An interesting start. A little jarring, because you're sort of dropped into these different perspectives without knowing connections. I trust Albert to get me where I need to go, though, so am anxious to get a bit further in this one.

They're just going to have to blow up the whole island.

Out of all the different perspectives, I am loving Delphine's the most. There's something so fascinating about the world of the Sirens. Their politics, etc., I almost with that would have been its own book!

I would def recommend reading the books in this series back-to-back.
I loved the first book, but I received it as an ARC and read it well over a year ago. I am happy to be back with these characters, but it's taken me half the book to get acclimated to being back in this world. Smith did a great job world-building in the first one, but really provided no refresher here...

I feel like there is so much left to explore and adventures to go on with these characters. I feel like I'm too close to the end and I'm not ready to let go. LOL

So sus -- like how is Dr. Patel just hanging around her property when she gets out of jail...

Is someone actually setting her up?
And why does my mind keep gravitating to Dr. Patel? She did drive her to that first liaison with Gabe. She easily could have followed her and taken pictures to later blackmail her with...

What is with this Elang guy?
I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt, thinking he couldn't possibly be that bad, but dang. How you betray a girl like this!?

This kicks off so quickly. I'm glad I didn't wait in between the first and second book, because this is a fairly smooth transition of the story. So excited to find out the truth of this pearl.

I've really enjoyed this.
It's not perfect, for example, I have found the magic system a little difficult to understand, but I am really enjoying the topics explored, as well as the characters. Looking forward to finishing this one up soon!

The only problem with these books is they're too short.

Wow, learning about the start of Annie and Duncan's relationship has been VERY enlightening. Also, maybe Annie is getting to me, like her paranoia and stuff, but I am not trusting Dr. Patel at all. Could she have something going with Duncan?

An intelligent virus that controls ppl like puppets? Yeah, that is terrifying.

I can't help but picture Giles from Buffy as Headmaster Monroe.

I'm liking Douglas and Everett being together. It's nice for Douglas not to be so alone all the time.

From the start this is giving me heavy We Don't Swim Here vibes, which I enjoyed a lot, so am looking forward to getting further into this.
Douglas, the MC, I like his narrative voice. He's noticing things at his private school that other people either aren't noticing, or they're not admitting to him that they're noticing. It's ominous and heavy. What's going on here?

This has had a couple of really horrifying/spooky things occur thus far. I'm super interested to see how f*ed up this is going to get!!
