find her way. Even married she seems to question everything. Got into the marriage for all the wrong reasons. Seems like the good girl went for the bad boy and she keeps trying to make it work but will it really. She has so much unresolved feelings.

I am transfixed by this novel thus far. I am half way through it and this line in the novel jumped out at me.... "Tea reminds us to slow down and escape the pressures of modern life". As a tea drinker, so apropos.

I find the characters and setting interesting. I would like to see how her past brings her full circle in her life.

Note to self...go back to books and stay off reading books on tablet. I drag my heels to much when it is on the tablet!

Easy, historical read with a main character who keeps pushing the envelope. Fascinating character study of prohibition rum runners here in New Jersey.

Ann Howard Creel is the author of The Magic of Ordinary Days. When finding my next read I tripped upon The Whiskey Sea . The story takes place in the Highland area of NJ back in the 1930s. The main character Freida is strong and I look forward to more of her character development. So far, I am really liking this one!

I can't believe I started this in Jan! My mistake here was purchasing on my tablet. I am old school. I need the feel of the pages and the smell of a book. With the tablet I find I am distracted.

I still love the characters and keeping hoping to just finish this wonderful story to see how it all wraps up.

I find this novel to be very sad. The Mother is harsh towards her children and towards the Father because of their religious convictions the children are not allowed to just be. The oldest daughter Rachel wants to break out and be modern. She pushes back and then she is called names by the mother, harsh names all because she feels her daughter is being watched by the community and she is spoiling her reputation.

Not exactly a thrilling read but ok just the same. Always need a lighter read before starting anything heavy.

Picked this one up at the library. An interesting read so far though I find it a bit sad that the main character of Rachel lives in a life where a library card is denied her by her family. Very sad indeed.

This is my second Kate Morton read. From that very first paragraph, her words wrap around you and pull you into the story so you will crave more and keep turning those pages. It looks like the Secret Keeper is drawing me in the same way! I love the way Ms. Morton writes. She does remind me so much of my modern day favorite authors Colleen McCollough and Catherine Cookson!

Sarah Grimke travels to Philadelphia with her ailing father to speak to a Northern doctor, his prescription sea air and where do you think they sent them? Long Branch, NJ! How fabulous hearing about Long Branch in the 1800s!
