I start every morning with 1-2 interviews from this book and have myself a good laugh. The Jeff Garlin interview was wonderfully entertaining. Love this book.

This is somewhat enjoyable, but I can't go out of my way to recommend it. I'm hoping that will change. I'm also hoping the editing improves. Astonishing number of typos. Even city names like Merzouga is spelled Marzouga just one page after being spelled correctly. That shouldn't happen.

Lastly, I can only hope the author is a better meteorologist than storyteller. He's young. And maybe that's to blame. More later.

A very long book. Not as engrossing as "Hawaii" but interesting enough to keep going.

A dense read as much about the history of Siberia, early travelers, and geography as the author's own ventures. Enjoyable, smart, but perhaps too much for anyone with only casual interest.

An exceedingly dense, but highly informational, history on the Cosa Nostra in Sicily. It ventures deep into the weeds of political history, and is written in a style that I would consider, at times, to be obnoxiously obtuse. Yet, a more thorough treatise on the topic, one could hardly imagine.

So far, really good. The one exception being Vowell's periodic asides, in which she complains about George W Bush. The book was clearly authored during the early days of the Iraq War, when many on the political left couldn't imagine a worse president than GWB. Oh, how quaint that all seems following the Trump years.
