Secrets and masks is kinda butt D: the characters and dialogues are bland as hell. Not comparable to manacled at all. AND not HEA? The hype lied. A read that I was looking forward to turning into obligation read again. Friend homework read. :(

2 chapters a day is a p rough pace when the fic is not engaging at all… the writing is very repetitive and tedious. It makes me wanna run it through ChatGPT and have it reduce the length by 1/2 lol. It’s definitely not as affective as manacled, but also not as purple prosey as greenlight. Just protracted for no reason.

Book 1 ended on a really good cliffhanger so I had to read book two. Which was.. much worse. Good GOD! Without saying too much I guess I’ll say it’s reminiscent of only the bad parts of outlander that made me quit the show. Anyway. Wow. Can’t believe I read this. Cant decide if I enjoyed the read. It was 20% mildly interesting worldbuilding and 80% wtf and 100% why am I reading this. But I did read it so…….

For my unhinged smut book club read. First 80% is equally questionable as/border line better than kiss of the basilisk but the plot twist in the end there was actually so good!!! I hate that the cliffhanger twist is so good now I have to read book two. 😭

So secrets and masks is always hyped as manacled level or better but so far the writing is a lot weaker. @_@ or am I just keeping my distance so the sad ending won’t get to me as much @_@
