The repetition is starting to get to me. This is an article collection rather than a purpose written book, and it shows.

Seeing an Everyman's Library edition of a book that I sold brand new in hardcover makes me feel old. Just stop, EL, stick to authors who were dead before I ever heard of them. thx.

This really has no right to be so engaging. If I read a synopsis of this and didn't know it was KJ Parker, I'd be, ugh, no thanks, pass. I really need to try one of his Tom Holt books.

There is no doubt in my mind that if someone else, say, Brandon Sanderson, were to write the exact same number of words about the same subjects as Parker covers here, somehow I would rather stab myself in the face than continue reading Sanderson's version, whereas Parker manages to interest me.

You can kind of feel something when she's fighting with her family, but mostly not. Suspense fail :(

There is a good story in here, but damn, the narrative style is just. wtf, Raymond Chandler.

I very much like the prose, but she's doing this situation to date recap and instead of just straight narration, she's couching some of it as Lucia's inner monologue. I'm like, nobody thinks like that.

If you're going to write space opera, you really should take a few minutes to wrap your head around light speed and the relative distance between stars.

If you call the shower a "fresher" it makes it space-y!
