Still sort of feels like this book is all set up and no pay off.

How does Earth deal with homicidal maniac robots sent to genocide the entire population? Not very well. Not very well at all.

I forgot how enjoyable the last book was, and this one certainly starts out strong.

I am already suspecting I may not finish this book. The characters in this novel seem to be A-ok with absurdly homophobic, sexist and "your mom" jokes that constitute as humor. So far it feels like that's the actual joke. I was hoping for a fun, light read but I have already learned to hate the main characters, and that seems like a bad start. Not sure if Bevan is aware he is channeling awful "bro culture."

This book feels like a whole lot of nonsense put together followed by random plot solutions constantly pushing Alice forward.

Meyer seems to have fixed all the issues I had with the first two books in the series, which is a surprise. He's also made me kind of like the awful villain from the first novel. Despite being a fun little edible novel, Meyer has crafted quite a bit of depth.

The Final Empire seems kind of like a stand in name for the Empire that Sanderson forgot to remove. Lord Ruler seems like a pretty redundant title. Does he rule just the Lords? Is he the Lord Ruler Emperor King?

Kelsier is also pretty morally ambiguous, "As far as Kelsier was concerned, any man who upheld the Final Empire also forfeited his right to live."

Kelsier's battle scene with the Misthunters was a neat way of showing off the powers of Sanderson's world. Although, I'm not exactly sure why Pushing and Pulling should require separate metal.

Gee, how ever could our newly colonized settlment called Roanoake go wrong? Who could have foreseen this when they named it Roanoake?

I wish we'd had learned a bit more of the transition from being a super soldier with a computer in your head to a normal human who lives an everyday sheriff life, even if it's on a colonized planet. Both Jane and John should have had some kind of problems adapting to normal life, but we just skipped any of those 7 years.

4 Chapters in and so far this novel's main character is best summed up by saying "She's been betrayed. She trusts no one. She's all alone. Did I mention she trusts no one?"

Hopefully it will get better, but right now it sounds like a bad Rogue character by your edgy friend in D&D who makes all of his characters half demon mysterious loner princes who trust no one.
