ariel *ੈ✩‧₊˚ is 40% done with White Fragility: Why It's So Hard for White People to Talk About Racism
this will be the only book about race by a white author im going to read for a multitude of reasons, but i think this in particular is an important place to start bc this book is written by a white author, for white people. and to echo others, yeah, most whites should read this esp those who call themselves “progressives.” (also i’m surprised by how short this audiobook is, i could probably finish this today.)

“I have always been disturbed by this transition, by the reality that often the only way to capture someone’s attention and to encourage them to recognize their own internal biases (and to work to alter them) is to confront them with sensational stories of suffering. Why is my humanity only seen or cared about when I share the ways in which I have been victimized and violated?”

“Over the years, I’ve come to expect being groped in gay bars. Complaining about this unwanted touching is often deemed sex-negative, un-queer, or even homophobic. Touching in gay bars is generally seen as an acceptable form of cruising and supposedly pushes against the repressiveness enforced by heterosexism.”
