Onto the early days of the revolution

enjoying even if it's a bit slow

Looks like American disregard for its military and veterans once the war is over is not a new phenomenon and is as American as America.

Neat to learn that during the Revolutionary war we had an Invalid Corps. Things like that (and the earlier mention of women's involvement in the military) seem to be 2 steps forward and 1 step back.

Some deaths that bring home the Romeo/Juliet parallel and then a quote that cements it.

Interesting that there's a space catholic church. I rarely see religion in any SF (although there are some notable exceptions), and even less a religion from our present vs something that evolved out in space or from an alient species.

Well, we know what the main conflict is going to be, but for some reason this story still isn't grabbing me. That is, I don't find myself looking for excuses to continue.

As a history geek, I'm enjoying this a lot

Past 2/3 and still unsure where these characters are going, narrative-wise

So this Indiana Jones in space thing.... I don't know why but the grave-robbing is giving me some trouble getting into it. Perhaps as the story progresses I'll grow to love the characters enough to get past it.

Can't help but compare with Wayfarers so far. But with perhaps a more unified plot.

Not sure what the overall plot is going to be. Maybe it's not revealed since this appears to be part of a series. I guess we'll see.

More than any other character so far, Sumi makes me want to see a live action adaptation. If someone can portray her oscillations between serious and cloud cuckoolander, it will be brilliant.

This book seems a good companion to The Magicians. While that one was specifically a deconstruction of CS Lewis, this one seems more generic so far. Still would be neat to read back to back and have book club discussion.

Variations on a theme - like Red Rising, except knowledge imbalance is different.

This book is absolutely NOTHING like what I expected. I expected some young kids or maybe teens to end up with the fae and things like summer courts and winter courts. This book is not that. This book is (so far) incredible and I want to cancel everything else in my life until I've finished reading it.

So far it's reading like Romeo and Juliet, but with a power imbalance. We'll see where it goes from here.

Made the Saturday white bread today. Loved it. Can't wait to make more of these.

A tale at least as old as Fritz Lang's Metropolis - the rich folks get the sun/sky and the others live below ground (or at least without access to sun/sky)

I have a pretty good track record of seeing plot twists coming, but this one really shocked me. It shocked me so much I thought the book was going to reveal it was a dream sequence. If I'm not careful I may end up staying up all night this weekend to finish the book.

Although I think a TV/movie adaptation would work best with animation, if they do a live action adaptation I want the Laroo to be Jim Henson Workshop puppets.

The philosophical discussions in this book remind me of Golden Age SF.

Looks like my guess was right. Also, I didn't recognize the name at first, but we have our connection to book 1 - Pei is one of those trapped at the hotel.

With the upcoming solar outage and the different species in one "hotel", I'm fine to predict that the plot is "the hateful eight" in space - whatever that trope is called

So far, not much of an overarching story. More like a series of overlapping vignettes about life on the colony ships.

Wow, things got really dark there!

At first it read to me like the protagonist was Data from Start Trek, but it actually reminds me more of Alan Tudyck's character in Resident Alien.

Very different from the first two, but a neat new corner of the Wayfarers universe.

Even more is piling on. I wonder if Tuttle is a "Sanderlanche" type of author.
