More logical fallacies here, it's driving me nuts. Lack of evidence doesn't equate proof of one thing. Just because I have no evidence you're a ninja doesn't mean you're a pirate instead. That kind of nonsense.

Cornwell makes some good points, but it is still filled with logical fallacies. When I have more time I'll go through and write them out. It irritates me to no end we have "lost" some of the materials from the Jack the Ripper case so they are unavailable for more forensic testing. No doubt shoved into someones attic or private vault for gruesome bragging rights. Ugh.

Well researched so far except it's completely littered with logical fallacies. Cornwall believes almost every letter written to the police by "Jack" was actually the killer which, considering how often false claims by innocent parties looking for attention do similar actions I'm surprised at this theory.

"What a dreadful surprise," said Beatty. "For everyone nowadays knows, absolutely is certain, that nothing ever will happen to me. Others die, I go on. There are no consequences, and no responsibilities. Except that there are. but let's not talk about them, eh? By the time the consequences catch up with you, it's too late, isn't it..." pg 109.

"I'm afraid of children my own age. They kill each other. Did it always used to be that way? My uncle says no. Six of my friends have been shot in the last year alone. Ten of them died in car wrecks. I'm afraid of them and they don't like me because I'm afraid. My uncle says his grandfather remembered when children didn't kill each other. But that was a long time ago when they had things different."-Mildred, pg 27

Enjoying this so far and I actually like the way Wells has set up the world and how people function. Sheer survival and thinking on a day to day, moment to moment basis makes sense and attempts at long term planning are going to be challenged in such a large community. So while it's annoying that Gianna is questioning everything their community is doing, dissent makes sense.

When a reviewer compared this to Battlestar Galactica and said it was a *good* example of a dystopia I had to get it immediately. So far it's great.
